I'm not even a Christian, but those lyrics are more deep and thoughout than 90% of the bands that Vin and Sori review. Most of the bands reviewed here have very shallow lyrics.....These are extremely poetic and sung by a brilliant singer.....
These lyrics are basically a long quote from different books of the Bible, so they ARE thought out... :) They were written down by different authors during centuries (not to mention inspired by God).... So yes... The band added very little to it, except provided logical links between quotes and wrote amazing music, of course. That is how a masterpiece is made - you take a classic piece of literature and then you reshape it into something beautiful.

This song is a 10+ in my heart. Matt layered the vocals to create these awesome choirs which makes theocracy songs so epic. The lyrics really bring people in to hopefully realize that the one true God is the great "I Am".
This is the band that opened the gates of metal to me. "Absolution Day" specifically. It was the first metal song that I had ever heard, and the sound just blew me away. Ever since then I've been a proud metalhead, though my taste has changed over time. I may not be into this kind of metal anymore, but I will always have a soft spot for this band. There is nothing "corny" about "I Am". That is Matt praising God and talking about all the things he sees God in. Theocracy is one of the best Christian rock bands around and many don’t even know who they are! You shouldn’t hold a Christian band to any higher standards then a secular band. I have played this song I AM for many of my friends that are not Christians and they say the depth musically and lyrically is just as good as bands like Queensryche or Dream Theater. If your gonna react to music you shouldn’t pre label a band because they proclaim their faith through their songs. The point of this song is Descriptive of how almighty Our God is and how he is bigger and better than anyone or any earthly pleasure.
This song and Absolution Day are my favorite Theocracy songs. I have seriously cried listening to them. As for Absolution Day I have heard entire sermons that have not better articulated how unimaginable and perfect Grace is but that song is a tremendous allegory for it that lets a layperson really understand. What I love most about I Am is that it is a praise song but from the perspective of God. It is as affecting as human hands have constructed of the majesty and truth of God. Last, it is great that Val found this video and I too hope you guys hear the full version of the song. Thanks for the video.
Been waiting for you guys to eventually check out Theocracy. Ive seen them countless times. Fantastic band. The first three albums were a pretty big deal in my coming to terms with salvation by grace. EDIT: And of course the heavy/solo section is cut from the video....man...
Christianity isn't like other religions and listening to Theocracy made me realize that There is no other god in other religions where the god cares as much for their creation as Jesus/God cares for his
Please note: the worst truly Christian metal is light years better than the best secular metal band. Also note, the music industry is secular so their bias will always be toward money. Remember our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ said to us we will either serve him or money. I hope you two will continue to defend the gospel of Jesus Christ...don’t fear man! There are souls to be won! If God be for us, who can be against us. Hebrews 12:14
One thing to note, is can a band pull this off live? Just saw Theocracy in Ohio, they played this and it was flawless, Matt Smith pulls off those vocals live without a hitch.
Quite often our music can seem cheesy lyrically or musically... it’s true, but let’s put it this way... especially as far as this particular band- it will make so much more sense if and when you ever experience the situation sung in “Mirror of Souls”.
Guys thank you so much for taking a chance on Theocracy… Such an amazing band… If you’re going to be doing more Christian artist may I recommend the band Deny The Fallen… Released their debut release this past September called Symptoms of Eternity... I recommend the song Death Rattle or Hands For War which features Oz Fox from Stryper on guitar...You can find the album here on RUclips or on Spotify or any of the streaming services... absolutely love watching you two together… People I would love to hang out with! Keep doing a stellar job!
There's a lot of really great Christian metal in all sub genres. Theocracy is definitely the most openly biblical but there's bands that aren't so obvious but still get the message across. Extol, becoming the archetype, demon hunter. All awesome bands I'd recommend
Why Christians should be the best in everything? It doesn't make sense, even from biblical point of view ''God is no respecter of persons.''Acts 10:34 So it doesn't matter what belief the person or the band has, so the statement Christians should be best at everything is invalid.
Nice song to wake up with. Very melodic. I'd like some melo(dic) death. Allegaeon - Grey matter mechanics or The Black Dahlia Murder - Nightbringers. Keep up the variety👍
Stryper might come off as corny when you listen to them, but you have to remember they were a 1980s hair band, so part of the corniness is just the era (like they weren't uniquely corny). As I mentioned in another comment, they're historically important because they were the first Christian band to break into the mainstream. You should listen to "To Hell with the Devil" from their 3rd album (by the same name) and then listen to either "Yahweh" or "Fallen" off their 2015 album. Other important Christian bands are: Mortification, which I think was the first Christian death metal band; Impending Doom, a major deathcore band (deathcore is where Christians probably left their biggest mark in metal); and Crimson Moonlight, my favorite Christian black metal band (or un-black metal as some call it).
On the contrary, I have been a metal fan my entire adult life and I have heard all of the best that the genre can offer and I was blown away by THIS music and THIS piece and THIS band. I did not think it cheesy or somehow less than any secular metal that I've heard. I've experienced all the best that metal can offer (to the best ability that can be expected) in my nearly 6 decades on earth and in my judgement, given my vast experience, this is a masterpiece. How anyone could be critical of such musical talent is surprising to say the least. One need not be ashamed of or embarrassed to be a Christian. Scripture rocks at the very least as good as any ungodly lyrics ever could.
I actually enjoyed that song. I was never into Christian bands but I liked this. Would like to hear this same song done with death vocals. I think it could still work and be good.
Whoa!!! Did not expect this :) Matthew Winter is right though, this video cut out a rockin' middle instrumental section :( Maybe to Vin's benefit, since he doesn't like prog :p
Andrew Brorherton agreed. The fact is that the Christian bias is so apparent here. I'm not a Christian myself, but am a huge Theocracy fan, and their musical abilities far surpass any shitty Euro/US black metal and/or death metal bands.
I agree with her with the cornie parts, particularly within some parts of the instrumental like that part where they used something that resembles the hornpipe and it kinda sounded a bit cheap to me compared to some other bands o that same genre. I do jump some parts when I get back to it. Even tho all of this is true to me, the lyrics are so deep and true and meaningfull and the vocals so good that it made me hear it again and again with a smile on my face.
WOW!! Never, I mean NEVER, would I have thought that those who call themselves by His Name would ever be critical of this powerful song. Even my elders, who don't like this style were moved by this anointed (I DON'T use that term lightly) songs lyrics. Wow!! I'm heartbroken. No joy, no encouragement, nothing praiseworthy.
If you want some really good christian metal, Living Sacrifice's first two albums are awesome. You could also do Opprobrium, Frost Like Ashes, Antestor, Crimson Moonlight, or even classic Bride or Whitecross.
@@timothymeysenburg9160 I was mentioning names of bands off the top of my head. Mortification is great one of the best Death Metal bands in Christian Metal history Scrolls of the Megilloth is a great album!

