Hey, Addie! Excellent choice! One of the best franchises ever!
- 1:24 - "Is that Doc Ock?" You are the first reactor I have seen recognize Alfred Molina as Sapito! This was his first film. That's awesome!!!!
- 9:44 - That IS Gimli!!! John Rhys Davies plays Sallah in this and 'The Last Crusade'. One of the best character actors from Britain. He has been acting since the mid-1960s (he's 78 now). His big break was in a BBC series called 'I, Claudius' in 1976 that got him noticed in America thanks to PBS and Masterpiece Theater, then came the mini-series of 'Shogun' based on James Clavell's monster best-selling novel. In that, he played Vasco Rodriguez working along with Richard Chamberlain, the King of the TV Miniseries back then, and legendary Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune (The Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Rashomon, and The Hidden Fortress, which inspired Star Wars - Episode IV). "Shogun' was such a hit that basically stopped everything over the course of a week back in 1980 (everyone was watching it during prime time), and Rhys Davies had a big juicy role that is lovable. Both series are still available and are amazing!
- 11:28 - Improvised moment. There was supposed to be a huge fight between Indy and the Saracen Sword guy. It was even storyboarded so everyone knew the set-ups and such. However, Ford was really sick due to local food, as was a lot of the crew. He suggested just shooting the guy to Spielberg. Spielberg said yes. A moment that is both iconic and comedic gold!
- 15:27 - Oh, Addie...Where's the fun in that? 🤣🤣🤣"Let's not and say we did!"
- 16:40 - No. Not all. But there are bugs (HUGE ONES!), rats, and other grossness in the other movies. Spielberg does like being a little sadistic when it comes to stuff like this. "Let's make the audience squirm!!! He-he-he!" 🤣🤣🤣
- 19:26 - Uhhhhh...snakes are over...but...well, you'll see!
- 27:42 - Yep! The real horror show. This gave me nightmares for days because I was 9 years old when this came out.
- 28:54 - Well...it's a government storage facility. Who knows what all could be in there. However...as a teaser...'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull'. No spoilers...
Looking forward to the next reactions!!!
I was gonna say the same thing! I've never seen anyone recognise Alfred Molina!
MAJOR props for recognising Molina
Something I've never seen or heard mentioned by anyone watching this movie for the first time, or on repeat viewings for that matter: Indy offers Marion $5,000 (USD, presumably) total for the headpiece. That much money in 1936 with inflation since would have the buying power of around $100,000 now (plus or minus a few thousand), so that's a LOT of money Indy is pretty casually offering up.
There are snakes in all(3) the jones films.
I’d forgotten that John Rhys Davies was in I, Claudius. I mostly remember it as the only time most Americans see Brian Blessed without that magnificent beard.
Another great John Rhys Davies movie that gets very little attention is Victor Victoria. Julie Andrews, Robert Preston, JRD, James Garner, and Leslie Ann Warren.
This is a classic! One of the greatest film in Hollywood!
Also, today is Harrison Ford's birthday!
Happy Birthday Harrison Ford 🎂🎂🎂🎂.
August 15th is his birthday? Nice!
@@alitlweird No, his birthday is on July 13th.
1:23 👍, good job, Addie! Good eyes!
2:02 just some friendly neighborhood spiders. 😜
The warehouse at the end of the film was one of the inspirations for a fun sci-fi/fantasy series called Warehouse 13. It's worth watching...if you have the time.
Yes she seemed interested... So I came here to say the same thing 😄
As did I... [deletes comment]
Such a fun series. Allison Scagliotti makes music now, as La Femme Pendu. She’s SO DAMN GOOD.
@@daddynitro199 yeah she really is and I followed her over to stitchers too.. But she was great on W13
@@garbonzo9 The casting on that show was done very well.
"I Hope We Can Trust Him"
Salluh (John Rhys-Davies) is definitely a very trustworthy person, he and indy go back quite a ways
17:21 That coathanger was brilliant :D I laughed so hard back then...
Awesome job catching Gimli and Doc Ock! Think you'll enjoy the triology. My personal favorite is the 3rd so I look forward to your reaction!
and Mr Atto from Black Hawk Down
And Kingsley Shacklebolt from Harry Potter (Mr Kananga, Captain of the Bantu Wind)
Happy 80th Birthday to Harrison Ford! I'm glad that you got to see this movie on his birthday! It's a timeless classic! 🎂🎉❤
Can I just say how impressed I am that you recognized veteran actors Alfred Molina and John Rhys-Davies?? You're right, they played Doc Oc and Gimli among scores of other characters over the years, but very few recognize their faces from the early 80s -good eye! :)
The crew actually had tons of fun playing with the snakes as they were non poisonous. But when the King Cobra was brought in everything changed, treating that cobra with the utmost respect and caution. If you look closely, you can see a glass wall in between Ford and the Cobra just in case it felt threatened and decided to do something about it.
