Lyrics:
Lord, it's the same old tune, fiddle and guitar
Where do we take it from here?
Rhinestone suits and new shiny cars
It's been the same way for years
We need to change
Somebody told me when I came to Nashville
"Son, you finally got it made
Old Hank made it here, we're all sure that you will"
But I don't think Hank done it this way, no
I don't think Hank done it this way, okay
Ten years on the road, making one night stands
Speeding my young life away
Tell me one more time just so's I'll understand
Are you sure Hank done it this way?
Did old Hank really do it this way?
Lord, I've seen the world with a five-piece band
Looking at the back side of me
Singing my songs and one of his now and then
But I don't think Hank done 'em this way, no
I don't think Hank done 'em this way
Take it home

When Johnny Cash is looking at you, and smiling in great admiration you know you are a legend. Such respect from all four to each other.
Best concert ever!!!!!
Waylon and Johnny are my two favorite country artist of all time. These Legends and their legacy will live on forever!
Yep got to throw hank Jr in that mix though
That is very touching, indeed.
The way Johnny Cash and then Kris Kristofferson looked at him before he started picking was awesome, Waylon was like 'check this shit out".....
Johnny and kris
I had a dream about Waylon last night. I was at a country music festival in 2019. And on stage, was Waylon, playing "Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way". Half of the audience had brought their guitar with them to play along with any song they knew. Then, like it had been planned on by the whole audience, everyone started to group up and sit in lines. I got up to join them, and before I could get in a line and sit in it, I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned around, and it was Waylon. He had offered to teach me a lesson, and of course, I said Yes. So we started to play. I remember it so vividly. I remember him placing my first finger on the 5th fret, 2nd string, 2nd finger 4th string 6th fret, and my 3rd finger on the 7th fret. He taught me how to play "Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way" like he did, but on HIS guitar. It's single-handedly, the BEST dream I have ever had. Maybe when I fall asleep tonight he'll teach me another lesson. Here's hoping!!!
Great comment 👍👌
Gave me chills.
Holy hell that has to be the coolest dream I have ever heard of
He came to visit you
But did he have a capo on it or was he playing on a drop D chord? Or open tuning?! I would have loved to learn more! That must have been SO cool! 🥰🥰
It raises the spirit to see the smile of Waylon and Johnny. RIP

That was bad as$ awesome.

Kris Kristofferson is playing with them to

I recently discovered Waylon Jennings and wow, oh wow, I have been missing out. This is pure talent right here.
People often miss out on this nowadays
This was when country went mainstream- no one was better than Waylon and Cash
Me too, I am beside myself.
Welcome!
Me as well, I was in high school when Buddy Holly was killed, but I was a Elvis fan at the time and missed a lot of Waylon until later. He is the man!!!
Who else is watching this thinking "what a treat it would have been to seen this live. The talent on those instruments!". If you are, we're vibing.
Right there with ya would have loved to see this
In about 1990 I was asked to do lighting and sound for Johnny Cash but because of a snow storm he cancelled the show. I did work for Carlene Carter, his step darter tho.
Right there with ya 👍
You read my mind Brothe
man this was a year before I was born lol, but I wish I could have seen this live it would've been awesome lol.
This looks like a 2020 recording, the camera, the sound, the singers, man! They were so talented
Only you wouldn’t get music like this in 2020
Yesss.....Some guys behind Waylon seem to me to get some good stuff....😉
Sometimes you can see sparkling typical for old movie, this video was remastered and recorded on high quality cameras.

The greatest picker that ever lived. I love the way John and Chris are watching in admiration. They know no one can do what Waylon does.
Amen brother
It takes a fairly great man to be accepted into the likes of Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson alone, and he wasn't invited into that, they started it for him knowing full well it was for him. Country music used to make a lot of sense, and then the 90's happened and I don't even know wtf this shit is we have today.
@@EpicAkensaiTruth. The "good" era of country music ended with these guys. In the 90s it became progressively less of an art form and more of a formulaic industry product. And nowadays you got only a select few of songs I can throw on without getting pissed off. Most of it is completely watered-down pop garbage sung by industry plants that wear country music like it's a costume.
@@torgejh9189 guys like colter wall and tyler childers are challenging this notion, but youre right that the golden days are over
Waylon was unreal there, wish I had a Time Machine to watch this concert, it looks like the best ever, love how happy they all look, fml I cannot go back
That real country music
My name is Aaron yes this what you call real county music the music thay play on country radio station sucks
What i don't understand why is thete so many people putting thumbs down on a lot of famous country legends of country music pissme of the one that do that don't no what country music is all about.same George Jones sings who going to fill there shoes nobody's is there to famous country singer who came out in the last i would say around 7 years is chris Stapleton and Jamie Johnson that have the real good country voice i 100 percent agree with you on your comment

