Aloha Coach Al, footwork is so important. The most flawless stroke is meaningless if you can't get there. Good footwork will not only get you in position, with a bit of practice, it will allow you to wait longer allowing you to determine your opponent's shot, so you don't fall for a deception and will get you there early so you can maximize your shot options. Awesome video, everyone should review it so that they can validate their own footwork and improve. One more critical point I'd like to make and would appreciate your perspective. Online lessons should be supplimented by professional on court lessons for optimal growth and improvement. A well trained coach will make corrections immediately and suggest individualized drills to strengthen a skill. I have found that this combination works well. One simply cannot move to the advanced level without professional training. It's impossible. I have played with club players that have not improved in years, some up to 25 years, the flaws in their footwork and technique are so egregious it only results in injury. They are also adverse to correcting their bad habits because they are so ingrained. Many players play with a single grip and cannot perform net kills, back hand shots, or smashes. Many relie on hitting harder by using a panhandle grip with no pronation. Several players have never learned proper footwork to the back court. I have witnessed 3 incidents on court resulting in serious injuries of players falling backwards and suffering concussions. Not to mention back and spinal injuries, torn acls, ligaments, hamstrings, achilles tendons, wrist, finger, knee, fore arm, rotator cuff, shoulder and elbow muscles. Two out of three have never touch a racquet again. Most end up in surgery or laid up for months. So sorry to digress, but I feel everyone should learn the proper back court footwork. Starting off on the wrong foot or just back pedaling will eventually lead to disaster. Thanks for the lesson and bearing with me. Badminton is a beautiful game but it can be dangerous too. Learn the game properly, prevent injuries, and have fun. Thanks. Take care.