The snake reflection was obvious in the original version. But they did a little digital clean up and removed it in the re-released version.
"You're supposed to be afraid of the fire. Why are you ruining my movie?"-SS taking to one of the pythons.
Also, some of the "snakes" were legless lizards
That was an Indian cobra, not a king cobra. Still potentially dangerous to work with and something you should never be bitten by.
@@bkjeong4302 Don’t king cobras come from India?
As an arachnophobe, the tarantulas bother me WAY more than the snakes! 😂 😱
Same
Yep. Me too. Spiders a big nope for me. Don’t know how I’d go being dropped in a pit filled with them, but mostly snakes are almost ok. Most of them leave humans alone unless they feel threatened.
I love it that she recognized Gimli. Addie's great.
Watching that movie for the first time in a packed theater was incredible. Everyone was exhausted by the end.
I was only 10 and watched it alone in the theater. 😳
My mom got stuck working taking audience surveys after the movie. I got to theater hop for a few hours while she did that. This is the only movie I remember from that day. Interestingly, the snakes didn’t bother me in the slightest. I had an uncle with a reptile room in his house with all sorts of snakes and lizards. He’d milk the poisonous ones for the venom. I had a healthy respect for snakes but wasn’t afraid of them. It was the melting faces that made me scream.
I watched it with my mom and grandma. My grandma was probably 80 at the time and she whooped and screamed and covered her eyes and said it was the best movie she'd ever seen.
@@jeanine6328 Understandable. The melting face had me legit crying and I covered my eyes for the rest of the scene. 😭😂😭😂
"Do all of his movies have a ton of snakes?"
Yes 😬
The much maligned 4th has the least snakes, but Temple and Crusade have their fair share. Be brave Addie! Indy can power through his fear and so can you!
Be aware, Temple of Doom is a prequel set the year before, so Marion will not appear.
I would like to point out, to me that was one of the big flaws in Doom. Indy had no fear of snakes in that one. Raiders is my all time favorite movie, but Temple Of Doom was a big disappointment and totally rediculous for many reasons I won't give away just yet. I hated it as much as I loved Raiders. Actually prefered Crystal Skull over that one. However, loved Last Crusade that brought back the feel of Raiders. It should have been the second, instead of Temple Of Gloom.
@@wiseguymaybe When were there snakes in Doom? And you have something good to say about that piece of garbage Crystal Skull? Let's just jam every New Age crap idea we can think of in there...
@@wiseguymaybe "Indy had no fear of snakes in that one." Tell me again how you hate a movie you clearly haven't watched...
@@LordVolkov Clearly I have watched it. You got a lot of nerve saying that. I wouldn't hate on a movie I haven't watched and I'm not going into detail why because that would be considered spoilers. Thanks for judging me, I don't appreciate people saying things that are not true.
You have no idea what I've seen and what I haven't seen. I'm sorry, but I'm mad when people say things about me that are not true. Yeah, he didn't see a live snake, but what he was doing, and again no spoilers, what he was doing in the movie with snakes made no sense. Patrick, you don't know me and you don't know what you are talking about. If that makes you mad, I'm sorry. But there was not call to say that when you don't know what I've seen and what I haven't.
@@wiseguymaybe Ooh, looks like I touched a nerve! 🤣🤣🤣 I didn't bother to read your little rant, sorry.
How's this though? In the jungle camp scene, a python descends on Willie's shoulder and Indy is paralyzed with fear while she flings it away thinking it's the elephant. But maybe you should go back and actually watch it if you think I'm wrong.
Right on time for Harrison Ford's birthday. Can't wait to see you react to Temple of Doom, Last Crusade and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Of course all Indiana Jones films have snakes, but they only happen in brief moments in the sequels, though ToD is a prequel. You can do this, Addie.
...and the scene where Marion sees the dead bodies and screams bloody murder at one with a snake coming out of it , at 19:10 to 19:24, is probably my favorite scary scene in the movie. It gives me feels of the forest chase from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937).
One lesson to be learned here... never bring a scimitar to a gunfight.
I still love that scene... it's so "I really don't have time for this sh!t.."
Because he was too busy shitting. He had diarrhea. Check out the look on his face
Indy has quite an interesting backstory. The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles showcases his earlier adventures and the people he met. It includes going on safari with Teddy Roosevelt, a friendship with Ernest Hemingway, and riding with Pancho Villa. There is quite a bit that Indy has lived through, including World War One. Also the girl with the writing on her eyelids was an unscripted thing aimed at Harrison Ford.
