Check out when I critiqued Punk....it did not go over well with him ruclips.net/video/RStgIbaXDoY/видео.html
"do an aerial" yeah man for sure i also loved Gundam Witch From Mercury
Ahhhhh based
I mean is jump in really a better term
I saw the original yesterday and thought it was very neat and worth practicing. Thank you for correcting it.
There is a lot of tech that seem to be hidden away in discords or twitters so I am very thankful that he's putting it out there even if it isn't perfect.
YW! the more knowledge out there is important to grow a community and sometimes we need a little help from strangers too
I think it's "dangerous" to put out a tech video when you get so much of it wrong/misguide your audience. Love your content here! I would actually love to see Gimr take his video down and do a correct version instead.
I agree, especially when he's such a well known figure in the "tech" community. If it was me i'd of taken it down and redone it, it wouldn't take much to fix his video.
@@ShinLadFGC definitely. Credibility is on the line when you get some key things this wrong and pass it on to your community. Would love to see a re-upload with the few key corrections done to it.
I thought I was crazy when I could block drive reversal when I did my own safe jump setup. Lol turns out the vid is kinda wrong.
But still useful tech, I hope this doesn’t discourage him or anything.
Same, I imagine people from his own community have been more savage on any previous errors
Glad you did this video to clear it up, it was bugging me lol. None of these vids mention akis od snake step, you can os that but you need something different than this. I have found sometimes if you try a safe jump heavy attack and mistime the button you will be open to throws where if you didn't do this os you can at least still tech in time rather than eat a punish counter throw since a lot of people react to safe jump by blocking and late teching.
True, that was something I wasn't thinking of but that's a google example too
thank you ShinLad question for you if I shield the safe jump what are my out of shield options if I cannot wake-up side B do I just have to shield?
but also a more genuine question, is this setup he was talking about safe to 5f DP? ie Ryu/Ken/Akuma/etc light DPs?
+42 safejumps are safe against 5f light DPs; the only moves that beat them directly are Lily’s enhanced Light or EX DP (4f) or Honda EX headbutt (Slower, but Honda takes a fixed 8f hitstop instead of the normal amount, so you’ll get punished unless you land with a light attack)
Yup, exactly. Lily one was new for me. Had to edit that out
honestly I don't even like this option select, tried it a few time in lab and I regularely get perfect parries out of it on DP making follow up combo hard scaled
Yup, agreed
Talk yo shit I appreciate you 💪🏿 I had no idea you had the "wit" too go with tech😂
Nice job. I was wondering if anyone was going to make those corrections to his video. I think this is a really concise way to do it too.
TY! I was conflicted on how to approach this since this was my first "reaction" video. Hopefully this goes over better than my Punk critique XD
i didn’t know shinlad was sassy like that
XD
Thanks, got a lot out of both videos
Good on you for not using this chance to crap on a video that even this video says 'is largely correct' and will help people.
Glad it helped
that thumbnail is just absolutely savage
I thought it was pretty funny but yeah, it came out really great
@@ShinLadFGC chef's kiss
Basically Gimr needs to understand some basics first, and one of it is "hitconfirm"
whats wrong with calling it an aerial?? would you prefer jump attack? 9MP?
Nothing wrong with it, I just think it's funny to pretend to be an FGC strawman sometimes. I thought it was funny to get progressively more mad every time he said it as a running gag

TRIGGERED!
Him saying aerial is understandable since I guess it's a smash term. Him not knowing the word "gauge" is insane. What's with Smash players not knowing how to pronounce things like "melee" for example.
Yeah not sure what he was thinking with gauge since it's a pretty common word. I have zero issues with the word Aerial I just thought it would be funny to pretend to be mad at it.
Someone tell me wtf a safe jump is and what is OS and what is tick throw
A safe jump is a jump in attack that's safe to invincible reversals, their recovery (aka end lag) ends in time before an invincible reversal move can come out.
