When welding try moving in a lower case e movement. It comes out really nice like that turn the welder down just a tad, you want that sweet buzz sound not the crackle as the crackle may leave the weld to porous. Just a tip, hope you don't mind. Cool vid
How cost effective is this to have someone do this vs replacing the whole axle. I understand if this is an expensive axle. Just curious. I just grabbed a trailer in which the spindle was cut off. seeing this video made me think about it after researching about spindles. Never really realized this was possible to replace as you did here.
Hi Wendell , it does depend on the axle as far as repair to new. It is well worth the savings if the axle is a custom axle and if you are able to do most of the work your self. The cost of replacing the spindle is usually half the cost of a axle.
Thanks . I’m A welder fabricator and I have a customer who’s looking at me to do this job for her . After watching this video it seems kinda intimidating for someone who don’t work on axles, mine has welds on both ends of the spindle ?
@@freightpeddler sorry for not showing it hopefully I can do another and just show to square up the spindle , again thank you for your comment and support.
Thanks for sharing sir. Great info. This music alone is awesome

good video Mike.
Axle stub is a press fit for a reason.
I wouldn't grind the inside of the hole, just the outer edge where the weld was. You want the tightest fit you can get with the spindle.
Nice Job Mike but I think I would have put some fire cloth on the spindle to keep the slag from sticking...save from having to grind off later.
Was gonna say it needs protection even if it's just some tape to keep the the BB s off
You need to protect the spindle surfaces from the weld process, there is an arc mark right where the grease seal will be
Thanks for sharing 👍👌
Nice weld work.
Very good job, how much does the job come out?
How much of a job is this compared to getting a whole new axle? Is it cost effective? Or is it only worth it if you can do it yourself?

Some companies will weld both sides , on this particular axle I had to weld just the one end. If both sides are welded it should be done the same.
What method did you use to square up the spindle?
Used two angle gauges and laser line
@@2riversboatworks318 Did that process gat videoed? woul like to see it.
@@anthonywilliams9937 no I did not sorry but I can do one in the near future
@@2riversboatworks318 I think squaring the spindle was my most important question but it was totally not in the video. Otherwise nice

I hate the idea of cutting a brand new part to fit. Why can't the whole thing be used? How much of a difference is there?
wtf is a jiffy marker?😂😂😂😂j/k great video btw
I'm assuming it's worth on a torsion axle but if you have a leaf spring axle don't waste your time and just buy a new one for $175
