Peter Luts is a DJ and producer from Belgium who is responsible for a massive amount of releases. During the years he produced tracks under his own name Peter Luts, but he was also involved with tracks under names such as Astroline, Groovewatchers, AnnaGrace, Ian van Dahl and of course Lasgo.
In the year 2001 Peter teamed up with producer David Vervoort a.k.a. Dave McCullen and singer Evi Goffin for a new project, which they called Lasgo. The result of their first collaboration was the track “Something”, which became a massive hit!
Because of the 20th anniversary of “Something”, I made a visit to Belgium, to sit down with Peter Luts in his beautiful new studio, to ask him about the story behind “Something” and more!
Will there be new Lasgo material soon? Is there going to be a Lasgo reunion in the near future? And ... at which special location were the lyrics for "Something" written? Check it out here, in the very first video interview in the brand new studio of Peter Luts!
Enjoy and thanks for watching!

What is your favorite track by Lasgo?
Surrender.
Something & Alone :)
@@espi8997 I agree
Hard to say, i like all the Lasgo classics.
Nice sound, and I had great times with them, nice people when they played at the discotheque (Peppermill) i worked. Lasgo and Milk inc where my favourite artist to have as guest.
Jesus... so many. But if I *had* to choose one, it would be 'Heaven' off the first album Some Things. That synth riff mix with those vocals! Divine.
Great story. This song will never gets too old.
It was such a huge hit, one of my first electronic tunes I heard as a kid
Still love it a lot
Something was my gateway into Vocal Trance music way back when, still listen sometimes even today :).
Its 2023 and I still love this track ❤️ so much memories 💔😢
The area where Peter lives is a gold mine for dance music producers holy shit!
I know right? Looks like I need to visit that area once or twice again next year for some more interviews! ;-) Fingers crossed!
Great interview. Peter seems such a nice and humble person. I'm Brazilian and I attended a Lasgo show in Campinas (São Paulo) - they are big here still now. Good music is immortal. Greetings from Brazil
This is amazing. Let the eurodance keep pumping
This was one of the tracks that got me hooked into dance music. This and Surrender still hold a special place in my heart.
Hey hey, Ron here (Driftwood). great to see you doing well Peter. Cheers!
We did mention the Driftwood Remix of "Pray" after the interview, true story! Hope to see you soon Ron! (And I hope you'll enjoy the interview with Peter of course!)
Hey Ron, thanks !! Still love the remix you guys did back in the days ;-)
@@peterlutsOFFICIAL Thanks you so much, it was an honor :)
Wow! Driftwood! Loved Freeloader (CD single with even a LASGO remix on it) and even bought the MP3
@@wannabeactuary01 Thank you!
I hear it all the time. Classic

Greetings of BRAZIL 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷😍😍😍
one of the greatest trance songs of all time
This track made my middle school unforgettable, thank you so much for this job you do, all these interviews are very inspiring and those stories behind the decks are pure gold for classic trance listeners. 👋🏼🇲🇽
Thank you, always happy to read when people enjoy the interviews! It is a lot of work, but feedback like this is always great to read, thank you!
Really great memories on Lasgo Something. Everytime i hear that song it reminds me of a fantastic time of clubbing.
Omg was so happy when I saw this pop up on my feed!
One of the greatest songs ever!
When it first played on radio,i was blown away by the style (im in Canada and the closest we had here was Sylver) and there was no shazam,so we didn’t know the title or artist,we just called it “hold me in your arms“ by “Last-Go“!! 😂 and just begged a dj would play it again!
Thank you for this interview! I was a big fan of Lasgo “Something” still listen to this song
Tara Lowe-Be with you,another great Luts/Vervoort production👍🏻
One of the very few tracks from that year that I actually loved (and bought on CD). Good to see a proper interview with you, Peter. Keep it up. Try and get Evy to sing for you again, her somewhat nasal voice was/is a huge part of the appeal.
Brasil aqui
Sim, LASGO é popular ainda por aqui
I still listen to something on allmost a daily basis, I first heard it on a wigan pier cd ( A nightclub that was the home to bouncy house/euro trance style music in northwest England) when i was around 13/14, I'm 34 now, The beat & build up + the vocals of Evi Goffin make it timeless & reminds me of my teen years 💊
What a positiv guy!I was child when the tracks was released and I still remember that "something" was also big hit in Poland.
