Since Darren did so many great tracks, it was hard to just pick 1 track to talk about. So, even though he was very busy, we did another interview, which will be online in a few weeks. In that interview we talk about the story behind "Angelic - It's My Turn". So, stay tuned! So what is your favorite Darren Tate production or remix?
Darren Tate Vs. Jono Grant - Let The Light Shine In (Original Mix) Darren Tate - Prayer For A God (Original Mix) Orion vs Ayla - Eternity (Darren Tate Mix)
There literally has to be at least ten tracks that share that place lol. His quality of output was the highest in the industry. Similar to what Ferry was doing. Citizen Cane - The Journey, Wilderness and The Theme are probably my top three ♥️
So many. Darren made emotional trance music that had a classical music approach as he could orchestrate aswell as produce Some of my favourites are Orion See Me Here, Eternity, DT8 project Destination, Jurgen Vries The Opera Song and Angelic Its My Turn amongst others. He is one of the greats
The man whose music saved my life back when I was bullied and now present day, I am proud to have my music recognized by him. Thanks Twan for a great interview as always, your purity and devotion to music is unparalleled
DT8 Project Feat. Andrea Britton WINTER OMG Unbelievable Song i broke a few car subwoofers playing that endlessly . Thank you Twan for doing the time and interview and Darren man you know how to produce, keep doing your thing .
Another great interview, Twan! I had the pleasure of meeting Darren recently, at a small trance event in Kent, UK. I simply approached him and asked for a photo after his set, and he invited me to stay and chill with him and his friends. We chatted about trance. It was clear how much he loves what he does, and how he loves small, intimate venues. He really is an incredible guy; very sociable, warm, and a little quirky and fun. Twan, you are a legend. Rikki
Interesting to hear the story behind the project name. I think at the time a lot of people knew Jurgen Vries was not German/Dutch and that maybe it was a gimmick to try and sell more records and give it more credibility up against the Armins, van dyks and Ferrys of the time. Ironic that this choice of name ended up doing the exact opposite (well I thought so anyway but this didn't prevent me from buying it and playing it out lol). Still a good track and not much else like it about either. Good interview as always Twan.
Thank you! And I remember there were a few different stories about the artis name back then, so I thought I should clear it all up for once haha ;-) Glad you enjoyed the interview, thanks for your comment! :)
Iow3freq music 100% could not agree more - I think you can tell from Darren’s compositions alone he has that background which makes him a stand out artist. Also a lovely guy to speak too!
I first discovered The Theme while randomly browsing the Ministry of Sound website and saw the cool animated music video of it playing. It was amazing and so different from other tracks at the time. It's still an outstanding track even now. I was shocked to find out that Darren Tate was behind the Jurgen Vries name since he put "Destination" out that same year under DT8 which was also a great (vocal) track that was buzzing in the TranceAddict forums at the time. LOL that elephant story was quite amusing! 🐘 #DarrenTateAKAtheElephant
This was very interesting to hear actually. I always thought of "The Theme" as a huge anthem, so I find it baffling that it was even refused. It just had huge 2000-ish riff that was popular in that Era. Personally speaking, I wasn't a huge fan of that record in particular, but absolutely loved Citizen Caned - "The Journey ", including his Angelic project. Thanks for the interview, Twan. Side note, and I know it's been mentioned quite a few times in these interviews, but it's just refreshing to see these producers and DJs, who created and defined an entire Era, being so down to earth and humble. Today's EDM artists are just so arrogant, about pieces of music that probably 90% of the time, they didn't even produce themselves, lol.
Thanks for the interview Twan, as always very interesting. Darren has made so many great tracks including some of my all time favourites. I interviewed him myself like 13 years ago, he sure has changed appearance wise but still seems to be a great guy.
A very nice interview again. Great job. It was good to know how the name Jurgen Vries came about. Nice details there. Also, good to know about his current and upcoming works. His new releases in recent times have been top notch as well. He is a cool guy. I am glad I got to see and meet him at Lumi last year.
Have this vinyl, but I prefer Dumonde remix. It has more power and energy inside. Btw I am sure these videos will become Golden themselves one day, coz this is the real history of our favorite tunes, their background. If I would be an author of a trance classic track (Van Buuren for example) i would invite Twan myself and cover all the costs. I wonder why artists dont do that, they will not be on the top forever. This is a great option to share the history of success.
Thanks for this interview. I have to admit that I haven't heard this track before. Main Lead reminds me a little of Beam & Yanou - Sound of Love from 2000. Both tracks have not only a similar sound but the main melodic lines are played in Legato mode which subsequent sounds are played smoothly, without gaps between them.
I live in UK. I like trance but it is hard to find people especially in London who are into trance. However, that interview tells me that trance was big in 2000s in UK comparing to 2019.
I don''t live in the UK myself, but I know that in 1999-2003 it was pretty big there! I know Ministry Of Sound has trance parties still in The Gallery, really big names as well! ;-) Hope you enjoyed the interview!
Another good interview, Twan! Dj Elephant, I mean Darren Tate is one of my favorite producers ever, but if I had to choose only 3 tracks I think they would be: Let the light shine in, It's my turn and Now we are free.
Very interesting interview! Amazing no one wanted to sign it....and also 'Elephant' is one of his best productions imo, such an uplifing record, blows all modern Trance out of the water still :) Funny story though.
Thank you! And since I started doing these vlogs, I found out that a lot of tracks (and some BIG classics) were very hard to sign, crazy! But I love to hear those stories hehe ;-)
Without ever having tried to look it up, i've always wanted to know who this "Jurgen Vries" was, well now i know! I saw the videoclip on tv before i heard the song by itself. That's what captivated me.
Thank you! I did a lot of trance interviews already (and no worries, there will be more!), but I am also trying to focus more on other genres. Since these vlogs take a lot of time and energy, I'm pretty picky. So I usually pick a big hit or classic instead of tracks that are lesser-known for a bigger audience. So that's where my focus is. I currently have no time to record any new interviews anyway, since my posting schedule is full already until early February 2020. So to answer your question; I don't really have plans (for now) to ask them anytime soon.
@@muzikxpress Aw man for real? Sigh...I know, its always about the views these days and trying to get as many people to watch as you can. But another way that I see it, you can indeed bring some attention to these long time standing artists who deserve it as they have been in the scene for a long time and once had a lot of popularity but have fallen off the radar in recent times. Like for example, Temple One's track "World Beyond" Was once on the charts back in the glory days of enhanced music, or Estiva "I Feel Fine".