You damned right it is, Hoss!
This is literally the greatest concert ever in history
Waylon was such an under rated guitar player, and that spontaneous skit at the end shows it, literally just went with the flow and busted out a 15-20 second legendary solo. Saw him live 4 times with my dad when I was growing up and they were all amazing. Waylon never let you down when he was on stage and always put on a show worthy of talking about it for weeks and months afterwards. Both he and my dad are somewhere up in heaven now jamming out and listening to this performance always takes me back to that time when I was little. RIP Hoss, we miss you
Great guitar yes underrated I don't know watch dukes of Hazzard everyone knew how good he was.
That is awesome mate, hes my favourite guitar plater and musician i have the replica guitar on my mantle
The highway men love the story his tells on Jones about having to tie him down
Love❤
Waylon is getting me into country
pupusa420 That’s wonderful. Any of the four masters up on the stage in this video have decades worth of classics that are well worth checking out, and can help introduce you to the best of what came before them.
@gus bus username checks out.
@gus bus username checks out again lol 😂
@gus bus just like gus in the movie lol the irony is uncanny
getting? do you bleed red?
It's fun to see them having fun.
To hey sure do ...dang I miss you gem two Waylon n Cash!
Amen !

Holy moly, it's my favorite airplane disaster video maker!
Hoss sure could make that Telecaster sing. Four great musicians on stage as well as great friends. I love Kris Kristofferson's reaction at the end.
thats why hes the HOSS he knows how to make that telecaster sing
Yes he was thrilled Love the whistle
When Johnny Cash smiles... lol. I love Kris, this what a stacked stage. Waylon is a badass like no other.
Kris’s reaction was pure GOLD !
Waylon could handle that telecaster damn well
Yes he sure could also his style he was a big guy and came in straight from the bottom at the strap post area very cool to watch.
His guitar playing seemed to get better over the years
@@ryanatkinson8067 Yep!
You don’t see Waylon like that too often, damn it was the best!
Nobody cooler with a better voice and rock and roll attitude than Waylon. RIP.
Well said...a rock n roll attitude. That gritty, hard country that means business. No leisure suits, rings, hair looking like a lady.
He had rattlesnake blood
everyone comments on Cash and Kris reaction to Waylon's picking at the end,but Reggie Young, among the greatest studio musicians ever,is standing behind with a huge grin on his face during Waylon's solo.Waylon was greatly underrated as a guitar player IMO
After for a second, you can see Mickey Raphael dancing to it.
This is one of those songs that you wish was 10 minutes longer.
Damn near brings a tear to my eye seein all these fellas playing together knowing we'll never see it again.
Are you sure?
@galewinds7696 yeah pretty sure. Cash is dead.

