1960 Oliver OC46 Crawler - Will it Run and Drive after Sitting in a Barn for 13 Years?
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 11 сен 2020
- This Oliver OC46-3G crawler had its head gasket replaced and some other work done, then it was stored in a barn for 13 years. The coolant is low and the oil is high. The owner is concerned the head gasket repair has failed. Let's see what we can do!
Part 2: • 1960 Oliver OC46 Crawl... Авто/Мото
Only Wes would think to swap the ol' ball cap for a hard hat before off-loading the Oliver...CLASSIC WES! Hilarious!!! Thanks for all that you do. Keep em coming.
Glad you enjoyed it!
That guy is like a kid with a new toy driving around. Brilliant job Wes, every engine wants to run, it just takes the proper person to breath life into them 👏👏👏👏 You the man!!
Lol - he kept a serious face the whole time, but you could tell her was jumping around like an excited kid inside.
Used to be loads of little crawlers like this in the UK on most farms .
Mostly all scrapped now which is a pity as they make great wee projects that are different from the usual Fergie T10s and 35s.
I love this content too for something different but the car stuff is really interesting , especially the fault finding .

I have an earlier model of this tractor. It has a 4 cylinder flathead Hercules engine, but other than that and the dashboard, it’s pretty much identical. It’s a pretty easy machine to work on. You can have the final drives off in an hour or two. Ours has a dozer blade on the front. Good machine that’s worth fixing for sure. It will pull until it digs a rut a foot deep in hard ground.
I too have two of these old machines, one OC-3 early 50's the other is a 1960 OC-4. the 4 is a basket case now with final drive issues. the 3 did run and drive but now no. been sitting to long. and I am way to disabled to work on it any longer. so If someone want to buy these I will sell. thanks for this video brings back memories.
$50000 in tools and he adjusts the carb with his pocket knife.
Sometimes you need the "right" tool.
@@WatchWesWork That was not an ordinary knife, it's a carb adjusting tool, just $39.95 which Wes has a link to on Amazon. In future video the Mrs. will be doing donuts in the garage. Me thinks the owner and Wes are just a little to big for this size of machine.
@@WatchWesWork Yes,but it"s a swiss pocket knife!
Same scenario with me
I have everything but not "with me" most of the time
One of the best Tool's. It's always with you.
Thanks for all the extra content lately. I know it not only takes time to do the work, but a lot of time to edit it into something watchable. No one on RUclips owes anyone anything, so thanks for the effort.
Well thanks. I had a little extra time so I decided to put a few more videos than usual.
That pto shaft between the legs looks OSHA approved lol
There is a platform. It was removed to work on the transmission.
That's what she said
And no protection between the tracks and legs.
That's what the hard hat is for!
Drive shaft not pto
Those old Olivers are Awesome littld machines...I worked on an old Dozer years ago for a Gentleman and loved every minute of it. LOL. Berween the old stories the old man told and just working on that old iron...Great video that motor runs amazing....
This is the kind of video I love. Working on computer cars is boring. Can't wait for part 2
You said it wanted to run, the owner did a fantastic job on carburetor, I'm looking forward to seeing you put this machine right
Wes, Thanks for including us on this project! It started off interesting and am sure it will continue to be even more so in the upcoming videos! Get the torch and hoist out. It’s gonna be heavy and hard to get those rusty bolts off.
The owner that was driving it seems to be a good guy with excellent machinist skills!
Outstanding
I love heavy duty machine repair.
Worked on engines in the military that were so large you could sit in the cylinder.
I love these old toys. They're well built and can still work after many years!
Looks like a beauty, similar to my Bristol 25
Yes I think it's very similar. Thanks for stopping by!
Marty how did I know i would find you here 😉
I hope you have enough wait on the tongue of that trailer!?!?!?
Grousetrap kk,km
@@WatchWesWork it's all ways them points
I'm pretty pumped for this project. I just love seeing old machinery brought back to life. This one is a winner Wes, be sure to show us all the painful rusty details. Can't wait for the future videos on this!
lets hope its powerful
My, what a pretty trailer deck you got there!
I know!
If you think that trailer deck is nice you should see the 4 6x2 planks I drive my cars onto on my old transport trailer
It matches the seat.
