Moana's story is fictional, but the culture in which the movie was inspired by is very real. The story is set around 3-2000 years ago, and is based on the Polynesian islands like Hawaii, Samoa, Tahiti. They got some things right, some things wrong, but its definitively worth looking into it. Here are some fun facts: Polynesians were seafaring people, they were voyagers and explorers, but just like in the movie, there was a 2000 years long pause on voyaging and exploration, and historians are not sure why this long pause happened, and they also are not sure why they began voyaging again after this long pause. Maui is a part of Polynesian people's legends, although they vary across islands. The song that Moana's ancestors sing is in two languages, Samoan and Tokelauan, which is a language that only 3000 people still speak to this day.
@@vicx7871 when my kiddo watches it, he almost acts out what the characters do and makes sound effects. It's hilarious. He can't say Brave no matter how hard I try, so he calls it "Baby" 😭😭😭
There's a theory out there that Maui is the animal sidekicks in every Disney princess movie. Especially Frozen. Since we get a glimpse of The Reindeer from Frozen in this movie.
@keina123 some suspects that, Maui is the reason Lilo from Lilo and Stitch. Thinks Pudge the fish controls the weather. Lilo is deep into myths and legends. So, there is also that theory too.
This movie hit a little different to me, because I was in the Navy, and stationed in the western Pacific. I've visited islands that look like that, I know those beautiful, clear, warm waters. I also know that the ocean is capricious and to be respected just as much as it is loved. If you need some more Disney movie suggestions, Tangled is a good, more lighthearted one. I also think you would enjoy Soul, it isn't a princess movie but it's stealthily good and will make you think. Finally, I'm sure you already have your plate full, but if you want a show to react to in the future, I actually recommend Bluey. It's a show for parents masquerading as a show for kids, and it touches on a lot of subjects that will go right over a kid's head. Definitely one of those shows that is enjoyable on the surface, but grows a lot deeper as you look into the subtext. Season 1 is good and has some great episodes, but Season 2 is where the show starts really hitting it's stride. Just as an example for an episode's plot, paraphrased from The Odd 1's Out: It covers the evolution of man from a scientific and religious perspective respectively, and also touches on the ever growing relationship between a mother and child. All within 7 minutes. And no, that is not reading too deep into it.
I love the beginning of this movie and the depiction of the South Pacific mythology for how the islands were formed and their explanation for the volcanic activity. So creative and really well done!
Pretty sure the disney princess in encanto is bruno. Hes the only one with animal companions. Something I saw that was pretty funny, The Rocks kids was watching this so he started singing along with youre welcome and they told him to be quiet not realizing he voiced maui.
In case you didn't know Lin-Manual Miranda (from Hamilton) was involved in both Moana and Encanto :3 He's written and produced so many amazing musicals
One particularly dark theory posits that Moana died during the storm at the beginning, so she encountered the demigod Maui when she washed up on the island he had been trapped on for millennia. The Disney movie fan theory holds a bit of water as Moana doesn't encounter another human character until the end after she was supposedly brought back to life by Te Fiti. plus, all that she encounters were spirits and monsters and how she was able to access the realm of monsters is because she isn't alive, that could only be seen in the spirit world. And it's also why she was able to touch her grandma in her spiritual form. Inspired by the pig in this movie. You should check out. Charlotte's web both movies the cartoon and the remake are both super good. So, maybe try a reaction to one of them.
9:42 please don't say that, u r human with emotions and we're here because we share the same emotions and like u for who u are (new subscriber btw✌🏽..imma go binge all ur videos now lol)
The line at the end of the movie about being named Sebastian and having a Jamaican accent is a reference to the Little Mermaid, you should react to it! ;)
You’re never too old to watch Disney movies.👏🏻💯 just let you’re inner child accept it now.💓 the world is too serious it’s ok to have a laugh or giggle or bring out the kid in you. You never know, right?. Thank you for the reaction!
The indigenous people of the South Pacific literally sailed for centuries, populating everywhere from New Zealand to Hawaii. No one knows wy exactly they kept moving (though of course, likely for the same reason that every culture expands outwards, humans like to explore). Historically though, they did, again for unknown reasons, stop exploring for hundreds of years.
I would love to see your reaction to the Harry Potter series! You notice lots of details and actually py attention to the movie - the Harry Potter fandom would welcome you with open arms! I think you would absolutely love the series! Even if you've already seen them, it would be fun to do a re-watch with you! 💛🖤
'voodoo stuff' by that do you literally just mean magic? 😅 Hoodoo is a v specific kind of magic and belief system. But anyway, Te Fiti's power is just the power of a goddess is it rly magic?
I also screamed when u said did he just do the rock stare? I was screaming THATS THE ROCK

You’re actually not supposed to pick up turtles to the ocean. That’s why she didn’t do that. Their supposed to learn that way
