Painting shadows in watercolor can be tricky. But it doesn't have to be.
Did you know that shadows actually reflect the surrounding colors in your scene?
Shadows can be tricky, but when they’re done right, they can bring a painting to life. They can add dimensionality and depth to your scenes. And they can contribute to the atmospheric light you are trying to capture.
In today’s video, I let you in on three common practices that hold artists back from creating compelling shadows in their paintings. I hope these tips help you see the nuance in your shadows and help you take the next step on your painting journey.

Thank you for sharing this important info on shadows and making them interesting! I never thought of shadows as being more than just gray or dark areas until now. You help me “see”!

I've been trying to apply your landscape painting advice in general to my work - it's definitely been helping with loosening up, but I had not considered when to use warm v cool in shadows, I'll have to test it out in the future! Maybe it's just the Australian summer but I definitely struggle to connect the shadows up because I find things tend to dry so quickly.

Grazie!!!
