  • I demonstrate how to replace trailer wheel bearings from start to finish. I go over how to check for damage, how to properly set up wheel bearing play, How to Repack wheel bearings, and how to properly adjust wheel bearings safely. I show you how to replace your wheel seal and go over how to clean and inspect your bearings.
Hey guys I lost one of my outside hub seal because apparently it fell off. there was a bunch of road grim in the grease and I knew I was going to have to pull the hub off and clean out all the bearings and races to make sure they wouldn't fail. figured I would make a video because I've done many bearings and figures it could help a fellow DIY guy when trying to maintain his trailer or fifth wheel.
If you guys have any questions feel free to drop a comment and I'll answer as best I can!
I hope you guys liked the video and maybe even learned a thing or too!

The correct way to set up the bearings i.e. have the correct play is to take a broad flat screwdriver and placing it between the hub bore and the perimeter of the washer behind the caste nut. When rotating the screwdriver the washer must be able to move perpendicular to the shaft under castle nut! The movement must free but not loose! As you say there must be minimal play felt. Do a test drive, shortly stop and feel the hub for temperature level, it should remain cold! Last week I applied this routine, drove 2000km and all was perfect!

I thought my bearings were shot on my tandem axle trailer. The rim had a bit of play when shaking it a bit. Took the rim off. Removed the dust cover.. found the locking nut was more loose than it should have been. Tightened it snug so the hub could still turn freely, and bam. Good to go!

Is someone's never replaced the bearing and they came to your video to watch it you didn't replace the raise because you're not actually replacing the bearing so they will be confused about that.

Hey if my axle hub feels stiffer then before but I have the wheel set to where it has the right amount of play, is that due to the electric drum brake needed to be adjusted or am I still tightened too tight on the nut ?

I'd tell my wife to come check this out, then begin akimbo can spraying and barely hit the hub.