The truck chase is one of my favourite scenes in movie history, such a well balanced mix of story-telling, action and music, about as perfect a sequence can be!
29:00 According to _Mad Magazine_ (1982), the boxes contain:
- Safe sugar substitutes
- Fuel- saving engines
- Break-proof toys
- Cancer-proof cigarettes
- Never-die batteries
- Long-lasting soaps
... and the like.
Love it🤣
@@Big_Tex and the contents of Al Capone's glovebox.

L and O and L,
I have not laughed like that in a long time. 😅😂🤣
Gun to the knife fight is one of my all time favotire moments in film period. The fact that it was completely improvised because Harrison wasn't feeling well that day lead to such a memorable moment.
Saw this in the Theatre with my Dad. We both loved it. He loved it because it reminded him of the Republic Serials he grew up with.
Addie on an Indiana Jones movie: "Don't hurt the horse."
Addie on an Indiana Jones movie: "Are all the snakes dead yet?"
LOL
"Is That Doc Ock??"
Yes ma'am, Addie
That most certainly is Alfred Molena in this opening scene
In his first film!
And to mess with the new guy, they had tarantulas crawling on him 😂
Satipo
@@SergioArellano-yd7ik actually, Alfred Molena's character in this was named Sapito
Today (July 13th) is Harrison Ford's 80th birthday, by the way, so you picked a PERFECT DAY TO UPLOAD THIS ONE!

To.THIS. Day.
And. The. Greatest. TIME. To. Be. A. Kid!
Can you guys believe we had it sooooo gooood?!!!!
Addie: Exclaims "Mother of pearl" when scared.
Me: Now picturing Addie clutching at a pearl necklace in horror. 🤨😂
Kudos for recognizing doc ock in there.
Edit: and gimli!
Eagle-eyed and crimson-haired, a great combo
The end scene on the steps takes place in Washington DC, but was actually shot inside San Francisco’s City Hall.
Q: What did Marion Ravenwood say when she entered Draco Malfoy’s dormitory?
A: “This whole place is Slytherin!”
Thank you goodnight.
John Rys Davies is often asked to say the line: "Asps, very dangerous, you go first" by fans, lol.
After all he went through in the opening scene, he’s afraid of the snake in the plane. I always laugh about that.
29:40 So I suppose _Snakes on a Plane_ is out of the question?
As far as I'm concerned; it's my favorite Indiana Jones movie.
I think you're the first reactor I've seen who has put together that Gimli and Sallah are played by the same actor. But honestly, I don't get how people can't like Snakes, I think they're amazing!
I know it's wrong, but I couldn't help but laugh my ass off when Addie was freaking out with the snakes. That had me dying 🤣💀
Just imagine what she'd be like if she watched snakes on a plane.
...or Anaconda, Bullet Train, Conan The Barbarian, or Babylon.
It makes me very happy to see someone enjoy the movie for the first time. I remember watching this in the theatre and it brought so much joy!
Wow, good catch on the actor who was the guide in the cave in the beginning being Alfred Molina who played Doctor Octopus, I never noticed that! 😲
"$3000, That's Not Bad"
Considering that this movie was set in 1936, $3000 was a pretty hefty chunk change back then
There's a site called US Inflation Calculator. If you put 1936 and $3000 on its inputs, it returns that today it would be worth almost $64,000. Not bad at all.
Fun fact: the scene where Indy shoots the sword guy was supposed to be a full fight scene but Ford had bad food poisoning that day so the scene was shortened(you can even see in the close ups of his face during the scene how sh*tty he was feeling).
Hey Addie, so happy you got a chance to see this Classic! :)
Beyond cool you had this on Harrison's 80th birthday Ads (I'm glad you were able to get thru the snake pit scene - there were literally hundreds of them for the shoot; the cobra moment where Indy is face-to-face with it was partitioned by a pane of plexiglass to secure his safety and you can see its reflection when the lighting strikes). The greatest action film of all time IMO that cemented Ford's movie stardom forever. Spielberg & Lucas made a fine DynamicDuo in getting their valentine to '30s & '40s serial shorts from their youths (back in the day moviehouses would show serialized cliffhangers before the feature film - about a 15 min. short where audiences would then be forced to come back the next week to see how the hero got out of a serious scrape with death defying stunts). Fun fact the Nazi soldier Indy tussles with in the truck actually doubled for Ford when Jones goes under it! Personal note: I saw this when I was 12 when it was first released and when my family went to see it apparently my sister & I were cutting up so our mom brought us into the lobby to scold us and warned we'd be in trouble when we got home. The film was so entertaining she completely forgot about it and we never got punished - so Indiana Jones saved my skin! :D LOL - I know you'll enjoy the others too (and INDY 5 will be out next summer!)
