I came across this video totally randomly (from the short version) and I know nothing about Talk Talk, Mark Hollis or James Marsh but this was lovely to watch even so, fascinating to hear about an artist’s ideas and process and how it evolved! I love James’s style, and how it so subtly nods towards the subject matter
Ive been admiring James Marshes art work ever since I borrowed my brothers LP of its my life extended play single album years ago. Seeing the unique design with the puzzle piece of the other painting, floating around in the other world with the beutiful color pallet mesmerized me. I believe it's a zoomed in section of the larger picture from the it's my life album.
Very interesting. I hav always been wondering about the author of the covers forTalk Talk. Actually, a more detailed discussion of particular covers would be even more fascinating, I suppose. Thanks, and greetings from Poland.
I see it differently: the covers add to the music, an extra dimension and depth. Especially with the later albums I think there is a synergy between the sounds and the cover images. Besides that I don't know if music can ever be truly conveyed by a cover. Perhaps it can help in placing it in a specific genre using certain cliches (like metal or hip hop covers do) but besides that it is aesthetics and marketing.

Colour of Spring, Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock covers are iconic masterpieces. What a legend. Thankyou for this description.
Wonderful work!!! Great artist.
James is a great guy
Gorgeous and memorable covers. Incredible records.
Couldn't agree more!
@@Rocket88 I'm very grateful to own a first press version of this book 🙏
@@memopinzon That is great to hear. Enjoy.
That was great, James!
I love TALK TALK
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it.
James was far less known over the decades than say Storm and other endless self promoters, but his covers would grab you instantly.

the problem is that the covers do not really convey the music.
