Richard, almost signed one of my tracks a few years ago. In the end he decided, I wasn’t quite ready. The email he sent me was really special he took time to explain why he made the decision not to sign and told me to keep working on my sound to reach my potential. To be honest to just have one of my hero’s like one of my tracks and say these things means a lot.
Top bloke!!!
One of the greatest songs in the history of recorded music.
I respect him so much for keeping trance alive. I met him at concert last year he was really nice
I probably would've never kept up with or came back to the trance scene if it wasn't for him.
My wife and I had the Ambient Dub mix of Seven Cities playing when we got married and were signing the register. It’s such a loved-up track and we’re still happily married 24 years later. It still brings a tear of happiness to my eye when I hear it.
Late 90s / early 00s, the time of trance. Anybody who knows trance, knows that this is one of a handful of defining tracks, from that era. Absolutely belter that sounds as fresh today as it did 20 years ago. Every time i drop this, it takes me back 20 years and has the ability to make me tear up. Solarstone, I salute you, will go down in time as one of the all time classics.
I was a trance DJ in the 90s and remember hearing this record and being blown away by it, wondering who the wizard was who'd come up with this; it stood out so much from everything else. Props to Rich for staying true to the pure sound, I felt exactly the same way when it suddenly became 'uncool'. Good on him.
How about a Solarstone+Thrillseekers collab? Both incredibly melodious, I'd grin from ear to ear to hear what the two could make together..
Even After years.. Seven cities track gives me goosebumps 😇👍even though it's playing in the in the background 😂😂👌no doubt Trance track of the millenia😇👏👏4ever, Solar coaster and Seven Cities my 3 favourite Solarstone tracks of the century 😇👌Love these tracks now and 4ever🙌
Songs just don't get made like this anymore no stories behind the modern stuff
Whenever I hear this the original song it brings tears to my eyes, it's just so beautiful. It has to be my #1 Trance favorite. Number 2 being "Myrah" by Ronny K.
This really is one of the greatest Trance anthems to have ever been made.
It’s got everything a Trance song needs to be remembered. It’s Pure Uplifting, Emotional and the Synths are absolutely euphoric.
I always think that when these kind of songs are made that there’s more at work than just a person thinking. It’s like the Universe is gifting the planet with something that will be remembered as time goes on.
What a feeling this must have been to have made this yourself and have listened to this for the first time.
My masterpiece is Complete 🙌🏻
This bloke is absolute class
What an absolute tune this is. I've loved it for so many years - Seven Cities just doesn't get old!
Solarcoaster is pure beauty. When the 'True Romance' sample hits.....Goosebumps......everytime!!!
I’ll never forget the first time I heard his Pure Mix of Seven Cities on Beatport, absolutely breathtaking. A magical moment.
what a great artist he is, his Pure Trance concept is a stronghold for the trance scene preserving the deep non-compromised soul of the genre, Armin take lesson!
You're a dumbass. Armin is still doing Trance. Only difference is the subgenre and BPM.
Easy now. Keep it civil yeah?
Armin’s audience is different, which attracts more mainstream party crowds now. Pure Trance has a smaller more niche audience. I think Rich works very hard to promote/produce actual trance these days.
@@showdown2006 Armin's audience isn't 'mainstream party crowds'. His audience is people who's main genre is Trance, but also listen to other styles of music. Doesn't make them mainstream.
People who call him mainstream are trying to put him in a bad light.
@@wolterzz3267 sorry but I disagree. Armin barely plays trance anymore. Heck he doesn’t even play the entire 2 hrs of his own radio show anymore. ASOT is nothing more than a brand now that completely misrepresents the trance genre.
His words are so inspiring! You can clearly get that this guy has ‘Pure’ passion for music 😊
Exactly, you can tell that he is super passionate about trance and just music in general! :)
I actually e-mailed Rich over a decade ago asking about that "guitar" sound, I am sure (if I recall right) he mentioned it was a JV 1080 sound with, as he mentions, a big FX chain. You can now get that sound (or very close to it) on Reveal Sound Spire, think it was Factory SoundBank 5.
Oh oh, the mystery revealed, sorry Rich ;-)
Nord Lead 3, came vey close with mine.
This is without a doubt the greatest trance track of all time.
Such a beauty right??
The second best for me.
TranceElevation what’s ur number 1

It's a great track but as far as SolarStone goes, Solarcoaster edges it for me. Used to listen to that one on repeat on ISOS 3.
Rich is an absolute legend, not only in the past but also right now and everything he is doing for the scene with his music and label. Huge respect to him, I think he is probably keeping Trance in the game for another 15+ years at least.
Very cool interview, funny that he chose the name from a hat haha.
yeah Rich is great and such a nice guy! And yes, that story about the name, I was not expecting that haha
I agree with you. It's a unique way to find names for songs. It now answers my question why I never found a music video featuring perhaps Richard's top 7 favorite cities. That's where I thought maybe he came up with the name. lol
Love to hear Rich is a big Pet Shop Boys fan! would love to see a collaboration or some SolarStone mixes of PSB classics!
