    The issue with Slaanesh is that the Eldar were always able to be resurrected from the warp. So if an Eldar dies, he can come back. With the birth of Slaanesh, the Eldar cannot be resurrected. So before the Eldar were not afraid to die because they knew they would just come back, but now if they die they're souls will be consumed by Slaanesh.

    to explain soulstones: they don´t keep Slaanesh away. thy collect the soul of the eldar if he dies so that it won´t go to Slaanesh.
    they will then insert the stone into the "mainframe" of their Craftworlds whre they keep all the Soule of the fallen. then the stone can be reused as far as I know.
    they can use a Soulstone with a Soul to animate the Wraith constructs.

    Something to note here. Slaanesh doesn't kill the Eldar. Slaanesh CONSUMES them. As far as we know in 40k, they just cease to exist. In AoS they were able to be pulled out of Slaanesh's gullet, so potentially they're still alive maybe, but 40k and AoS do tend to have much different lore in regards to the chaos gods. So in 40k as far as we know, Slaanesh upon "birth" was so powerful in that moment that it was able to rip their souls from their bodies and just nom on them. Just feast. Not only did it eat the eldar, but ALSO their gods. It's unlikely being eaten by a hedonistic god is a very pleasant experience.
    An important note about Harlequins is, they go around to all of the eldar, Craftworlders and Deldar, and they make sure they remember whose fault it is that their species is suffering the way they are. Their whole troupe goes around and puts on a play basically criticising their species. It's great.

    • @jagnestormskull3178
      @jagnestormskull3178 Год назад +6

      The Harlequins also put on plays about ancient Eldar gods and heroes. They're not just professional shamers, they're also the keepers of the pre-Fall histories and myths.

    Personal opinion, the krorks were a huge threat to the aeldari. In trazyn's collection, there is a krork foot soldier, 12 metres/39 feet tall wearing power armour said by Trazyn to be more advanced than anything the space marines currently have. Additionally they knew logic, tactics and science back then. Theory that I support is aeldari backstabbed them to become the state they are today because during the enslaver outbreak from the warp, even though the aeldari shared the same creators, they didn't bring any of the krorks into the webway with them and started culling them once they devolved.

    • @colers2366
      @colers2366 3 года назад +28

      Quite; Mon'Keigh isn't the Aeldari word for "Human", but it can be more accurately described as "race of barbarians" and has been handed down generation by generation to whichever race the eldar like least that aren't the ork. The description of the original race to be given this name is, and I quote "The term is derived from the legendary cannibalistic misshapen monstrosities that invaded and subjugated ancient Aeldari lands until they were cleansed from the galaxy by the hero Elronhir.", which sure as shit sound a lot like Krork to me; which other species could subjugate the eldar despite being cannibalistic monstrosities (implying low levels of civilization cohesion and therefor intelligence)?
      And Elronhir may have found a way to trigger the "killswitch" of the Krork, triggering their devolution.

      I wouldn't say they're a "force of good" but more of a self aware parody of their own species. Each troupe of Harlequins can done 1 of three different angles: the good angle, with which yes they become a force of justice, kindness, etc, enbodying the positive traits; the evil angle, where they commit atrocities equal or worse than the Dark Eldars; and finally the balanced one, where it's more chaotic in general and might either shoot you on the face to end your misery or heal you if they found you with a life threatening wound. So yeah, not really a force of good as a whole, but they're not evil or morally grey like the other factions. They just follow their own agenda, which in theory is teabagging Slaneesh so hard it stops being a faction in Chaos, but who knows really

    My thoughts on the Fall of the Eldar, perhaps not strictly canon...
    Trillions of Eldar Psykers were influencing the warp, every day, dedicated to nothing but excess. Nothing was enough, they would never be satisfied, there was just a never-ending thirst for MORE.
    The Fall itself was just the moment that the Eldar, as a civilisation and species, became so DEDICATED to this concept of "excess" that they merged with the metaphysical concept of "excess", which we call Slaanesh.
    She-Who-Thirsts doesn't "eat" Eldar souls. She IS the collective soul of the Eldar civilization, which exists eternally in the warp as the platonic ideal of murderfucking.
    (That's also why Slaanesh presents as androgynous: Eldar are sexually dimorphic and since Slaanesh is made of Eldar, they are a fusion of souls with masculine traits and souls with feminine traits. The other Chaos Gods kinda just formed 'naturally' in the warp, so they're technically genderless as well but are perceived as masculine by most followers.)
    Any Eldar souls that exist are basically just wayward fragments of Slaanesh that haven't been assimilated into the immortal whole yet.

    One thing about the "Imperium could wipe out the Drukhari if they really wanted to" bit, the trouble with Commoragh is it's pretty much impossible for anyone that isn't a Dark Eldar to find, and even then it's a god damn near-infinite collection of pocket dimensions where the normal rules of the universe don't fully apply. Yeah they could level the place if they could even find it but the resources and manpower needed to do so would be so astronomical that it just wouldn't be worth it.

      That is not even half of one chapter and they royally destroyed a large chunk of Commoragh. It honestly would not be hard for several chapters at full strength to wipe that city out entirely.