I just replaced the deck on my trailer. If the price of lumber in Illinois has gone up as much as it has here in Alberta, I don't blame you at all for not replacing the deck.
I love the videos like this. It’s awesome to watch something that’s been sitting for a long period come back to life.
Sounds like it's only running on 3 cylinders lol
Har har har!
Nice sound after 13 years 😊
Yes 😊
The little Oliver is just awesome. Thanks for the video.
Fairly easy to work on. Check on the sprockets. I've seen some where people slotted the sprockets. Then all you do pull is the small cover off the outside final cover. Just pull the axle on both sides then the center comes right out.
If not you have to split tracks and pull the sprocket off. Even on these things everything fairly heavy.
Have fun. I have couple of these things. Really strong machines and reliable. Wish some of the new stuff would be as reliable. Only down fall the 3 cylinder motor is strong but finding rod bearings are not readily available except through one person.
Have fun.
Neat info. This is one of the few machines ever tested that will almost pull 100 percent of it's own weight. That's saying alot.
I just love these little dozers. I have confidence you will have her running in no time. Sure hope things are not so rusty other things break etc. Looking forward to the next video. Thanks for sharing. This is a very big job.
I am very happy you went back to being a mechanomancer! I love your bring it back from death videos.
My father bought the same model crawler with a doser blade. His had a shuttle shift trans between the clutch and trans.
He rebuilt the engine, lots of torque. My brother still has the machine. The small track rollers had Acme flat head grease fittings.
They took 90 weight oil and were changed over to grease. HE made track pins and replaced them.
It has done a lot of work since.
That is a familiar sound.
Thanks
This machine has the reversing box as well. He would like to swap it for the low speed box.
I am really looking forward to this project. It looks to be a lot of work on your end, which means some really great content for us. Thanks for sharing and taking the time to document it for us.
Love these “will it run?” videos.
I like how you used the Victorinox to adjust the idle screw. Cool video
I'm thinking you made someone very happy.great job on getting it running again.
Old #22 is worth saving. That little guy is so cool. Throw it on a tripod and let's get to work Doctor :)
Hahahaha what's with the helmet Wes??! ...🤣... thanks, it again was a pleasure to watch you work Wes🛠👍
Safety first!
You made that old farmer so happy! Can't wait to see this thing going again. Youre building quite a reputation at your new place
Came back to watch this playlist. Its the series that i found your channel. Still love the little crawlers. Great job as always!!!
I sang the "Shake Hands With Danger" song in my head this whole episode.
Here you go..
ruclips.net/video/Mmrs9GYkbqg/видео.html
now they call me three finger joe
@@mortglickman3217 The owner was about to be three toe joe with his feet gingerly hanging out next to the tracks.
Whew. Yeah, so many things just waiting to grab you and pull in to the grinder. Might be related to "Kill Dozer" 😉
The real danger is the missing driver safety cabin. If this thing tilts, it will be fatal.
Wes: outstanding in the field, without a battery.
Love your videos. One day you are Eric from SMA, next day Warren from Western Truck & Tractor. I ran one of those 3cyl Oliver's back in 1974 cleaning and smoothing the beach for a beach club on Long Island. It was a little different, 4 speed trans with reverse plus a forward reverse shuttle box between the trans and driveshaft. I learned a lot about wrenching that summer.
It's just nuts and bolts. This machine has the 4 speed and the reverse box. The lever is missing from the reverse box.
Ship it to New Zealand and let Marty T tear it all apart. That kind of stuff is his specialty. lol. Seriously though looking forward to your documentation of the clutch/differential assembly if you decide to take all of that on.
I like all of Mart T's videos, but he ain't gettin this crawler 😁
i dunno, he didn't fix that tractor in the woods on the island. lol
Theres one of these in nz with a datsun 1200 engine
@@tortron From A 120Y ? or older
@@chrisgreig5628 i had it a bit wrong, its a 50s Oliver HG, it had a ford consul engine in it and then a datsun A15. Looks like it went in with minimal fab work
0:35 With a Walmart battery it has to start. Lol.
1:55 That is a classic tractor seat. C clamps are like 50 years old, maybe more.
