this is correct. they reapplied the etherial status to an item that had a zod rune removed with the cube recipe. this process indirectly created the higher defense socket cube recipe to roll a random amount of sockets. Also, the max sockets that an item can have dictates the % chance of a certain number of sockets for, say, an armor. it's 25% chance for 1,2,3,4 sockets. not a 1/6 chance for 1,2,3 or 3/6 chance for 4 sockets.

1:04:30 hm... so Redeev and their Anima ARPG mobile game seem to have a lot of these issues ironed out... . You equip a +1 to all skills and the synergy will consider every point that adds to it. I wonder whether they addressed any of these issues as to whether they want to leave all the way it was or adjust something like these for Resurrected?! Surely seems like a missed opportunity not to fix these "bugs" considering the price tag for Resurrected.
30:08 I believe that upping a unique item only upgrade the base item to the next level (normal -> exceptional -> elite), changing its base stats (e.g. base dmg, base def), but it won't change the unique item's mods (e.g. ED) that the unique gave. So it won't upgrade the unique item to the next level unique - it's just the same unique but with better base stats. It also doesn't reroll any of the existing magic mods. It does reroll the base item's base stats, as mentioned.
48:00 first % enhanced damage applies, then + ... damage and then on top of it assassin charges and finishing moves apply. Is that correct? By the way do crushing blow and critical strike apply before assassin charges released?
No, I'm not talking about chance to hit, which is influenced by defence. I know, you was talking about defence. But I'm actually talking about physical damage dealt on hit. I've found out that damage is explaned good here: classic.battle.net/diablo2exp/basics/characters.shtml By the way, I'm kinda confused about block chance. Arreat summit says that chance to block is reduced to 1/3 (but capped at 25%) when running and description of weapon block skill says that it doesn't work while running at all. However on some websites I met info about that actually assassin's weapon block chance is not reduced even when running. I've played Diablo 2 last time long time ago, but I believe when I was running with assassin weapon block still worked. What do you say about chance to block for shield and dual claws? And is that true that assassin's cloak of shadows has hidden ability to extinguish casted fire wall? I know for sure only that Fade has hidden physical resistance bonus, which is not displayed (that's from arreat summit).
people thought i had a map hack with how fast i could find the next levels back when i was playing d2 back in the day. but it just came from with knowing how the maps could be generated. this was a long video but a lot of cool things i never knew. thanks!
@1:29:40 No offense, but that's wrong! - If you max out TK (lvl 20), your "Dmg to Mana ratio" is 1 to 0.75 ! The cap is NOT 1 to 1, as the indiablo.de skill-calculator shows this for years correct. Unfortunately, they overhauled their site a while ago and it's not working as good/accurate as before... Anyway, If 100 dmg. is incoming to your char and you have 95 % ES (lvl 40) with a lvl 20 TK (hardpoints only), 95 of the 100 dmg. will be absorbed by your ES but you will only lose 71 mana. This is because Diablo II rounds all numbers and the 71.25 mana loss can't be subtracted otherwise. The 5 remaining dmg. will get checked by all of your resistances, (probably lowered even further), and than hits your life orb. Notice, that all of your resistances will NOT take into account, by damage which gets absorbed from your ES. Hope this helps, cause I know ES & TK is for many players nothing, but a big mystery! ^^
Here is a super good tip I have never heard anyone talk about. A super budget way to keep your merc alive is to give them that unique helm that "blinds target" when striking. Everything your merc hits won't attack your merc. Super budget way to keep you merc alive with what ever life leach you can get on a weapon and or armor.
Edit: also I think make "target flee" is a super under rated ability for a merc. That you use with a sorc anyways. Another super budget way to keep your merc alive if you have nothing else. It also doesn't matter if the enemy runs cause your a sorc and can kill at a distance.
