James Woods (Hades) loved this role so much, he, if memory serves, he did the role at a vastly reduced pay to help keep the production near budget, and volunteered to reprise the role for anything using Hades in the future, such as games.
33:25 it’s the other way around, it’a called “Achille tendon” because of Greek mythology. In the story, Achille’s mother plunged him in the Styx river (underworld river) when he was a baby while holding him by his heel, it made his body invincible except for his heel. In the myth, he died by being shot in the back of the heel with a poisoned arrow.
@@XFizzlepop-Berrytwistwell I’m not 100% sure, that’s what I remember but I may be wrong. But if we was just his heel was just hurt I don’t know if that would have killed him
@@lou9081The arrow was not poisoned. The reason the arrow to the heel was fatal is because when a mortal swims in the river Styx, they choose a kind of "anchor point" which binds their invulnerability to their mortality. If this "anchor point" ever gets struck, their invulnerability fades away, and with it, their life. Since achilles was a baby when he was dipped into the Styx, he didn't actually choose one, and it just defaulted to the part of him that he was being held by: his heel.
Just to keep you in the know...Disney Disneyfied the Grecian lore for the movie. Also, a side note that virtually everybody gets wrong...the name "Hercules" is the ROMAN equivalent to the actual Greek "Heracles", just like Jupiter/Zeus, Pluto/Hades, Mars/Ares, Mercury/Hermes, Saturn/Hera, Venus/Aphrodite, Neptune/Poseidon.
Saturn is Kronos; Hera’s Roman equivalent is Juno. The easiest way to remember is the painting of the guy consuming his son. It refers to the man as Saturn, and Kronos is best known for eating his children.
In terms of using Greek mythology in this movie, Disney really kept it at a minimum and changed a lot of the details. Not to say the movie is bad, I love it a lot and it is one of the movies I rewatch a lot, but in terms of wanting to learn more about Greek mythology... it's not a great movie for that. ^^; So here's a few differences in the story since you seem interested in mythology: 1.) For one, Hera is not Herakle's mother. In actual mythology she hates him since he is one of Zeus' affair kids because that man slept with so many goddesses and humans. In Herakles' situation, his mother is Alcmene who is a human. Zeus disguised himself as her husband and slept with her, then when Alcmene's husband returned she slept with him too, resulting in Herakles actually having two biological fathers (yes, this is a thing that can actually happen). 2.) Another major difference is Hades being the villain in the movie; Hades isn't very involved in mythology for the most part, probably because ancient Greeks didn't really like openly discussing the Underworld (or death in general) and it's related elements, hence why there aren't any recorded myths on that topic. 3.) Megara: In the movie you see Hercules meet Megara or Meg, but it in the mythology they do marry and have kids. But Hera still angry that Herakles exists (she even tried to prevent his birth but that's a whole other long story), she inflicted madness on Herakles which caused him to kill his wife Megara and their children. Then King Euristeo of Mycenae, Herakle's cousin, punishes him and to atone for his crime Herakles must complete the 12 labors he is most known for. You do see a few of the labors being completed in the song, "Zero to Hero," like him defeating the boar and the lion there. Him killing the hydra before the song is actually one of those labors in the original myth as well. There's a lot more differences to the Hercules/Herakles myths but if I went into detail this comment would be waaay too long, but I think these are the major ones that were changed for the movie!
Also the Titans in the movie, aren't exactly the Titans, because 1) There were a lot more 2) the Titans weren't exactly giant creatures, they were normal sized 3) they're stuck in Tarturus with the Hecatoncheires Pegasus was made when Medusa got her head cut off by Perseus. Although creative to make a flying creatures from different clouds
@bluewolf6323 i remember a movie, an old timey movie with Medusa getting her head cut off by one of Zuse's sons to turn a monster to stone that was going to kill/destroy a princess/city bit in that movie Hera's killed all the pegesuses but one and was transformed by Zuse as punishment
@Gotamoona Sounds pretty cool...I don't believe Perseus was a son of Zeus, shockingly, someone correct me tho, but that does sound like the mission Perseus had to do because Medusa was causing trouble for the Gods...in a she was a nuisance kind of problem.
@bluewolf6323 this movie also had the witches of fate in it too they looked more like witches in the movie and u can it is an older movie cause the monsters are clay
My guy, if you like Greek Mythology, watch the show ‘Percy Jackson’, its about demigods on the modern world and its based on a bestselling book series (that i love) and its still ongoing. I have a feeling you would love Grover…
@ShyGuyPlus Zeus father was Kronos the Titan of time. And the king of the titans, he was told one of his children would grow up to over throw him. So he Ate them all except Zeus because his wife Zeus mom fed his a stone instead of Zeus, she hid him until he grew old enough, he then fed his father a concoction that forced his father to throw up his brothers and sisters who then banded together to cut Kronos into pieces and throw his body into Tarturous. They then faught a war ridding the world of the titans and took over. The three brothers taking the three biggest kingdoms for themselves, Zeus tricked Hadies into taking over the kingdom of the dead while he took the sky's and Posiden took the Oceans.
