Lyrics:
The only two things in life that make it worth livin'
Is guitars that tune good and firm feelin' women
I don't need my name in the marquee lights
I got my song and I got you with me tonight
Maybe it's time we got back to the basics of love
Let's go to Luckenbach, Texas
With Waylon and Willie and the boys
This successful life we're livin'
Got us feuding like the Hatfields and McCoys
Between Hank Williams' pain songs and
Newbury's train songs and Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain
Out in Luckenbach, Texas ain't nobody feelin' no pain
So baby, let's sell your diamond ring
Buy some boots and faded jeans and go away
This coat and tie is choking me
In your high society you cry all day
We've been so busy keepin' up with the Jones
Four car garage and we're still building on
Maybe it's time we got back to the basics of love
Let's go to Luckenbach, Texas
With Waylon and Willie and the boys
This successful life we're livin' got us feudin'
Like the Hatfield and McCoys
Between Hank Williams' pain songs and
Newberry's train songs and Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain
Out in Luckenbach, Texas ain't nobody feelin' no pain
Let's go to Luckenbach, Texas
With Willie and Waylon and the boys
This successful life we're livin's got us feudin'
Like the Hatfield and McCoys
Between Hank Williams' pain songs
And Jerry Jeff's train songs and Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain
Out in Luckenbach, Texas there ain't nobody feelin' no pain

Waylon had one of the greatest voices. He could sing anything. Waylon could sing anyone's songs, but not everyone can sing his. One of the most iconic voices ever
I absolutely agree
Something I have been telling people for a very long time. You just can't "outsing" Waylon.
Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristofferson on stage together. Only on RUclips will the world see such talent again.
At least Not in our lifetime
Yes indeed. That goodness for RUclips that we can still enjoy the best ones.
Thank goodness
Ты чертовски прав!
@@RCAddictdez 7
Culturally significant. The future generations will thank you for putting this on RUclips.
looool
its just a bunch of white supremacists flaunting their privilege. take down the system!
Thank you!
@@WorldGoodswhat?
So much talent on one stage! Sad for Willie, having lost so many good friends, Blessings and Prayers!
Kris Kristofferson is still with us😊😊
Legends. I got into country in 1980. I'm an Englishman & I was working on a yacht in Glyfada, Greece. The bars were full of U.S. servicemen, Canadian oil riggers & British barmaids. Willie & Waylon seemed to be playing constantly. Best years of my life.
Sounded like the time of your life. 👍
I know exactly where Luckenbach TX is! My family of German ancestry used to go there for annual family reunions! We have pictures on front of the little general store even! Sorry we can’t go there these years 😢
Who else likes to finish work for the week, pour a few measures of whiskey, sit back, and put on these Highwaymen videos?
Me, on weekends. Slept late last night bingeing on both The Highwaymen and Whisky 🥃. Woke up this morning, scrolled back up the list and hit play as I read comments. Good weekend vibes.
I play it at work 😂
I work at a bar and when it’s allmlst closingtime I used to put on some Highwaymen... Longing for the time when covid is a bad dream from the past and we can enjoy life again
what else can we do cheers from Australia
Me
My God are there some legends on that stage or what? What I wouldn't give to have met each one of them.
0:35 lovely look to his dady
@@JorgeGonzalez-km5muwhat?
What I would have given to see this!
@@TheWoz9899 you just did see it.
I was blessed to have met each of them, separately, and in their prime and see and hear them perform live. And I've been to Luckenbach more than once. Now I'm an old lady with great memories!
These men are true legends
I was thinking exactly that!
Yes, Aldean and Underwood need not apply.
❤❤❤❤💯🤗
And many more..
Waylon, Willie, Johnny and Kris. Truly the greatest super group ever!
I saw The Highwaymen play in Brisbane in the late 90s. Love these guys and their music. Still bringing happiness.
0:37 The way Waylon looks and smiles at Willie. Priceless.
You’re priceless
It always makes me smile when I see it
@NoahC, you ought to find the Texas Country Reporter episode that deals with Luchenbach (been there BTW) and the inspiration for the song.
I agree.
You see the memories come flodding back in Waylon's eyes when he looks at Willie and smiles.
Why do I never get tired of listening to this man? Perhaps its because he sang like real grown up men like him behaved. The original Rocker and an outlaw legend. Rest in peace Hoss.
I think I’ve watched this at least 50x 😍
Can never get tired of a man that sings as smooth as silk, even with the gruffness of all the sand in Texas in his throat. Love, love, love Waylon.
He was Waylon!
I live in Australia I never get bored with great stuff
Lol..you know great music,,littlefield tx is his old roots,u should visit if u hadn't,
4 COUNTRY SUPER STARS ON ONE STAGE. DAMN, I WISH I WAS THERE
me too
I was lucky enough to see them all, and as I knew Willie very well, I was able to meet them all ang hang out between sound check and Waylon even took me to go find and meet Bobby Emmons as this is one of my favorite songs.. Atlantic City, New Jersey....sometime in the 90's😁
@@pamelafoxx129 - That's truly amazing! You would have some fantastic and memorable stories🥰