Willie, Johnny and Kris were really enjoying watching and hearing Waylon play that guitar. The admiration and respect for Waylon from these three giants of American music was clear to see in this video. These guys were having a TIME!
I saw him at the old Bottom Line in NY. Around this time, 1990. As usual, Robert Duvall was there. He's famous for being Waylon's biggest fan. That room could hold maybe 400. On stage he looked too big for a room that size. Not just because he was a tall man but mostly because he had such radiant charisma you could tell he belonged in front of a crowd of thousands. He did that show with a very stripped down band. No pedal steel. Young guys with a second guitar player and some background singers including one of his his daughters. He played through his custom amp set up- two identical plain wood cabinets split left - right for his stereo chorus sound. It was just incredible. He was in good shape. He'd been drug free for a few years at that point. He was solid as a rock. Jesse Colter did a few songs too. But it was all about Waylon. Bone chilling stuff. Like they say, bigger than life. I'm incredibly thankful I got to see him at that time. I will die with his voice ringing in my mind.
Imagine being there... many legends on one stage... rip Waylon and Jonny...
And Reggie White (lead guitarist here ) as well.
@@NJcruiser Reggie Young
@@rosemaryfoster1162 Thanks for the correction. You are correct. Great guitarist.
omg it would've been awesome lol.
The looks on Johnny n Kris' faces is pure magic n Waylon's guitar playing is awesome. N Willie is a legend.
I'm from Germany. These good old boys are my all-time heroes.
The Highwaymen... heroes of countrymusic!
Never happen again. Just plain sucks.
How you can create such a cool song out of 2 chords (E and B) is a tribute to just how great Waylon's talent was and is!!!! So cool to see all of them having such fun.
As people added more layers to what they were doing to music, multiple studio sessions and playing it over and over until you have 6 hours of a 5 minute song and getting every note perfect. Studio musicians with intricate solos. The more layers they added, the more Waylon would come in and strip it back down. All genres of music have a blueprint they follow for what works. (This is where boy bands, multiple Madonnas and whatever this bs "new country" is that we hear now. The more people tried to put Waylon in the cookie cutter-- the more he'd strip it back down. Just like here, that slide player is fantastic, perfect solo he's doing a great job Waylon hops in early (this is why it took a minute to get the spotlight back on him) no intricacies, no prevention, no stealing the spotlight, less than 10 notes-- it's magic, and even an untrained ear would go "that's Waylon", that telecaster sound, gentle picking, simple solo and he turns it into the most badass thing you ever heard.
I love everyone on this stage. The fact there were no egos here, and they pulled this tour off. There was NOTHING like outlaw country. But to me Waylon was the most special of them all. Which is saying alot because that stage is nothing but icons. What a gem we have this recorded.
He actually played it in C/F live😉
I'll take this real man anyday over anything current music dishes out.
I would spend money on this over world series tickets!
Four legends who will never be replaced.
I’m partial to the album version, but the highlight of this performance is Waylon entering a flow state at the final solo. He always did it his way and that’s what’s so special. Truly one of the greatest guitar legends and country artists of all time.
I love that riff at the end Waylon.
- No shortage of talent on thier stages.
- A guitar lesson for the masses.
Waylon’s guitar solo just funky
The way Waylon was looking at that Telecaster while playing is the same way a grandpa looks at an item from his youth while he's tinkering with it after so many years. It's precious. Almost like it's just him playing around, and everyone is loving the hell out of it.
Waylon done it his way , Those guys knew what music fans wanted
Good God, Waylon was a good looking man, his voice and charisma only improved with age. My favorite artist ever
There will never be another Waylon Jennings. He is one of a kind plays that guitar man love that guy. He was awesome.
Johnny and Kris are sharing their heads, because Waylon can play and they were in awe. Period.
Tribute to the late great Hank Williams... Legends singing about a legend.
The men had some good guitar players backing them in this concert with Reggie Young in the lead, but Waylon did a great solo of his own here.
Is that J.R. Cobb from The Atlanta Rhythm Section? He's wearing the red shirt.
@@fullthrottlejeffry I believe so
I have always loved Waylon. I had his greatest hits album and this song was on there. Wish he was still here.
Hello Karen how are you doing. Hope everything is well ❤️🩹😊
This is his best live performance of this song I have heard it really sounds awesome shame on the one that disliked this
This one and the version from 1978 at the grand ole Opry are my favorites
Those likes don't mean anything. Its easy to accidentally tap the downvote. It's really not worth getting upset over
It was great to see how John and Kris smiled when Waylon was pickin'.
Hank Williams really did raise a lot of great kids for Country music.
Never seen anything better than watching these four. Kris is the happiest. He knows he can't sing, but he's one of the best ever songwriters.
These guys are THE supergroup
When I was 19 I saw Waylon open for the Grateful Dead at Kezar Stadium, Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, 1973. Waylon blew me away. His performance was outstanding, much to my surprise. Grateful to have been there. Thank you, Bill Graham, for putting Waylon on that bill. How I wanted to see the Highwaymen live but concert was sold out.
Holy shit - that must’ve been one of the coolest events EVER
The admiration these guys showed each other on stage is just awesome! I so wish I could have seen them live. RIP Johnny and Waylon.
Waylon will forever be my favorite country artist. He just had such a unique voice, and sound.
Great to know you're right there with me.
He was mine too.
Saw him twice in Phoenix.
The solo at 1:50 is simple and beautiful!
Every song this ensemble covers becomes the gold standard, the amount of talent and skill is crazy
Waylon goes over to Chris and says I’ll finish this out with a solo and Johnny nods and Waylon lays it on them with some good riffs and some chicken picking to boot cracks them both up !! What a classic 👍😎
Kris Kristofferson's reacton at the end says it all.
thats HOSS showing how good he can handle that telecaster i do get how Kris is impress they all had huge respect for HOSS
Can't pass through Grand senora desert without this song
Masterpiece, better than the studio version
Love and miss all the outlaws who have gone to that great Opry in the sky.
1:50 just puts a smile on my face everytime!!
It's a fact that legends never die they will always live on in our hearts. Thank you Waylon for all of you're awesome music and I sure hope you're playing with Johnny Cash up there ❤❤