1. what you mentioned about zeus eating his wife (LOL) was actually the story of zeus' father, kronos: kronos, the god of time, ate his CHILDREN (poseidon, hades, hera, demeter, hestia) and would have eaten zeus if kronos' wife, rhea, hadn't tricked him by making him eat a stone instead of her baby. she sent zeus to live elsewhere, and when he grew up he came back and overthrew kronos in the titanomachy - the war between gods and titans. kronos ate his children because he feared they would grow up to overthrow him the way he had overthrown his own father, uranus. 2. the reason hades wasn't in EPIC was because he didn't show up in the odyssey as a main character. a lot of odysseus' time in the underworld was cut out, such as when he met great warriors who fought alongside him and died during the trojan war (like achilles, who was the main hero of the illiad, the epic tale that was like a prequel to the odyssey/ the odyssey was the sequel, because the illiad was the original.) 3. the characterisation in this movie of the gods is WAY off tbh, for example zeus and hera are a lot more sinister ; zeus in Hercules (his greek name is actually Heracles but wtv) is way too goofy, and his character is more like the menacing womaniser and ruthless king of the gods in EPIC's "thunder bringer," and hera isn't even heracles' mother. heracles is a demi-god, born to a human woman. hera was the one who tried to kill heracles, not hades - if anything, aside from kidnapping his wife, hades is one of the most chill gods in greek mythology. i assume disney just decided to make him the villain because being "god of the underworld" is similar to the western idea of the devil 4. disney confused the fates for another mythological trio who share one eye named the Graeae. you were right about the fates representing past, present, and future - however, usually they're depicted as one sister being a young, beautiful woman (present), a middle-aged woman (past), and an elderly woman (future). the elderly woman representing the future is the one to cut the thread with her scissors 5. achilles and odysseus, who existed at the same time, actually came WAY after heracles, so that's one of disney's inaccuracies; and the individual who trained all those heroes wasn't a satyr named phil (that's someone else), but a centaur named Chiron. if you want to watch a movie to do with the illiad, which is achilles' story, then i recommend Troy 2004, with Brad Pitt as Achilles. he was called "aristos achaion" which means "best of the greeks," because he was the greatest greek warrior in all mythology. his only weakness was the back of his heel, which is why today the term "achilles' heel" refers to someone's weakness. achilles, like heracles, was a demi-god, too 6. the reason why achilles' weakness is his heel is because when he was a baby, his mother dipped him in the River Styx, a river in the underworld, holding him by the heel. every part of his body that was submerged in the water became invulnerable except his heel, since it never got dipped in. achilles died in the trojan war before odysseus came out with his wooden horse trick that is shown in "horse and the infant" in EPIC; it changes just who killed him - either apollo, the god of light (and god of other things, such as archery) who achilles offended, or a trojan prince who started the Trojan War in the first place named paris - but it was damage taken to the heel that killed him 7. the titans didn't really have elemental powers. they were just like gods who were giant 8. just want to reiterate that hades was never a villain in greek mythology,, compared to his brothers zeus and poseidon, he was so low key and even lenient with mortals on several occasions. his involvement in heracles' story is actually so small + the river styx does not kill people like in the movie. it's the river used to transport people to the underworld, and like with achilles' case it can make people invincible. perhaps that is just because achilles was a demi-god but so was heracles, and if the river had any toxic properties then it would not affect him the way it would ordinary humans 9. disney makes this story cute and whatever, but the ending of heracles and megara is no where near as happy. because hera is NOT his mother, its basically a trait of her character to go after the lovers and offspring of zeus not born to her. she repeatedly tries to kill heracles, and on one instance (where meg was already married to heracles and they had children), hera cursed heracles with madness and he killed both her and their children. athena broke him from the madness, and to repent for his sins he then took on 12 Labours which would grant him immortality in the end. all the monsters heracles fought in the disney movie are inspired by his 12 labours, but the reason why he took them on in the first place was not to restore his godhood initially. zeus had many, many children that he did not care about and in the beginning, heracles was no different. he became a hero to atone for killing megara and his children, but then went on to marry 3 more times and had numerous other lovers
So Zeus did technically eat one of his many conquests because there was a prophecy that like his father he would be overthrown. That is how Athena came to be born she fully formed after Hephaestus split his head open.
Also Hera wasnt extactly this nice(which u may know) she hated every woman Zues got involved with and if i recall corectly she wasnt actually Hercule's mom
If you want more Greek Mythology, you should watch the Percy Jackson series (pls don't watch the movies) Also, don't take this movie's facts seriously, cause it has barely anything true to the actual myths. Hercules in reality is pretty much a tragedy actually.
