Will it start? Oliver OC 46 track loader sitting for 10 years with seized injection pump

- Introducing the Oliver OC 46 tracked loader to the channel. I bought it as part of a package deal with Skinny, the Case 310 crawler dozer parts machine. Neither were running but this Oliver diesel engine was free and spinning. The previous owner told
me it has been sitting for at least 10 years.
Will it start without an injection pump?
Will it run long enough to determine if the engine and hydraulic system are viable enough to warrant the expense of an injection pump rebuild?
Shout out to Todd Stauffer (@DadyRat) of Stauffer Diesel (@staufferdieselincstadco3873) for his technical help evaluating and diagnosing the engine. (I’m fairly new to diesels systems)
Shout out to my son Stephen and nephew Kieth for hauling Skinny and the Oliver for me.
The starter I bought on eBay for $99 was listed as a starter for a New Holland Skid Steer L783 with a Perkins 4-203.

its always great to see some one bring old trackers back to life
Welcome to the channel! Thanks for watching.
Give Area Diesel Service a call and see if they can rebuild your pump. That is what they specialize in. Check out the injection pump and turbo they did for Diesel Creek. Very old machines. They have a RUclips channel. Yes. Would like to see more. Nice machine to restore. Worth the investment. Cheers.
Thanks for the referral!
I'll second that vote for Area Diesel @@northeastoutpost
Thank you for not playing dumb ass filler music like most other YT channels do
Thank you for the feedback. I will note this for the future as well
Want more of the Oliver 😊
Welcome to the channel
You can get parts for the OC46 from Zimmerman Oliver Cletrac in Ephrata Pennsylvaina. There are 3 versions of that engine so you need the engine serial number for internal parts. Hercules engines are not related to Perkins engines in any way.
Welcome to the channel! I had the pleasure of taking to the folks at Zimmerman’s a few weeks ago about my situation and found them very knowledgeable. Thanks for the heads up about Hercules engines and incompatibility with Perkins engines.
You have a good little machine there, It also has an auxillery transmission, which can be a reverser or hi lo transmission. Its easy to tell when you get it running.@@northeastoutpost
Yes the Oliver deserves it's day! get that pump sent off to Area Diesel and get her fixed!
Thanks for the suggestion
Pretty green antifreeze dripping out of it an every big name , Cummins cat, mack, Detroit,an more sold there stuff with eather kits on most of it just as long as you dont cosby sause it to death than your good ...👍👍😊
Welcome to the channel
@@northeastoutpost an Glad I run across it it's good stuff 👍😉
She's a runner!
Indeed. Now if we can get her running on her own that’d be swell
Oh yea the Cosby sauce is a sure thang a couple of snorts an yull know great video 👍👍
😂
I have a 1962 Oliver 550 tractor that I call "Ollie". It is a really nice machine. I bought it refurbished from a retired farmer that likes doing that kind of thing. If you want you can call your's "Ollie" also. I think my Ollie would like having a sibling. Bob
A sibling, I like that. Thanks for watching!
Would love to see more of this machine getting repaired and back in service. Pacific Northwest hillbilly rebuilt a cat dozer that had a hydraulic pump on the front and squatch253 just rebuilt a d2 cat and did a full restoration of it , and I agree with to others Area diesel service is a good place to send the injector pump.
Thank you for the encouragement and the recommendation!
A clip borad would work prefict for a run away just saying iv seen em eat rags granted they where a lot bigger that ol pocket rocket there 👍👍👍👍 great video 👍👍👍
Good idea
Love those old Oliver's let's see this thing work......
I’ll keep you posted!
Ollie Dee. For Oliver Diesel
Thanks for the suggestion!
Get her running 👍
I will try!
Starter seemed to work OK. If it starts skipping you might look at changing that shim between it and the bell housing to something thinner if the flywheel will allow more gear engagement.
Yeah, I wasn’t sure it was going to work well since the ring gear looked dinged up. But I’m really pleased with this starter. It was listed as a starter for a New Holland Skid Steer L783 with a Perkins 4-203. I got it for $99 on eBay.
I have a gas OC46 I rebuilt & painted. I got lots of parts from Zimmerman's. They will do lots of heavy work. The Hydraulics are quick too.
Thanks for the referral to Zimmerman’s. Yes, they are quite knowledgeable! I’m looking forward to getting this rig to work.
look up zimmerman oliver cletrac for parts and you can get pump rebuilt if you look up hercules dd130 diesel pump. pricey but rare machine in diesel.
Thanks for the tips! The folks at Zimmerman Oliver Cletrac are indeed helpful!
Sweet it run
I’d call it green, because yellow and blue make green and it would be fun to see how many people caught the reference lol
😂
Ye ol hose clamp trick!👌

Welcome to the channel.
The bucket is supported with a piece of C-channel. It’s not being held up by the pump or the valves.

