Thats Flagg St, Cambridge Ma in the background at the beginning. Looks like he's walking on Banks St, the Riverside neighborhood. He probably just turned off of Flagg, down the street from the Putnam Gardens projects where he used to hoop it up at Corporal Burns playground. Black, white, Puerto Rican players, some of the very best in the Boston metro area all played there as well as up in North Cambridge, East Cambridge and Somerville.
"We are the mighty mighty Warriors, We don't give a hoot about you!" I'm from Worcester and I can still remember the 1980 state championship game against North High and Larry Hampton and in 1981 against Holy Name and Dwayne McClain, both won, unfortunately for us, by CRL. Patrick was huge! Dwayne would get his revenge in 1985 with Villanova in the National Championship game. Great stuff, all of those guys were great players, Patrick, Dwayne, Larry.
In high school and even college Ewing was the can’t miss prospect despite both being known commodities. Jordan was a top recruit, seen very highly by UNC in particular, among others. But Ewing was seen as something else. This is fact and the program is correct in much of it’s assessments
Ewing brought Georgetown to 3 college championship games and won 1 of em. He was drafted number 1 overall. He was a better project then Jordan , but ended up not as good as Jordan . Doesn't change he was the better prospect and player overall during everything leading up to there nba careers
Eyes weren't on Jordan like that. Besides, at this point in the game, it was still all about the big man (though that would verrrry slowly start to change).
How good was bc was then? Cause i feel like they are only being considered cause he plays im their backyard. He had a pick among the cream of the crop.
@@S1LVAW0LF They actually were pretty good. They had just gotten through a major gambling point shaving scandal but Dr. Tom Davis was the coach and they had some tournament teams in the early 80's. But your probably right on that they were considered cause they were in his back yard. He did have his pick of where he wanted to go for sure. I think the first time Ewing played BC in Boston BC won. They had John Bagley Michael Adam's Jay Murphy during those years and actually in 85 when the Big East had Georgetown Villanova and St. Johns in the final 4, BC lost in the round of 16 on a last second shot vs Memphis State. Guess that was the height of the Big East
Wow. This is awesome footage. Any chance we could see more of this program please?
Patrick IS the American dream. This man walks and lives it. I lived in Cambridge for years. Pat ain't no joke.

"He is the best high school basketball player in the country."
Michael Jordan was also a high school senior at that time.

@@seank3410 Back then they valued 7 footers more than guards
Jordan wasn’t even considered the best incoming freshman for UNC. That’s how underrated he was.

Goat changed the game of basketball those that know know
How different things could have been for Boston College in the Big East if Ewing would have stayed local ??
