Aspect Warriors are those Craftworld Aeldari or Asuryani who specialise in certain aspects of combat during their time on the Path of the Warrior. The Asuryani are known to pursue any task they set out to do with an intensity that makes Human efforts pale in comparison.
When an Asuryani feels called to the Path of the Warrior, he or she will join an Aspect Shrine, a cult of warriors who train themselves to embody some aspect of the Aeldari War God Khaine or ancient Aeldari myths and legends.
All Asuryani craftworlds maintain at least some Aspect Shrines, although some, notably the Biel-Tan craftworld, have more than others and place a greater emphasis on the Path of the Warrior in their society.
Also forgetting that Maugen Ra went INTO the warp and PULLED HIS HOME PLANET BACK OUT. Further solidifying his badassery
A craftworld ship the size of a small planet, but yes
One thing I would say about the banshees is that it was recently stated they are not all female. The armor is all female-modeled but not all female.
This means that femboy eldar are cannon, and lots of autarchs canonically had a femboy phase.
@@variableaxis9652 eldar definitely mix and match gender stereotypes as they need to. It's not really a big deal for them
@@variableaxis9652 mmm yesss...but seriously you cannot approach gender with the Eldar like with Humans its completely different
@@Tearakan Slannesh approved
All banshees are seen as female and referred to being daughters of Morai-heg. I think of it this way - the aspect warriors taking a warrior persona that they can more easily cope with the mental stress without messing their own psyche too much. All banshees take a female persona by tradition.
Culturally, all banshees are seen as female. The... biological bits are a personal matter.
To add to Maugan-Ra's badassery, he has yet to reincarnate, he's still the same dude under the armor as he was when Altansar got eaten by the Eye of Terror.
And speaking of Craftworld Altansar, it's now back in realspace, courtesy of Maugan-Ra and his Dark Reapers going in and dragging it back out.
Oh shit I didn't know that about Maugan-Ra
Same with his brother Baharroth (yes, they're biological brothers, I don't remember if that was covered in the video).
What I’m learning from this vid is that the Eldar have some awesome and sick lore minutia, but the fandom is hard carrying the appreciation, because GW sure as hell won’t.
GW doesn't respect its customers.
Im hoping mid edition we get some kind of range refresh for the eldar. Cause if we think about it theyre the last faction that still uses absolutely ancient minis. Hell theres tons of datasheets for them that are still fully legal that dont have minis in production rn. I feel like the major releases were getting this edition are probably the second half of world eaters and votaan and maybe an eldar range refresh
Coming back to this after the absolute dominance of Elder in 10th is hilarious.
@@BeKindToBirds My comment aged about as well as a celibate Dark Eldar XD
Eldar unironically make better and more interesting and relatable protagonists than majority of SpEsh Mah”HRines.
"Sir, we got space elves."
Captain Kirk: "Relative of yours. Mr. Spock?"
Mr. Spock: "They are... very very distant cousins."
Doesn't matter. Kirk is still gonna bang them.
Romulans are not on speaking terms with the Eldar.
Eldar are in between the vulcans and the romulans
Spock "Actually they're adopted. We don't claim them."
Kirk "But you do claim the Romulans?"
Spock "I believe the human turn of phrase is 'they are cringe', Captain."
I actually do like the Romulans better.
You missed the Scorpion mandiblaster on their helmets. It blasts you at point blank with shredder slivers and then sends an electro shock through them, creating a pointblank plasma blast. They spit death from their face while they chop you to pieces
Really sad that they missed this when they were trying to figure out what the sting was for the Striking Scorpions.
They have Gundam head vulcans lol
The story of Asurmen is a bit more complicated. He was a normal eldar guy living his life on a remote crone world when the birth of Slaanesh happened. The planet happened to be right at the edge of newly formed Eye of Terror, so it was fucked-up but not completely engulfed by warp storms. He survived in this demon world for a while fighting like a madman until one day he found a small feral eldar girl (think Tarzan or Mowgli) that miraculously survived in this post-apocalyptic planet. After meeting this child that didn’t even knew how to speak and knew nothing about their civilization at all, Asurmen finally realized that their society was lost, took the kid with him, found other survivors and thought them how to fight and how to behave (created The Path), creating the other Pheonix Lords and taking the name Asurmen to honor the ancient ways of the Aeldari before the debauchery started.