"You should be proud of what makes you feel good." That's the damn truth. It's also why trance is timeless. Thanks for this. I love his take on ghost producing as well, and couldn't agree more. As a budding producer I still haven't gotten what I want, but I could never hand that vision over to someone else then take credit for it. What an amazing interview. I've learned more in five interviews than with any production masterclass. Because these answered questions confirm my own intuition about the process. Thanks Twan!
The vocal mix is gold
Rich Mowatt is a pure artist. He has strong opinions because he cares about the trance scene. His tracks (lots of classics), his PureNrg project (with G.O.) and is compilations are great. Now I want an interview with Tapio, because Orkidea is such a legend too! Great video, Twann!
Thank you! I hope I can do one with Tapio in the near future as well :) Cheers, Twan
The 2012 bit I totally get. Most trance I listen to is from mid 00's to about 12. Most trance after that comes mainly via what Solarstone plays on Pure Trance Radio.
I have huge respect for Rich. There's a memory i have from Blackpool in 2008 he was playing at The Syndicate, and his set was brilliant, he played a remix of Seven Cities i still don't know what it is! And like a true enthusiast of trance that he is, and deffo not an untouchable arsehole like some "BIG" djs, after his set and Aly&Fila came on after him, he just came into the crowd to enjoy their set like the rest of us! I follow his Pure Trance movement. And he along with Aly & Fila are my main sources of trance today since my original favs Above & Beyond and Armin sold out!
Rich is great! I really hope I can do another interview with him in the near future.
One of a finest
trance DJ the
best in the world
Rich Mowatt is a fine guy. I felt in love with the Stowers & Bostock Remix
Waking up with a chord progression or melody in your head is such an exciting feeling. You need a voice recorder by your bed to whistle or sing into, otherwise the music is lost in the other dimension once your brain chemistry has normalised. Then you can decide if it's shit, a carbon copy of an existing melody, or rarely, just might work.
A true epic, close your eyes and lose yourself Trance classic. This sounds good no matter what year I play it. oooo-sahhh :)
Seven Cities is a beautifully written track. It has so much feeling and emotion. The first time I heard it I thought “wow”. I have also heard a classical take of the track, performed by a group called Lowland. What they did to this track was so beautiful. It’s worth a listen 🎧
Absolutely unique power trance emotional track.
So glad for Rich sticking to Trance! Man lifesaver! Definitely proud of Trance Music!
Rich seems to be a man who just loves to make music and has a positive attitude in general.
Once again i didn't know the people/person behind the artist but now i do.
It's satisfying to see the face behind those .mp3 files that are residing on my storage devices. I'll mark november 9th on my calendar.
The ambient version is lovely
solarstone is a legend
What a tune ! It’s pure happiness when I listen this one , sunny blue skies .
The scene back then (circa the inception of Pure Trance) was a blur of Skrillex, Zedd, Avicii, and the like; it was very trendy, hedonic, and shallow. It all proved a flash in the pan next to Pure Trance.
Many years ago I had a plaisure and priviledge to meet and talk with Rich. Amazing guy, really love so much Trance and really care about the seen and the music. Forget about all the bullshit about what is fashionable or not. Trance is music with feelings!!!!!!! Viva la Trance!
Well said!!
Rich Thanks for considering our love of Pure Trance. I can’t get enough of your radio show. It’s always a journey.
Meet tons of friendly people. TranceDNA will be behind you always.
I’m proud to be a trance fan.
Aww those extra notes that Rich talks about are one of my favourite bits of the song!!! I want this track played at my wedding and the chilled version played at my funeral, its literally been my favorite trance track since I first heard it
Oh wow, how cool is that! Hope you enjoyed the interview!
Zenergy yeah you agree i love the extra notes. You should listen to the Andy Blue remix, the extra notes are so emotional
V-One's, Thomas Datt, Almar and Pure Mixes
Masterpiece track.
Solarstones Day by day - Red Jerrys dub is epic.
Great interview!
Thank you very much!!
Solarstone is a GOAT
Fantastic interview!! Can't wait to get my signed cd of Pure Trance 7
Superb ! Good questions, Great track!. Many thanks.
Whole hearted respect for Rich.
He does the A&R (obviously amazing work there) and he also chooses the Font(s) himself!
Wow, just wow...
Love this ... Thank you Richard. Your Seven Cities got me through many things in my life.
Can't wait to watch this
I love what Solarstone is doing to trance. That's pure trance... period.
Solarstone, come to Melbourne please.
Seven Cites gets me every single time! #1 tune of all time for me, cool to hear the story. Another awesome video. Keep these going!!
Thanks Keith!
Great video, always nice to see Rich interviewed and hear his thoughts on the scene.
Thank you! Always good when someone is open out things and doesn't really care with others say / think ;-)
Oh, haha... In 3 days im going to get my vinyl copy of seven cities, yeah, i know im late in like 19 years, but back than, i had no money to purchase vinyls. Im glad im making my own closer for that music that is all of who i am, and my all and whole passion for life. Thank you rich!
