Such a great song, and maybe one of the most-played songs on Easy Listening radio in the late 70s. For more great Lionel-led songs, try "Three Times a Lady", "Still", "Oh No", or "Old Fashion Love". You also might consider doing "Nightshift", their tribute to the legend and legacy of Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson (which they recorded after Lionel left the group to go solo). OR.... if you want to get more into Lionel's solo stuff (you've only done "Hello" so far), you can do "Endless Love" (a truly magnficient duet with Diana Ross), "Truly", "You Are", "My Love", "All Night Long", or "Say You, Say Me". Thanks for reacting!
This song will forever remind me of what it was like to sit in the back of My father's old car in the 70's listening to the radio and not wanting to get out until the whole song was over.
Can A song be perfect? "Easy" comes as close as any song I've ever heard. Just a beautiful ballad by Lionel and the Commodores. "Still" , "Sail On" and who can forget "Three Times a Lady" are time stamped into my memory for eternity and made Lionel a legend.
"Zoom" is my favorite Commodores song. Written by Lionel and bass player Ronald LaPread in memory of Ron's wife who passed away after a long battle with cancer. It's not a sad song. It's an optimistic song of hope.
"Three Times a Lady" is THE Commodores/Lionel Richie masterpiece. White radio, black radio, disco radio, pop radio, even country radio - you name it - that song was inescapable in summer 1978. Be sure to listen to the long (studio) version of the song, it carries so much more emotional resonance.
That's guitar solo is (at least partially) the sound you get when running the guitar directly into the recording console and cranking up the gain knob, so it gets crunchy and has lots of high end (as opposed to the usual method of recording the guitarists amp with a microphone). This track might actually be a blend of the direct to console signal with a mic'd amp (maybe running through a fuzz pedal too).
As hard as it is for me to imagine you never having heard it before, I recommend "Endless Love" as others have. Lionel Richie and Diana Ross produced one of the greatest, if not the greatest, pop music duets of all time. Great music for a reaction and a song that I think is going to remain significant and remembered for many decades to come.
Jay and Amber another GREAT song by Lionel Richie is “Say You, Say Me”, from the movie “White Nights”. The movie is amazing too!!! This song won an Academy Award in 1986. Hope you guys react to this beautiful song!!! You will ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ it!!!!!
I was in the concert choir in high school and we use to jam this one out a lot. Sounds awesome with a full choir. I'm also a guitarist and this is probably the first solo I learned on my own on guitar. It's also the only song I know how to play on the piano.
The Commodores have it all.Excellent writing,Vocals ,Great musicians.Lionel is such a wonderful vocalist and that piano, brilliant."Zoom" and "Sweet Love", two of my favorites. Check out "Running with the Night".
5:00 the guitar sound is from a type of guitar effect known as a "fuzz pedal". Electric guitarists can put electronic devices between the guitar and the amplifier to modify the signal in different ways, called "pedals" or "stomp boxes". There's dozens of different kinds of effects you can put in your signal chain, like chorus, echo, phaser, overdrive, Wah, compression, etc. This one is a classic "fuzz pedal" though.
"Easy" peaked @ #4 on the Billboard Pop chart & #1 on the R&B chart (1 week) in 1977. It was their 7th single to chart Pop Hot 100 and the 3rd to reach the Top 10. Over their career, The Commodores will chart 25 singles on the Pop chart, reaching the Top 10 ten times including 2 #1s between 1974 - 1986. On the R&B chart, the Commodores place 29 singles, 16 in the Top 10 including 7 #1s between 1974 - 1988.
HEY, you two. These men were so darn GOOD. I do not want to argue. But this is Lionel;'s song. Please note that Lionel wrote Lady, then gave it to Kenny Rodgers. What can I say other than the man is a MASTER of his craft. These guys could construct a beautiful song with intricate arrangements.
So my dad has an old record player and speakers that all’s at Easy like Sunday Morning. When I asked him why he told me that while he was in the army in 70s, that was the nickname he was given while in Germany, so this song will always think of him! In a strange twist, my father gave me a name (my real name) that actually translates in English to “easy/ easy-going” so I’m kind of named after him and this song! Great reaction as always guys!!