Mr Lama, 1. does synergy soft points counts as hard point when they are below 20? (like 10 hard points and +7 skill from no matter what above frost bolt) 2. how critical strikes works with deadly strike? for example if ive got 50% critical strike chance and 50% deadly strike chance, do ive got 50% chance to x4 dmg or 100% to x2 dmg or ive got nothing? xD ty
You missed some of the subtlety of hammerdins and magic immune monsters at 9 minutes in. Yes, you cannot remove magic immunity with auras, curses or anything else; however, blessed hammer specifically does extra damage (150%) against undead. It just so happens that MOST of the monsters that spawn with magic immunity are also undead. (usually those act 2 mummies) This extra damage to undead from blessed hammer actually acts as an immunity breaker and will do damage to them anyway despite no extra -resistance mechanics at play. TLDR: Hammerdins OP. Very, very few monsters spawn that they can't kill with their main button.
Its weird to see something like this with information that has actually changed like with the addition of Sunder Charms to Break Immunities. This is all still good information and I know D2R came out after this, but still really cool. I grew up playing LoD and never in my years of playing this game did I expect to get any sort of upgrade. Thanks for the info Llama!
Unique items with %Enhanced Defense don't roll defense. They get the max possible defense for that item +1. You can see it at 32:24 with the 252 defense Vampire Gaze.
130% cold/fire/lightning immunity and above is unbreakable even with a level 25 Conviction. 150% - res. all Conviction works at 1/5 efficiency --> 150/5=30; 130-30=100% resistance, still immune.
Hey, quick question for the whole resistances thing, if you had enough rainbow facets to socket(all -5 element). So 6 in a weapon, 3 helm, 4 chest, 4 shield, plus lower resist/conviction aura or infinity. That would still not be able to break the highest element immunities?
btw, i think if you put more points into TK(past 16) it starts to act like physical reduction and resistances for your mana were normally your phys reduction and resist don't count towards the dmg to your mana. People don't use it because of mana leech.
You aren't wrong, I just feel like helm is a more valuable position than rings in D2, lots of +2 skills, damage reduction, IAS and all sorts of goodies in helm slots, as compared to rings, but it's a more reliable choice to be sure and I normal have one on my Merc.
i think biggest bug that many peoples dont know about is when you equip merc with +x%dmg jewel the bonus will not work even its showed as boosted on merc stats (im not sure if that applies also on +x%dmg items tho)
Just need to change your runes.txt actually! Check out links like this. May be of help: www.gamefaqs.com/boards/370600-diablo-ii-lord-of-destruction/62650884

Wooooop, keep up all this new material coming. So much unique and great ideas. One idea off of my head, speed run with 8 characters, each a different class and a different mercy lol.
MrLlamaSC I checked it. It said on Monday you would stream 7:30. I went to your twitch and it was a musician you were hosting. Tomorrow will you stream cause I'd love to see 7 different classes all working together. 7 classes and maybe another sorc or fishymancer.
Ended up streaming at around 8:30 on Monday because I had to make dinner for the week. We ended up running I think 5 of the classes though across 8 players?
You forgot: Normal merc also has higher resistance vs nm or hell. You can only upgrade uniques, not rares... but you can roll magic items for multiple sockets with cube recipe if the item is capable. Lastly, the maps aren't procedurally generated but there's a lot of variations. Good video though, cant believe I watched the whole thing...
you can definitely upgrade rares, though it's a different forumla than the unique upgrade. Source: classic.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/cube.shtml Some maps are also procedurally generated, though not all. Some maps (Such as outer cloister) have set variations, others though were generated using tile pieces. :)
Ever considered doing guides for end builds stat priority and overall item explanation ? I would love to see some of those. Really enjoy your vids keep it up :)
I've thought about it, but I actually much prefer early game-mid game stuff. End game usually just gets too easy in most games and I don't quite find it as enjoyable.
I have been playing D2 on and off for many years, always kind of casually. I want to know if you have or could make a video of how to play the game as efficently as possible, to mae the most progress the quickest basically, because doing a startup can be slow..
hmm that's an interesting idea actually. Make a sort of "let's play" where I half speedrun but make it still comfortable enough that anyone could do it.
