    I have the Keltec. It’s an awesome gun and an awesome company. I bought the original sub 2000 in 9mm and kept it and used it everywhere for almost 20 years. I beat the hell out of it, took it camping, it got rained on, was kept under the front seat of 4 different vehicles, (cars and trucks). I put thousands of rounds through it and didn’t clean it, sometimes for years. It almost never had misfeeds or extraction problems and was as reliable as any Glock, H&k or Sig. Here’s the part about the company: I sent my sub 2000 to Keltec for replacing/refinishing some rusted parts. In the course of talking to Keltec’s service department, we decided to upgrade the rifle to Gen 2. They charged me 150 bucks plus shipping and what I got back was essentially a brand new rifle. This gun will be with me for the rest of my life and I have no doubt it will outlive my kids. I also have a Keltec P3AT .380 pistol, and I literally carry it in my wallet. I am definitely a Keltec customer for life.

    One thing that I rarely see brought up when it comes to these PCCs is weight. One of the biggest advantages of a PCC is getting maximum power out of low recoil pistol ammo, making them ideal for smaller or physically weaker shooters (females, the elderly and infirm, etc). The Ruger and the AR-9 weigh the same as or more than an AR-15, so if you are able to lift that weight you'd be better off with 5.56 over 9mm. The SUB-2000 is more than *2LB* lighter than those, and that makes a big difference for those demographics.

    • @ratroute8238
      @ratroute8238 4 года назад +13

      I was looking for this comment. Weight is just as important as size but wont get mentioned near as often.
      Mag flexibility is an other point of usefulness.

    • @michaelh3992
      @michaelh3992 3 года назад +2

      Agree on mag flexibility. I got a pc 9 because Magpul Glock mags were cheap, and then swapped my full size home defense pistols (M&P 9, and Springfield XD 9) for a Glock 17 to have magazine uniformity.
      Not sure I agree as to weight. I suspect a PC 9 is a pound or two heavier than an AR 9 with decent upgraded components. Doubt a 9mm BCG, 2.5oz heavier buffer and barrel add that much extra weight to an AR over .223/.556, as gas block and tube are absent.

    I have the Ruger PC 9, purchased in stock configuration shortly after it was released. It shoots super easy and is ridiculously easy to hit smallish targets (soda cans, clay pigeons, etc.) with a zeroed red dot. I've added a Midwest Industries 12" rail and their aluminum stock spacer to improve sling and accessory attachment options. Really like this carbine.
    The Keltec seems cool but also seems most likely to break.
    I got the PC before I had much experience with an AR, and now I realize that it's substantially heavier than a standard AR. Watched this vid because thinking about getting an AR and setting it up for 9mm, but read that 9mm blowback recoil is substantially greater than .223/.556 so I'm looking for a recoil comparison bw AR 9 and PC 9.

    Like: Eats what I feed it. Reliable. Straight shooter. Re-acquiring targets and controlling double taps better with comp. I'm sure the MCarbo comp works fine too. Wish I had a chance to try both. Fun!
    Concern: Ruger's MLOK brings weight forward. Might be better buying standard upper, then go 3rd party MLOK later.
    Conclusion: Love it. Ruger "over-builds" but that's what I wanted. Plan to gradually upgrade over next 12 months. If experience cycling issues I'll get the MCarbo extractor.

    Glad to see a video like this. It's Sub2000 for the win IMO. It's lightweight, reliable, storable, and the cheapest of the three. I bought one for each member of my household. For the cost of a middle of the road AR, I was able to buy a Sub2000, PSA Dagger, and plate carrier for each person. This also maintains mag compatibility across the board. 9mm ammo is also the most affordable ammo right now and the most common. I have bought much from MCarbo but personally find the scope mount way overpriced. For $80 I was able to buy a decent red dot, riser, and QD mount for the Sub2000. When folded, clip the red dot underneath and just flip it to the top rail when deployed. Yes, it is slower but $149 just for the mount is a bit much. The red dot seems to be holding combat effectiveness within 100 yards which is the most you will get out of a PCC effectively anyway.

    I only own the SUB2K, and once I had it sighted in, I've found it to be totally reliable. My uncle who had never shot anything like that, over inserted a 17rounder like a dummy, (because he thought it had to be flush like the 15 rdr it comes with) and mangled the feed lips with the bolt, but even after that I reinserted the mag and the gun ran fine, the mag took all the beating (which I was surprised being the SUB2K is mostly polymer). Whatever, totally just anecdotal info from my sample size of 1. I would love to buy/play around with the other 2 .... :)

      I have both 1st and 2nd gen Sub2000s. Both shipped with absolutely terrible triggers which I remedied through traditional gunsmithing methods. Accuracy is exceptional with both of them when I use S&B 115 grain fmj, and winchester nato gets an honorable mention as well. At 100 yards, with a 4x optic mounted backwards in an AR cantilever mount and the sights removed, the gun will put 5 rounds of S&B into groups of 2” or less. That’s superior to most rack-grade ARs in 5.56 using bulk ammo. My Ruger pc9 will even do a bit better with the same ammo. Most other ammo will shoot around 3” with either the Ruger or the sub2k at 100 yards. I own an Angstadt UDP-9 and a Foxtrot Mike FM9 (both 16” guns) and neither will do better than 5-6” at 100 yards. I just have not found AR-pattern PCCs to be very accurate. People tend to say things like “They’re just not intended to shoot that far”, and I say only accurate guns are interesting. Obviously Ruger and Kel-tec do think they are intended to shoot that far, and the targets show their mission accomplished.

