  • Learn how to repack the wheel bearings on a trailer in this video from Boats.net!
John’s trailer has been around since 1986. One way he keeps it rolling along is by repacking the wheel bearings and maintaining the other hub components every year.
In this video, John will walk you through how to repack your trailer bearings. This involves disassembling the hub, using a hand bearing packer to force the old grease out of the bearings and replace it with new grease, and also replace the seals on his hub.
As for the grease, John is using an NLGI class GC-LB grease to repack his wheel bearings, which is a grease rated for chassis and wheel bearing lubrication.

Seems it would be prudent to thoroughly clean and inspect the bearings, races and internals of the hubs with mineral spirits. Hard to see small pits with grease all over everything. I have Dexter Vault hubs which require a totally different procedure and special lube to service. They only need service about every 5 years. The additional seals in this design help prevent water intrusion.

Where do I find the 3 step seal you talked about in the video? My bearing kit number is: Trailer Tech K 3500 EZ. Thanks

My Stratos trailer has stainless wear rings where the seal rides , that’s where your pitting was ! Can you not install wear rings and avoid an axle replacement?

Great video! Question: If I have the bearing buddy with the grease zerk should I have to do this procedure every year or just keep adding grease as needed? Thank you. At the end I did notice you do have the one with the grease zerk. Every year from what I take it. Is the Dexter bearings and seal universal for an EZ loader trailer? Thanks 👍🏻

Why not show how to pack the bearings the old way!

Because… he doesn’t do it the old way. Plenty of videos out there for that.

Why not just use break clean to clean the bearings and then repack the bearings.

Too loose. With the tire on the play or shake will feel like a loose bearing.