Hey Llama, so this means that peace is not a viable runeword for an act-2 merc? I have a 3os sacred armor and don't know what to do with it. Maybe just throw resistances in it lol
More on "Ignore defens": Ignore Target's Defense will not work on super unique bosses, but "negate" Target Defense will work, that is why a Last Wish is a bad weapon for a kicksin against the übers, but a Fleshripper is just so awesome aginst them ;-)
Have Q about ebugging armor: So if you find normal class eth armor and upping it to elite version, that 50% bug applies every time? And adds again when socketing with cube? ;)
The ebug only works with normal quality items and when using the recipe to socket. It doesn't work with the upping recipe and uniques can't be socketed with the cube.
@MrLlamaSC If what you said about conviction auras are true against Uber mephisto shouldn't smiters run that aura and get IAS from items rather than fanaticism?
Hey there Llama, I got 2 questions. How is it that your map is already explored? Is it a mod or something? The Second question is how do I fix Plugy for the new version of Diablo II (v1.14d)?
A little more info about Plugy and the latest build of D2. There were a lot of non-trivial changes made that will make it tough for anyone other than a relatively serious coder to make plugy work again. That being said, I believe that the plugy was released so someone could take the project and run with it.
plugy on 1.13 only. Also single player maps only reset when you change difficulties so I had already explored these areas. That's standard without any mod
your tip about the crystal sword is a good tip in norm cows a normal crystal sword will socket to get 4 sockets any where else it will get ether norm-baal=1 socket nightmare -hell end=6 sockets
There's also this problem with traps and +fire\lightning damage% - apart from not receiving the elemental bonus by traps, the bonus from itself is actually displayed in character stats.
What mods do you use in your game? Wanted to play d2 on upcoming holidays and was wondering what mods to install for the best gameplay (e.g. stats reset, talents reset etc)
What mods are you running? I've also noticed in your streams that your hot keys are normal letter keys, and not just restricted to the f buttons. I play online, so not just single player, am I able to use certain mods on bnet, or is that more of a single player thing?
question, how do you upgrade normal (white items) teir 1 weapons and armor to exceptional weapons and armor to elite? or can it only be done on unique and set items? I know you can up low quality to normal
Watching this made me feel like I was back in high school where you had that one teacher that had absolutely little to no focus at all. lol only 10 minutes in and I feel like drawing on my text book.
When an item has %ed, it will always have the maximum roll for base defense. The exception are upgraded items, as for those the base defense gets rolled when upgrading. One of the reasons why perfectly upped (or double upped) bloodfists are worth quite a bit. Diablo drops ilvl 94, nila 95, baal 99.
For Merc's having higher stats in normal - they gain more stats when you level themselves as opposed to hiring them at a higher level; meaning if you take a level 90 char and go to hire a merc there shouldn't be a difference between normal + hell, but, if you hire a merc. when you're levl 10 in normal and level it to 90 it will have higher stats.
this is not correct. you can go to normal diff and hire a merc at say, level 80, and if you had leveled the merc from level 1 to level 80 they will have the same stats. what matters is the difficulty setting where you hire the merc. Normal has higher stats than Nightmare, and higher still than Hell diff.
So the conviction aura overwriting thing is due to how auras are coded. You can only be affected by one of a given aura at a time, so if one paladin has a level 20 fanaticism aura and another a level 10, the game picks the level 20 as the one that affects both. The issue with conviction comes because the conviction aura graphic that shows on your character when you activate it signifies an actual conviction aura, it just doesn't have any affect on you for obvious reasons. This is fine until we run into another conviction aura. The "only one aura" rule still holds, so your benign conviction aura on you can be overwritten by a higher level non-benign one from an enemy, but their benign conviction aura isn't overwritten by yours, meaning your conviction aura effectively doesn't do anything at all versus that enemy.
I know this video is old but could i get a reply, I very much need to know this Llama!! If my merc is using Insight or Infinity, will a +skills armor or helmet add levels to the Insight or infinity Aura?