Go Peter! 🔥
Thanks for this, this song brings me back to the summer of my life in Ibiza!!
Great job again Twan! I've been playing that song for years and it's great to learn about the back story of it. I still use it in my live streams and classic trance radio show, Global Trance Session. Lasgo also had other great dance songs as well.
Very nice interview. Peter Luts seems to be a nice pleasant guy. Something will always be a vocal dance/trance classics from my youth. I was listening to Sylver, Kate Ryan and Ian van Dahl around 2001-02. Besides the Italo dance and of course a lot of German Dance Music. Still like quite a lot of it today. Then I discovered Trance & Progressive around 2005 or 2007. Very nice trip down memory lane. 😊
Brazil here
I really really really miss this era of vocal trance. It was a moment in time. EDM today is just all the same sound.
Timeless tune, thank you!
My very favourite early 2000s producer. Thank you for this ♥
As a Glaswegian it made me happy to hear that's how they got the name Lasgo.
Pretty cool story right?? Haha
@@muzikxpress this track is absolutely loved here so can't wait to tell people the lyrics were wrote on the toilet lol.
@@daviebhoy6794 best story of the interview 😂
@@muzikxpress definitely. It's actually made me love the track more lol
Same here haha, never knew that. Back in the Destiny days this track was huge.
Great interviews!!!!
Thanx Man 💗💗💗💗💗💗
Another great vlog....damn the Corona , I can't go to Belgium fir the foreseeable future either ..😭
12:07 - Producers neighborhood, hahaha.
Great interview, looks a nice guy Peter.
Awesome interview. Lasgo was part of my teenage. I still listen their songs. My favorite is "Follow You"
Greetings from Brazil
I miss these commercial Trance tracks
Another great interview, Twan! Peter seems like a proper decent guy.
Awesome interview, this track also with two pvd tracks (Tell me why and Columbia) got me into dance music, i found them on a cd called Eurodance 2002 when i was 12 years old and i fall in love on those sounds; it is great to listen this interview for a track that got me into this music.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the interview!!!
He had me at "Yazoo " wasn't a fan of lasgo at the time but learned to appreciate that project in how clubs go nuts for the music. Another great vlog Twan nice one
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!!
Another great interview - even better when I know the tunes!
Thanks so much! I wanted to do an interview with Peter about "Something" for a long time already, glad we could finally make it happen!
This track was and still Amazing
OMG, wowwwww!!!!!!! yess
Heart this track for the first time in Spain 2002 at a small discoteque. It was a " wow" moment. Still love this track !
Great interview Twann. Peter Luts seems a great guy! My favourite production from him is without a doubt Abnea - Velvet Moods along with Johan Gielen. I feel goosebumps everytime I listened to it.
Yes! Great production from Peter!
I love the Tiesto remix
This track is pure childhood thank you so much for this curiosity history, Greetings from Colombia I love your content bro
Thank you so much!
"Hold me in your arms and never let me go" lyrics wrote on toilet 😂😂 Great track!
Great! Thanks to make that kind of interesting interviews about the dance music gems! Keep going! ;)
And thank you too!!!!
They were brilliant: high tempo simple but melodic atmospheric techno
Ok Peter, here are the lyrics! *handing a roll of toiletpaper* Great anecdote!
😂😂😂
Awesome. Thank you!
Awesome interview ! In my part of Canada Alone was the track the filled up the dancefloor ! That drum at the beginning of the song was just killer ! I still rock that song in my minivan today with my kids and they love it also ! 😀
I m so hyped for the 20 years version of Something!
Thx for that interview.
Still a big fan from the beginning. Love all their songs until now. greetz from germany

Bij deze bedankt!
great interview with our icon Peter! and yes, Lasgo still have massive fanbase here in Brazil! 🇧🇷❤️
Peter showed me some videos of gigs in Brazil, massive! Glad you enjoyed the interview Felipe, thank you!
Perfect. Thanks for this video!
