The reason that your torque converter belt engages at idle is because it is on backwards. Those belts have an edge that has a bevel towards the tooth side, and an edge that is square cut. The edge with the bevel should go towards the engine, as that side of the driver pulley has a conical shape that it matches. Try flipping it end-for-end.

Hey Wes! Awesome to see you got it running! I have a brake master i’ll send ya for free to keep the project moving along. Also some things to note about the CVT clutch system. There is a specific clutch removal tool for the primary clutch. Can be had online pretty cheap, threads into the clutch and presses onto the crankshaft stub. ( I purchased mine from Dennis Kirk). When you take the clutch back off be sure to inspect all the weights and bushings for excessive wear. That system is the p90 style clutch system but many parts are interchangeable with the more common p85 systems found on Polaris snowmobiles of that era. Also important to note that belt alignment is critical as well as making sure the secondary clutch can float freely on the shaft. Torque spec on the primary clutch is right around 65ft/lb for future reference. As far as adjusting belt tension, there is not external adjustment on that system, there are shims that can be removed in the primary clutch to adjust the belt clearance but I promise you that you don’t want to hassle with that. The belt will wear in over time. As for the crank seals on that Fuji engine, I believe the case needs to be split to install them but I am not 100 percent certain.
I thought the same about the seals but oddly enough you can replace them without splitting the crankcase. There is a video on RUclips on the procedure.

Nice video and great work! I'm finishing up the revival of a Polaris Sportsman 500 HO that spent 7 years outside. The primary clutches tend to develop a ridge at the bottom of the sheaves where the belt doesn't make contact and causes them to catch the belt at idle, especially with a new belt.

Another great video. That looks like a Mikuni VM carb very popular on two strokes. Remove the main jet and flat washer and the emulsion tube comes out the top. You could pressure test the motor. Plenty of videos available. The extra smoke could be transmissions oil from the right side crank seal. Thanks as always for your efforts.
Maybe you should have cleaned outside ? Glad you got it going now waiting for the burn up with the Mrs on your grass 😂😂 already watch hank , mustie and Jonathan. Thanks so much for sharing stay safe and healthy . 🇬🇧
Cold starting after 22 years.... and he revs it like there's no tomorrow after 2 seconds ! 😋 well it sure did past the test... if you want to be sure check the compression on each cylinder. Oh and last tip if i may, you should put a 2$ little gas filter, between your gas tank and your carburator, to prevent any debris contained in your old gas tank or AT the gas pump directly sometimes even in your jerry cans. Cool quad i'm happy for you.✌️😎
Another great video Wes!!!! Can't beat a free quad that runs and drives. Good move on running your own premix. Better safe than sorry there. Also, you're on the money with the crank seals. Super important on 2-strokes as a source of air leaks. I replace them on all the saws I build, and often they're so bad that some won't even idle or stay running without working the throttle. Now install an 8-ball shift knob, drop in filter and a Yoshi pipe and you'll be stylin' LMAO!!! Hamiltonville Farm is a good channel. Hank is always into something with some of the equipment he gets running. That will be a great collaboration between you two guys! I will be watching for that for sure. Great content as usual man. Your channel, and Warren's (Western truck & tractor,) are by far two of my favorite channels. Keep 'em coming brother, and stay safe out there!!! 👍💪😎
I found one exactly like yours years ago. The man had under a tarp in pieces. He told to take it off his property he was tired of it. I had it running in a couple of days. It ran great for me I wound up selling it for $1200.00.

Hamilton just makes the movies to start something and that’s it. It’s much more interesting how you do it. Even such a quad is much more interesting to see it back in action
Hi Wes. Andrew Camaretta has a site and he showcases his grading company and he constantly is working on grading equipment, trucks, and trailers. Also he buys jet skis for next to nothing and brings them back to life. One of his tricks to clean out plastic gas tanks is to stuff a couple rags into the tank and put the end of an air hose into the tank and swish the rags around for several minutes while he works on another item. Voila clean tank with no fret.
Well, it goes but I’m guessing by the distinct lack of brake fluid reservoir cover it won’t be stopping so quick. Thanks for the entertainment. Keep them coming Wes. 👍
I was thinking of you the other day I was rehabing a JD STX30 and Mr & Mrs Mouse had done a pretty bang up job filling the area under the cooling shroud with walnut husks and nest.

