  • We have an emergency, we broke an axle on our boat trailer and we have to replace it quick. We show you how we replaced this axle in just a couple hours. Lucky for us we found a store that had a replacement axle just minutes from our house. After getting the axle welded to fit, we install it in lightening speed and get the boat out to another charter. My son Elijah learns technical tips and tricks to fix his stuff in the future. Father and son time outside is what I enjoy most with my boys.

    Fishing Charter captain here, just bent an axle and a rim at a sketchy boat ramp, I feel your pain. Looking forward to pulling hubs and axle up here in Tennessee in Late January cold (yeah) let alone the cost of axles these days. Folks just don't appreciate how much work and cost is involved in operating a charter. I need me a good 15 year old helper! Suggestion, use a piece of 2x4 when hammering on the trailer grease caps, it will not bend them and the force is even instead of at a single point. Otherwise, the methods you used were great, safe, not sketchy.

    Here's an early welcome home. I live in Tulsa but I own a place at Tenkiller. I love that lake even if it was 32" above normal this Spring. Over the last 45 years, I've fished all of the lakes around NE Ok. I use to hunt Skiatook Lake area before it was a lake and after they filled it, had a blast fishing there.

      WOW, I would love to meet up with you at some point when I get back to Oklahoma and pick your brain about the area. The west side of Tulsa is new to me but I know all about Fort Gibson Lake. I grew up there. Thanks for the early welcome. Be there soon. Maybe we can get together and catch some crappie together.

    You only needed to replace a Spindle, not the entire Axle. Cut it off at the broken weld and weld or have a new one welded on.

      Put jack and a large piece of wood under frame on one side and raise it up and place stand under the frame. Repeat on other side.

    I have a bad spindle , So If I get the same exact Axel for my boat it’s really just the bolts and brackets ?

    • @TeamTateOutdoors

      More than likely but I did take mine to a welder to get the tabs welded on. There are little square plates welded to the axles that the springs little nipple drops into. You wanna check and make sure of that. But if you take the old axle and the new axle to a welder they can get you fixed up. But yes it’s that easy.

    • @TeamTateOutdoors
      @TeamTateOutdoors  3 месяца назад

      I have also heard of some really good welders that can weld a new spring ndle on to your old axle but worse case scenario you can replace whole axle.

    • @patrickcotter945

      Interesting ,
      I was under the impression the New axels would come with those brackets already mounted on .

    • @patrickcotter945

      I was reading this on a parts web site
      “ Some of our Painted Steel Trailer Axles come with Pre-Mounted Spring Seats for specific measurements. The Axles listed without pre-mounted spring seats will include the spring seats for you, the customer to weld to your specific measurements. It is very important that you do not weld your spring seats outside the range listed. Using an axle to long may cause a leverage issue, leading to pre-mature bending or damaging to the ends of the axle. An axle that is to short will cause the tires to rub on the frame of the trailer.”

    Good job but I don't think the bearing nuts are tight enough without a little bit more preload and then spin it and add a touch and you won't have any lose bearings

      If you go back through the video we replace every bolt exactly as it was removed so if you can reverse engineer what we did you will have the answer on how to unscrew stall it. Just do what we did in reverse. It’s all up close and detailed, the install is anyways. Sorry we didn’t film the removal. Hope it helps.