Another great Vlog mate! 'Something' came out around the time I started clubbing so it holds a special place in my heart. Love it ❤
Top aflevering weer! Ik draai Lasgo - Something nog steeds wel eens.
That was a great intervieuw again Twan. And you were sharp when he talked about writing the lyrics in the bathroom. That was a good one :-)
Haha thank you!
I like what he said he don't wanna mess up the tune he's right doh it's a classic n should leave it at that 100%
Fantastic work again Twan. Excellent interview!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow amazing! If I only knew who was behind these great tunes back in the day. At least now my artist lists in my streaming platforms are growing with quality producers. Thanks Twan.
Richard
Thank you Richard!!
Awesome interview!
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this. One of my all time favourites ❤️❤️❤️
And thank you too, glad you enjoyed it!
the best!
Great interview and Peter is clearly a nice Guy!
Their music has had a great influence on what I do today. The "something" sounds still move me today.
I personally recreated these sounds for the Ti Virus several times. Awesome stuff ! Warm regards
One of my favourite tracks ever great interview 👏🏻👍🏻

What a legend! Huge respect for him (& this channel, amazing content)
Thank you!!
Que gusto saber de alguien tán talentoso, lo recuerdo en los videos de LASGO, y la nostalgia no se hace esperar.
I hope you enjoyed the interview! :)
Yeah ! Welcome back ! Thank you for helping us learning the history of 90's & 00's hits ! Keep on !
Thank you! More to come!
Great memories of so many of those tracks. I remember IVD also made some less commercial trance tunes as well. The remix of Oxygen - Am I on your mind was brilliant.
Another fantastic interview Twan!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks a lot!
Great video, what an amazing track!
Thanks so much Simon!
Great interview, it’s so interesting to hear the history behind these tracks. Seeing the old photo of him in the studio brings back memories, I couldn’t afford hardware at the time and it was the beginning of VSTs and it was a very exciting time! Thank you for another amazing video
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed the interview! :)
Wish he would make euro trance again instead of house. He truly was a god
Brilliant mate! Big track here in the UK that
I know why there where alot of Belgium producers where so good in these days (around an area)
Because of the Clubs in Belgium!
The music that was played in some clubs was such a high level of quality.
Good one! That must have been one of the reasons for sure!
@@muzikxpress And also the radio stations from Belgium back in the days! like C-dance, Topradio, Radio Atlantis Antwerp, RGR, Channel X had influence to everyone.
Belgium was the place to be in that period!
Definitely something in the air in Belgium back then.
Nice one Twan! Still a cool track. One of the biggest "2000's eurodance" classics.
Thank you! And for sure, plus still a great track!
haha..I'm originally from the Bronx, and I had the ASR-10 workstation, nice studioi and intervierw boss!
Australia loves lasgo
I'd love one of these videos with Scooter... Keep up the series, it's awesome!
I would love that as well, however, the last 2 times they were in The Netherlands I did send an interview request and nobody replied :( So I want to do it, but if nobody gets back to me I'm afraid it is not going to happen..... And thank you! New interview are in the works, stay tuned!
@@muzikxpress Yeah, they're quite busy, touring a lot. But this series is about older tracks, so maybe it would also work with contacting some of the previous members? Rick, Ferris, Alex, Jay Frog... Of course H.P is the prominent figure there, but still. Enjoying the series, I've got lots of episodes to watch too!
@@MichaelLoda The "problem" with that is that they all live far and that I don't have a travel budget for these vlogs. So I can only do interviews with people that live nearby (I live in the south of The Netherlands) or with people that visit The Netherlands. Hopefully I have more luck next time Scooter does visit The Netherlands, fingers crossed!
@@muzikxpress Oh I see. Good luck!
@prekbj you suck, they’re the best. They steal and improve, create something new out of it
Great interview as always! If you want to hear an upgraded version, listen to Alex Megane-Something (Accuface 2001 reminisce mix) its pretty close to the original ,)
That was a great time with Lasgo and Ian Van Dahl back in those days. Something is a great track, but - to be honest - they had quite a few of them like Pray and Surrender which are also great. I didn't like the way they went when Jelle replaced Evi after two albums. Jelle has a great voice, but Evi's voice is kind of the soul of Lasgo. I think singers are kind of hard to replace when you look at those acts from Belgium. It was pretty similar with Annemie at Ian Van Dahl, Linda at Milk Inc. and Silvy at Sylver back in those days.