OS stands for option select. It's an input that automatically selects different options depending on what the opponent does. hard to explain to the unititiated, but the simple version is that it's an input that will do different things depending on what the opponent does, and you use them to beat multiple potential options from your opponent at once so you don't have to do difficult or impossible reactions or guesses
A tick throw is when you grab someone after their blockstun or hitstun ends. Depending on the move that puts them in blockstun, you might be able to grab them quick enough that it will beat their attacks, so they have to either jump or press throw themselves to break it (you could call this a "true" tick throw). With other moves, they might not give enough blockstun to make the throw beat their attacks, but you can still go for a throw after their blockstun ends, banking on them not being ready the throw attempt (you could call this a "fake" tick throw). Fake tick throws are often done with jabs, but they can be done with other things too.
It's called a tick throw for mostly irrelevant and unhelpful etymology reasons so dont worry abt that
Great writeup
I guess because I know these terms I understood what he meant in his video. I have no problem with correcting terminology and explaining things more deeply. Would, as always, love if other commenters didn't feel superior about all the work you did lol. You even say he was largely correct.
Well said!
Correction on you, yes you can jump out of lily or manon's level 3 like you said, but if you're doing this OS to cover their drive reversal, when your land thru their invuln, you will parry as soon as you hit the ground. Then the manon/lily superflash will go off and you'll be locked into parry recovery and can no longer jump the super. So gimr was right there. You're correct on everything else tho
That's with the hindsight of knowing he is referring to the Parry OS. I interject before he mentions the Parry OS.
@@ShinLadFGC yeah but why keep it in the video when he continues correctly?
@@Awuga It's a reaction video. You watch, pause, react, resume
@ShinLadFGC oh sorry, this came off to me more an an analysis video, not reaction onr
I also wasn't that impressed with the video. What's even the point of the safe jump if you always do a stHP as follow-up on autopilot, doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
Definitely something he should have explained better
If its aimed for people coming fresh from Smash its fine. Too much correct content out there on YT that those players will watch after they get better anyways.
Yes that is new generation (Noob) if he play usf4 he will know the hardest things..thx u shinlad to show how stupidly he r
His "tech" in smash is also useless, wrong or extremely niche
Niche tech isn't necessarily bad as long as it's presented honestly as niche tech. Niche tech is the type of stuff that wins tournaments.
I am so tired of smash in every regard
As a Project M player turned SF6 player, and FGC enjoyer: I enjoyed you dunking on Gimr.
However, please don't hate us for saying aerial. Just be happy he didn't say tomahawk instead of empty jump or w/e.
Context: *Project M was a mod for Super Smash Bros Brawl that made it more melee like/competitive. Which was the opposite of what Nintendo wanted. So Nintendo, with some indirect help from TOs and streamers, quietly, then loudly, killed Project M. As a community, we kinda blame Gimr as he got big from PM, then never mentioned it once Nintendo offered $ to the scene.
And then it turned out, Nintendo fucking sucks and Nintendo went on to try to kill Melee too. Only then did casters, streamers, and TOs, stand up to Nintendo. So yeah, love him for all he's done, but fuck Gimr.
You can call it a sex kick for all I care XD. It was just a running gag. I think pretending to be FGC strawman is funny and you'll find a lot of sarcasm in my content. It helps keep educational content engaging imo
@@ShinLadFGC Hey Shin, why don't people walk forward and grab Luke charge knuckle? It's pretty easy as long as you do a lil walk forward and grab. It's very forgiving, a punish counter grab, and he can't super out of it.
I play Smash as a side game and man, I get that Gimr likes to provide tech but his way of trying to monetize it and make sure it's "content" is so exploitative and annoying. He's made "tech" his whole personality and this SF6 video is misleading to the point where he really should take it down.
Even this video, going at him, says 'the meat of it is correct'. No need to be ridiculous.
he doesnt just do tech, he also runs VGBC which is one of the biggest smash tournament organizers and streamers. that shit gets expensive so i dont blame him for trying to make money this way
@@RandomDude647 but he also started the chain reaction that detonated a LOT of full time salaries and prize pools (in both smash and the fgc) over a petty personal beef blown out of proportion
