Same here Helen. But I’m having the loveliest fun with it all are you 😀I’m going to try this technique with Alnwick castle having just come back from a break there🤞🏻
Wow! I just discovered your channel and liked and subbed! You are such a gift!! I’m a beginner and quite anxious about how and where to use color and make my lines but it’s as if you (such a wonderful- your work comes alive!) Artist have given me a lovely invitation to join the club. Thank you thank you thank you!! I cannot wait to see, to learn, to enjoy more! ❤
I like using a drop of clear water into the shadows to infuse a bit of light...done at the right time it will not create a huge bloom, but a subtle way of breaking up a boring shadow. Like your videos and work very much, thanks.
Thanks for this tip! I applied it to the dark parts of a church ruin and blended it in, works perfect as it contrasts to beautifully with the lighter yellow-ochre sandstone parts! I also want to mention that shadows using a black fountainpen and touched with a damp brush to let the activated ink run produces lovely lively shadows.
This is a great tip! And you’re right-I just went back to a couple trash bin sketches I’d done recently (where they ended up looking boring, but I couldn’t pinpoint exactly why) and scattered a touch of blue around. INSTANT pop! Thanks so much!
It does certainly have a cult like following 😂 and a lot of people who hate it. I would argue that art is a bit too intrinsically personal to be able to say anything is overrated, as if someone personally loves it then I wouldn't want to take that from them. I've, personally, not found anything yet which can produce the same effects and joy for me - though very happy to take suggestions! Just one silly man's perspective of course 😁😁😁 neither right nor wrong just thoughts 💭
Hugely appreciated James - notes your other questions too, I'll send you a link to the paper I use later today/tomorrow when I'm back at my computer. From memory it's called SAA Watercolour practice paper... Or something along those lines

Moonglow is greatly overrated