Patroclus (Achilles' lover and the cataclysm that lead to Achilles' demise in the war), Achilles, and Odysseus were all soldiers in the Trojan War. They would've known each other well seeing as the Trojan War lasted 10 years. And then begins the start of the Odyssey that you know from EPIC. A Greek myth that I think you'll find intriguing is the tale of: Orpheus & Eurydice. ☺️
Achilles. An interesting tale. His mother held him by his ankles, as a baby, and dipped him into the river Styx, making him invulnerable...except where she held him, his ankles. As an adult, during a war, an arrow made a lucky strike and hit his heel, causing an injury that eventually left him dead, leaving his male lover behind.
Yes was looking for this comment On that note I do believe the story says a god guided the arrow and the arrow was tiped in poison as well which is what took him down
It's been an age and a half since i did a lot of reading up. Mostly back way way way back during my grade school scholastic bowl days...and now i feel ancient...and I'm 42 now...
You should watch a bootleg or slime tutorial of hadestown. ( slime tutorial is a theatre term for illegal recordings on RUclips so they don’t get taken down) hadestown is a musical about orpheus Eurydice hades and persephone. Love it so muchhhhh❤
16:01 i love that everyone's first reaction to learning Hercules has to become a hero to achieve godhood is "oh that's gonna be easy because he's super strong" 😂 guys, being a hero doesn't mean you go beat up bad guys. Being a hero means you look out for the weak and elderly. Being a hero means doing the hard, scary and often painful things so that others won't suffer. Being a hero is being there when no one else can be and standing firm despite the roaring in your ears. That's what made Hercules a god. Not how many bad things he punched but how far he was willing to go for one person. Up to that point Hercules hadn't really had to give much because he was strong but his life being sucked away while reaching desperately for her was the sacrifice needed to prove his godhood
Idk about any good movies but if you'd be interested in a book there is "The Song Of Achilles" story abt Achilles told from his most faithful companions' prospective maybe you could find it in audio book form?
So basically, on the mystical side of mythology, Achilles' mother was told of his future, that he was destined to die in battle. So she took him to the underworld, and dipped him in the river Styx, which made his whole body impervious to damage. Except for his foot, cause she had to hold him by it so she wouldn't lose her son in the river. And because that point was left exposed, it basically held all of his vulnerability in that one spot, so any injury that would normally be no issue or survivable, he'd die. Also, side note, I'm sure you know this, but just thought I'd mention, but this whole story is Disney-fied, so all the gods here are very different from how they're portrayed in Greek mythology. They had to make Zeus likeable somehow lol so in this, presumably, Zeus is a faithful husband. And a good father lol oh, and Aphrodite was the one who kissed Phil. But yeah, hardly any of the things you see in this movie is what happened in the original mythology lol
38:40 Hephaestus, the one who forges the weapons. Born so ugly and misshapen, when he was born, Hera, his mother, flung him from Olympus. This ugly god is married to Aphrodite, the most beautiful goddess...who cheats on him with Ares.
If you are really into mythology, the Percy Jackson series is also good, it's about the demigod son of Poseidon. I recommend watching it, it's on Disney+.
Duh! It's obvious why he wasn't a hero earlier. Beating something without fear isn't a great or big thing. He was just a celebrity, nothing more and nothing less. His attitude tells everything "I have my own marchandise" pft so what, big deal. The moment when he was afraid yet he acted, protected someone...that made him a hero. Being brave despite the fear, sacrificing his own life. That's why for me true heroes are firemen and people who rescue people from mountains or ocean where accidents happen. They risk their own life to save others, strangers aka people they never met. As mythology lover this movie pissed me off. Let's straighten couple facts: 1. Hercule was always half God, son of a mortal whom Zeus raped. Yes, you heared that right: raped! 2. Hera hated Hercules with burning passion and tried to kill him practically all the time 3. Hades was actually the only normal and good guy among other gods. Once he fell in love and girl loved him back he never ever cheated on her, wasn't mass murdering psycho like the rest of them 4. The love between Meg and Hercules was pretty damn short lived: he murdered her without reason after only three years of them being together.
Oh, that is a Hydra then hydras if you chop up their head two grow back in his place, as you can see there in the scene 27:07 now you know about one of the monsters of Greek mythology. I’m pretty sure all of these are from. Greek mythology.
Gotta tell you, Esmeralda from the Humchback of Notre Dame is my supreme Disney crush, but Meg is pretty close. Also Hera from Blood of Zeus though she is not Disney and she is a toxic killer 🥲…
Sort of a random fun fact, but in Lady and the Tramp 2: Scamp's Adventure, Scamp's singing voice was provided by Roger Bart, who was Hercules's singing voice in this movie. Susan Egan, who voiced Meg, was also the singing voice for Angel in Lady and the Tramp 2. That movie also marked the first time they sang together in a movie. Edit: there's also a tv series based on this. Hercules: the Animated Series. A bunch of mythological figures are featured in it.