Btw. would be awesome if you could get Regi Penxten for an interview. That's absolutely missing. :)
Regi Penxten is on my wish list for sure, hopefully one day!
@@muzikxpress Regi Penxten someday please. One of the most influential trance producers ever, like Nico Parisi.
@@jonpeley see my reply above 😉
Amazing info! Thank you for doing this. Love your channel, have just subscribed.
Could you do a video on Sylver - "Turn the tide"? Also a huge classic song that sold millions and Sylver and Lasgo sound at the time had strong similarities.
Thanks a lot! And that one is on the long wish list, hopefully I can make that happen later this year if they are up for it! 😊
That's why I am here. The toilet story was funny. Twan's pun too. I didn't knew that who is he and the sam person behind Lasgo and Ian Van Dahl (too.) The band name is quirky too.
Haha that story was so good right? And he did some productions for Ian van Dahl, so he was involved in some of their tracks, but the main producers behind Ian van Dahl (who started the project) are Christophe Chantzis and Erik Vanspauwen. I hope to do an interview with those guys one day as well ("Castles In The Sky" of course!).
@@muzikxpress Good to know, thanks!
i'm waiting for that interview too!
Me too, hopefully they’re up for it!
Another great interview! I was wondering what the background track is, the one without vocals but with this distinctive sound also used in Nelly - Dilemma.. Anyone know?
Thank you! And that’s “Cloud Surfers”, taken from the first Lasgo album.
@@muzikxpress Awesome, thanks! 😃
Twan this is such a good interview, love to see this legned which is between my favorit producers of all time. Thank you very much for using your time and resources to bring us these fantastic interviews, i really appriciate it!
Thank you so much Morten, very happy about this one!
Great interview the toilet bit was funny lol 😂I had this on 12inch back in the day and used to mix it on my decks. Good times. Any chance you could do an interview with dj encore about I see right through to you 🙏
Thank you! And for now I don’t do requests since I have a very long wish list with names I want to interview still. Thanks for your understanding!
No worries i understand, it's just amazing to see the faces of all these amazing trance tunes and hear the stories behind them. Keep up the good work. 👌
@@trancemaster871 Thank you very much!
OK nice in the Future you wil start a band like Depeche Mode "I am putting myself forward as a candidate"
An interesting curiosity, the Synth Lead used in the intro of "Something" and other songs from Lasgo, came from Acess Virus and is named "Uck Muk RP", created by Rob Papen.
Ah that’s cool! Btw did you see my interview with Rob Papen? 😉
@@muzikxpress yes, fantastic interview !!
@@JeanCarlos-vj6vm Great! And thank you very much!
❤️❤️❤️🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
I love this song but I always wondered about the snare sound.
It was made with a Waldorf microwave and a gated reverb if I remember it right 😜
@@peterlutsOFFICIAL haha thanks for clearing that up!
I used to play loud music in the attic at my parents' house when i was 9-14 years old, as if i was going to be the next Tiësto in my personal disco.
This track was on repeat many times. Also... HAS IT BEEN 20 YEARS ALREADY? Can someone please slow down time?
En ik ben nog steeds van mening dat de interviews uitgebreider zouden kunnen zijn moest 't in het Nederlands gevoerd worden.
Time flies right?
Peter Luts is the man behind Lasgo, Ian Van Dahl, Sylver and Milk Inc, single handedly the father of eurotrance aka Belgian pop trance.
Peter is for sure the man behind Lasgo, but he wasn't involved in Milk Inc. and Sylver. The people behind Milk Inc. are / were Regi Penxten, Filip Vandueren and Ivo Donckers. Sylver is Wout van Dessel together with Silvy De Bie and John Miles Jr. The Ian van Dahl project was founded by Erik Vanspauwen who later teamed up with Christophe Chantzis. Peter did produce several tracks for Ian van Dahl (mainly for the second album), but I wouldn't really call him the main man behind the Ian van Dahl project.
There was a Trance Classics version of something released last year. But it vanished from Spotify quite quickly. Does anyone know why?