Addie... nice reaction. You did quite well with all those snakes. I'm not afraid of snakes in general, but wouldn't want to be in the middle of that many haha. In movie number three you'll see why he doesn't like snakes. Also how he started using a whip and came to wear that Indiana Jones hat. Thanks
I was trying to remember if there were snakes in part 3. Of COURSE!
Some may not know this.. but the German U-Boat mock up.... was on loan from the production of Das Boot...
1:29..."Is that Doc Ock"...holy shit, I myself completely forgot that this was a young Alfred Molina 😆 🤣. Damn good eye!
A classic yes, but to tell a truth; "Last Crusade" is my fav of the trilogy, can't wait for that.
Yeah, the chemistry between Harrison Ford and Sean Connery (RIP) is just perfect.
@@vinnycordeiro Shhh. Spoilers...
@@Lucas-Stl Just saying that an actor will be on the film is hardly an spoiler, but I'll shut up anyway. XD
11:23 this scene is awesome. And it was not even planned to go that way.
Fun fact: Pat roach is the gigantic Nazi that Indiana fights towards the end of the movie. He also appears in Temple of doom, and last Crusade. Since you are so good at finding actors from other movies, let’s see if you can find him him again! Sadly, he passed away before Crystal skull was made.
He was also the Arab with the sword Indy shot.
@@SergioArellano-yd7ik nope, that Was Terry Richard’s. Pat Roach was the mechanic at the end and one of the big sherpas in the fight in Marion’s bar.
Hehe.. yer one of the few 'reactors' that can recognize actors from other movies they watched.
Love John Rhys Davies work.. the 'very dangerous.. you go first' line is iconic.
Also loved (Marion) Karen Allen's work.. loved the chemistry between them.
A great choice... all and all.. the trilogy was amazing.
This film made me go nuts trying to find a fedora to match the one Indy wore.. lol
I look at you the way Indiana's students look at him. 😆😍
Do you write anything on your eyelids?
I just knew the spiders and snakes would get a hilarious reaction from you! Too funny!

Nominated for 8 Oscars including Best Picture but won for:
Best Sound Editing
Best Sound
Best Film Editing
Best Visual Effects
Best Production Design
Jack Nicholson, Nick Nolte, Kurt Russell, Jeff Bridges, Nick Mancuso, Chevy Chase, Steve Martin, Tom Selleck, Peter Coyote, John Shea and Tim Matheson were considered for Indiana Jones.
Amy Irving, Sean Young, Stephanie Zimbalist and Barbara Hershey were considered for Marion.
The sounds of Indy's handgun are that of a 30-30 Winchester rifle.
The punching sounds are that of someone whacking a pile of leather jackets with a baseball bat.
Half the cast and crew got food poisoning except for Harrison Ford and Speilberg whom ate Spaghetti O's and PBJ Sandwiches.
Ford suffered Diarrhea while filming the swordfighting scene that was cut from the movie.
It was 110 degrees in the shade. Luckily they filmed the climax at Elstree Studios London England.
The VFX were done by Industrial Light and Magic.
The sounds of the spirits coming out of the Ark are that of Dolphins and Seals played backwards.
The film was a box office and critical success, making $390 million dollars against a $20 million dollar budget.
It's considered not only the best action movie ever made, but one of the greatest motion pictures of all time.
I’ve never seen it on a greatest movies of all time list. I think it’s more beloved by those who saw it young. I personally never liked it as much as I did when I was a kid, as I think there are too many long action sequences and I start getting bored during the truck chase.
The part where the big boulder is right behind Indiana Jones... was 100% real. It wasn't supposed to come down the way it did, he was actually running for his life.
Harrison Ford was supposed to have an elaborate fight with that swordsman in black but the day they were to film it, Ford was sick with dysentery and was having trouble doing anything physical. He convinced Steven Spielberg that Indy would not waste his time while looking for Marion, and just shoot the swordsman.
John Rhys-Davies (Gimli) has been in many movies and shows since this came out including the excellent sci-fi series Sliders.
I read somewhere that Davies thought the writing on Sliders was terrible. Half-assed stolen/borrowed plot ideas....terrible dialogue....
Ronald Lacey (Major Arnold Ernst Toht) played a great role in this movie! 😂
The most dramatic reveal of a coat hanger in cinematic history.
"Temple of Doom" is amazing
.
