Ingredients
(6 medium size of mantous / steam buns)
(A) Yeast mixture:-
1. 90ml Warm water
2. 5g ( 1 tsp ) Caster sugar
3. 3g ( 1 tsp ) Instants dried yeast
(B) Dough:-
1. 190g ( 1 1/4 cup ) Bao flour ( can be replaced with all purpose flour )
2. 1/2 tsp Baking powder
3. 30g ( 1/8 cup ) Caster sugar
4. 15g ( 1 tbsp ) Melted butter ( can be replaced with vegetable cooking oil )
5. 35g ( 5~6 pcs ) Jujube / Red dates - finely chopped ( more or less, according to own favourite )
Steam for 12 minutes. Open lid after 2 minutes when done.
*Don't open lid right after turning off fire, sudden changes of temperature will result in buns collapse. Хобби

Hi maria, u can try substitute red dates with chopped walnut
I'm not sure where you're located but there is a difference between jujube or red dates and Turkish dates (the brown soft ones).
12 minutes timing start when start fire or only after boil? For steaming..

Can I use any type of dates - I've got a packet of sticky ones waiting to be open...?
Also, I've got instant yeast but the type that does not need to be activated; can I use that and in that case should I change the quantities?

Hi Rita, of course you can use your type of dates, it is very free to use your own creativity to explore different type of material and to come out with surprise in cooking & baking. I am using the instants dried yeast too, I use to activate them because i can double confirm & sure about my yeast are alive, if my yeast got any problem, after mixing with all the ingredient then my dough are wasted.

Hi! Kimiya thanks for sharing yr recipe. I have a little suggestion for u to cut up d red dates i. e. to remove d seeds of the red dates u can cut in a horizontal way instead of vertically. This way d flesh of d dates is not much stick to d seeds. Tqvm😍😍😍

Hi June, if you don't put red dates, it is a plain mantou, still tasty, but I hope you will try out this red dates mantou, cause they are really delicious and healthy too, unless like some kids don't like red dates, but my kids don't like dates still eating this, the natural sweetness of the dates are the main unique in this mantou.

* لا تفتح الغطاء مباشرة بعد إيقاف النار ، لان التغيرات المفاجئة في درجة الحرارة يؤدي إلى انهيار الكرات
