This painting is Inspired by my years living on the Isle of Syke... and also to celebrate Beltane.
My eldest was born on Skye, and I feel that wherever we've brought a kid into the world, that place becomes embedded in your heart? I mean, as if Skye wasn't already a magical place... it now has so much significance for me and my eldest.... so much so, that I actually feel homesick when I see Skye featured in a tv programme.
Why did I ever leave?, I hear you ask! Practical measures were needed. I was, at that time, in Donnie Munro's Band (Runrig) and also touring with my own band, and it just got way too much, travelling to Aberdeen, Glasgow or Edinburgh to gigs.... so we took the decision to move to Edinburgh.
Now further round the coast in East Lothian, which I do absolutely love. It offers so much! Forests, hills, beaches, castles and amazing wildlife, including the famous Bass Rock and Isle of May.
But for tonight, as I share this video with you, I'm back up near the Cuillins and having my breath taken away...
Hope you enjoy this, either to paint along, or to watch and relax. I SO enjoyed preparing this for you!
    All my love,
    Holly x x x

Holly, this was so fascinating to watch with all of the layering and final touches at the end! I love your choice of colors with these delicate white flowers….which remind me of wild roses. I also enjoyed the music! The Isle of Skye is on my bucket list! Thanks for sharing your talent❤

Oh Hi Merlinda! Ah yes Gouache can be challenging. And different makes react differently too. You can use white watercolour if you have that? or Dr Ph Martin's Bleedproof is good www.amazon.co.uk/Dr-Ph-Martins-Bleedproof-White/dp/B008CRS1CM/ref=sr_1_2?crid=5Q5XTWRLVXXK&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.9uZBYU2x4cSEMSAFYcKgBYkRE50IOq4kDi5gw1mpFIwmMBvRHjsOwqPexpuuemjY.NtvJhr-fnRgAerWwgpuP2SdioXBJ1w1eLoEh6rnCvi0&dib_tag=se&keywords=dr+ph+martin%27s+bleedproof&qid=1714683503&sprefix=dr+ph+martin%27s+bleedproof%2Caps%2C148&sr=8-2
Let me know if I can help in any other way. Hope you enjoy it 🥰
