Are Brake Rotors Bulletproof?

- In today's video we will see just how bulletproof brake rotors are. To do this, I will be using multiple different calibers starting extra small and moving up to some big boys. Pistols and shotgun were fired at 25 yards and the rifles were fired at 50 yards. Thanks for watching!
The tests are meant for educational and entertainment purposes only. Shooting steel (brake rotors) can be dangerous so do not try any of these tests at home!

Midway as sponsor is awesome. Congrats
Been changing break rotors constantly for years and each time I hold it I'm like "if I use the force of the Jedi with this, will I be able to deflect bullets and stop them like a actual Jedi but with a break rotor? "
Glad to see some of these gun stores giving back to us, thanks for the video!!
Definitely keep doing these tests. Also use some penetrator rounds next time. I've shot green tip at a rotor and it penetrated the front piece but not the back, similar to the 5.56 here. I will try to test some M855A1 and report back. Hopefully that rotor is still laying around at the range
You and I share a lot. I love plinking at random objects with my variety of cartridges. Been that way since I had my first .177 pellet rifle
Love your channel. You sound like my older brother with a deep voice. I always tell him to stop singing when a good song comes on. Keep up the great content 👏 👌
People try to get me to start singing when any country song comes on lol
i love midway usa and larry potterfield
I've hit similar size rotors with m855 and got complete penetraion. Awesome video, as always 👌.
That is interesting. I guess the core still had enough energy to go through the other wall
@Banana Ballistics yeah I believe that was the case. I don't believe they had much energy after that, but they did go through.
I shot some m855 through some rotors also but rotors that have been used longer are thinner because they're worn down and car rotors are thinner than truck rotors but I had the same results as you with m855 punch through both sides either way his video was awesome
Loved that great recoil bit. Great video!
Awesome video! Also really happy a great company like Midway sponsored you!
Awsome video figured 30-06 would have followed the 308 but I guess if you jump you are going for the sky. Thanks for the fun comparison
I figured I might as well lol
Ballistics won't drive me bananas, but those ammo prices sure do lol
Thanks for this video. Was with a group of dudes last night and we were discussing our theories regarding this very subject and I needed to know.
fuck yeah! science!
Awesome video man!
Love the channel!
We shot a brake rotor this summer with a 12 gauge slug. It barely dented it. Then we used .458 SOCOM and that blasted right through. Pretty impressive!
I have shot the same size brake rotor with my .270 win with a 130g SP at 3050fps out of a 24inch barrel and it went straight through as well.
Interesting to what these other calibers did.
Cool video. Thanks.
Your voice is the main driving factor watching this channel
You’re such a goof, love the channel. Nice to see it growing. Super happy for you to be a brand ambassador, too. Makes those $6.00 .338 pills go down (range) a little easier.
I love his unique humor as well. He's going to go far! 🎈🥳🎈
The gap between the rotor faces helps keep the projectile from breaking through
Seems like a lot of us have tried this now there's different thicknesses of brake rotors plus worn ones will be thinner truck ones are thicker to stsrt with but in my test rotors off a car the 5.56 green tip went through both sides surprisingly but 223 ammo only one side. as for 7.62x39 also through both sides and took chunk out of a cinder block. great video
338 Lapua now USD$9.80 per round in New Zealand. But damned fun to shoot.
So, to keep my comment short, im gonna TLDR it and just say that my LR-308 was stolen last month, so now I have a bunch of 308 ammo that I can not shoot.
I like your channel for a number of reasons, one being that its a "small" channel. Im gonna assume you dont have an ammo sponsor, so id be willing to donate some of my 308 if it would help out.
If ypure interested, let me know your email and ill get in contact about the grain and types i have. Most are FMJ but theres a bit of everything.
Have a good one, man.
Keep making genuinely entertaining content.
You should try 8x57
Nice video and greetings from Croatia
Cool video
Lol, never crossed my mind but good to know!
Mine neither until I pulled them off
Entertaining channel. Thank You! Have you ever done anything with Air G#%s?
Well hell yeah.
5.56 green tip would be interesting for this test.
Wow, love this any chance we can see some of the new PRC loads from Hornady in the future?
Possibly, looking to get into at least the 6.5 PRC in the future.
I've been blasting holes in brake rotors with fiocchi 62gr .223 fmjs from 80 yards.
A question I never knew I wanted the answer to so bad
Next try shooting at different types of rims, like the standard factory steel or aluminum, All the way up to magnesium.
Next time on Banana Ballistics... How to remove spall from your skin!