The tornado skill deals two types of damage "on Collision-dmg"+"periodic dmg" both deal the same total damage (correctly shown charscreen).
Only the on collision dmg have the 25frames next hit delay (with last collide entry and is blockable). The periodic dmg is an area dmg (radius 1.5 sub-tiles), it deals damage during the first 16's 31's frame and is unblockable).

Is it true that the -resistance debuff in Nightmare and Hell difficulties also applies to enemies, like he mentioned?
30:08 I believe that upping a unique item only upgrade the base item to the next level (normal -> exceptional -> elite), changing its base stats (e.g. base dmg, base def), but it won't change the unique item's mods (e.g. ED) that the unique gave. So it won't upgrade the unique item to the next level unique - it's just the same unique but with better base stats. It also doesn't reroll any of the existing magic mods. It does reroll the base item's base stats, as mentioned.

first % enhanced damage applies, then + ... damage and then on top of it assassin charges and finishing moves apply. Is that correct?
By the way do crushing blow and critical strike apply before assassin charges released?
I believe this should give you some sense of it: bfed2.diablomods.ru/site/index.php?page=gm_damage
No, I'm not talking about chance to hit, which is influenced by defence. I know, you was talking about defence. But I'm actually talking about physical damage dealt on hit.
I've found out that damage is explaned good here: classic.battle.net/diablo2exp/basics/characters.shtml
By the way, I'm kinda confused about block chance.

Jason Dunne ghost dicks ;)
You watch videos like this and you realize how truly bad Diablo 3 is.
Not really, I still prefer D3 (yes I played D2 as a child and later on blih blah bloh)
don't need to watch a video like this to realize d3 is bad
@@SamusLovesMilk not for me. I beat D3 once and never touched it again. I still play D2.
@@bradclark5913 yea I agree
I only played it when it first came out and never touched it again. I tried it on Xbox for a week with my buddy but we quit.
people thought i had a map hack with how fast i could find the next levels back when i was playing d2 back in the day. but it just came from with knowing how the maps could be generated. this was a long video but a lot of cool things i never knew. thanks!
thanks! Ya lots of people just assume map hack but it's pretty cool how it's all generated
LOL he rolled a 720 armor to a 1080 on a youtube vid. Ithink that's funny :D
HD - FHD
nice :D
@1:29:40
No offense, but that's wrong!
interesting, I'll have to study it up a bit more and maybe do some testing of my own! ty
Mr Lama,
1. does synergy soft points counts as hard point when they are below 20? (like 10 hard points and +7 skill from no matter what above frost bolt)
2. how critical strikes works with deadly strike? for example if ive got 50% critical strike chance and 50% deadly strike chance, do ive got 50% chance to x4 dmg or 100% to x2 dmg or ive got nothing? xD
ty
dude im watching 3 of your videos at once! what have you done to me?! your content is awsome. and I love diablo 2
Very, very few monsters spawn that they can't kill with their main button.
this got fixed at some point, though. So it's no longer the case.
Yeah the game has shifted! Maybe time to make a new tips video
Possible breakable immunity by additional lower resist curse (by necro or by item charge)
Hi. Thanks for the tips. May i know why do your inventory have so many pages? Mine only have 1
Hey, quick question for the whole resistances thing, if you had enough rainbow facets to socket(all -5 element). So 6 in a weapon, 3 helm, 4 chest, 4 shield, plus lower resist/conviction aura or infinity. That would still not be able to break the highest element immunities?
Those will only apply once resistance is broken, so no those will not aid in the actual breaking of a resistance
btw, i think if you put more points into TK(past 16) it starts to act like physical reduction and resistances for your mana were normally your phys reduction and resist don't count towards the dmg to your mana. People don't use it because of mana leech.
With Tgods belt and wisp you can heal from lighting damage with 75 res, it's super handy with boss packs of gloams
Blackhorn's Face is good for that too.