I've lived in Alabama my whole life and been a country musician my whole life and Easy is one of my all time favorite songs. Lionel was born and raised in Tuskegee and the Commodores were formed at Tuskegee Institute. They were basically a funk band but Lionel took them in more of a pop/country direction. Songs like Sail On, Stuck On You, Deep River Woman I always thought were country songs. I always thought Lionel should do a country album which he finally did about 15 years ago. On that album he did a very cool version of Easy with Willie Nelson. The horns, the guitar solo and of course Lionel's piano and vocal....Easy is definitely in this country boy's top 5 all-time favorite songs.
HEY ALABAMA. I lived, grew up there. In LA as they say lower Alabama. Lol. My son was 10 years old, saved his allowance and bought the album. Didn't last, he's into heavy metal. However 'he's an excellent lead guitar & A CHRISTIAN. THANK YOU JESUS
I saw them in concert in shreveport la. They were fantastic. Try brick house for a upbeat blast. When he sang easy he played a white baby grand with smoke coming from the stage
Big thumbs up. I love the Commodores music. Their hits, like this one, were hits for a reason. Still, just about every song they produced is gold to me. I was introduced to their music as a kid shortly before Richie went solo, but the music they produced has a timeless quality and I've always enjoyed listening to their music and letting it carry me to a better place.
Amber and Jay, you just can't go wrong with the Commodores! So many hits and great memories. Another one I'd recommend is "Zoom". It holds a special meaning for The Commodores. It was written by Ronald LaPread and Lionel Richie. Ronald LaPread's wife, Cathy, had cancer and he began composing it and she gave him some ideas for the melody and Lionel put the words to it. Cathy passed away before the song was released. I think you'll really enjoy it when you know the meaning behind it.
They had a lot of similar type of laid back, smooth songs like this in the 70s: Easy, Three Times a Lady, Sail On, Just to be Close To You . . . All great songs. If you react to Three Times a Lady, look for the longer version. It has more depth to it.
That album was a requirement for every road trip! If the cassette or 8-track was getting a bit worn, we had to get a new copy before vacation! That, and Gladys Knight and the Pips - Imagination. Yup, my childhood was good!!!
Good choice but they already did "Brick House" back on Sept 14, 2021. Here's the link so you can see it: ruclips.net/video/zBtSNTy_kmA/видео.html I just saw your reply to yourself... I hadn't hit refresh recently and your second reply wasn't showing on my screen... Sorry for my redundancy.
Easy as Sunday Morning, it's a great pick up line on Saturday Nite. This was all ways one of the last songs of the nite at the dance clubs. Everybody likes slow dancing music. This was a huge hit for them. They were super versital, their music was everywhere, kkinda miss that. Thanks again.
Did you know Lionel wasn't the original lead singer? The original lead was the drummer, Walter Orange, who you've already heard on "Brick House" -- he also did a great lead on their post-Lionel ballad "Only You." He and Lionel shared lead on the next song you should react to, "Just to Be Close to You." Play the long version and you get to hear Lionel preach!
I can't listen to this song, even at work, the grocery store.. wherever.. without letting out an "oooooh!" at 4:36: even if it makes people stop and look at me, I don't care.. It's my favorite part of the song.
Do check out the Commodores' "Just to Be Close to You," and "This is Your Life," and on the funky side, "Slippery When Wet," "I Feel Sanctified," and "Brick House." Also, the Commodores after Lionel Richie left to go solo, "Night Shift," their tribute to Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson.
Always fantastic song. The Commodores were a huge hit growing up and regularly played in the house. I would recommend, listening to some of more fabulous songs, "Zoom," and" Sweet Love", you will absolutely enjoy them.
I love this song! Lionel Ritchie is the man. The whole band are great too. Faith No More did an excellent cover of this song. I see that many people have suggested other Commodore greats in the comments so I would like to suggest a couple of Lionel's songs that I haven't seen suggested: Running With The Night and Say You, Say Me which has some very inspirational lyrics.
This song made me a fan of The Commodores when it came out (I was four) and it's still an amazing song. Definitely check out: "Three Times A Lady", "Still ", "Zoom", "Oh No", and "Just To Be Close To You".
The guitarist is Thomas McClary. The sound he gets during the solo is a combination of a compression and fuzz pedal mixed through a oscillator. If you watch closely, you can see him stomp the pedal when the solo is over.
This is an amazing, perfect song. So good! Nothing has changed, BTW. "Everybody wants me to be what they want me to be. I want to be free to know the things I do are right. I want to be free, just me."
