Back in the year 1997 "Everytime" by Lustral came out. Lustral is a project from UK based duo Ricky Simmonds and Steve Jones, who also were responsible for other acts such as The Space Brothers, Chakra, Essence, Force Majeure, Ascension and many, many others.
The original version of "Everytime" is a breaks/house track, with beautiful vocals from the hands of singer / songwriter Tracy Lee Ackerman. During the years the track got remixed plenty of times, by people such as Nalin & Kane, Way Out West, Timo Maas, Red Jerry, Mike Koglin amongst others.
In this week's vlog you will see my interview with Ricky and Steve, where they will tell the story behind "Everytime". You will hear how they met Tracy, they tell more about the writing- and production process of the track, how difficult it was to find a label for it, why the track got re-released in 1999, the future plans of Lustral and more!

Great interview once again mate.
The Nalin & Kane Remix is certainly most popular (and it's brilliant), but personally if I had to choose just one.. it'd be the Mike Koglin Remix. I just feel more of a connection with it. It transports me right back to 1999 with those uplifting, euphoric sounds, and has one of the most emotional breakdowns I've heard. Reduced to tears many a time with it
Nalin & Kane and Original.
Also the banging modern Sneijder remix is quite good as well!
Katcha's 'Last Time' Remix
Almost every story about a Trance Classic has this part: " - Was it hard to get signed / to release? - Oh yeah, almost everyone said No and didnt like it, but then there was some luck with (person / label name) and it finally got signed". Just imagine HOW MANY potential classic tunes we've lost just because these tunes were not so lucky to get signed!
I know!!! Crazy right? I never forget that when Josh & Dave told me that there were no labels that wanted to have "As The Rush Comes".... insane!

I am still waiting for the answer to my question about the track Shine (the video called Shine (unreleased Paul Oakenfold mix)): I always wanted to know why officially released track was so edited? I can clearly hear cut at first seconds and at the last beat. Have it on vinyl!
In reality, Most producers used to Press White labels and send them out to DJs directly, several Tunes were signed because DJs were playing the white labels.
I'd do anything to be in Ibiza right now listening to this surrounded by people, eyes closed, hands in the air, lost in a whole other universe
It gave me goosebumps and almost put a tear in my eye when I first heard the Nalin and Kane remix I wish I could relive that moment again
Great interview - the Nalin & Kane / Mike Koglin remixes are what makes the track what it is today - two epic remixes.
The Nalin & Kane remix is one of my favourites.

Met Steve Jones on holiday round about 2001, he was just a top bloke, not big headed in the slightest. Futhermore I just cannot believe how good this channel is!
The Mike Koglin remix playing in the background was my intry into trance in 1999
I played almost entirely breaks in Florida in the 90s but I would often end sets w koglins version. Chills to this day
You still mixing these days? I was doing lots of house parties, 1998-2000. All the break DJs were solid back then!
@@jasonauric no. There is no demand for my style. Lol. I'm 44 now. I had a good run of 5 years with steady bookings across the state and a few residencies...can't seem to let go of the 2k vinyl records lol

Awesome interview once again. Like said when the Chakra interview came out I had no idea Ricky and Steve were Chakra, Lustral & Ascension among others! These guys are great.... and how the heck did all those A&R people hear Everytime and say no right away?
Thanks a lot!!! And yeah, those guys were busy right??? When I was in their studio I also found out more releases they did which I didn't know was them haha (Hi-Lux, an old project from Steve). And well, A&R people can be wrong sometimes.... Back in the day there was even an A&R guy who said "no" to The Beatles! #oops
I really wish we could get vinyl reissues of their 12" records and the album as well.

Thank you! And trust me, I would love that too ;-) However, I have no travel budget for these vlogs. Oliver lives in Frankfurt, Germany, so when I get enough donations, I can hopefully make this happen (If he's up for it of course!). And.... there's a lot of other very interesting people living in / near Frankfurt. So.... fingers crossed!
Can you imagine that 20 years back in the dayz,artists who made music,wasnt just a artists but you can compare them to artists who made music and real art together.They didnt had the tools back in the days and still they were able to make art what touches every individual person.It was the expression of their own personality what they showed out in music.
These days the moderm djs have so many tools,but non of the songs are special ore a piece of fine art.Its just temporary and not personal like the songs back in the days!

Thank you! I would love to do an interview with them one day, but as long as there are no DJ gigs happening here in The Netherlands (where I am based) I don't see it happen anytime soon. Fingers crossed though!

I just found out Tiësto played Kansai - Nitrogene (Original Mix) in his Innercity 2003 set. We always figured it was someone else's production. Was this an obscure CDR handed over to T. back in the day? or was it released as a white label vinyl as well? This is one of the greatest finds ever and a very obscure one, great great production. Shame it never got released!

Can't believe Am I On Your Mind by Oxygen didn't come up in this, their Lustral mix was a lovely deeper take on the trance-y original. I have the double vinyl promo pack as well as the cd single and a couple of cd promos too. Very classy track possibly top 3 of all Ricky and Stephen's choons. Well done for getting three parts with them, next one probably the best alias and most prolific 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Well, I can't really mention everything they did, they did sooooo much ;-) And yes, I can't wait to post the last interview with them, which is actually my favorite one! I think I saved the best for last hehe ;-)
@@muzikxpress Let's hope it's at least 15 minutes long!! On Everytime I was a bit too young to notice when it was released, the N+K mix was on the radio a lot afterwards and it's a decent mix but when the Oxygen track came out around 02/03 I picked it up the week it was released I think, but I thought the guys would have brought it up in conversation talking about the Lustral project here. Didn't realise at the time too that Oxygen/Lustral/Space Brothers were just the same producers lol

No, I was only in London for a few days and the day I did record this interview, I did 6 (!!!) in total; started with Adamski, then I did 2 with Darren Tate and after that I did 3 interviews with Steve & Ricky ;-) But.... never say never, maybe another time, these guys are awesome and I really enjoyed listening to their stories!

There was a video of Lustral Everytime on RUclips around 2008, a very solar and very beautiful video, unfortunately this video is gone, if anyone sees what I'm talking about,, let me know I'd really like to see this video again. 🙏💜
Surprising to hear that Hooj wasn't considered a major label. They released all the classics bitd.
The major labels around that time were Sony, BMG, EMI, Warner Music, Universal Music and PolyGram. Of course Hooj was a well known label in the dance industry, but it definitely wasn't a major label.

Does anyone know who made the version with they symphony playing at the beginning? It's on the "Deepest, Darkest Secrets" album but I've been unable to find a name attached to it.
I think that's their own version. The original version of "Everytime" starts with violins etc

I just recently came across your song just 2-3 months ago and the mix labelled “original” on US itunes store had a bit of a housey sound so I had to dig around and found the symphonic version on the “Deepest, Darkest” album. CORRECTION - Bewitched were not a British girlband . They were an Irish girlband . 2 members of the 4 piece band were sisters of Shane lynch , who himself was and still is a member of Irish boyband boyzone . Just thought I would clear that up .

BT lives in the USA and I live in The Netherlands. He was here for the Amsterdam Dance Event last month, but only for a very short amount of time. So there was only time for 1 interview (which I am still very happy about!!!). I would love to sit down with him for more interviews in the near future for sure! But FYI, it depends on a lot of things, but yes, I would love to talk with him about some other classics for sure! Fingers crossed ;-)