Ya there's a lot of issues with the +%dmg stuff. It works in weird ways (I think same thing for like if you have it in armor and stuff)
13:45 - How did you get a spirit runeword on a solo character? Isn't it ladder only?
Yes. My mod allows for ladder runewords in single player
Right. And the mod is not compatible with 1.14d. My neverending quest for ladder runewords continues!
Just need to change your runes.txt actually!
Check out links like this. May be of help: www.gamefaqs.com/boards/370600-diablo-ii-lord-of-destruction/62650884
When the music started I thought a SCV will appear in Lut Golein an start building a bunker at the entrance :-)
16:23
"I have not found Mang Song yet, no"
Took you 4 years :D
Lmao
Starting sound is starcraft terran ?
yes sc 1 for sure =)
here for my refresher course in 2021
Have a high strength amulet in inventory and equip before picking up body will help you pick up body much safer, original amulet will go to the inventory slot so just swap it out later
knowing all of this makes me feel so nostalgic
Holy Crap.... The music at the beginning.... Sounds like SC1.... Great Vid as always Llama
This is awesome, you are explaining things that i didn't even know when i was playing D2 back when i was child.
Any chance you could play SC:BW? That background music is getting me. XD
I do love me some SCBW. I've got some vids on my channel of it (I think I have a playlist)
MrLlamaSC SCBW?
starcraft brood war LMAO
starcraft : broodwar
great questoin bra; one of the greatest games ever; way better than sc2
Brilliant video, I learned a lot. I was really enjoying it right up to the point when you found Arm of King Leoric and then THREW IT ON THE GROUND?! LOL
I want that item so bad, I almost choked when I saw that hahaha
I throw a lot of stuff away haha :P
Going back from d2r to lod was a breath of fresh air. Going back from Diablo 4 to lod was like escaping from a mildewed rug immersed in sewage. By the way I love the Starcraft music he used.
is there a place where all of this is written down? is there a website or app that will tell me my actual damage/resistance?
Wooooop, keep up all this new material coming. So much unique and great ideas. One idea off of my head, speed run with 8 characters, each a different class and a different mercy lol.
MrLlamaSC when are you streaming? I think I could watch it tomorrow
mrllamasc.com/schedule/
Source: classic.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/cube.shtml
Some maps are also procedurally generated, though not all. Some maps (Such as outer cloister) have set variations, others though were generated using tile pieces. :)
I don't know how I never ever noticed that. D2--full of little things you never realized.
Ever considered doing guides for end builds stat priority and overall item explanation ? I would love to see some of those. Really enjoy your vids keep it up :)
I've thought about it, but I actually much prefer early game-mid game stuff. End game usually just gets too easy in most games and I don't quite find it as enjoyable.
i kinda like the idea of the conviction auro overwriting, because if u have more knowledge the spell doesnt affect u, i like that
so if they are cold immune at 105% resist, and your cold mastery is 160% resistance ignoring, it still wont do any damage?
Wait so why didnt the duskdeep at 36:20 cube into a darksight if thats is its exceptional version? awesome video thanks
It upgraded from a Full Helm to a Basinet
It upgrades the BASE item type (full helm to basinet) but it doesn't change the item to the next level unique.
Great video!
What is a mode you use with infinite stash and item level display? Is it PlugY?
thats it indeed
I'm intoxicated on whiskey, I like this video, gj mate.
I mean...it wouldn't be great but it could be okay!
@@MrLlamaSC Would the +2 critical strike affect your mercs damage
I heard that in version 1.14d putting hard points into raven will add elemental resistance for spirit wolves/dire wolves/ grizzly. Is that true?
I haven't heard this but I also haven't studied that tree too much!
