Hannibal's cell having a sliding glass door instead of bars gives the impression that he's not so much a prisoner as much as he's a museum specimen that's being scrutinized and studied.

Anthony Hopkins' total screen time in this film was just shy of 25 minutes, and he still won the 1991 Academy Award and British Academy of Film Award for Best Actor. Plus his performance as Hannibal Lecter ranks #1 on AFI's "100 Movie Villains" List. That speaks volumes on Anthony's acting abilities.
Jodie Foster as Clarice Starling is the top-ranked woman on their Heroes list, too, beating out even Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley from Aliens (who's in the second spot).

Starring Peter O'Toole and Katherine Hepburn (her third Oscar), it is a Medieval political/family drama about Henry II of England, Eleanor of Aquitaine, his queen, their three sons, Richard (Hopkins), Geoffrey, and John, and the general political situation among the Plantagenets at the end of the 12th century. As well as winning Hepburn her third Best Actress Oscar, it won Best Adapted Screenplay, for James Goldman who adapted it from his play, and Best Original Score for John Barry. Jodie Foster didn't reprise her role in the sequel, "Hannibal", because she was busy working on another movie, and though it did do well at the box office, it was given mixed reviews, especially by the late Roger Ebert. The general consensus was that it borrowed a lot of stuff from ITS source material. A lot of people just loved the first one THAT much.
The fact they have two scenes that are not shown but left to the imagination to explain how dangerous Hannibal makes him even scarier ( What he did to the nurse and talking Migs into swallowing his own tongue)
This is one of only three movies to win the five major (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor, and Best Actress) Academy Awards. The other two are (1938) It Happened One Night, and (1975) One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.
Hey Addie!!! - Only three films have won Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, and Screenplay. 'It Happened One Night', 'One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest ', and 'The Silence of the Lambs'. - Sir Anthony Hopkins found the voice of Lecter through one of the many actresses he had worked with in the past. In 1967, he made the film 'The Lion In Winter' playing a young Richard the Lionhart, and the legendary Katherine Hepburn played his mother, Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine. The voice of Hannibal Lecter is basically a bit of a mimic of Katherine Hepburn's voice. - Jodie Foster never talked with Anthony Hopkins until last year, when they reunited for the film's 30th Anniversary. Jodie talked with "Lecter", just not Tony...she was THAT scared of him on set! The video of their reunion is on RUclips, courtesy of Variety channel's "Actors On Actors" series. - This is the first of three films Hopkins made as Lecter...'Hannibal' (2001), and 'Red Dragon' (2002)...The first was a sequel and co-starred Julianne Moore as Clarice, the second was a "prequel" that co-starred Edward Norton and Ralph Fiennes. - This is the second of four novels by Thomas Harris that featured Dr. Hannibal Lecter...Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, and Hannibal Rising. It's not really shown, but the reason Hannibal hates Jack Crawford was that before he was caught for his own crimes...Lecter helped Crawford and another agent named Will Graham catch serial killers. That story is told in both novel and film of 'Red Dragon' which was actually made TWICE...In 1986, director Michael Mann did the first film version called 'Manhunter' which starred William Peterson (of 'CSI' fame) as Will Graham and in a single scene, Brian Cox (currently Logan Roy on HBO's 'Succession') as Hannibal Lekter (with a k spelling). I am NOT a horror fan, either. This is one of the rare exceptions...although it is more a thriller than a horror. For really great Hopkins movies: Legends of the Fall, The Mask of Zorro, Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Lion In Winter, The Remains of the Day, Howard's End, and Meet Joe Blck are a few. Jodie Foster movies: Contact, Nell, Anna and the King, Maverick, and Home For the Holidays (which she only directed)
Hannibal identifying her by scent, being able to tell when she's stopped bleeding, and imitating her accent are all hyper-predatory. He is the apex predator in this movie, and yet he's so compelling that we're weirdly attracted to him, like the beauty of a tiger's stripes. Starling and Lecter's relationship is deepened in the novels, but you can see how much Hannibal likes her from their very first meeting. When she says, "no, you ate yours" about Hannibal's trophies, there's a glimpse of Hannibal thinking, "oh I LIKE this one". She's not afraid to go /there/ within the first five minutes of the conversation. And Crawford's line "the last thing you want is Hannibal Lecter inside your head" is profoundly ironic because by allowing Lecter into her mind, she is able to come to terms with her father's death and the trauma on the ranch. He helped her because he's a good psychiatrist. But he molded her because liked her.
This is a truly great movie. How they switch to a first person view at certain points to force you into Starlings point of view is a great tool to put you in the movie. Also, the quick introductions to Dr Chilton and Lector is great juxtaposition of the two, making you immediately dislike Chilton despite him not being the murderer. I also like the witty, and morbid, humor sprinkled in the movie, it really helps to break the ice at times.
27:15 you do your own editing?? I have to give you big kudos here. One of the reasons I really enjoy your channel is that I think you do some of the better edits out of the movie reaction channels. You usually manage to pin point most of the important story beats so that the shortened vs of the film we watch with you here still has a decent flow to it and tells the story properly. And for someone that obviously hasn't watched many films (and I'm assuming doesn't work in film at all), that's impressive that you have the proper instincts for that. A lot of people don't and a lot of the movie reaction channels short edits are complete messes. So much respect on your editing skills here. I thought for sure you had hired an editor since your edits are usually so susinct. Anyways, another good one to check out is Se7en. It was from a little later in the 90s, and it has different themes, but its another excellent thriller with some strong performances and strong story telling. And since you were able to handle this one, I think you'd be OK with that one as well. It'll definitely have its suspenseful moments too, but like this one, its a suspense/thriller so you don't have to worry about too many jump scares.