As you see i have been having a difficult past few days spiritually, and neglected my time with god, and this post was exactly what i needed. Some of the things you said Vin hit home to me as well, concerning how the lyrics to this song can apply to your life. I can also relate lyrically to this song, as cheesy as some might think! this song to me has some of the most metal lyrics ever, because to me, metal doesn't have to be just about the devil, war, drugs, sex, slaying dragons ect..... to me metal is about empowerment, coping,understanding,dissecting,renouncing,glorifying.... and yes all of that can be touched apon via aggressive dark metal, epic power metal, menacing death metal or what have you.....with said topics i stated previously, But! there is nothing more empowering that knowing our lord father gives us! through him all the powers this song lyrically addresses.....and without the penalties that power through corruption, greed, and dishonesty brings. That is a false type of power anyhow oh and just incase you actually get a glimpse of this comment post i have a few song suggestions..... i have some songs from 2 of my favorite bands in what you would call Funeral Doom or melodic doom death...lol, a lot of macabre in the labels of a genre a find can one of the most beautiful first song you def should give a listen is Saturnus - A Poem (Written in Moonlight) this song defines the best they have to offer, they are from denmark and have been around since 1994 another fav from them: Saturnus - Noir and a band called funeral from norway, they have been around since 1993 this is one of my favorites from them Funeral - Vagrant God also try The 11th Hour - Bury Me... oh and vin i remember you saying you tend to like some melodic black metal so i have a awesome band for you called Old Man's Child.. they are from Norway (of course) and is a side project of lead guitarist Galder from Dimmu Borgir. seriously any song of theirs just owns so its hard to just recommend one so pick out randomly out of my suggestions.... get ready to injure your neck hinge from headbanging. Old Man's Child - My Demonic Figures Old Man's Child - Fall of Man Old Man's Child - God of Impiety Old Man's Child - Captives of Humanity Old Man's Child - Hominis Nocturna Old Man's Child - The Dream Ghost again god bless you guys..... keep up gods work.. you guys rock!