The "God of War" games aren't the most accurate when it comes to Greek and Norse mythology, but it's an easy way to get an idea about just how awful some gods were in them. Despite Kratos only being created to be the main character of the games, you get to see a lot of stuff you may have heard about in a well-written and epic way. All the games before "God of War (2018)" are Greek with the last few being Norse. I loved watching your reaction, and thank you for reading my comment!
The creator with the multiple heads was a Hyrda legend says for every head you cut off three more grow back. Only way to kill them is to either strike the heart of cut off all the heads and cartarize the stumps before more heads csn grow back.
You were asking if there was a movie with Achille's, i think it's called Troy, but i saw the movie a while ago. Pretty good movie too if you want to know more about him, and a good cast.
In Ancient times the Greek people built huge temples and statues of the Various Gods. Many of them were destroyed by raiders or over time. But im sure there are plenty of tourist sights in Greece if you ever go.
If you want to watch a movie about Achilles, there's the movie Troy starring Brad Pitt as Achilles. Also, if you want a Disney parody (of Aladdin specifically, but Disney in general), Twisted is a good one. It's a musical from Team Starkid and the whole thing can be found on RUclips.
I dont think anyone said this yet, but Hades isnt evil. The story is when the 3 brothers killed their dad and took control Zeus decided who would do what. He gave himself the sky, his brother Poseidon the sea, and his other brother Hades the underworld where all souls go after death (not to be confused with the Christian hell that is ruled by the devil). Hades hates the underworld and wants to be up above in a nicer spot but Zeus says tough crap. This causes a huge rival between the 2 brothers with (in most stories) Hades eventually getting fed up enough to try and take over Olympus by any means necessary.
@shyguy+ There a girl that make evil version of songs like Hercules where Meg was the villain. It is very good and I think you’ll love it her name is Lydia the bard. Ps. I just started watching your video and I love them all❤
If you want the short version of Achilles... he was dipped in the river Styx by his divine mother, making him invulnerable- except for his heel, which is where his mother's fingers were covering his skin. This prevented the water from reaching that spot, and thus leaving it as a weak spot. His death (which was arguably very well deserved) came about when an archer got him in the heel with a poisoned arrow.
"Zeus you can't say this, with the ceating on your wife and all. What is this?" Disney. That's what this is. That's why Hera is so nice here too XDD Also I so get you falling for Meg. She was one of my first childhood crushes 😂
Achilles was a warrior who supportedly had no weakness because his mother bathed him in the river Stix which will make you near impossible to kill but if you fall into the river you will never make it out alive so his mother had to hold onto him to prevent him from being lost to the river. She held onto him by his heal so thats why it was his one weakness ie the Achilles heal. Of course the story never made sense to me, i mean why not have him dip his fioot into the river after pulling him out, or why not simply submerge your hand thats holding him into the water? Not only would he then be invincible on every part of his body but you would also have an invincible arm.
Actually "Hercules" is the Roman counterpart, "Heracles" is the Greek Mythology one. This movie is amazing but is not an appropriate representation of the actual Greek Mythology. Main thing about Heracles is that Hera hates him because he's another demigod son of Zeus, hence the 12 labors.
And to add, Heracles wasn't hated by the public, they loved him because of his god-like strength he was the one protecting the town from beasts and other threats.
also i think when you mentioned the whole zeus eating his kid thing, you were also thinking of saturn. cronos is the father of zeus and hera and all those other gods but he also swallowed most of his kids trying to avoid a prophecy lol and mind you cronos overthrew HIS father ouranos.
also the more you look into mythology the more you realize how much language itself is intertwined with these gods and the concepts they represented. ie: the word chronology coming from the greek word for time, which is what cronos was the god of. and i don’t mean just in greek mythology. english week days are named after norse gods ie: thursday = thor’s day, friday = frigg’s day, and most obviously sunday and monday are named after the sun and moon. spanish week days are also easy to connect to different gods, AND btw in astrology these days are ruled by the planets they’re named over and associated with the themes of those planets too. astrology goes hand in hand with mythology, and both are buried within languages.
Seconding the requests begging you to react to Hadestown! 💖 Oh btw, A Christmas Carol (which you brought up when you were learning about The Fates and the ghost of Christmas past etc etc) isn't Christian like you said.
