  • Ice fishing slab crappie on the Ontario side of Lake of the Woods. Classic deep basin patterns common on Canadian Shield lakes. Opportunities for quality crappie that can average over twelve inches long.
We fished out of Tamarack Island Lodge which is a remote island fishing camp that was recently winterized. Very few anglers and non existent fishing pressure. A very scenic area of LOTW with many islands and a lot of structure. The lake access is located about forty five minutes north of the Baudette Crossing.
We had the most success with larger lures like the 1/8th ounce Clam Rattling PT Spoon tipped with a minnow head. Seemed like the larger baits with brighter glow colors seems to work best in the deep stained water. Besides excellent ice fishing for crappie, this area also has tremendous walleye fishing on main lake points and offshore reefs. Average depth for crappie seemed to be 28-36 feet of water. Average depth for walleye seemed to be 16-22 feet of water.
This camp is situated right in the heart of great fishing and took us about twenty minutes to reach driving across the ice. Very secluded with WiFi and limited cell reception. There is no running water but there was a comfortable out house and a method of showering was available by heating water on the stove. We had a full kitchen we used to prepare our own meals. Very comfortable and cozy cabins. Special kind of place for adventurous souls who want to go on a remote ice fishing trip. A situation where you bring a group of anglers that all fish like minded and get along. Special place for us.

Yes! I literally just searched up your channel two seconds ago to rewatch your older crappie videos! Thank you for always providing a tremendous amount of knowledge in your videos; from lake breakdowns, lure presentations you got one of the best informational ice fishing channels out there. Looking forward to this one! 💪🏽

I just texted the owners for more Info. Turns out it's almost exactly the same distance for me be it Devils Lake or LOTW. Decisions, Decisions!! I'm sure I'll make it to both 'cause we just don't get much if any ice here in southern PA anymore:(

Was that the actual map of where you were fishing? I spend a lot of time around that area.