@@j.t.s8618 I used to be a roadie, people tell me that all the time...lol
Oh, Waylon and Johnny -- my heart aches missing you guys!!!
If you just think about the quality of the voice, for me it’s Waylon. Johnny, of course, has his own resonance, but Waylon has that wide open, deep, rich sound that is really special.
True words said. All brilliant singers in there own right. Willie has to best best guitar player outa the four. Wish today's music was as good
I would listen to Cash read the phone book.
Waylon is the greatest
Waylon's voice was incredible. Listen to him singing In Dreams in the early 60s. He gives even Roy Orbison a run for his money. In his younger years, Waylon's range was over 3 octaves.
love this song! Reminds me of my ex-boyfriend... went together for a year & broke up but we still cared for each other. His sister was my best friend, so we stayed in contact til she passed away in 2011 but i'd still call him & kept up with the family. We stayed close & one day he came by the place where i worked & wanted me to jump on his bike with him & head to Luckenbach which was 2 1/2 hrs away.. if i hadnt been married i woulda... we lost him 2 years ago.. I miss him & think of him every time i hear this song.
That was one hell of a shot he took there! You must have been very special to him. Classy moves allaround. A girl like you has somthing if not everything to do w/ theses songs, pure bliss!
"Maybe its time we got down to some basics in love" the way he sings that line, what a voice.
So true.
This was in 1990. In the summer of 91 I got to see them in Vegas. Was so amazing to see these four icons together on stage. Absolutely the greatest concert I ever saw.
I love this song. This was always on the juke when I was a young fellah. These guys are all legends. Lucky me, later I got to play a bunch of bass with Willie... I never imagined that would happen when I was putting all those quarters in the juke. 😎
That sounds really cool, that you got to play with a legend!
RIP Waylon Jennings
Four superstars and not an ego in the bunch. The way Hoss looks at Willie at the beginning and just laughs you know they were having a blast.
If there had been auditions to create the greatest group of all times, they never would have come up with anything close to these guys,
I wasn't born in this era but I can say that these men are the super group of music! There is no band after them who has that kind of country soulful magnetism. Their voices are smoothly connected and their masculinity is on point. Wow!!!💕💕
Listening to this beautiful piece of musical history with my 3 year-old who said: “Dad, whats the name of this music, what do we call this music? - I said: thats the american chanson, country music. He said. “I love this music.”
That's some serious talent on the stage. The good ol days. Time flies.
And no ego maniacs, either.
Hoss was the man! The Highwayman was the greatest 'Supergroup' period r.i.p JR and Waylon
I’ve only begun. Late to the WJ party. He sure can sing. Beautiful phrasing and tone.
If I had a million bucks (which I don’t) I’d pay it to see the Highwaymen in Luckenbach Texas with a cold Shiner!
Give those old 70's songs any day.
I am 15 years old, and even today, 2020, I continue to listen to it.
Once you listen to good music , you can't go back ^^
@@idouidou800 yeah
I'm 23 and I listen to all old good outlaw country, like Merle Haggard, Willie, Waylon, etc... I am also a big fan of the freewheeling Bob Dylan and JJ Cale (who is my favorite artist in general).
@@bsnf-5 l
@@ritagreenough5007 huh?
They make it look so easy to be great singers and musicians.
Somehow, 30 years ago, Willie still looks 90.
I think Willie looked 90 when he was 30.
I don't çare what anybody says these boys are the best and no wonder will replace them. Ever
This takes me back to shooting pool, eating beer sausage, and putting quarters in the jukebox back in the 70s.
I wept at what we have lost.
This chapter in the history of country music is closed. It can never be rewritten, recreated. resurrected or perfected the way it was here. But at least we have this record to remind future generations of artists what inspiration is and how the whole can be made greater than the sum of its parts, even when the parts are Johnny Cash, willie Nelson, waylon Jennings and kris kristofferson.
Can’t get any better than these four gentlemen right here
Waylon Jennings: The King of Country Cool
Memories ....happy comforting sounds, let's go back ......🎶💗
Oh Waylon.....my heart broke when you passed away. Will never be another like you. God bless you and keep you.
Bring back country music as it was
Love you, Tuffy. Thanks, being the Dad I never had.
Saya sangat beruntung melihat legenda ini, begitu kompak memainkan lagu ini...😎
These 4 great musicians, really brought it together when they decided to become Outlaws, The Highwaymen. I saw them in person twice, it's was awesome!! They also have a great backup band. They will always be my favorites. 🤗👏🎶🎼🥰
Leslie A West: Good for you!,that’s awesome! I saw Johnny and Waylon, wish I’d seen the 4 perform together.
I saw them too. wow
@@InFeinerWeise Well Thank You. Greeting to you from me in Reno, NV, America. Having a July Heat wave here. Only 2 members left from the Highwaymen. Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson. That 1990s Concert at Nassau Coliseum, I actually was able to buy the Dvd of it a few years ago from Amazon. I just loved Their Ghost Riders in The Sky. With now late Guitarist, Reggie Young, guitar solo in the song. I miss these guys as the Highwaymen, started out as American Outlaws, thus ended up as The Highwaymen. You have a very nice Sunday in Germany. 🎶🎵🎶👏🏼👏🏼🥰🤗
That steel guitar solo is one of the best I ever heard... the guy is a genius. So simple, yet so on point. I guess Waylon only played with the best, no wonder why these musicians are nailing it. Waylon was like Pat Metheny of country music.
As mama said, you practice practice practice, and then practice.
Robby Turner! He sure is the man!
It's amazing how Johnny Cash looks like a backup in this video. He's barely featured, yet he's such a force. That's like making a film staring Ralph Fiennes and having Anthony Hopkins backing him up.

Good music from back in the day.... Real country music, not pop!
The most replayed spot being 0:01 makes perfect sense for this song:)
Ah those teens years.

Robbie did an outstanding job on the steel guitar on this one.
I saw The Highwaymen in Las Vegas way back when. Unbelievable experience!

Most of the "population" of Luckenbach live outside the town on ranches and farms.
What an amazing Song, i only grew up with country and Elvis, i wish that i can someday visit Texas, godspeed
You can just tell how much Waylon admires Willie.
Best of the best. There will never be anything like this again. Ever