It must be weird seeing this movie after epic the musical, right? But seriously, this is one of my favorite movies even though I haven’t seen it during my childhood. I did see it during my teenage years and I loved it, even though it is inaccurate. Also, I did watch the TV series for Hercules
So the Zeus thing is his birth story. It was his father, Kronos (Saturn) who heard one of children would overthrow him. He began eating all his children. Kronos’s wife wrapped a rock up like baby Zeus. Kronos swallowed the rock and he ended up throwing all the kids back up. Zeus survived and does grow up to defeat his father and trap him I believe
if you wanna learn more about mythology but aren’t a fan of reading, Overly Sarcastic Productions is a really good channel to check out. they have videos on individual gods (aphrodite, hermes, persephone, etc.) as well as video summaries of specific myth stories or even classics, ie: the iliad. that’s actually how i found their channel, i took a world lit course where we read bits of the iliad (this contains the iconic Achilles and sooo much fun hilarious god family drama/bickering). oh also in the iliad, achilles beats a river’s ass because the river got mad at him for putting so many bodies in it. i would so choose the iliad over the aeneid or the odyssey any dayyy
Good! I love this movie. However, since you see Zeus being a lovely parent and husband, you know most of the story isn't really like the original xD hahaha
Imma be honest I’ve never really been able to enjoy Hercules (I’ve been a huge fan of Greek mythology ever since reading pjo) but the songs have always slapped
If you like Greek mythology, you should watch the Percy Jackson movies or series. Also, you should read the Illiad (all about Achilles), the Odyssey (all about Odysseus), and the Aenead (all about Aeneus)
So the three main gods of Olympus are the sons of the Titan, their father Kronos Kronos tried to kill them, and then they ended up killing their father and locking him in Taurus brothers are Zeus Hades and Poseidon. Poseidon is the one who is able to control the sea and apologies such cool topic to hit on for one of my classes in school. We had to do a project and we had to make whatever a vase 🏺 but a Greek god or goddess or any Greek person had to be represented and there had to be a story behind it and I did Medusa because there’s so many different theories about Medusa, but apparently the first one is she was in love with Zeus and Zeus‘s wife turned her into a gargoyle/serpent with hair because Zeus‘s wife was also jealous of her beautiful hair and mad that Zeus was so infatuated with her And the story I learned from search is that she also had two sisters and they were born the way that they but I couldn’t get a lot of research because it was only a two day project
The history of Medusa dates back to early Greece when the Minoan people worshipped goddesses. From recorded classical mythology we can see the origins of Homer and Hesiod about the three Gorgon sisters, children of of the sea monsters Phocis and Cetus, with Medusa inexplicably the only mortal of the three, and has the most famous one written by the Roman poet Ovídio he says that Medusa served as a priestess Of Athena who was raped by Poseidon in the temple of Athena herself, enraged by the desecration of her temple she took out her fury on Medusa transforming her into a Gorgon, since then there have been many versions of the same story with Medusa being in love with Poseidon and purposely desecrating the temple, with Hera and Zeus being the gods of this story instead of Athena and Poseidon, and much more
Welcome to the most child-friendly version of mythology! Note how even Disney couldn't make everything actually good about the gods, and couldn't escape a reference to SA (Meg and the river guardian...) Greek mythology is an awesome set of stories, but wow do you run into problems when trying to adapt them...
You was close, his name os Hafestous though thats probably not the way you spell it. Hephestis is the son of Zeus and Hera when he was born he looked so ugly that Hera hates him and threw him from her site. He became the god of the forge. He makes weapons for the other gods including Zeus lightning bolts. He is married to the beauty goddess of love though ill misspell her name too its Aphrodity. But she always cheats on him with Aries god of War.
So uh. I LOVE your interest in Greek mythology but tbh, this wasn't the movie to learn about it from. It took SO MANY liberties with the source material.
This movie is way off, Hades was never evil. Hes simply tje God of the dead, he is the judge for your final resting place, because of this they treat him like hes evil.
Zeus is a god but actually GOD. This movie tells a bit of Greek gods but they also tell the truth of where the titans are. The Bible tells that god will return but only when the antichrist arrives along with his 3helpers. Nd when that happens earth, fire, destruction (titans) will happen. Zeus sound the alarm thru Hermes (trumpets mentioned in bible). There’s a lot but when you get more into Greek mythology it starts to connect with the Bible even in ancient scriptures.
James Woods (Hades) loved this role so much, he, if memory serves, he did the role at a vastly reduced pay to help keep the production near budget, and volunteered to reprise the role for anything using Hades in the future, such as games.
and imglad he did cause this movie was so goodd!!!
Too bad he's pro genocide now, crazy how things change
That is true! I love that he reprise's as Hades in all the Kingdom Hearts games, hoping he does for #4 as well!

Was it a poisoned arrow? That seems odd to me.
That would imply if someone got him to drink poison, that would also kill him.

His and Hector's death is the beginning of the end of the Trojan War which then leads directly into the Odyssey
Just to keep you in the know...Disney Disneyfied the Grecian lore for the movie. Omg yessssss
I second this.
I think you’d really love The Prince of Egypt!