Worth noting that the craftworlds *did* exist anyway, but they definitely wouldn't have made it to modern day without him
A OG who became a shining light and hope for the Eldear I see
Wasn't Jain Zar a gladitorial fighter before meeting Asurmen? It's been some years since I read her book.
@@XanothAvaeth I think you may be right. I’ve might have been mixed the two things.
And they name us monkeys....
Phoenix lords also have blessings from Asuryan, they're more than just really strong eldar
Could be wrong but the OG Phoenix Lords were legit Primarch tier
That's kinda weird, considering Asuryan is dead and they have founded literal cults of Khaine (the aspects shrines are shrines to Khaine's aspects). They should be the closest eldar to the spirit of the god of war.
@@boyanpenev9822 interesting. I wonder if a pheonix is the symbol of asuryan and khaines is the bloody handed.

I always did think the Tau are more like Chinese inspired faction while the eldar are the true weebs of space and now learning about them more I feel justified
Yeah it never made sense to me that Tau got known as the weeb faction. They're the closest thing to a real life, modern military, where the Eldar have multiple, LITERAL "paths of the blade."
The Tau are a mix of all the major eastern cultures. They have some Chinese, some Japanese, some Indian, etc
@@thewerdna no yeah I just mean the overall vibes even with the gundamish mechs I never really understood the whole “Tau are the weebs of 40k” cuz I always saw eldar more in that direction with how they look, name things and act
This is what you get for expecting 40k players to have an understanding of cultures that dont touch the atlantic ocean. Might as well just be anime land past india. I'm not even sure if they noticed that mechs have fallen out of style in anime.
@@PaxImbrium I think Tau are called weebs more in the sense that they heavily emulate a specific anime genre rather than traditional Japanese culture
The Path of the Artisan also includes actual handicrafts as I recall, after a few hundred years you too can weave the sickest wicker baskets!
Awesome wicker baskets would probably fall under the domain of the Path of the _Artist_ rather than the _Artisan,_ but who knows? You may be right. I suppose people who walk the Path of the Artist (like the main character of _Path of the Warrior,_ for the first couple of chapters) tend to try to make every work a great one.
The Eldar really suffer from only three problems.
One, old models. Really self evident, and the best explanation I can think of is that designing new molds is a load of work that might not pan out.
Two, not enough supplemental lore. There's a boat load of Marines and Guard books, but my guess is writing a Dying Race isn't as fun.
Three, smug elves. We are reaching smug levels that shouldn't be possible.
idk I think all the Aeldar books that I've read at least have been really fun. I think they just get pigeonholed into a more supportive role a lot of the time.
1) yeah it's pain. It's to the point where the old metal models aren't as easily available anymore either so resin is the only choice left for a lot of people. Pray for the wave 2 refresh in 2024.
2) seriously, for the longest time the only thing we ever did was lose. We'd only be in a story to lose in order to make someone else look better. Feels bad man.
3) look Mon'Keigh, it's far more than just a *sense* of superiority, and it isn't really a *complex* if you're actually superior now is it? 😤😤😤
@@PaxImbrium Look, don't get me wrong elgi, you guys definitely have some stuff to be proud of. Hell, I did Harlequins as a Kill Team years ago.
But Ancestors as my witness do I love to bully elves.
I mean, its made worse that the Ynnari trilogy was canned, even tho they were great books
Problem 1 seems easily fixable - write a new OP codex and have new refreshed models as well as new units, wait for people to buy new Eldar armies to crush in tournaments making the new mould price worth it, then nerf Eldar to hell once everything gets out of control.
I did say that this was the easy fix, not the ethical one.

Also the main character is one of the most important Thousand Sons characters giving lots of perspective on the fall of Propero.

Honestly the Aspect Warriors are such a great form of Specialty Units I kind of want to start Aeldari because of them, but it is the age of more than half of these AW that probably keep me from them.
Good news is that for several key ones like hawks, dragons and scorpions you can kitbash them pretty easily. But yeah sooo many are sooo old
AW?