The actress who played the female lead (Kate Capshaw) got married to Steven Spielberg. They have now been married for 30+ years
"March of the Slave Children" is one of my favourite ever John Williams pieces - can't wait for you to see/hear it!
Yes that was doc oc, actor is alfred molina.
And yes that was gimli.

July 13, 2022: Happy 80th Birthday, Harrison Ford! 🎂
The new 4K pressing of this movie is gorgeous.
Capt Katanga...Mr Atto from Black Hawk Down. Totally recognized JUST the voice.
“Mother of Pearl!…” that made me laugh. Hehe.
I remember watching this in the summer of '81 with some friends (we had just finished HS) and the commercial ads for the movie seemed like a good flick. . . and, after all, it was "Han Solo." Can not emphasize enough watching this movie in the theater - - the stunts & special effects (for the time) were great. A very fun movie.
Time doesn't always kill a good stunt. Steven Spielberg added an old stunt to this movie that still impresses. When Indy lowers himself from the front of the truck, then slowly lets himself slide under it, it's Spielberg's homage to stuntman Yakima Canutt, who was the first to perform the stunt in the 1937 film Riders of the Dawn. Although he most famously used it in John Wayne's breakout 1939 movie, Stagecoach (it was a western, and Yakima slid under 6 horses and a stagecoach).
lol Addie, you made me flinch because you were so on edge at the beginning. :D
I saw this title and laughed because I knew there was going to be some great jump/scare reactions. 😂
Your reaction to the snakes in the temple is priceless!
"Is that so that no one finds the Ark, or are all those boxes filled with potentially dangerous things like the Ark?"
Yes.
In some copies of the movie you can barely make out smudges on a piece of glass between Harrison Ford and the Cobra. And most of the snakes were actually just rubber. But there were plenty of live ones too.
Fun fact about the Snakes in The Well of The Souls, Spielberg asked for more Snakes because in a wide shot one can tell on the sides of the frame, there wasn't Snakes so he asked Frank Marshall, a Future Executive Producer on The "Jurassic World" films to go anywhere he could take find as many snakes as they were in the United Kingdom to find Snakes, lol.
You're easily becoming one of the best reactors on RUclips. Congrats and good luck on your channel!
Yes, that was Doc Oc.. :)
The place at the end of the movie is a government warehouse where they store a whole bunch of other 'not-to-mess-with' secrets and treasures...
It's a nod to Citizen Kane and his sled at the end of that film.
My favorite fact I learned in the last year is that the guy that says “Top…Men..” with the pipe in his mouth, never is mentioned on screen but is credited as “Major Eaton”. The actor also is in Star Wars: A New Hope during the Death Star battle as “Porkins”. For some reason George Lucas loved calling him fat in his movies.
_"Hey, let's set up our airfield next to that ruin that definitely doesn't contain the relic we're looking for, guys."_
According to the TV series Warehouse 13, all those boxes are filled with dangerous magical items.
As someone who was absolutely terrified of snakes growing up (we had rattlesnakes in the area too) I over came most of the fear watching The Crocodile Hunter with Steve Irwin. He taught me they weren't just blood thirsty monsters.
In January 1980 I entered the History course at the Catholic University and it was one of the least popular courses. In 1981 this film came out and the History course became very popular.

"Mother of pearl! Those are snakes!" Haha. Spoken like a true southern lady. ;-)
While I don't want you to be uncomfortable, I have to admit that I thoroughly enjoyed watching you freak out from the snakes! I enjoyed the video; good job
Right on about Doc Ock! Sapito was his first film role.
Flashbacks to a previous movie.... Harrison Ford is not the only Star Wars alumni in this movie. The mustached Major who gives Indy the mission was also the ill-fated Jek Porkins, aka Red 6, in Star Wars.
I'd hope that Gimli looks different. There was, what, twenty years or so between Raiders and Fellowship? 😀And of course he's a good guy. He's Gimli (and Treebeard) after all!
Yeah, I felt how you felt watching that snakey scene. Hard pass on going in there, but if it has to be done...
The amazing Pat Roach of the repeated roles in the trilogy. 😀He's one of the Sherpas in the tavern fight and the burly German boxer in this movie, and he appears in the next two as well. 😀 And yeah, he always dies. 😀 He also has a major role in the wonderful fantasy film Willow, another good one to watch.
And, yes, the warehouse that the Ark gets stored away in was the basis for the excellent show Warehouse 13, which you absolutely should watch. 🙂
Love the Indiana Jones Movies! Enjoyed the Video! 🤗
$3000 in 1936 (when this movie is set) is the adjusted for inflation equivalent of $68,092.01. Your "That's not too bad" was putting it mildly.