This was one of the well-played albums in my collection as a 12 year-old. The album this song is from called "Commodores" also had the songs "Brick House" and "Zoom", which are great as well. I adored the Commodores so much.
@@kellyreiterman I'm the kid in the family everyone dumped their 50s, 60s, and 70s records on in the 80s and 90s. I love all my uncles, aunts, and cousins who gave me their music. Including the 8-tracks. It enriched my childhood in a way I've only really been able to appreciate fully as an adult.
@@merlball8520 Never let those records go! Thankfully, I have all my my parents' 45s from the 1950s. There are a good number of them in these little 45 album books with my mother's handwriting listing each song and artist. Now that both of my parents have passed, these mean even more to have.
I recall reading in an interview that Easy was their first attempt at crossing over. The slide guitar was a dead give away. I couldn’t tell at the time because it was a massive hit on soul stations. It has become my favorite over time.
I love the Commodores and this is one of my favorite songs by them! Lionel Richie doesn’t get enough credit for his amazing songwriting and musical genius!❤️❤️
Awesome reaction!, I was lucky enough to see the Commodores live, back in the day, they where Awesome!. Heard them play this song ( fantastic performance! ). The crowd went nuts when they played "Zoom", I recommend "Zoom" for your next Commodore reaction, ( if there's any ). Thank you, Peace!
I think of "Not once...Not twice, but three times a lady", when they do their introduction to their videos. When I think of that song, I think of Newman singing it.
This song just melts the tension off me. A buddy of mine once said "I didn't realize Lionel Ritchie was in the Commodores!", I said "C'mon, that's easy...easy like Sunday morning" lol.
I really like the song "Oh No" that Lionel did back in the early eighties. I don't think it's as very well known as the others and I think it was whenever he started his solo career, I'm not sure if the commodores are backing him or not, But this is always been a favorite of mine that he did, If you can ever get around to that would be awesome 🙂
This song is AMAZING, Lionel Richie is an all time great. There is an ASTONISHINGLY good cover of this track by early 90s metal band Faith No More. I know a metal band cover sounds like a hideous idea but trust me, it is INCREDIBLE! My favourite version of the song to be honest you should check it out, that would be my way of making somebody smile today 😃
@@paulsmith2516 Don't get me wrong, I love the FNM cover and the video too, but the second verse has lyrics that add so much to the song. Have asked my son to play Easy at my funeral - no time soon, I hope! He asked which version. I said Commodores of course!
"Easy" !!! My favorite song from them. You could say easily my #1. I love the simplistic sounds of all the instruments. So artistic and doesn't rely on "gymnastics" for lack of a better word.
"Still" is awesome. "Oh No" was brutal in it's sincerity. Many people forget that tune and it was hugely popular. Thanks to the movie "Last American Virgin" for making it aware to everybody!
OMG, that "friend" of his was horrible! Also, what was Karen thinking? Kinda makes you mad at the end. LOL! Both of those songs are awesome, and I hope they listen to the FULL version of "Still." The radio edit ruins it. Yeah, "Just Once" by James Ingram was one of my requests. That song is amazing as well!!!
What a great song!! You can't help but want to get into your favourite chair, grab a chilled drink and just float on air!!! Check out more of his solo stuff like 'Dancing on the ceiling'
Faith No More does a great cover of this song. Edited to say I now see many people commented the same thing but I'll add Mike Patton is the greatest vocalist in the industry.
I sometimes fell like "just to be Close to you" is a forgotten gem. It is my personal favorite Commodores' tune (though "Still" is incredible). Amber would love both!
@@fligler Never been to Durban, but for those Americans who are not aware, South Africa is a beautiful place - people, weather, vistas, wildlife, culture, wine, food…If you haven’t been, something magical to consider!
Yes, Kendra. Folks are recommending some great songs, but they're the obvious ones. "Just To Be Close To You" and "Zoom" are special songs. I hope they react to them.
One of my favorite songs by them... more people now a days need to be Easy. Please check out Switch - There'll Never Be.. the band, the falsetto... and the groove. Too good.
This is my favorite song by the Commodores. Those lyrics…”easy like Sunday morning” and “everybody wants me to be what they want me to be”. Genius. Thanks for your reaction.
Lionel Ritchie is a legend, he really is, SO many hits, within The Commodores and as a solo artist...what a writer, too!