Don't worry, GW will bother to update them within 40 years, if your lucky.
@@nonebusiness7723 Aspect Warriors
The new guardian kit is soooooo good for conversions. I've redone my scorpions and Fire Dragons with their bodies.
Just FYI - you can definitely get male howling banshees. In the same way that many of the other aspect shrines take on a male persona when fighting even though both male and female eldar can join, male eldar take on a female aspect of the banshees. The Howling banshee exarch model has both male and female head options, for example.
The Howling Banshees got their name from an eldar legend about the eldar crone goddess Of fate and prophecy Morai Heg wanted to access the secret knowledge hidden in her own blood so she sent her daughters called the howling banshees to nag the shit out of Khaine pissing him off so much he severed Morai Heg's hand with his sword and she gave her daughters to Khaine to become his servants and warrior maidens.
so how does this work? are male banshees cross-dressing?
@@lordilluminati5836 Sort of how drag queen takes on a female persona and will be referred to as "she" even if they aren't normally transgender. Aspect warriors disasociate from their selves that fight as an aspect warrior. A male Banshee is a woman while wearing the mask but a man outside it. Unless the become an exarch and fully taken over by the banshee in which case it is permanet and a Banshee exarch is always fundamentally a woman.
In the Path of the Eldar books buy Gav Thorpe, the Exarch armor thingy is explained reasonably clearly. The main character starts to become lost on the Path of the Warrior, Scorpion Aspect, and the Exarch of his shrine notices this and boots him out and gives him directions to a rival shrine of the same aspect that currently has no Exarch. He finds the shrine, goes in, puts on the armor and his spirit essence or soul or whatever is drained into the armor where all the previous owners reside as well. There are like dozen of them, and they bicker constantly about everything. I am uncertain if the dominant will changes from one situation to another on the basis of who's best at the current predicament, or if the original owner of the armor is the dominant one and receives council from the rest, but anyways, the main character gets sucked in and becomes side character. UNTIL...
Karandras gets stomped by a Dreadnought, our protagonist Exarch rushes to his body, puts on the Phoenix Lord armor, and what little is left of our main character is completely swamped (from story perspective, effectively killed) by thousands of voices of all the Exarch essences in that suit, memories of million years worth of ceaseless war and the überdominant will of OG Karandras. So that is how that works, thereabouts.
What interest me most, is that when the Exarch put on the Phoenix Lord suit, what happened to his own armor? Can souls be duplicated somehow, or was the armor wiped clean? Latter seems plausible, given how there are "thousands" of Eldar essences within Karandras armor, math is feasible only if Karandras is really shit at fighting, or if everytime he dies the next Exarch brings a merry band of murdering space elves with him. And the next poor bastard to put on the Exarchs armor is probably the new "original" owner for the suit.
Yeah they must all move to the Phoenix armour. You don't really divide or dilute an eldar soul.
To me when an Exarch wears a suit, that's the past Exarchs merging into that guy, and Pheonix Lords are that again in bigger scale.
I think the comparison was made to "a sky full of stars" in referring to the numerous souls within a Pheonix Lord.
Massive probs for Bricky's NL tank. I actually used an Eldar Succubus head as a part of the base of my Lucius kitbash (I just put it's weapons on a Chaos Lord, removed his hair and gave him some scars on his face). Plus Lucius having an Eldar head near his feet is lore accurate.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Jain Zarr spook or unnerve a Deathwatch space marine with just how damn fast she is?
If memory serves, the marine at first thought he was hearing rain on the roof. Turns out it was Jain Zarr running.
Yep. and the Howling Banshees are one of the few things to actually come close to unnerving or scaring Night Lords if my memory is correct. So Jain Zarr is a beast
Poor Shy i feel her Pain. 3 Minutes into the Episode and a New Topik for the Video when you are the only one who has to actually work for an Episode.

I actually love that Bricky used his Howling Banshees like that, that's so Night Lords.
He must get SO hyped when another player gets the reference.
A friend of mine described the Exarchs as respected, necessary, but not the heroes of the aeldari. For all of being mighty warriors and leaders, they've effectively failed in the purpose of the Path of the Warrior. A living warning and guide away from making those same mistakes.