Techniqually Phil is a creation of disney Chiron was the one who trained heros and he was a Centaur/god
In terms of using Greek mythology in this movie, Disney really kept it at a minimum and changed a lot of the details. Not to say the movie is bad, I love it a lot and it is one of the movies I rewatch a lot, but in terms of wanting to learn more about Greek mythology... it's not a great movie for that. ^^;
So here's a few differences in the story since you seem interested in mythology:
1.) For one, Hera is not Herakle's mother.
Thank u I was wondering if anyone else would post this and glade u remember names or close to the names cause I couldn't

@ it will eventually come to RUclips don’t worry!!!😊 I got u
@ omg, ok, thanks 😚🫶🏻
Hunchback of notre dame…. The BEST most ICONIC villain song in all of Disney I’d argue…. Def watch it. ❤
3:34 no that Zeus dad
ahhhhhhhhhhhhh
@@ShyGuyPlus you should listen to the Percy Jackson musical! the first song actually has a quick telling of this story in it
@ShyGuyPlus Zeus father was Kronos the Titan of time.
2. the reason hades wasn't in EPIC was because he didn't show up in the odyssey as a main character. a lot of odysseus' time in the underworld was cut out, such as when he met great warriors who fought alongside him and died during the trojan war (like achilles, who was the main hero of the illiad, the epic tale that was like a prequel to the odyssey/ the odyssey was the sequel, because the illiad was the original.)
3. the characterisation in this movie of the gods is WAY off tbh, for example zeus and hera are a lot more sinister ; zeus in Hercules (his greek name is actually Heracles but wtv) is way too goofy, and his character is more like the menacing womaniser and ruthless king of the gods in EPIC's "thunder bringer," and hera isn't even heracles' mother. heracles is a demi-god, born to a human woman. hera was the one who tried to kill heracles, not hades - if anything, aside from kidnapping his wife, hades is one of the most chill gods in greek mythology. i assume disney just decided to make him the villain because being "god of the underworld" is similar to the western idea of the devil
4. disney confused the fates for another mythological trio who share one eye named the Graeae. you were right about the fates representing past, present, and future - however, usually they're depicted as one sister being a young, beautiful woman (present), a middle-aged woman (past), and an elderly woman (future). the elderly woman representing the future is the one to cut the thread with her scissors
5. achilles and odysseus, who existed at the same time, actually came WAY after heracles, so that's one of disney's inaccuracies; and the individual who trained all those heroes wasn't a satyr named phil (that's someone else), but a centaur named Chiron.
if you want to watch a movie to do with the illiad, which is achilles' story, then i recommend Troy 2004, with Brad Pitt as Achilles. he was called "aristos achaion" which means "best of the greeks," because he was the greatest greek warrior in all mythology. his only weakness was the back of his heel, which is why today the term "achilles' heel" refers to someone's weakness. achilles, like heracles, was a demi-god, too
6. the reason why achilles' weakness is his heel is because when he was a baby, his mother dipped him in the River Styx, a river in the underworld, holding him by the heel. every part of his body that was submerged in the water became invulnerable except his heel, since it never got dipped in. achilles died in the trojan war before odysseus came out with his wooden horse trick that is shown in "horse and the infant" in EPIC; it changes just who killed him - either apollo, the god of light (and god of other things, such as archery) who achilles offended, or a trojan prince who started the Trojan War in the first place named paris - but it was damage taken to the heel that killed him
7. the titans didn't really have elemental powers. they were just like gods who were giant
8. just want to reiterate that hades was never a villain in greek mythology,, compared to his brothers zeus and poseidon, he was so low key and even lenient with mortals on several occasions. his involvement in heracles' story is actually so small + the river styx does not kill people like in the movie. it's the river used to transport people to the underworld, and like with achilles' case it can make people invincible. perhaps that is just because achilles was a demi-god but so was heracles, and if the river had any toxic properties then it would not affect him the way it would ordinary humans
9. disney makes this story cute and whatever, but the ending of heracles and megara is no where near as happy. because hera is NOT his mother, its basically a trait of her character to go after the lovers and offspring of zeus not born to her. she repeatedly tries to kill heracles, and on one instance (where meg was already married to heracles and they had children), hera cursed heracles with madness and he killed both her and their children. athena broke him from the madness, and to repent for his sins he then took on 12 Labours which would grant him immortality in the end. all the monsters heracles fought in the disney movie are inspired by his 12 labours, but the reason why he took them on in the first place was not to restore his godhood initially. zeus had many, many children that he did not care about and in the beginning, heracles was no different. he became a hero to atone for killing megara and his children, but then went on to marry 3 more times and had numerous other lovers
When Hades says it's only halftime it's halfway through the movie 😅
So Zeus did technically eat one of his many conquests because there was a prophecy that like his father he would be overthrown. That is how Athena came to be born she fully formed after Hephaestus split his head open.