One of the best ever !!! While with the commodore this was my favorite, Brick House was also very good, made you want to dance !!!
He is so legendary that people misspell Richie.
Yes I agree 👍💯
THIS is why the 70s RULE Its the music ,,
He's a genius. As I've said before, the man THINKS in the language of music.

@5:15 on your reel, that guitar sound is made by a “Fuzz” pedal. A piece of gear a guitarist uses to make that sizzle sound.
Check out "Night Shift" it was one of their hits after Lionel left the commodores. Awesome video, really shows the depth of the groups talent.

Ritchie did a killer duet with Diana Ross “Endless Love”.
I can't think of a single pop music duet that's better. "Endless Love" was a distinctly special recording in pop music history.
I remember I was in first grade when I bought the 45 single and it went to No 1 on American Top 40!

All time classic soul ballad. Lionel’s rich, mellow voice is perfect for this song, and that guitar solo is fire.

They started out as a funk band. Listen to "Too Hot To Stop", "Love Gets Slippery When It's Wet", "Look What You Done To Me".
Great song! "Three Times A Lady" is another smooth hit. Lionel's "Truly" is amazing. You might consider "Suddenly" by Billy Ocean as well.
Three Times a Lady! Fits perfectly behind Easy. Thanks for your reaction to this.
I think of "Not once...Not twice, but three times a lady", when they do their introduction to their videos.
When I think of that song, I think of Newman singing it.
One of my favorites from them. The guitar solo is just fire!! You can hear the soul and how the guitar is pouring it's soul. Classic.
This song just melts the tension off me. A buddy of mine once said "I didn't realize Lionel Ritchie was in the Commodores!", I said "C'mon, that's easy...easy like Sunday morning" lol.
Oh dear🧀😄
Wow 🤩 what a great video, beautiful memories, all the music from “The Commodores” is awesome 👏🏻🎼❤️
My absolute favourite of all Lionel Ritchie's songs. I always stop and close my eyes when listening.
Yes, the Faith No More cover is great. My only beef - they left out the second verse!
@@terrilgeorge7255 Yeah, I never understood that but doesn't take away from it for me.
@@paulsmith2516 Don't get me wrong, I love the FNM cover and the video too, but the second verse has lyrics that add so much to the song. Have asked my son to play Easy at my funeral - no time soon, I hope! He asked which version. I said Commodores of course!
Based on this comment I just popped out to check the FNM cover…nice!
You guys will love "Just to be Close to You" by the Commodores. I grew up with this music -- love it so much❣❣❣
Commodores has a song called "Captain Quickdraw", which was based on the CB radio/trucker craze during the 1970s.
That one is unlike anything else they’ve done. I’d even say strange, but kinda catchy.
Yes, Last American Virgin! With Gary driving away in tears to James Ingram's "Just Once".
Two classics OhNo! Last American Virgin, a cult classic!
Last America Virgin had to be the best teen-sex-coming of age movies of the 80s - that ending...
CARMELA!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You should check out "Zoom", "Fancy Dancer", "Three Times a Lady", "Oh No" and "Sweet Love" by the Commodores.
What a great song!!
You can't help but want to get into your favourite chair, grab a chilled drink and just float on air!!!
Check out more of his solo stuff like 'Dancing on the ceiling'
Love the Commodores all their music is so good! ✌❤🎶
Youve got to hear Faith No More do the cover of this song. Its great.
OMG I’ve been waiting so long for you to listen to this song. One of the best ever. So smooth.
Faith No More does a great cover of this song.
Edited to say I now see many people commented the same thing but I'll add Mike Patton is the greatest vocalist in the industry.
I just checked the comments to make sure someone mentioned Faith No More.
"Mike Patton is the greatest vocalist in the industry" You know what they say about opinions.
The Commodores are a must in every collection !!!!
Love Lionel Richie as a solo especially Still, All Night Long,Truly,
Lionel's music just makes you feel good, never get tired of listening.
I think "Zoom" and "Just To Be Close To You" should be the next pick from The Commodores.....I agree this is another smooth soul favorite.
I sometimes fell like "just to be Close to you" is a forgotten gem. It is my personal favorite Commodores' tune (though "Still" is incredible). Amber would love both!
yes ZOOM!!!
Zoom takes me back to being 17 in Durban, South Africa.
This was my mom’s favorite Commodores song. I have great memories of my parents slow dancing to this song. ❤️