Going into the Aspects really made me like aeldari, I hope they get some love from GW.

I collected eldar back in the 90s, it blows my mind that the minies that I got as a kid are still the exact same models Eldar players are expected to use now.
I'm not calling them Aeldari unless the models are newer than the name change.
Same base tank since 2nd ed, but more/different bitz. Same Warp Spiders since 2nd. The first plastic jet bike is kicking around as the Autarch's ride. Only now are we starting to see new casts of Pheonix Lords.
Meanwhile I think we are on the 4th or 5th version of the Dire Avengers since Rogue Trader when they first emerged as Eldar Warriors
Lol.
At least we have the Corsair Voidscarred now; the box is honestly a great source of parts and how I started collecting Aeldari. It has enough Ranger Rifles to make an entire squad of Rangers, for example, despite that most of its units are the generic "sword and pistol" that you'd expect out of pirates, except that one that's sword and staff. Even one of the two psyker units is sword and pistol.
Thank you Bricky for making me a Craftworld fan
this was "amazing art, 20 years old model" episode, Imma cry
This was awesome, but you guys forgot the striking scorpions' mandiblasters! In melee range, they shoot needles into a target that get vaporized into plasma by a laser in their masks, causing the target a lot of painful, but nonlethal burns. It's like a high tech magical taser used by guys with chainsaw swords and knife guns

*Since we're taking about Aspect Warriors, this reminded me of a pretty funny post back in 2010 on the Wasted Knights blogspot:*
The Fire Dragon recruiting officer has the easiest job in the Craftworld.
Fire Dragon Exarch: "Hey, you wanna be a Fire Dragon?"
Hapless Eldar: "I don't know - I was thinking Dire Avenger..."
Fire Dragon Exarch: "What - the careful art of balanced attack and defense? Yeah, you could do it that way. Or you could just take this fucking meltagun and burn people down with one shot."
Hapless Eldar: "What kind of tactics do you use?"
Fire Dragon Exarch: "Every person around you also gets a meltagun."
Hapless Eldar: "Is the training hard?"
Fire Dragon Exarch: "Meltagun."
Hapless Eldar: "Right, sorry."
And that's really it. A Warrior Aspect built entirely around a gun. Swooping Hawks have to master the subtle art of flying. Howling Banshees practice endlessly with their elegant power swords. Even the Dark Reapers have to be good shots. Dragons just get vomited out of a Wave Serpent within 20 feet of the enemy and start pulling triggers. Fifteen seconds later, there's a burning Land Raider next to five dead Fire Dragons and a Space Marine desperately wondering what the hell just happened. The Autarch, a General of the Eldar people charged with overseeing this ancient civilization - this slowly dying race - sees this and thinks:
"Good trade."
Fucking Autarchs.
Artel W (a third party shop) got a great looking Fuegan proxy model.
Bricky: "A few days of research isn't gonna make me drop thousands into an army."
*looks at Bricky's Night Lord army that he droped thousands into after a few days of research.
*looks away.
Ironic that by following and perfecting paths, sometimes obsessively, they can more easier avoid falling to the chaos god of perfection and obsession
But they never do
Becoming an Aspect Warrior is still temporary as all paths, however becoming an Exarch is actually considered going down the road of damnation, though often more leaning into Khaine/Khorne if anything.
It's considered a necessary evil, though it's only undertaken by those who lose themselves to bloodshed.
@@CottonPanzer Yeah becoming an aspect warrior is more of anger management therapy compared to the whole 'Study the Blade' vibe of the Exarchs
It's like if you really wanted to play music, draw and write and you could choose between doing all three at omce and overwhelming yourself in just pire dopamine from all or just chopsing to plsy music for a gey years, then draw for a few years and finally do math for a few years. You are still kinda obsessing on something eitherway but one is like a third of the obsession the other would be.
Well not really, even dark eldar who have spent their lives in obsession have managed to pull themselves back from going too far. I think its more meant to be alluding to the idea that people shouldn't be like the dark eldar than falling to chaos.
one thing about eldar warlocks, they're something very specific among the path of the seer: They have already walked the path of the warrior and become a potent aspect warrior. They act as battle mages, but they're far from subpar in battle to be good at magic; They can throw hands with a full fledged space marine and probably win without psychic power. Hell, if I have them correct, they could probably throw hands with two or three full fledged space marines at once and probably win without psychic power, though they'd struggle against a captain.