Also Hera wasnt extactly this nice(which u may know) she hated every woman Zues got involved with and if i recall corectly she wasnt actually Hercule's mom
I believe he was called Heracles (originally) in myth as an attempt to appease Hera
If you want more Greek Mythology, you should watch the Percy Jackson series (pls don't watch the movies)
Also, don't take this movie's facts seriously, cause it has barely anything true to the actual myths. Hercules in reality is pretty much a tragedy actually.
1:17 so real. can’t watch anything without them, it’s a pain when it’s not available. i just turn the volume up a lot so i can hear it properly 😭
Ariana Grande recorded a version of the Love song where she sings it in 6 parts! It’s worth a look.
i will def do that!
Highly reccomend the Lightning Theif musical its in the same vein as Epic and Hercules based on the Percy jackson books oh and theres Hadestown
Yes was looking for this comment
On that note I do believe the story says a god guided the arrow and the arrow was tiped in poison as well which is what took him down
It's been an age and a half since i did a lot of reading up. Mostly back way way way back during my grade school scholastic bowl days...and now i feel ancient...and I'm 42 now...
@thebeardedbrony9586 lol I here u I really liked learning about the Greek mythology in high school though don't ask me to name all the gods
You should watch a bootleg or slime tutorial of hadestown. ( slime tutorial is a theatre term for illegal recordings on RUclips so they don’t get taken down) hadestown is a musical about orpheus Eurydice hades and persephone. Love it so muchhhhh❤
That or animatics!
33:16 I think it’s the opposite our Achilles was named after him I stand to be corrected though
38:40 Hephaestus, the one who forges the weapons. Born so ugly and misshapen, when he was born, Hera, his mother, flung him from Olympus. This ugly god is married to Aphrodite, the most beautiful goddess...who cheats on him with Ares.
You would love the Percy Jackson musical!!
Please, PLEASE continue your reaction to Hadestown. It gives you context for the myth of Hades and Persephone (his wife) and Orpheus and Eurydice 😭🙏
If you are really into mythology, the Percy Jackson series is also good, it's about the demigod son of Poseidon. I recommend watching it, it's on Disney+.
I love his obsession over Meg it's so cute!
Let's straighten couple facts:
1. Hercule was always half God, son of a mortal whom Zeus raped. Yes, you heared that right: raped!
2. Hera hated Hercules with burning passion and tried to kill him practically all the time
3. Hades was actually the only normal and good guy among other gods. Once he fell in love and girl loved him back he never ever cheated on her, wasn't mass murdering psycho like the rest of them
4. The love between Meg and Hercules was pretty damn short lived: he murdered her without reason after only three years of them being together.
19:26 (original) karate kid reference!
In my opinion Hercules is potentially the best Disney film!
nawww your opinion is the best one cause i agree lolllll
a great live-action movie about Greek mythology is The Odyssey (1997). The 2 Percy Jackson movies from the early 2010s are also pretty good.
The muses really are what make this movie next level ❤
Price of Egypt next! It’s phenomenal.
I hope your next disney movie is the lilo and stitch series to be ready for the live action version this year 😊
The "God of War" games aren't the most accurate when it comes to Greek and Norse mythology, but it's an easy way to get an idea about just how awful some gods were in them.
33:00 are you now knowing this😂😂 anyways love your reactions 🙏🏾❤️
yesss lmaooooo and thank you so much!!!!!!!
@@ShyGuyPlusyou’re welcome ❤️
I Can’t hear without my subtitles so samee 😂
right!!!!!!!!!!
@shyguy+
There a girl that make evil version of songs like Hercules where Meg was the villain.
Nemphs are Water spirits and tree spirits.
"Zeus you can't say this, with the ceating on your wife and all. What is this?" Disney. That's what this is. That's why Hera is so nice here too XDD
Also I so get you falling for Meg.
I think there is a movie with Achilles' story.. the movie is called TROY, and Brad Pitt is Achilles in the story...
big fan of the pretty pink pegasus
Fun fact. Hade's half time comment, comes at the exact half way point of the movie.
Fun fact Odysseus and Hercules are both greek heros and met each other
thats actually a really cool fact!!
Did you know that Mount Olympus is an actual mountain? There's nothing on the top of it, but it is a for real mountain that you can actually visit
Shy Guy did something happen to your other channel?
Goofy movie and Tarzan if you haven’t already please
I mean... if people were to build a temple for Zeus, why wouldn't it be on the floor? XD
If you want to watch something with Achilles in it, I recommend the movie troy, Has some great action.