More on "Ignore defens": Ignore Target's Defense will not work on super unique bosses, but "negate" Target Defense will work, that is why a Last Wish is a bad weapon for a kicksin against the übers, but a Fleshripper is just so awesome aginst them ;-)
Wow nice bro. You like the creator of the Diablo 2. Love all your video. Bringing back memories :)
This video needs to be put into your guide playlist
Have Q about ebugging armor: So if you find normal class eth armor and upping it to elite version, that 50% bug applies every time? And adds again when socketing with cube? ;)
The ebug only works with normal quality items and when using the recipe to socket. It doesn't work with the upping recipe and uniques can't be socketed with the cube.
I'm pretty sure etheral bugging only applies when using the socket cube recipe.
This makes me wanna play D2 again. It's been a long time.
In single player the maps are saved after you explore them but they will be reset once you start a game on another difficulty.
Thanks so much MrLlama! Definitely using this for D2R!
music from 1:00:29 to 1:04:13 pls?
your tip about the crystal sword is a good tip in norm cows a normal crystal sword will socket to get 4 sockets any where else it will get ether norm-baal=1 socket nightmare -hell end=6 sockets
yo llama, have u ever done a video that explains how defense works? it always just seemed like an abstract number lol, never really understood it
eg, if someone does 100 - 110 dmg and i have 500 defense, how much do they do? n does physical / magic attack matter?
There's a formula to explain it, but a video could be good to do!
u had me at diablo!!!
if they have hight rezist on fire then lightning ?
There's also this problem with traps and +fire\lightning damage% - apart from not receiving the elemental bonus by traps, the bonus from itself is actually displayed in character stats.
What mods do you use in your game? Wanted to play d2 on upcoming holidays and was wondering what mods to install for the best gameplay (e.g. stats reset, talents reset etc)
plugy mod is all I use. Takes care of all of that stuff and is pretty nice to have
What mods are you running? I've also noticed in your streams that your hot keys are normal letter keys, and not just restricted to the f buttons. I play online, so not just single player, am I able to use certain mods on bnet, or is that more of a single player thing?
He's using pluggy, which is a SP mod. You can also assign skill hotkeys to any key you want - just explore the keybinding menu.
question, how do you upgrade normal (white items) teir 1 weapons and armor to exceptional weapons and armor to elite? or can it only be done on unique and set items? I know you can up low quality to normal
you don't upgrade normal white items. Only unique and rare!
MrLlamaSC OK thanks, wasn't sure if you could or couldnt
13:35 str bug. When I do this, i always carry a 20+ strength ring or ammy to switch out.
"Number 8 will shock you!" LMAO As long as it will make my jaw literally drop.
Watching this made me feel like I was back in high school where you had that one teacher that had absolutely little to no focus at all. lol only 10 minutes in and I feel like drawing on my text book.
question doest magic find applies on runes?
When an item has %ed, it will always have the maximum roll for base defense. The exception are upgraded items, as for those the base defense gets rolled when upgrading. One of the reasons why perfectly upped (or double upped) bloodfists are worth quite a bit. Diablo drops ilvl 94, nila 95, baal 99.
Yep just remembered that. It's those pesky re-rolls that can getcha
+dmg from Grief doesnt work on kicks right?
I know this video is old but could i get a reply, I very much need to know this Llama!! If my merc is using Insight or Infinity, will a +skills armor or helmet add levels to the Insight or infinity Aura?
nope, won't increase it!
Awesome, thanks for taking the time to reply i really appreciate it, i couldn't find the answer on google.
How about the melee poison damage and critical strike interaction I.e. Making it break.
Everyone- Hammerdin OP
Act 2 baal wave- hold my beer
are you using an inventory mod? how do you have extra tabs?
Harley Russell Use D2SE
Wait but you're giving this guide with a mod that expands storage space right?
hey just found your channel.. how do you get the extra inventory space?
plugy mod!
you go on battle.net forums and complain about bots on battle.net d2. they will gift you stash space so you get the fuck out to single player
1:23:30 so if i sell any unique item i get it wont ever drop again in that game?
witch version do you use to play diablo2 i play d2 for 17 years and i never see a stash like yours
most of the time 1.14 but I'm using 1.13 for this character so I can use plugy mod for the big stash