One favorites Christian metal bands
Christianity isn't like other religions and listening to Theocracy made me realize that
There is no other god in other religions where the god cares as much for their creation as Jesus/God cares for his
Exactly. Yet another sign towards which religion is true.
Hebrews 12:14
this song is really good, one of their best.
Green Carnation - Light of Day, Day of Darkness. Epic, brilliant and sorrow opus. Heavy for perception due to the duration of 1 hour.
Rhapsody of Fire - Heroes of the Waterfall Kingdom
There's a lot of really great Christian metal in all sub genres. Theocracy is definitely the most openly biblical but there's bands that aren't so obvious but still get the message across. Extol, becoming the archetype, demon hunter. All awesome bands I'd recommend
That’s awesome dude! 🌟

War of ages is stellar
The Browning - Final Breath. You guys should check them out.
Blessed in the name of Yeshua.
Keep up the variety👍
they have a song 22min long, that blow minds, called mirror of soul, you should check this one
this is the best progressive metal christian band ever
Nailed from this album is also very good. A little heavier.
Trying to get them to play nailed
I love this song...this song helps me while I do my dialysis...
Please check out some of the tracks from their last album, "Ghost Ship." My top pick for y'all would be "The Wonder of it All."
Hope you two come back to these guys in the future.
Haha Wanted to sugest this. Glad you someone did it.
I got the notification, saw "I Am" and thought it was The Faceless.
I almost died
I actually enjoyed that song. I was never into Christian bands but I liked this. Would like to hear this same song done with death vocals. I think it could still work and be good.
Laying the demon to rest or mirror of souls is a lot less cheesy. But this song describes everything we believe.
MY DYING BRIDE--" TURN LOOSE THE SWANS"
AWESOME AND VERY ORIGINAL
Now that is excellence 🎸🙏🏻😇
Theocracy such a great band dude, i don't care if they are christians or satanists, their make a wonderful prog/power metal.
Whoa!!! Did not expect this :)
Matthew Winter is right though, this video cut out a rockin' middle instrumental section :( Maybe to Vin's benefit, since he doesn't like prog :p
Thanks for just giving them a chance. Black metal and death metal have ruined you Sori lol.
Demon Hunter "Jesus Wept"
Yes frost like ashes my dad actually went to college with the lead singer
It's interesting that I never see recommendations for Mortification or Horde when Christian metal is brought up.
@@timothymeysenburg9160 I was mentioning names of bands off the top of my head. Mortification is great one of the best Death Metal bands in Christian Metal history Scrolls of the Megilloth is a great album!
Tourniquet is my favorite
Oh heck yes, my fav Christian Metal band, great song! If you want short good one react to their song "The Gift of Music".
Very Scripture saturated music, to bad the song was edited.
Yes that's a great song
Will you please do a video on the Talk Talk song 'New Grass'? I think this song is the most remarkably beautiful song, and the lyricism is astonishingly touching. I think it is the most heavenly peice of modern music ever composed, not to mention a formative experience that helped me come into contact with my faith.
Thanks guys!
also about the lyrics, metal isn't just metal, Christian metal is about the lyrics also
Deathspell Omega - Abscission;
Deathspell Omega - Winds of Predation
You guys are the best! Love the channel.
You know whats a perfect way to counteract this song
Nine inch nails - mr self destruct :)
Definitely Power Metally sounding
Wow, this song was edited. They cut some instrumental part and the end of the song to. The song is actually 11 minutes long. You need check out Mirror Of Souls. 20+ minute epic, it has these 3 parts and it's not preachy and doesn't contain any biblical references or language. It has a kind of CS Luis vibe. Very lyrics driven. Awesome song!
so glad you guys decided to randomly (but not so randomly to me) do a christian based metal song
It was gods way to remind me that he wants to keep in contact with me daily and not become slack with my communcation with him. That is a false type of power anyhow
oh and just incase you actually get a glimpse of this comment post i have a few song suggestions.....
i have some songs from 2 of my favorite bands in what you would call Funeral Doom or melodic doom death...lol, a lot of macabre in the labels of a genre a find can one of the most beautiful
first song you def should give a listen is Saturnus - A Poem (Written in Moonlight) this song defines the best they have to offer, they are from denmark and have been around since 1994
another fav from them: Saturnus - Noir
and a band called funeral from norway, they have been around since 1993 this is one of my favorites from them
Funeral - Vagrant God
also try The 11th Hour - Bury Me...
oh and vin i remember you saying you tend to like some melodic black metal so i have a awesome band for you called Old Man's Child.. they are from Norway (of course) and is a side project of lead guitarist Galder from Dimmu Borgir. seriously any song of theirs just owns so its hard to just recommend one so pick out randomly out of my suggestions.... get ready to injure your neck hinge from headbanging.
Old Man's Child - My Demonic Figures
Old Man's Child - Fall of Man
Old Man's Child - God of Impiety
Old Man's Child - Captives of Humanity
Old Man's Child - Hominis Nocturna

Vin, put this entire album on you playlist ..
It is not a concept album but it does have a central theme ..
And still no King Diamond - No Presents For Christmas. :(
Arch Enemy - We Will Rise + Fields of Desolation (LIVE Tyrants of the Rising Sun)
Opeth - Demon of the Fall!!
Don't give up! The "Portrait of a Headless Man" Guy(s) made it eventually!
The Showdown - "From the Mouth of Gath Comes Terror" × 1000 for the heaviest Christian band my ears have ever heard. I've actually seen them 3 different times live.