Been waiting so long for this one!! Awesome to see you get into my fav Eldar units ^^
I will say Majorkill has a great Fuegan stand in and you can find nice Fire Dragon stand ins as well
Gonna recommend Fire Caste for book club. Not an audio book, but absolutely worth reading. One of the bleakest Imperial Guard books ever, and Peter Fehervari’s prose is a treat to read.
finally an Eldar episode were no ones rips on them lol
hell yeah! thank you guys for covering the aspect warriors, such a lovely part of the eldar that deserves the light of day
As an old school (2nd,3rd edition) Eldar Beil tan player, this episode made me so happy. The aspect warrior army was so fun to play back in the day.
This made me miss playing as a Swooping Hawk on Eternal Crusade. :(
I love Shinning Spears. They just look so cool and I love the idea of them.
I like how in that picture of the fire dragons phoenix lord the guys gun is like twice his size. I busted out laughing when I saw it and tbh I really wish there were more 40k models that comical.
If l remember correctly there was a story where banshees went up against a bunch of noise marines but instead of stunning them their screams just kinda turned them on even more what is kinda hillarious.
Phoenix lords are like daemon princes of Khaine. Every soul sacrificed to the armour resurrects the original wearer, creating a soul gestalt that slowly gets more powerful the more souls that merge with them.
And summoning the avatar of Khaine is a ritual Of daemonic posetion with an exarch offering his/her body and soul to be sacrified.
It is more that Exarch/Pheonix Lord armours have their own infinity circuit. Where other Eldar need their spirit stones to be taken to a craftworld circuit to be get their first chance at playing around in a Wraithbone body, the high end Aspect Warriors have all of the soul stuff taken care of locally, including soul transfer.
Two Eldar episodes in a row?! It's as if all my name-days have come at once! Can't wait for the Phoenix Lord episode(s)! Drastanta doesn't have much lore but what's there is sooo cool. And the badassery of Fuegan is insane (He's still alive, he's never died)
Striking Scorpions and Warp Spiders are my 2 favorite Eldar from the Craftworlds.
Eldar are great in lore they just don't have any good books on them sadly. We need a Necrons style good books but with Eldar.
Interesting little tidbit, the Striking Scorpions are the Eldar "equivalent" of Space Marines. They have heavier armor that allows them to stay in the thick of the fight better than the other aspect warriors.
I think they're where chainswords originated as well.
Warlocks are warriors who swapped paths to Seer. Farseers are "Seer Exarchs" and will eventually become part of the Infinity Network of a Craftworld
You don't train with a War Mask on; this is covered in _Path of the Warrior,_ because if you train with a War Mask on, you risk killing other Aspect Warriors while sparring.
If you like Fire Dragons, I highly recommend reading up on Autarch Mauryon of Biel Tan and the Baran War. He’s heavily influenced from his Fire Dragon days and is a total beast. He even carries an ork nob corpse on his own as a trophy at one point.
"While you where partying, I studied the blade"
unknown exarch
For me, the entire religious tone of the aspect warriors - them essentially being death cultists of Khaine and the phoenix lords being his sort-of living saints - was pretty dope, especially with how each one represents an aspect of Khaine as the god of war, murder and strife as seen by the eldar. I.e. The reapers represent the destroyer from the myth where Khaine defeats the Nightbringer but is tainted with a shard from his broken body, becoming almost a nihilistic form of destruction, while the banshees represent the spirits that follow him as the heralds of death and the avengers represent the protector and, well, avenger.
When I think of real-life inspiration, I think the Eldars take more after ancient Greece (I mean Exarchs and Archonts are ancient Greek words) and maybe a few other dead civilisations. Also they've got an "Aliens from the 50's-60's" vibe with their armors and vehicules that look more like toys than war machines with their slick design and flashy colors.
Fabius Bile novels are really good, the first one is Primogeniter
I'm reading through it and the last book isn't hitting me the same way the other two are.