😂
For a moment there I thought it had actually started on diesel until you started batting at the controls!
There was indeed a moment where it sounded proper for sure. But the injection pump wasn’t even in the machine!
@@northeastoutpost Not even sounded proper, it smoked black like it sucked fuel in rather than ether. But hey the machine's viable and the engine's internally healthy enough so that injection pump's worth fixing/rebuilding!
Indeed! Now to find a workable injection pump (or a good rotor head and driveshaft). I hope my next video is about installing the pump and operating the machine!
@@northeastoutpost I don't know if your budget allows, but you could send it off to Area Diesel Services. they've gone through injection pumps on other RUclipsr's old iron and made 'em run right as rain again.
I imagine it isn't cheap, but what they would send back would effectively be brand new.
ruclips.net/video/Uz8WAjz2PnI/видео.html
I appreciate the lead! BTW, have any nickname suggestions for the Oliver?
Babe the blue loader, like babe the blue ox
Thank yoI for the suggestion!
Send the injection pump to Area Diesel service and let them take a look.
Thanks for the referral. I’ve been hearing their name a lot!
Put a pump on it that motor solid 😊
May it be so!
Hercules and Perkins are the same motor Perkins diesel motors are still made today my dad started out in excavating with those Oliver machines
Interesting. The starter I installed cross-referenced to the starter for a Perkins (4-203 I think).
Hercules were US made, Perkins are Pommie, but owned by Caterpillar nowadays.
nice
Thanks!
Do a compression test to see if it can run. Then check valve adj. Right?
Not a bad idea. A leak down would be even better
nice dozer😅❤
Thanks!
The RH track on the Case dozer is on backwards, will chew thru the sprockets and bushes in no time.
😮 I never noticed that! That’s the track haven’t had off (yet). I’m curious, what causes this to speed up the wear process?
@@northeastoutpost There is some good vids on U tube that explain it all.
@northeastoutpost, new edition/oliver name: "babe" or "ol' blue."
Welcome to the channel. Thank you for the name submissions. Babe is a new one. “Ol’ Blue” is in the running along with Ollie.
Ol' Blue
Thanks for the suggestion
@@northeastoutpost thank you for the nice content!
Call it the Blue Turd
😂
You only give a diesel a sniff of starter fluid once in a while. You drowned that poor thing, and lucky you didn't lock it up.
It takes a lot of cranking to get heat built up in the cylinders to ignite the fuel. Thats why older diesels have pony moters to warm them up before turning on the fuel for them to actually start.
Put that either can down for awhile and crank that engine to build up some friction heat, then only like a 1/2 second sniff of either.
You’re right. Took me a little while to figure that out.
Did the Oliver cost you same amount as the D2 Cat? I'd like to see your restoration progress on the Oliver track loader. Looks like Ford blue !
Hot Potato (the yellow machine at the beginning of the video) is a Case 310. I bought the Oliver OC 46 together with another Case 310 (a narrow gauge version I call Skinny).
I’m currently trying to source an injection pump (or a drive shaft and rotor head) for the Oliver.
Send the injector pump to Area Diesel Service, Carlinville, Ill for a rebuild
Thanks for the lead!
Yes it do want to c more but it won't b doing if u use all that stuff in can lol
🙂
I would name that Blue Tractor Babe. After babe the blue ox. From Paul bunion and babe the blue ox. Sounds appropriate right
Thanks for the suggestion!
next time use two cans of either and see how that works out for you
😂
Paul Bunyon blue ox (BABE)
Thank you for the suggestion
I also do believe yanmar motors are made by the Perkins motor company..
Interesting. I wonder what might be interchangeable from Perkins to the old Hercules I have.
Not correct. Yanmar is made by yanmar and they aren’t owned by anybody.
Perkins is owned by caterpillar
Why not Oliver? it's written on it!
You have a point!
Baby Smirf
Nice! Thanks for the suggestion
You will be lucky if there are any upper ring lands left in it.
Stay tuned…
Area Diesel Illinois for your pump
Thank you for lead!
Old Blue
Thanks for the suggestion
Call it confusion. It was yellow now it's blue.
🤣 I know, right?
Hercano in Ohio for Hercules parts
Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for the suggestion
Call it blue bull
THE BLUE MULE?
Thanks for the suggestion
Also, you were hitting the wrong terminal on the starter, you were hitting the ground. Hit the solenoid terminal with the power
Thanks for the tip!
call it " Blue Devil""
Thank you for the suggestion! It actually hits for me since I was a Blue Devil.