It's a bonified classic! 👍👍👍👍👍
Hank would be proud.
Absolutely one of the coolest human beings to ever exist!
I saw Willie at a concert in Latham NY (outside of Albany) maybe 25 years ago and it was a great concert. Almost at the end of the concert you could hear a tractor trailer noise which I did not think much about it since where the concert was the road is where a lot of tractor trailers used. Willie excused himself and walked off stage. He came back and announced that there was some one who did not have much experience who wanted to sing with Willie and ask if we minded and of course we said no. Waylon came out on stage and him and Willie sang some songs together. Waylon had a concert in Saratoga and traveled about 15 miles to see Willie. All I can say it was a great concert with Willie and Waylon making the whole night worth the price which was about $20 to see Willie in a large circus tent.
That was one very amazing band!!!!
The Memphis Boys !
This right here is what real music sounds like!
I'm 47 and been a mad keen Waylon fan since before I can remember.
GOAT
Glorious, brilliant song, fantastic musicians, majestic singer - just discovered Waylon and I love him, can't believe no one played me any of his songs before! This one is my favourite of his so far.
Waylon put a lil’ giddy-up in that solo! YEE-HAW!
How are you doing today
Having all those guys on the stage at the same time is unreal. They all have proved themselves individually and now, together, it is bigger than the sum of it's parts.
Look at Kris, he's having a blast, he knows that he's playing with legends. He's pretty awesome himself, but Waylon is a true legend
It is as if Kris is representing us all there and Johnny couldn’t have been having any better of a time, either. My favorite country song and then Rocky Top after that.
The best version of this song
One of the best live performances
Great sound quality
One of a kind
Legends
We will never be blessed again to see real men like this sing country. God doesn't make them anymore😢😢😢😢

Waylon looked so good , He had the talent , A great bunch of guys
WOW..love Waylon..he really smoked
What real music is about it hits you in the heart and soul
Best guitar solo in the whole of Country Music! Brilliant!
You got that right and dare I say one of the greatest guitar solos of all time. Van Halen, Bonomassa, Clapton et al could shred but no one can “chicken pick” like Hoss
Such an UNDERATED guitar player
That riff at the end 🤯
Wow could you imagine being in the audience and those four legends stage at same time incredible
This is my favorite performance of them. I wish they all sang it, but its fitting that just Waylon sings it. The fun they had on stage together warms the heart, seeing how most music artists only do it for money, these guys did it for the fans and for each other. My all time favorite band, The Highwaymen
Its truly amazing to be able to watch these legends play.
I recently discovered Waylon Jennings and wow, oh wow, I have been missing out. This is pure talent right he
The looks on Kristofferson and Cash are just priceless. 2:28 seconds of pure joy.
Waylon is arguably the best to do it.
It's literally a stage filled with legends.

Man, that is something we will never ever see again. Johnny Cash, Waylon, Christopherson, and who was on the slide guitar? Loved that group that collaborated on that album. Willie was part that group also, da? Loved that song and haven't heard it in 30 years. God I'm getting old.
never ever again will you ever see 4 artist this great together again
Sadly I think you’re right. Nashville won’t play them now anyway.
Incredible concert! Its almost like there was a friendly competitive spirit among them
This song so fucking rocks me, one time I played it 5 times in a damn row, and loved it each fucking time.
In this video Waylon looks like a true veteran singer and player . Probably had the video set up to put more colour and life into his song . After all he's playing a song about a veteran singer ole Hank.
I miss those days
