  • I got many requests for a beginner friendly tutorial, so for this video, I picked a relatively easy one and teach you all the basics you need to know about sketching loosely with watercolors and ink. Many of you also voted for a real-time tutorial in my last poll, so this video is much longer than usual, however, you can always adjust the playback speed or do each chapter in your own time. Happy sketching!

I prefer longer, real time videos. I think I'm in the minority though, sadly. I love watching them once when I'm relaxing and then again when I paint my own stuff. My daughter is on the spectrum, I homeschool, and I have multiple chronic and painful health problems. Longer videos are the way I'm able to just relax. Sped up videos or videos that skip all over the place end up losing my attention haha. I watched this at 1.25x speed and it was perfect! Thank you!

"Draw what you see, not what you know." Wise words that my teacher said, a while back. I'm studying pedagogy, and chose arts and crafts studies this semester. I've been drawing and painting for years, but these words were an overdue reminder to me. Glad to hear it from you too! You paint so well, I aspire to paint like this.

I like the long videos too! It was especially helpful for me to see how lightly your original "drawing" by watercolor was in comparison to the final painting, which was considerably darker. Thank you very much for both the drawing by watercolor base layer and the detailed video to completion.

This is how I approach my acrylic paintings and other art. I take my time, but at the same time try not to think about everything not being perfect. This gives my art character, makes it mine. Anyone can draw a perfect straight line or go to art school and learn great technique. It's the flowing movements in our hands that create true art.

I enjoyed the long video, you have a wonderful voice for commentary it is soothing. I am glad you said what you did about black. I painted movie sets for many years and we mostly only used black when we did a set that was supposed to have been on fire. In nature you don't find black very often and when you do it mostly is because a fire or on and animal.

Thank you! I've tried to make the same, but I've messed up at the very beginning, and wanted to give up after the first layer of watercolour. But than I've thought "what the heck, I've already failed, let's see where it will go" and at the end it turns out much better than I've hoped after the first fail. Of course, nobody will ever guess, that my drawing has anything to do with the reference, and it has a lot of mistakes and absolutely crazy and unnatural perpective, but I am happy with the final result. I am not an artist, and this result is pretty good to me, and what is more important - my fear of failing is not so strong now. Thank you once again!

So prettyyy🤍 I too struggle with focusing on making things too accurate... so much so that the funness and joy of making art is lost. Like I draw thinking it will relieve me of my stress, but then I obsess over the smallest details which gets me even more stressed lmao😅🥲
This has inspired me to be do more of what feels right instead of confining myself to the reference image. Will definitely be trying loose sketching. Keep up the beautiful work :)

Because of the way you presented it, I was able to see all the complexities unfold as well as the later touches you made to the sketch. I will watch it again. Your narrative was so helpful to see what your thinking was about how you made changes and the reason for those changes. Thank you!! I also enjoyed the music. Glad that you list your resources and supplies which allows me to check them out and purchase what I liked for myself. That is so helpful. I am wondering where you got the porcelain palette? I liked the way it was divided.

I used to hate watercolor because that was what I always had to work with in our school's art class. Dropped the subject and a dozen years later I'm getting back.

Thank you, I really like your drawings. This video is great, you give a lot of tips 😜 since I tried your technique of sketching by eye with the wet-on-wet technique, my works are cleaner and without disturbing white holes and I relax more where to put light and shadows. Thanks again 😙