Hi Addie! So this is one of my favorite films. This is one of only a handful of films to win the "big 5" at the academy awards. Even though she won an Oscar for her performance, I feel like first time viewers tend to overlook Jodie Foster's performance. She is amazing. Her Clarice Starling is one of my favorite female protagonists. I hope you change your mind and revisit this film one day, there are nuances in the performances and the filmmaking that make repeat viewings rewarding!

Fantastic reaction video Addie 🏆 ❤ 🎥 When Starling was in the basement searching for the killer, I think that's the only time I heard you swear 😆 LOL Anthony Hopkins is one of the legends of cinema .... He was remarkable in the series "Westworld".... It's four seasons and I highly recommend you do reactions to it.... The cast of actors are absolutely outstanding.
Well done for watching this great film. Both Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster won Oscars for this. Amusingly Foster was so creeped out by Hopkins performance that she couldn't talk to him off set.... and has never spoken to him since!
You mentioned the disembowelment scene as a "spectacle" and that was exactly what was being done. Lecter needed to shock everyone - while he laid there with "Ready When You Are Sgt Pembry's" face. He needed that younger officer to be freaked out and not look too closely, so the spectacle plus his boss's short tempered "It's Pembry - talk to him, damnit!" demand lets Lecter escape. Quite a chess move sequence... if you follow up with HANNIBAL, you'll be treated to another view of disembowelment as a form of art and its historic importance. Plus, you'll be reminded that the finest chefs often prepare meats at the patron's tables over flames or skillets. No need for ketchup.
Addie you have really opened a new beloved series of mine with this heavy hitter blockbuster. Sir Anthony Hopkins has a top notch performance, the kind that sends shivers down your spine (similar from the Wolfman 2010 of his). You keep giving us precious reactions and I for one am grateful for your dedication, time and effort. Obviously you do it with genuine pleasure and that pays off. Love you sweet summer child ❤️🤗.
This is an amazing movie and easily one of my favorites. And I agree that it's more suspense than horror, but I think that makes it a bit scarier. It's grounded in reality and yet still had that horror element to it. It's so well done. And hearing you drop an F-bomb when you try sooo hard to refrain from it the other times was pure gold haha.
Proud of you baby girl. As much as this stressed you out, you held up. Odin crushed it with >20 minutes. Hannibal's respect for Clarice kept her from ending up in a bad place. Well she ended up in a bad place but it wasn't HIS fault. " ...having a friend for dinner" great ending.
The story was inspired by the time that the FBI asked Ted Bundy to create a profile of the green river killer and when they finally arrested him they realized that Bundys profile was pretty accurate, the scene where Buffalo Bill is also inspired by Bundy who would wear a fake cast on his arm and pretend he was struggling to get something in his VW Bug in view of a woman he wanted and when she helped him he would hit her over the head and push her into his car. The character of Buffalo bill was inspired by a few serial killers including Ed Gein who besides killing a few people would also steal recently buried bodies and use them to make things like a pair of gloves and a lampshade made out of human skin and furniture made from bones and skulls. I found out recently that the actors who play Buffalo Bill and Catherine actually dated during the filming of the movie.
5:08 Fun Fact: the sound he makes on his first interaction with the detective, that was unscripted, Hopkins did that all throughout the filming to keep her unsettled to add to the character. The look she has on her face is the actress just genuinely being uncomfortable that he just made that sound.
The coroner Lamar played by Tracey Walter is an excellent character actor with a long career - I recognized him from Conan the Destroyer as Conan's sidekick.
This is a good start to horror movies because this isn't really "scary", but it is definitely a phycological thriller. Both Anthony Hopkins, and Jodie Foster are so good in this movie. 👍🏼
My favorite movie. At first, it was some throwaway January release. Months of seeing it every weekend changed that view. At the time, I called it an 'ironic love story.'
"The World's Fastest Indian" is a great movie starring Anthony Hopkins based on the true story of a New Zealander who wants to take his old, souped up motorcycle to Bonneville Salt Flats.
Interesting fact about this movie: it is one of three movies to have won the top five Oscar categories( Best picture, director, actor, actress and screenplay).
Sir Anthony Hopkins won an Oscar for his performance as Dr. Lecter with less than TWENTY MINUTES of screentime.