You can make a primary puller out of a piece of 3/4" fine all thread and nut about 1' long. The clutch is threaded internally, just weld the nut on one end and use it to push the clutch off. We have 3 of these we ride with our grandkids, a 250 and two 400 scramblers. They are awesome!
Great video! The jokes just get better and better. If you do a part two, and have time please do one of your drawings and explanation on how the clutch works.
I found Hank’s site before yours! He’s good! I watch your channel, it’s more educational Wes! You explain much more detail! I just wanted to know if you have an ask Wes site, I’m having issues with my 2000 Dodge 5.9 Cummins! Thanks Wes! I’d rather bring it to you but I’m in Louisiana brother!

Both sides of the belt are beveled, it's probably just not adjusted correctly, belt deflection or belt to sheave clearance

That wiring issue would have been a stopper for me, my electrical knowledge is far to little to have figured that out. Keep up the great work!
Some Mikuni carbs do have "MIC" stamped on them so it's probably a legit piece.
Dido on that! forgot to mention on my comment.
I was expecting a “there’s your problem, lady” when the trans cover came off.
Best line on RUclips.
It’s a classic two stroke Mikuni. They all had MIC on them. Two strokes always just make you laugh. Love mine! Enjoy!
Carb says "MIC" ...what you can't see is it continues "KEY MOUSE."
That was my first thought.
I was going to say the same thing!! LOL
I lived in Oklahoma for 9 years . Same flat ground. The wind kept blowing 24 hrs a day. Patio doors sang all of the time. Fun place!! Weather changes of 40F in hours. Plus big tornadoes. Fun Fun
@15:15 A Mustie1 moment "Lets dribble a little gas into the cylinder" :D
I caught myself backing up from the computer screen when you pulled that drive cover off! Wooweeeeeeee! Ohhhhh the smell! And the Mustie1 references, all gold!
More smoke than an Amsterdam coffee house...yikes!
I suspect some of the smoke indicates the oil injection does in fact work.
Just good for it after all that siting
2 stroke
Another great video my friend nice to see the family 👍
another runner 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks 👍
One conclusion I have drawn from all this is that Mouse Piss is Corrosive along with being Gross!
Actually hurts watching some of youre content as I’ve thrown away better because I couldn’t get it to fire up but wel done again Wes on another successful fix.(he says in a jealous mood haha).but you are a realy good mechanic aswel as other things.thank you for showing me and my mates how it should be done 👍.Liverpool lads,uk.
It’s alive........ITS ALIVE HAHAHA
I have the same Polaris color and all but painted it camouflage. But that bike is a absolute workhorse and has never let me down.
On Saturday mornings & some Sunday too, I will get up & try to catch up on your website & of course Mustie 1 too. And once again another great video. I really do enjoy watching you guys figure things out. Keep up the good work.
Hey Wes make sure the vent hose for the oil tank is not plugged on the trail boss I fixed one up that was sitting for a while and the vent was plugged. Causes a vacuum in oil tank and the motor burns out. Also you put bigger bolt in center of the clutch to get the clutch off. love your videos always learn lots
Great restoration! Keep laughing as it adds color to your work. Nice to see Iowa ingenuity still exists. Always enjoy your football teams when they come to Penn State to play. Excellent Americans that are true patriots. Enjoyed this very much! Thanks
That looks like the 1993 Trailblazer. You gotta love the Mikuni carburetor.
I leanred a thing or two on this. Thank you...keep the videos coming. enjoy them
I bought a 2002 Polaris ATV little while ago with the same engine as a quarantine project. It had caught fire and done some damage. New wiring harness, plastics and a couple other parts and it started right up. Super fun
Farming tractors
That's probably the best explanation of CDI.. I finally get it.. but just in case, can you break out the crayons for me? This is why I vote for you to talk on your videos.
It's a pretty simple system, but kind of backwards of normal ignition.
I know you keep saying you can't make an interesting carb rebuild but I am here to say IMHO yes you can. haha Thanks for another great video.
As always you brought something back from the dead!! Great job!! Only wish you had continued with repairs to/replacement of the master cylinder, calipers, the chain, the tires, putting on a new seat, working on the headlights, etc.
It looked like a smoke bomb out. Max wasn't of all that smoke. Them mice had a hay day in there. Surprised none came running out. Great video thanks for sharing.
I laughed out loud when you said it works backwards like a magnito. Mag systems are the only thing I work on so to me everything else is oddball! Great video as usual. The explanation you do is great, it helps me understand and gives me some knowledge to start working on newer engines and equipment.
Brother don't get hung up on comparing yourself to Mustie. He's a sorcerer who sold his soul to the devil or something crazy like that. You're one heck of a smart guy and a heck of a mechanic. Love your videos. 👍
Gday Wes ,,
Love hearing you laughing your head off when the beast came back to life , classic .
Great to see the family helping out ,
The young fella is a real chip off the old block Wes .
The after market chinese parts are slowly getting better, and would prob be ok to to use master n slave cylinder kits to restore the brakes ,, ive had good results ..
Great episode yet again ....
Thanks Wes
Much Respect