I got Sour Patch Kids I guess I'm going to start having snacks for your videos now 🤷🏾♂️
lesss goooo snacks are important
also i think when you mentioned the whole zeus eating his kid thing, you were also thinking of saturn. cronos is the father of zeus and hera and all those other gods but he also swallowed most of his kids trying to avoid a prophecy lol and mind you cronos overthrew HIS father ouranos.
also the more you look into mythology the more you realize how much language itself is intertwined with these gods and the concepts they represented. ie: the word chronology coming from the greek word for time, which is what cronos was the god of. and i don’t mean just in greek mythology. english week days are named after norse gods ie: thursday = thor’s day, friday = frigg’s day, and most obviously sunday and monday are named after the sun and moon. spanish week days are also easy to connect to different gods, AND btw in astrology these days are ruled by the planets they’re named over and associated with the themes of those planets too. astrology goes hand in hand with mythology, and both are buried within languages.
Seconding the requests begging you to react to Hadestown! 💖 Oh btw, A Christmas Carol (which you brought up when you were learning about The Fates and the ghost of Christmas past etc etc) isn't Christian like you said.
You should check out the Percy Jackson books or tv series. They're a really cool take on Greek myths
A great movie about Achilles is the movie Troy.
Zeus did this too, with his first wife Metis.
A very good series that I recommend is Blood Of Zeus from Netflix
if you wanna learn more about mythology but aren’t a fan of reading, Overly Sarcastic Productions is a really good channel to check out. they have videos on individual gods (aphrodite, hermes, persephone, etc.) as well as video summaries of specific myth stories or even classics, ie: the iliad. that’s actually how i found their channel, i took a world lit course where we read bits of the iliad (this contains the iconic Achilles and sooo much fun hilarious god family drama/bickering). oh also in the iliad, achilles beats a river’s ass because the river got mad at him for putting so many bodies in it. i would so choose the iliad over the aeneid or the odyssey any dayyy
Its more like he is 1 percent god. That 1 percent was enough for him to keep his super strength but lose all his others godly powers.
Good! I love this movie. However, since you see Zeus being a lovely parent and husband, you know most of the story isn't really like the original xD hahaha
Hell ya, theres a lot of greek mythology made into movies and shows
So you were lied to. Kronos, Zeus's dad, ate his children because it was foretold that hed have a son that would kill him.
Have you ever watched Percy Jackson?? If your into Greek mythology you might like that
3:28 you go it wrong that's Kronos/Cronus Zues's dad
Zeus did this also with his first wife Metis, mother of Athena.
In Epic The Musical Hades was going to be in God Games but he was cut
YOU NEVER FAIL and I love that YOU have never watched ANYTHING bc I love watching these ahahha
Omg you have to watch Percy Jackson and the Olympians series now!
But i hope he watches the show, cause the movie are terrible compared to the books
We had to do a project and we had to make whatever a vase 🏺 but a Greek god or goddess or any Greek person had to be represented and there had to be a story behind it and I did Medusa because there’s so many different theories about Medusa, but apparently the first one is she was in love with Zeus and Zeus‘s wife turned her into a gargoyle/serpent with hair because Zeus‘s wife was also jealous of her beautiful hair and mad that Zeus was so infatuated with her
And the story I learned from search is that she also had two sisters and they were born the way that they but I couldn’t get a lot of research because it was only a two day project
The history of Medusa dates back to early Greece when the Minoan people worshipped goddesses. From recorded classical mythology we can see the origins of Homer and Hesiod about the three Gorgon sisters, children of of the sea monsters Phocis and Cetus, with Medusa inexplicably the only mortal of the three, and has the most famous one written by the Roman poet Ovídio he says that Medusa served as a priestess Of Athena who was raped by Poseidon in the temple of Athena herself, enraged by the desecration of her temple she took out her fury on Medusa transforming her into a Gorgon, since then there have been many versions of the same story with Medusa being in love with Poseidon and purposely desecrating the temple, with Hera and Zeus being the gods of this story instead of Athena and Poseidon, and much more
@andrew_rickard so sad, something awful happened to medusa then gets
Punished because the man violated her
You should watch Overly Sarcastic Productions video on Hercules and the Odyssey if you can
Welcome to the most child-friendly version of mythology! Note how even Disney couldn't make everything actually good about the gods, and couldn't escape a reference to SA (Meg and the river guardian...) Greek mythology is an awesome set of stories, but wow do you run into problems when trying to adapt them...
I think you should react to some anime like hamtaro or fruits basket remake and beastars
Suggestion.
Treasure Planet.
Emperor's new groove
Atlantis the lost empire
Next can you react to Brave🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Please react to Who Framed Roger Rabbit 👌🤘🤙✌️😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🙏
I like your channel so much my name is seivion fisher I have a autism
aww thank you so very much, how are you fisher
Your welcome and I like Disney movie so much
You should watch more of descendents or the green mile
This movie is way off, Hades was never evil. Hes simply tje God of the dead, he is the judge for your final resting place, because of this they treat him like hes evil.
Zeus did not eat his wife.
Omg you’re talking over all the jokes
you should watch tarzan 🌱