They are on the path of command, completely separate to the path of the warrior. The phoenix lords are the pinnacle of the path of war
@@hippiecheapskate Not completely separate, one can only walk the Path of Command after walking and re-walking the Path of War many times.
@@AGrumpyPanda Exactly.
@@hippiecheapskate They literally have to go through several of the warrior paths to be able choose Path of the Command.
@@Vojevoda13 , they are separate paths. You can't be the pinnicle of a path when you're not even on that path.
Warlocks also have to walk the path of the warrior before becoming a warlock, that doesn't make them warrior path pinnacles either.
Almost every eldar has trod the path of the warrior previously, it's one of the most common paths. Having multiple trips along the warrior path under your belt isn't unique or even special for an Autarch.
what makes an autarch special is that their path of command trains them to perfect the art of strategic warfare, combining all elements of the eldar warmachine in one fluid whole. Their experience on the path of the warrior allows them to understand how the aspect works, but its purpose isn't to make them the best warriors. It's to give them the understanding to make them the best commanders.
Path of Command is entirely separate and a different focus than path of the warrior.
A phoenix lord is the ultimate pinnacle of the warrior path, having perfected their aspect to the exclusion of all else. They are walking embodiments of the eldar warrior path. An exarch is more of the pinnacle of the path of the warrior than an autarch, they are still on the path and live it every second of their life.
Most of the Eldar Aspect Warrior range is from 2nd or 3rd ed, especially the Phoenix Lords like Fuegan. It's held up really well in some cases but in other cases it's such a mess that it needs a complete overhaul like Jain Zar got.
The true tragedy of the Eldar is they have so many cool ideas and GW doesn't invest in keeping their sculpts current.

Now here's one iv been waiting for 💚
New to the channel but loving the videos! You guys are hilarious 😂
I just watched the craft world video and thought this was just a recommended next one just to see oh its the new episode
Ah so if we get bricky to read 3 eldar books he may get an eldar army.
Fortunately for him, Path of the Eldar starts with a book about the worst character it could have had, so he's safe there
Korlandril is an incel, he fucking sucks
Thirianna was alright, though.
"You wanna know what makes me even MORE upset?"
Me: "Pre-nerf Eldar fliers?"
Pretty dope but i'll wait for the new miniatures in order to even consider buying even a small army D:
not that we have the money man
let him dream my guy
I found Fuegan in an old model store, from 3rd edition i think. It's the oldest figure i have I didn't even know he was good. It has a special place in my heart even if it's stubby. I also think the color pattern in GW shop is not flattering.
These units are really in need of new models their lore is so cool
Mr Starlight and the Khan are for sure having the longest drag race through the Webway
I wonder how would a battle between howling banshees and noise marines would be.
Also a failing of the Eldar, with their hyper senses often affecting their physical health and mentality they can canonically die of cringe
This episode makes me wish GW would just bite the bullet and remake all the aspect warrior + exarch models in one fell swoop
The only bigger handicaps to GW than their greed are the Imperium (especially marine) focus and foolishness.
technically correct, the best way of being correct. you did it!
My favorite shrines are the dragon and the warp spiders… too bad both of those have awful minis currently!
I dont know if this little detail has changed or not, but I have heard the Bamshees are not exclusively female. Eldar Men can join Howling Banshee shrines, but they are few and far between and it's difficult to tell. Since even the male Banshees are required to wear the same armor as the female members, because of cultural tradition as the Aspects of the Banshee were gifted to Khaine by Morai Heg the Crone. So yeah imagine going up against a Howing Banshee only to find out that underneath the boob armor is a dude.
Not a terrible revelation, all things considered
not all that big of a deal tbh
This has been a thing since at least when Autarchs were introduced.
@fraenguardian1226 yeah I know. I'm just lamented at the missed opportunity that detail could have if presented to DK and he would have a moment to say 'femboy' Banshess and say 'make that into a poster'.
Im new to your channel but I love your content keep up he great work!!!
Craftworlds two weeks in a row? Be still my beating heart!
*Has folder of banshees
HELL YEAH BROOOTHERRRR
Demonstrating good taste as usual.