G,day from Aust another great video ,we learn a lot form your videos love old crawler/dozers any size, good job staysafe and well...
Thanks 👍
I'm impressed and gladdened that he's willing to pay you to fix this thing!
You lucky guy ,you, that crawler looks like a lot of fun!would look nice restored not to mention potentially very useful, I liked it when you put on your yellow hard hat- great pic to autograph LOL!
Thanks 👍
81 thousand subscribers an only 4.4 thousand likes, like what the hell do these people want? I should think or like to think this one should get some more likes going as this is the stuff that I want. The electrical stuff you do always gets my attention but this is full on no nodding off watch it all good stuff. I enjoy seeing old stuff live again. It has gone past its usefulness so unless you slow it down, I would put a brush hog behind it and go for it as it is so fast that it beats all the competition for travel. I think the big tanks of oxygen and use propane for a rosebud to heat stuff up and get it off in one piece. Not much in the way so it should be easier than say a bobcat with all its phony stuff that makes them work. Good luck Wes
That crawler wanted to stay on your factory fresh trailer. (I've seen much, much worse.) Great job getting it running. Looking forward to the next one.
Thanks 👍
Well Done. This is GREAT STUFF. I can't wait for the next episode.
This is absolutely fascinating. I have never heard of these machines before, and I always love learning something new.
Hey, not everything can be fixed up and state-of-the-art once, or ever - the customers couldn't afford the prices you'd need to charge them to pay for it. I appreciate the trailer deck, and have seen (and used) much worse. Gotta use what you got.
Great content.
Seems like you guys were having too much fun with this one. Gotta love that little thing.
Love these machines (and any old equipment). Thanks for the video. Looking forward to the next.
Love to watch theese kind of jobs, looking forward to part 2.
I think I have seen all the videos you have posted, great channel!
Wow have u got a long job on there good luck with it can't wait to see part 2 or even 3 nice change fron cars etc 👍
I don’t know why, but I want one !
Me too, I'm torn. The wife would kill me, but the kids would love me.
Me too, I'm torn. The wife would kill me, but the kids would love me.
It’s because it’s fun!
You want one cause it’s a old heavy duty piece of machinery, a baby tank, must have a lot of torque for its size
I just want to build an airsoft tank out of it
fired up like it was driven yesterday. waiting for part 2allready.
Love this old stuff as I am an old man also glad we have both kinds of people to fix us thanks for sharing love the video looking for the rest

Wes, I love it when you bring old iron back to life. I hope we'll see that dragline sometime again. Keep that old iron comin!
BTW I love your trailer deck!
Someday.
Love the Corgi and also your Pointer! We have two Pembroke Corgis at home and can't imagine life without dogs. That crawler is a gem and I look forward to its rejuvenation!
I never knew how much fun a dog could be till I got this Corgi. Smart, but a bit sassy sometimes .
What a cool little machine!
Boy that ole 3 cylinder sounds awesome 🤟
It’s always fun to see grown men laugh like kids whenever they get something to run. We all do it.
No smoke was the first thing I noticed too. Runs smooth. Yes. That is amazing. 👍
Awesome little crawler, look forward to more.
She is a beauty !!!
Hello from the uk Wes. Love your content.
Hey, thanks!
That's Character right there. You can't beat an old piece of handcrafted iron!! They want to run and work forever.
Park a 2020 tractor for 13+yrs. I guarantee it will never run start like this old Oliver
Aww its a baby dozer!! Engine sounds and runs great, Cant wait for the next instalment!! Awesome video!
Nothing like the sound of those old tractor engines.
I used to have one with the 6cyl Hercules engine. Join the FB group for them. Tons of knowledgeable people there.
i really enjoy the "back to the basics" testing you always put into your projects. Its the best troubleshooting method you can use fine the issues right away. "Spark, Fuel & Air". Another great video! Keep them coming!
I just bought an old truck for cheap because the owner thought it blew a head gasket when he checked the oil. They didn't want to deal with it. If he would have smelled the dipsitck, he would have known it was gas, not coolant in the oil. After a few oil drains and carb work she was good to go. This is what I love about your channel, you use all of your senses to help you diagnose any issues. Keep up the good work!