Better late than never! ;-)
Such a beautiful song! I had to buy the vinyl, much love ♥️
We love you Richard and you are keeping my spirits up during this Coronavirus Episode!!! 🥰
Solarstone - Thank you, one of the best tracks I've heard in sometime. Amazing.
A true legend of the trance scene and I listen to his podcast religiously. Thank you for another wonderful addition to this great commemorative series of classic trance productions
One of my favorite Trance songs of all time!!
Wooooow 😮 My favourite Solarstone 😍🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌Thank you Muzikxpress 😍👍😁😇🙌🙌🙌🙌loveeeee... It! 💪👏👏👏👏
Richie, seven cities is THE best trance compilation for me personally. I listen to this whenever i go to an ancient archaeological site, it makes me transmigrated to another era altogether! Powerful composition!!
amazing!
Twan, your vlog is another way I learn a bit more about the music and the artists I enjoy. It sounds so obvious, but before this interview, I only knew the tracks I liked by Solaratone. Now I know Rich a bit more and I listen to his podcast regularly and recently bought his three disk album Pure Trance 7. Thank you for the passion you put into the great work you do!
There's only two words for this man!..EPIC GENIUS!!
Good interview!! I enjoyed that alot. Rich, you found the formula, we really needed pure trance. You know? I thought i were one of very few that felt that. Good to know im nit alone.
Glad you like it Victor!
Pure trance is hard to come by and I don't know any other place besides the Pure Trance still releasing new tracks today. Thank you for being true to your craft and following your heart not the money.
My favorite interview so far, right next to the Thrillseekers one. Great job. It's always a pleasure to listen to Rich talk. He is eloquent in his talk. He has a cool personality. I can't wait to find out about his collabs.
Thanks Hersh, glad you enjoy the vlogs! I'm always happy when the person I talk to gives detailed answers and tells stories we never heard / knew before. Like in this one, how they came up with the title haha!
Amazing track. Many a set has been ended with this. Leave the masses with a smile on their face.
One of the gods
thanks for doing these interviews!
Thank you for your comment! More soon ;-)
Thank You for this Great interview !!! :)
Thanks a lot!! :)
Back in the late 90's early 00's a nation was built not from brick but from passion and love, this nation was the trance nation and it is about to rise again, this interview is inspiring and Solarstone speaks the truth, today's trance music has become disjointed and needs to become one genre again.
Class guy. Honest, open and talented. Always true to the sound, great interview.
Thank you! And I agree, hope to do another interview with him in the near future!
Great interview, keep it up!
great interview!
Interviews like this remind me of how much I love music. Rich is very passionate.
Rich is great! I hope to sit down with him again in the future to talk about another Solarstone classic!
Amazing interview!
Thanks Michael!
Shield part 2 is an amazing work of art. Keep the trance alive rich
I can remember vividly where i was the first time i heard this tune. Rock on .
Best dj ever
You listen speaking Rich, and you konw immediately what the true artist he is. Thanks for keep real trance alive ! The trance that is made with emotions, with heart.
Rich is a great talent, plus a funny and humble guy as well!
Very nice interview, really enjoyed it, bedankt Twan!!
Thank you too, glad you enjoyed it!
Top man Rich
Great interview, Twan!
Thanks Bhavesh!!
Great interview. Thanks :)
Thanks Kim!
so emotional, i used to get lost in this track. viva 99
Great interview, PSB's for me were another step forward towards the dance music genre(s).
There is definitely building blocks of electronic music (past) that moved artists towards Dance music and it is great to know who inspired them.
Thanks.
Yes! Big fan of the Pet Shop Boys myself as well. I once went to a show of them in London with Rich actually haha
Late to the game, but what a GREAT channel! Kudos, dude.
Thank you so much!!
What an absolute hero. I just wish there was a vinyl issue of Pure Trance 7 like with the sixth. Instant purchase.
Maybe they will still do that, who knows! ;-)
Tof interview. Rich lijkt mij een eerlijke gast die echt puur voor de muziek gaat. Pure dus 👌
Dank je! En ja Rich is top! Hopelijk kan ik nog een keer een interview met hem doen in de nabije toekomst! :)
Yet another episode! Thanks! :)
Hope you enjoyed it!

What a ledge. Period.
Another great video 👍
Thank you!!
Chicane interview coming up in the next weeks ;-)

Same! Would love to do another interview with him one day!
Trance 4ever!
What a great interview with Rich. Seven Cities is my favourite EVER trance track. The pure mix is awesome. Factor B has just released a Highlandr remix of it too which is also awesome. Rich knows how much I adore this tune and much of his music. He truly is an amazing producer.
No funny story about this track from me. I was actually surprised how they created the title. I had assumed it had something to do with an Asian tour of 'seven cities.' I had no idea they just pulled two words out of a bag!! 🤣 That's hilarious!
Haha I loved the story behind the track title as well, I definitely did not see that coming 😂
Amazing! Always noticed the similarities between Seven Cities and Mysteryland. Love the fact that the lead sound from the track was a "crappy guitar sample".
He is our hero :)
