    I used the dissolvable paper when sewing my wedding trainers. I marked out the designs I wanted to sew, stuck them to the trainers, used them as a guide and washed it off afterwards. Worked beautifully.

    Finally a large RUclipsr getting ahold of Gaffrey paints!
    The artist who originally created it, Justin Gaffrey, has a family owned business in Florida.
    They are really lovely people and his artwork is stunning.
    Truly for the price of a 32 oz acrlyic tube, its unbeatable.
    Using pallette knives, creating very bold impasto painting, and piping tips make it SO GOOD.

    • @chandrasunny
      @chandrasunny Месяц назад +28

      Yes, palette knives would be so good with this medium! She was complaining about the price a little but I was trying to think how I'd get that texture and buildability without sacrificing color intensity and I don't think that would be cheap.

    • @amyx231
      @amyx231 Месяц назад +17

      Problem is, their starting size is huge. For a hobbiest who wants to experiment with 3D painting, it’s hard to commit to even 6 colors of this stuff.

    • @chandrasunny
      @chandrasunny Месяц назад +7

      @amyx231 that makes sense. What I've done in the past is use an acrylic medium from the craft store to add the texture and buildability I wanted. It's an experimental process and not necessarily cheaper but as it's not precoloured it's a bit more versatile.

    • @RavenRaven96
      @RavenRaven96 Месяц назад +12

      @amyx231
      $14 Clear / $15 White for the starting 16 oz.
      You don't need to grab all the colors to play around with this stuff! You can mix your own colors using other acrylic paint you have and create your own collection. Can put it in Piping pages or zip lock bags for your own unique colors.
      The real fun is putting regular acrylic paint on a pallette knife and smearing it across!

    For the dissolvable paper, there is an embroidery interfacing that does the same thing, and it's for lace making or embroidery patches. It's easier to remove from the backing if it dissolves. :-) there is also thread that dissplves in water too.

    • @mad_hatt
      @mad_hatt Месяц назад +3

      @@lindatannock well, you need a ring and the paper. Which kinda makes the ring harder to put on. Especially if you have the stick on ones I have. Though, if your embroidery project is small enough then the paper could be stiff enough by itself. I use a plastic ring and that works better with the paper than the wooden ones. I hope you get back into it! It can be awesome for the ‘ol mental health.
      I’d also recommend trying cross-stitching. It takes a moment to get the hang of, but once you do it’s a lot less intimidating than embroidery

    • @laneybobaney7415
      @laneybobaney7415 Месяц назад +2

      @@lindatannock You still need a hoop, the paper isn't meant to keep the fabric tension, it's meant to help you transfer patterns. You can print your pattern right onto it, peel off the backing, stick it to the fabric, stitch through it and then wash it off. Sometimes I use that and sometimes I trace the pattern on with Frixion pens, and using the water soluble paper is much easier!

    I NEVER understood why people think watercolor is "permanent" the whole point of watercolor is that it's NOT permanent. I remember a lesson from my high school art teacher where we painted a leaf, and used a water drop to remove a circle of green to add a lady bug after it dried. Yeah, you can overwork the paper, but you can do that with most medias. watercolor is very mistake-friendly, you just need to know how to work it, which I feel more art teachers should include in lessons, because outside that one lesson, I didn't have an art teacher bring that up until costume rendering in college to clean up when we painted over the lines in our concepts. I appreciate you testing the traditional way to remove watercolor, as this is where being gentle and using good paper matters. I usually use a clean brush to do the aggravation to keep the paper from tearing up. It may have been the camera, but to me it looked like the results were pretty much the same. But I could find that product useful for small details or large scale removal.

    You can print on the dissolving paper with an inkjet printer "It's alcohol-based so it won't dissolve the paper" and then you paint an object with clear gesso, lay the ink side on the wet gesso, and then after it drys, dissolve the paper and it leaves the print behind.

    • @Angel-rq3pi
      @Angel-rq3pi Месяц назад +7

      Modpodge does the same thing
      Lay your print (from a copier, etc or your photo) face down (reverse the image first of need be)... I typically use poster putty to adhere the corners together. Then paint on modpodge until saturated. Allow to dry and cure. I usually wait a full 48 hrs. Use a warm damp sponge to "wipe" the "original" off the new copy.

    Regarding the dissolvable paper - in soap making it is used to incorporate printed pictures inside soap bars. For example you can print a photo on this paper, put it in a soap mold inside transparent soap base and voila, you have a soap bar with your photo :) when you will use it, it will just dissolve together with the soap bar.

    • @hgideon

      Modeling paste tends to crack if you use too much to the ratio of paint - you can't build it up the same way/ with the same amount of vibrancy as the heavy body paint. It is a cheaper option tho for sure! They also sell a medium viscosity of the same paint that layers beautifully with the heavy body paint if you put it in a piping bag. It's literally like painting with frosting - I highly recommend the paint!

It's also good if you want a detailed design -- you just embroider over the paper and then dissolve the paper away rather than tearing it, which can damage your work.

    The "resist" is just an expensive version of armorall tire foam spray because it is made with silicone which is hydrophobic and designed to repell water and dirt from the road to keep the car tires looking clean and shiny. It's also really good to use over finished sidewalk chalk drawings because it makes the chalk not wash away in the rain until the silicone spray wears off the surface.

    When I saw the watercolor palette on the thumbnail I immediately recognized it as Iuile watercolors. They're absolutely amazing!! I wish I could order more from them, but shipping is sooo expensive to the EU 😢

    Justin Gaffrey is a painter from Seaside, FL where I used to live. He was a pastry artist (did cake decorating) before he got into working with acrylics. His paintings use cake decorating materials like piping bags and pallette kinves, its beautifully thicc. You gotta see his art.

    Glass artist here, so I don’t do much standard art type work. But lot’s of varied “crafting” stuff along with the glass. There were truly a couple never heard of items here, bravo. NEW SUBSCRIBER.
    I have heard of Counter Culture and LOVE their glow products (man do those guys GLOW). I also love the whole back story on the black.

    The ending of 2024 sucked. I lost my stepmom a few days ago and yes I can agree. This year kinda sucked and wore me out. Hope y’all have a great new year and keep spending time with loved ones bc you never know if a cough, is just a cough.

    4:17 I would use the dissolving paper when I wanted a shape cut out that is difficult with an exacto knife. I’d use wax to block the water from dissolving the parts I wanted & let the rest float away. Happy New Year Rae, I hope we have a better year too 🤞🏻

    Idea for a helpful series. Id love it if you did a series where each video was a product guide for a different medium. For example a watercolor video would have suggestions for paper, pencils, paint, other tools, hacks, the erasor primer liquid thing in this video etc.

    Working with a new medium is so humbling. When I use markers and pencils, I can make it look like a painting. When I use paint, I struggle to make it look like it wasn’t painted by a 5-year-old.

    If you use a can of tire shine (the aerosol spray that makes tires shine after you wash your car) it has the same effect on sidewalks as “resist” and last for a looooooooong time. I didn’t think it would work and I sprayed “hi :)” on my sidewalk and it resisted the water for at least two years!

    I've actually been to the studio of the artist behind the Gaffrey paint. They have some pretty cool pieces there! You can use it with regular acrylic to make different shades and colors. You're not limited to just what you get in the order with those paints, color wise.

    Dissolvable paper is used as a support for various projects while they’re being made - when another kind of support / base plate would be impossible or impractical - like tight spaces.