Watch the Groot shorts on Disney plus that will pick you up. Each time Anthony Hopkins takes the stage it's a Masterclass in acting:)
This is one of only three movies to win the five major (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor, and Best Actress) Academy Awards.
The other two are (1938) It Happened One Night, and (1975) One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.
My favorite part was Addie's excitement in the opening to watch this movie LOL
Hannibal! Oden! Anthony Hopkins won an OSCAR for this! 🏆
The most compelling aspect of this film is that Lecter is sincerely trying to help Clarice with her childhood trauma.
Agreed.
Poorly edited reactions annoy me something terrible.
I was literally watching another reaction of this very movie when I got the notification for this one😂
(I also watched it for the first time last week)
I really love your reaction.
You did great!!! You should watch “Red Dragon” very underrated prequel.
Amazing! thanks for sharing this, and going way way outside your comfort zone for us!
You're fast becoming my favourite RUclips channel. Your reactions are excellent, and this is up there with the best on your channel. Keep up the fantastic work.
GLAD YOU ENJOYED IT !!!!!!
Hopkins trained not to blink when he read his lines to add to the "creepyness", so he seldom blinks as Lector if you watch him in scenes in the movie
"Hello Clarice" seems just all the more menacing when Sir Anthony Hopkins says it. :)
Oh my God, Addie, I so love your innocence. Sir Anthony Hopkins is an accredited actor, director, and stage performer. While it's still the Halloween season you should watch him in "The Wolfman."
Good Job Addie! Your a trooper! YOU GO GIRL!!!
Great job Addie! This is my favorite reaction from you so far. I really enjoyed watching you react to this classic. Keep up the great work.
If you almost get a mother flubberand mother frickin out of Addie you know this movie worked her nerves. Chapeau to her for making it through
yep in deed
One of my all time favorite roles he’s ever done was in the first two seasons of Westworld .. great show for you to check out
"It's a trap...it's a mothereffing trap" had me in stitches
LOL. Very entertaining video. Love that when you finsihed the movie after every other sentence you had to say "I wont have to see it again"
My favorite reaction from you yet! To see you out of your comfort zone was so fulfilling. I think I’ll have some fava beans and a nice Chianti now *slurps in deliciousness*
One I think you'll really like is a classic haunting movie called 'The Others".
Not exactly horror but it'll keep you spooked out throughout. Great movie with Nicole kidman
This has to be the best reaction to this movie so far!! Brilliant 🙂
Instant thumbs up! Always happy to see reactions to this movie. Perfect cast, perfect script, perfect directing, definitely in my top ten 🤩
Fantastic reaction video Addie 🏆 ❤ 🎥
When Starling was in the basement searching for the killer, I think that's the only time I heard you swear 😆 LOL
Anthony Hopkins is one of the legends of cinema .... He was remarkable in the series "Westworld".... It's four seasons and I highly recommend you do reactions to it.... The cast of actors are absolutely outstanding.
I always appreciate when non scary movie people watch scary movies. Your discomfort is our entertainment.
They filmed a big part of the ending of this film literally right down the road from where I live.
Love you sweet summer child ❤️🤗.
aww bless you! You had me laughing for real all the way through!!
Well Done Addie!!! Big applause for getting through the film.
Yessssss!!! My favorite movie from a technical point. I love it so mich
The sequel novel is so disturbing that Jodie Foster refused to be cast in the movie made from it, so the producers got Julianne Moore instead.
Such a shame she refused it would've made it so much better.
I'd read the book before seeing this and I was still on the edge of my seat when seeing it in the theater.
Seeing this as a kid is where my fear of moths comes from
I have watched this movie over and over again. Only recently I read the book. That made me appreciate the movie even more.
Right away, great intro!!! I approach movies the same way!
Great review. Thank you 💯
"That didn't go too bad" Miggs enters the chat. "Don't say anything weird" Love your suit. Great moments in bad timing.😂
Sir Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster were perfect casting for this movie.
5:08 Fun Fact: the sound he makes on his first interaction with the detective, that was unscripted, Hopkins did that all throughout the filming to keep her unsettled to add to the character. The look she has on her face is the actress just genuinely being uncomfortable that he just made that sound.
Well done Addie! Now that you have seen this classic you should definitely watch 'The Shining.' I am sure everyone here would love to see that.
The coroner Lamar played by Tracey Walter is an excellent character actor with a long career - I recognized him from Conan the Destroyer as Conan's sidekick.
And the Buffalo Bill actor went on to play Captain Leland Stottlemeyer in the tv show “Monk.”
It's the first time i hear you swear !!! Very funny your reactions to suspence / thriller !!
"The World's Fastest Indian" is a great movie starring Anthony Hopkins based on the true story of a New Zealander who wants to take his old, souped up motorcycle to Bonneville Salt Flats.
Definitely an amazing movie
Interesting fact about this movie: it is one of three movies to have won the top five Oscar categories( Best picture, director, actor, actress and screenplay).