      If you put several chapters in Commoragh, chances are they'll be playing a guessing game trying to figure out where the hell Commoragh is for a millennia, and for the record, most if not all of the drukhari are there, so they're fighting at about 850 to one. for every space marine, there's ~800 Drukhari. As for Khaine, while he wasn't destroyed and consumed, he can be considered dead in practice. There aren't any prophecy of him returning to power, or any groups collecting Avatars of Khaine trying to glue them back together into a full god. I think he's stopped existing as a god for good.

    Oh ; wasn’t there a time when the Golden Throne was having a malfunction, and of course everyone searched for someone who had the tech to repair it ; and the only ones who did were the Drukhari.
    So some Dark Eldars came in under heavy escort of Custodies and Mechanicus to repair it ; and they did. But the price they exacted was never disclosed.

    Adeptus ridiculous is definitely ridiculous, and therefore deserves top spot on my sub list. 100% worthy of the "I want all notifications" bell!
    Oh, and regarding the weird spelling of 'aeldari'. Being a British creation, games workshop took a lot of inspiration for names/words from 'olde worlde' sounding stuff from our own history. Just like a lot of imperial words are basically screwed up Latin, aeldari is basically how people would have spelt eldari before the English language was modernised and standardised. I think it has its origin in anglo-saxon language, where it was a translation of an original saxon rune, from before they arrived in England and merged with the native population. Games workshop being games workshop decided plain modern English wasn't cool enough, and through in a little theatrical throwback...because...

    Slaanessh only was able to kill and slurp up the souls of Aeldari that were close enough to the location now known as the eye of terror. Any Aeldari who dies has their soul captured by Slannessh. This is Slannessh having his/her pinkie finger in all Aeldari souls.
    Unless you have a soulstone. As long as you don't die, you can live without a soulstone. You don't automatically die if you drop the marble. If you die with a soulstone, your soul goes into the soulstone

  • @RelativelyBest
    @RelativelyBest 2 года назад +4

    On the spelling of Aeldari, this is probably mostly for the sake of legally distinguishing them from Tolkien's Eldar. But also, it emulates the letter Æ, as in "Æsir," suggesting a diphthong (a "gliding vowel.")
    This indicates that you are supposed to pronounce it as "Ell-dari" (like the letter L) or "Al-dari" (like the name) as opposed to "Eel-dari" or "All-dari."
    Now, most modern English speakers would pronounce Eldar like that anyway, but it's useful in languages where A and E don't share very similar sounds. Plus it makes the word look old-timey and fancy.

    Adding an A to Eldar was a way to to bastard-latinize the word (in order to copyright it). "AE" in front of a consonant is pronounced like "É", basically the pronounciation of the word is the same as Éldar, they mostly just added a superfluous letter to it.
    It's not GW's or the brits' fault if you have a Warhammer podcast but still remain ignorant of Latin and its alphabet. This change is inspired from Latin, not british English.

    The Aeldari's depravity was probably a big contributing factor in preventing a large-scale power struggle between them and Humanity during the Dark Age of Technology, keeping them occupied with internal (pun not intended) matters. Therefore, were they to have avoided that phase it is possible something could have sparked a galactic conflict between Humanity and the Aeldari, which would be M.A.D., causing an alternate Age of Strife and leaving the Galaxy with a similar lack of anything substantial to check the Orks, Tyranids and Necrons.

  • @HotPinkst17

    Slaanesh was inevitable! The Eldar were a catalyst. Khorne cast a shadow in the warp. Chaos is all things and the opposite of Khorne is one of them that could only gain power as reaction and resistance to Khorne developed. To give players agency in the game, what people do needs to matter. Living in a way, in universe, that feeds a particular chaos power better than another should correspond to a flux in the warp that swells a ruinous power, relative the others. Quantity and quality would matter to such blasphemous calculations.

    I think the core of the chaos gods is misunderstood for the most part. It seems to me Nurgel is fear in general, and fear of death in specific. Thus everything that invokes or is related to that has been absorbed under his banner. Khorne seems to be the fury and determination of survival, tooth and claw. Slaanesh is easy for everybody, hedonism. The desire to seek out sensations and wallow in them. And birdman is the mystery of the unknown and the change it brings. I see these as being their core aspects and they just ate up lesser ideas as the chance arose from the same general family of thought until they bloated into the twisted things they are now.

    • @metheiam5714
      @metheiam5714 2 года назад

      I think Khorne might be more about pride than survival. They refuse any magic to aid in their carnage (and to survive, wouldn't one use any trick available?), and i've also understood that Khorne and it's followers can often have a respect for skillful, honorable warriors. I think i've also heard in one lore video that chaplains may keep an eye out for space marines who get too obsessed about mastering their melee skills and becoming the best.
      I agree that Nurgle has a lot to do with fear. His followers gain a kind of immortality and be freed from pain (pain being the source of fear; emotional or physical), though in return they become like a parody of the life they wished to preserve.

    I mean in a way they were right. Slaanesh wasn't JUST murderfucked into existence. It was a species wide constant, many years spanning effort, of murderfucking, drugs, torture, and excess. Just take what the Dark Eldar do and instead of doing it because they have to, make that they do it because they want to. Slaanesh, in a way, represents the purest form of the Eldar in the height of their power.