Probably should've used the shield for the slug
30-'06, 100 yards, 180gr. core-lot....In one side out the other like nothing. Shoot a battery with it..GO ahead. I did. The rotor came off my Chevy S-15 so you know how old I am.
miracle the ak was able to hit it at all !
but where is your shield for when you shot the shield and all the first shots?
Absolutely love your videos. Yet I feel you jumped over the 45acp and 6.5 creedmoor. Just saying. Also 5.56 green tip. Go Bananas
Definitely could’ve added those in there, I’ll try to spice it up for upcoming videos
I would like to see meat behind those kinds of targets to see what the damage will be once they pass thru. I'm always trying to find ideas to make my house safer in the coming Apocalypse. You know bullets will be flying when you don't expect it. And we have to sleep sometime.
Buckshot is more equivalent to 9 .22 lr bullets. If you’ve ever weighed a buckshot pellet it’s around 40 grains. it’s the mass x velocity that matters not the diameter
I don’t think that particular cast iron can dent. Shatter, yes.
You need to get a 416 Rigby!!!!! 😁😁😁
I've never even heard of that gun or bullet.
@@redfaux74 The 416 Rigby is one of those massive Dangerous Game Rifle cartridges. Something like 5000 ft-lbs of energy at the muzzle. Yeesh lol
@@TacticalTerry - I'd like to see one I guess. In action....
@@redfaux74 Ron Spoomer has a video, but it's mainly shooting at paper. Might be able to find a guntuber that has used it before on something like clay blocks
Hey lad when are you going to put a Weatherby 338-378 on that bench of yours and share that with your crowd
You should do voice overs or commercials.
Thank you broher cпасибо брат за отличную работу 7.62×54r vs 7.62×51 STEEL PLATE. ВСЕГО ХОРОШЕГО.👍👌💪❤
Have you checked his previous videos? I want to say he has tried those.
Good rust-removers.
lol omg I can smell this video
What about the inflated standard tire side wall compared to the tread? Maybe try a 45. acp lmao
Loving your content! I agree with your sponsor. Keep it the same.
You're growing fast. ❤️
I want to be your friend when the Zombie Apocalypse hits! 🎈🥳🎈
I appreciate it! If I miss the target to many more times I don't know that you'll want me on your team
@@bananaballistics - I guess you'll have to get a grenade launcher then. 🤣🤣🤣
Get 2 and we can use your metal working skills to mount one to our Zombie Apocalypse Doomsday Get Away Buggy. That would make a great video by the way. People love to see zombies explode in creative ways. I know I would watch it. 🎈🥳🎈
Keep up the great work brother.
Do you have any discount codes for Midway?
Unfortunately I don’t, but I will ask about it
When not using protection u would expect the whole to be clean
If a 338 did that to a rotor, imagine what would do to your back on its way out
Those rotors are worth more now that they are perforated !
Lol, no smoking!
Midway USA is an EXCELLENT company. Great prices, inventory, and they damn near ship your orders as soon as you click that "submit" button.
#Truth - Customer for more than 10 years and they have only gotten better.
Thank you Larry for price gouging, that’s the way it is
@@chuckfinley3152 huh?
270 win will go through it
I’m entertained
How about a .50 cal ?
Hallo from Türkiye
Pretty sure that 308 would have punched through if it wasn't for the web
#5 is Alive!
If you hang the rotor like a gong it'll take a lot more punishment
So apparently, brake rotors r half decent spaced armor for up to 308 rounds eyh? 😅
Where is the 300 win mag 😊
7.62x54r vs 30.06
Are rotors bulletproof? Answer: Well actually yes but technically no!
ruclips.net/video/bhnKikC0BQY/видео.html
What angle does 1/4 mild steel stop or deflect .308? green tip?
can 1/4 steel stop .308 at any angle?
Hank hill
Quit huffing sulfur hexafluoride.
I didn't think that anyone would catch on lol
😜😜😜😜🥴
not very.
Well said lol
There isn't much of anything that can withstand 308 or larger ammo.
But if you find it.... your subs will blow UP! 🤪
You need to stop closing your eyes and flinching 😂
Your probably thinking about what if some shrapnel makes it through that window 😮😂
375 small elephant gun? Back in the day, the most famous American hunters would drop elephant with a 270,and the same with brown bears. I know old timers around here would take elk in Colorado with a 222 Remington. The best all around hunting cartridges is 3006 and 284 Winchester and a 222 and it's all you need. Belted magnums are a waste of time.
It's pathetic to me that you didn't realize a 223 would rip right through compared to a 762. It's obvious to everyone who knows any thing about guns that's speed defeat body armour, and by the way that's not body armour.
Greetings from germany
That .22lr is closer to 70 ft/lbs
You are probably right, definitely not box velocity out of a handgun
For a brake rotor to stop a 308 thats impressive