Nice plug there with Hank! I've already been watching him and really enjoy his channel. He also has a lot of interaction with his viewers and commenters oh, I'm sure that will change however the more viewers that he gets and more comments that he gets
Well that's how it goes I guess. His channel is growing fast.
I'm all about get it free, use your skills and min $$$ , and have something that someone else would throw away but you have a useable machine for pennies. Awesome job Wes
Wes, thanks for sharing, learning a ton about rebuilding ATV"s.
Not very many people remember "Something Wicked, this way comes". It was a pretty complex movie. Kudos to you sir.
Ray Bradburry.
I do have a smoke machine. Hmm....
Maybe you should have cleaned outside ? Glad you got it going now waiting for the burn up with the Mrs on your grass 😂😂 already watch hank , mustie and Jonathan. Thanks so much for sharing stay safe and healthy . 🇬🇧
Wes& Musti 1 what a team ,great video 👍👍
Thanks 👍
Cold starting after 22 years.... and he revs it like there's no tomorrow after 2 seconds ! 😋 well it sure did past the test... if you want to be sure check the compression on each cylinder. Oh and last tip if i may, you should put a 2$ little gas filter, between your gas tank and your carburator, to prevent any debris contained in your old gas tank or AT the gas pump directly sometimes even in your jerry cans. Cool quad i'm happy for you.✌️😎
BTW 35:12 ...When your clutch looks like CORAL ... yep time to swap it .
Thanks man. I don't know if we can do anything in person together. He's pretty far from me.
@@WatchWesWork
You got it bro! 👍 Yeah I see that now... would definitely be a cool collaboration nonetheless.
I found one exactly like yours years ago. The man had under a tarp in pieces. He told to take it off his property he was tired of it. I had it running in a couple of days. It ran great for me I wound up selling it for $1200.00.
I was dying laughing through most of the video. What really got me laughing was when the stuff on the atv fell off. I swear it would be one of your vids if stuff didn’t fall off something or the family comes in to see you lol. Great vid Wes. Oh I am subscribed to hamiltonvile farm. Thanks for the invite tho. Mustie1 is magic lol
Love watching Hank , he popped up on my suggested videos . And that cheese eater line gets me laughing everytime . Cheers Wes love your channel .
Thoroughly enjoyable Wes , thank you so much, so nice to watch , you are a clever Trevor Ha Ha . Regards Clive
Glad you enjoyed it!
Barn finds are always soooo much fun, I just found a polaris trailboss 350l that hadn't been touched in 4 years
Like the bridge between the week gap. Nicely edited 👍🏻 I’ve watched a couple of movies from Hamilton farms but I only like a movie when something is put back in action. Hamilton just makes the movies to start something and that’s it. It’s much more interesting how you do it. Even such a quad is much more interesting to see it back in action
Cool, thanks!
I'm not sure how well that would work. I like nuts and bolts with nice sharp edges. On a rusty tank I use nuts and bolts and a pressure washer.
Think I just got Hantavirus through my screen when you opened that cover....Damn critters!!! Oddly satisfying watching the cleanup though:)
Thumbs up 👍 good to see going through the process. To find a way out of the situation.
Yep, they love tractors.
...almost like it sat outside for seven....er in a barn for 22 years...a lot easier to keep under budget when the purchase price is zero =) Another good one, Wes!
Right!
Mighta shoulda started that puppy outside the first time. Love your laughing when pulling the cover off the mouse condo. :-)
Love that you watch Mustie1 too, he taught me a lot about small motors.
The smoke should help with the bug problem.
Great video! The jokes just get better and better. If you do a part two, and have time please do one of your drawings and explanation on how the clutch works.
Heh. It's a very simple CVT setup.