I always enjoyed working on heavy equipment more than passenger vehicles. I just found the work more satisfying and fun.
When you get to work on a variety of machines I think it makes work much more interesting.
Rock on Wes, and Hello Mrs.Wes!
Right on!
At 11:50 I was afraid that battery was going to get run over.
I believe that was the battery charger and, a mug of coffee in the danger zone!
@@hatfez It was the old battery.
@@bluegrallis What about the coffee? Oh, the humanity!
@@hatfez I was too busy playing with Scoopy to worry about drinking my coffee anyway 😁😁 😎👍
Can’t wait for the next one. Excellent job.
Ol' #22 making a comeback! Going to be a good series with some learning involved.
That three cylinder runs better than the one in my ex girlfriend’s Geo Metro back in the 90’s.
I think we know why the steering quit working: It's got a fram engine oil filter
That's a great running machine! Looking forward to the future videos.
Look forward to watching you work on this one Wes.
You have found another treasure 👍 Wes doesn't bore us with "rusty bolt" removals? With that said - part two should be exciting.
Boy, just wait until Mustie sees your fuel tank / fuel pump get up!! lol
I was thinking same thing you could sell those for nice profit
@@flir67man84 I was thinking theres a fella who a lot of field starts. Smart work Wes, but remember the Battery and get a winch for the trailor.
Terrific little crawler. Looking forward to checking out your tear down.
Wish I could still do this stuff. Used to love it. Be watching. 👍
Jessie Duke gets his crawler going again. 🤣
Years ago, bout 1972, a guy said I looked like Gregg Allman. These days, I consider Jesse Duke as a compliment 😎

Maybe reach out to Squatch 243 he works on older Cats, he might have some ideas.
Another great channel
I’m looking forward to this project Wes.
Great job guys, Nice and even running for 13 years down the track, great machines will go for ever.
Thank you for showing us am impressed take a bow lads.
Nice piece of equipment Wes looking forward to see this video thanks
What’s wrong with that trailer deck I’ve got two that look just like that lol nice job Wes
18:10 so your saying another project. Winch plate and winch for the trailer!
Hi, can't wait, Great stuff Wes, thanks.
You have a huge job ahead. It will be very cool watching you make it right again.
Reminds me of my grandfather's Cletrac. He used it on the steep hills of a Pennsylvania dairy farm that would roll a regular tractor. I learned most of my cuss words helping him work on that monster. Good luck in your adventure.
I think Oliver bought out the Cletrac (short for Cleveland Tractor)
I know jack-sh*t about these things, but that rearend reminds me of, basically, a non-posi diff with two independently actuated brake pads. Looks like the left-side pad is barely moving in comparison to the right. It also looks (maybe) like someone welded on the adjuster nut. When you pull the lever, it's not clamping down enough to transfer power.
The brakes are not the issue. At least I don't think so. You can hear it pull the engine down when I pull the brake lever.
@@WatchWesWork Seems like the old Case 310 crawlers were like that with maybe a tractor rear end with individual steering brakes.
@@WatchWesWork the discs are worn in the spot turn unit. If it had planetary drive you wouldn't have that.
About all loaders had spot turn for maneuverability. Farm machines had planetary system which put full power to both tracks without any clutches.
@@WatchWesWork you dont have to pull the final drive housings at all.
@@neilkratzer3182 100% you have to pull the final drives. I have the clutches out.
This looks like its going to be an interesting one - I’m guessing more than a two part video looking at the work ahead. I’m with you - i like the general automotive stuff but the ‘unusual’ heavy equipment is very interesting. Keep up the great videos !
Finally another obscure equipment video ;-). Love it
Wes, you can't operate a crawler like that without a yellow hardhat, it just won't run right.
Adds 20 lb/ft of torque instantly also 🤣
Whatever you do don't forget to wear your hard hat, that'll save you if the machine topples over on you...🤣🤣🤣 Rename the channel Watch Wes Almost Die...🤣🤣
It’s a brain bucket to assist with the clean up after the event
great video. Love rusty stuff brought back.
Looks like a fun project! Can’t wait for the next part.
