THIS is how you end a season. Closure from the current, with a brilliant set up for the next using current characters and not just throwing in one off season long villains. Roots redemption started here and its wonderful set up between reese and finch
I really love the last 40 seconds. So much meaning in this. This is the first time the Machine contacted someone by herself without her preprogrammed intention. The first time I saw this scene I got goose bumps. This show just keeps getting better
This was a huge turning point for both Root as a character, and the series. The machine reached out to Root, who looked upon the Machine as her personal God, at her lowest moment, and remade her into something much better. Because In many ways, she was Root to the end, but better in many ways. Her and Shaw were a lot alike, always capable of caring and feeling, but buried those emotions because they did no good for either one of them with what they did for a living.
I always thought Root was bad, until few episodes later after this one, I thought she was going to try and destroy the machine but here she actually helps
I interpreted Root as someone who lost her faith in humanity and found her HOPE in Harold's Machine. As a coder/hacker/programmer, Root saw a watchful guardian protector AI surveillance system, one that observed, studied, predicted and intuitively adapted its understanding of humanity and chose to continue caring for them, acting to prompt Harold's team to intervene to save lives, as being infinitely preferable to people who always seemed to disappoint her. It all sprang from her witnessing the abduction of her childhood friend, the willful disregard of her eyewitness accounts by the adults in her life, and her knowledge that her friend had been murdered. This warped Root's perception of people. That said, Harold and the Machine changed Root. At first, it was simply Root gushing in admiration over the existence of the Machine, but once she linked with the Machine...Root was irrevocably changed!
if you really want to see the prelude to the terminator watch "colossus the forbin project" -- and sci - fi movie from 1970 I'd post a link to a clip on youtube, but all the clips give away the whole movie
@@firstname4337 Interesting you mention that movie, I really think the writers/producers took a lot of inspiration from it, with The Machine, Samaritan and all, but I don't quite see it as the most apt prelude to the Terminator series, I think there are better examples out there, perhaps Westworld. I didn't actually see the movie, or the HBO series for that matter, but the story did come well before the Terminator series and foreshadows it quite a bit in many ways. But of course, the best example may be going back to 1968 and 2001...
Yes. The woman 'killed' in the massive car explosion that was meant for Reese. I think somehow, she survived the bast and ensuing fire, to crawl to safety.
@Andrea Hayes Reese has only spoken to Root once, on the phone at the end of 2x02. And when she was pretending to be a therapist... It's pretty strange, actually!
@@MantraHerbInchSin I think I may have written this comment before the series ended. Possibly even before season 4 aired! That being said, they barely interact with each other directly even when they're part of the same team!
Haven't watched the episode, but pretty sure there's a scene where Reese talks to Root near the end after she gets shot. If anyone can find it, can they please give the link to me?
I still say that John and Root are bother and sister. I do think the machine was still talking to John too. John is strong minded, he turns the machine off. John only talks to the machine when he wants too, or if the machine has good intell. John can live with out the machine Root can't. Chirp
I suppose you know by now, but they know of the machine and call it 'Research' which gives them the relevant numbers. Finch and co get the irrelevant numbers
um u realize harold finch is the one who put her in the psych ward (without consent obv)? not that calling someone "a mental patient" rly means anything anyway. but its pretty clear in all the psych ward scenes (season 3 episodes 1 and 3) that its ridiculous for her to be there. whatever political rectification she may have needed to engage in has little to do with mental health treatment, maybe therapy for her 'secondary trauma' (idk what wording to use) @ the abuse and murder of her childhood friend hannah could be helpful but that is obv not the reason harold finch put her in the psych ward and idk how much that has to do with the parts of her political orientation that she rectifies over the course of season 3. anyway dr. ronald carmichael is possibly the single most ridiculous ""therapist"" i have seen in any tv show and watching root ridicule him is sooo funny, regardless of whether she 'might have been' able to benefit from therapy if shed had an actual therapist
+Random Name Jim Cavizel has acted in a series POI s as a top secret covert agent that would be a good recommendation for a movie about a British secret agent.

her death was THE BEST part of the show. Should been a S3 thing, not a pre-finale.

yeah , cool
I still get goosebumps when I see it. God, I love Root!
+4Tom4lepus4 me too! I used to hate Root but now I think she is pretty cool.
Tats my mobile ring tone. Its amazing

If it never did she probably would’ve stayed in solitary confinement for the rest of her life
0:52 - My life changed when I kept my mouth shut at an airport terminal 7 years ago.
How many times has anyone thought that exact same thought, to keep silent when they should have spoken, cried out, etc.
We're not deaf. We heard it.
Just realized it's the showrunners Greg Plageman and Jonah Nolan walking the other patient down the hallway at 2:00
Holy shit, yes!
Isn’t the patient they’re walking down the director?
At 1:59 You can See the twoWriters of the show Jona Nolan, Greg Plageman carrying Richard J Lewis
wow.
That’s an impressive cameo.
2:11 - The phone ring is the real turning point of the series.

@@victorpradha9946 I couldn't have said it better myself
Absolutely!
Finch and Nathan gave the machine to the government, it's to be expected that more within the government would learn of it then
It's so sad to see all the hype for the next few seasons, after seeing the ending and being left with unending sadness...
That's not true..
The ending was perfect
the music at 1:25 after the phone rings is just so perfect
I kinda feel like person of interest is a prelude to the terminator series.
Yes me too. I'm super afraid of the moment either Harold's Machine or Decima's Samaritan become freakin' Skynet.

What's the soundtrack to this scene?
ramin djawadi-listening with a million ears
+Ghazi Ghazi and the one at last is root theme
I have a feeling that the machine is going to help root get out of the hospital. How do Hersh and Ma'am know about the machine?
I suppose you know by now, but they know of the machine and call it 'Research' which gives them the relevant numbers. Finch and co get the irrelevant numbers
She is going into solitary confinement! (as seen in Season 3 promo - Lliberty)
Where do these people live.... I haven't seen a pay phone in at least 10 years!
The Machine bought all the payphones in New York earlier in this season, so that he can continue to contact Finch and Reese in that manner.
what is the soundtrack tha plays in the end of the video ? can anyone tell me please ?? 😢
ramin djawadi-God Mode
what do you see?
That that idea is haunting me!
🥰😍🤩🥳😘
Is that Jack E. Salazar's number?
Will channel 5 get there arses in gear and get season 3 on some time this century
Any guesses on the actress playing "mam" in the car?
Camryn Manheim