    I have owned/own all three. I had the gen 1 Sub 2K and sold it. I like it a lot, fun to shoot and super quick to deploy. But it felt cheap. Really cheap. Front sight blade was a nightmare. I built a 7.5” 9mm SBR, Glock mags on a New Frontier Armory lower. Upper has a last round bolt hold open. LOVE that gun. She is ammo picky, though. she does not like flat point 147gr ammo. I also have the Ruger PC carbine. I like that rifle A LOT. Not nearly as picky with ammo like the AR-9. My only complaint is the iron sights... mine seem to be a bit off for some reason, so I installed a red dot. All in all, I don’t see paying a ton of money for a rifle that you are going to double in price by buying and installing third party aftermarket stuff.

    Here is my 2cents of experience. PCC’s are fun to shoot, less expensive then shooting a real rifle and if you choose the right PCC and pistol combination you have one sweet setup with cross-compatibility. But the advantages of the PCC over a real rifle (one chambered in a rifle round) pretty much stops there. If you are talking strictly home defense you want something that can one shot stop most intruders and not over penetrate. My choice is a 300blackout, short barrel, with a good fast acquiring optic.
    With all this said, I own a Keltec M-Series Sub2000 9mm Multi-Mag that I matched up to my Sig P320. Why? Because with the right rounds and plan you have one sweet camping/hiking/truck rifle and pistol combo! The rounds I use for this combo are Winchester SXT (first 6 rounds shot) then followed up by Buffalo Bore Penetrators (hard cast bullets). Most engagements I’ve been in are either done in the first 3-6 rounds fired and if not, the enemy has usually slipped behind some type of medium’ ish type of cover. This is where the Penetrators come in and can usually punch through this.
    Again, home defense is one thing and planning for cross compatability situations is completely different. I also chose the Sub2000 for camping because the Penetrator rounds in 9MM has stopped big game (specifically a bear) and has proven itself to punch way above it’s weight class when used in the right guns with the right length barrels.
    So, the Sub2000 is faster to employ then the other two, much lighter then the other two, smaller (easier to pack and stuff into your truck) then the other two, can be converted to accept just about every major pistol manufacturers mags which the other two are are stuck with reliable Glock mags but you also have to be a Glock fanboy (shameless poke!).

    I have the RUGER PC chassis carbine with: 1.) Midwest Industries "folding buffer adaptor", LBE buffer tube and the original MOE adjustable stock for a great FOLDING stock. 2.)M*CARBO Mini Brake, mag release button, bolt extractor and pins, bolt buffer pad, bolt hold-open lever but NOT the trigger mod. 3.)MAGPUL forearm QD socket, MBUS sights, AFG fore grip, K-2 pistol grip, one or two point QD sling, MOE adjustable stock. This PC runs like a clock and eats any ammo. But a carbine this heavy needs that sling.
    -> TIP: Put a TACCOM or TANDEMKROSS ambidextrous dual lever safety on yer RUGER PC carbine. MUCH more ergonomic than that factory button safety.

I own a Gen 1 S2K, and have never had a complaint about its recoil, but it has a really heavy bolt and fairly sturdy recoil spring. Likewise, the Ruger's bolt design has been praised as mitigating recoil, but AR-9s in general have been criticized for their relatively heavy recoil. I've been regretting that decision for years. They do pop up on GunBroker every now and then. They usually cost more than the regular Sub 2000 but it's Corona 2020 now so the price will be in inflated more than usual.

    Well the problem I see with all 3 carbines is they have features that are currently banned in 10 states. That is something these videos fail to mention. I have a Ruger PC9 in the MAGPUL stock. Currently the PC9 are flying off the shelves here in the Northeast and NY. Now that the Henry Homesteader has been released, we need a review of born again Marlin Camp Rifle concept 😊

    Had the Ruger, sold it and built my own AR9. I hate the takedown feature of the Ruger, accuracy was not consistent with optics mounted on the reciever. I mounted a red dot where the rear sight goes and then it was a tack driver. With the AR9 accuracy is always dead on and is more modular.

    I have several Ar-15's in various calibers, even budget 5.56 is a lot more expensive than 9mm. Shooting on my property lower velocity 9mm is cheaper and safer than 5.56. For this reason I purchased the Ruger pcc and I have no regrets. It is the perfect plinking rifle. I think it is unfair to compare customized Keltecs to the other 2. I have Keltec pistols and like the company but my experience of the std Sub 2k led me to purchase the Ruger

    I will always have a soft spot for the Sub2000. I have no doubt that the others are better shooters, but the Sub2k is very accurate, very lightweight, stupid reliable and you can stuff it anywhere and deploy it from there in 2 seconds. The m-carbo stuff is nice, but you don't need it and it is an extremely inexpensive weapon without it. I own several at this point. Its not my favorite gun, but its probably the gun I am most fond of if that makes sense.

    I have the sub 2k and the Ruger P.C.9 . My P.C. is one of the older designs without the pistol grip. I do haver the M*Carbo flip up sight mount on my sub 2k. While I like the way the sub2k shoots I like the P.C. better. The sub 2k has the tendency to break charging handles. I have broken two already, the one that came with the gun and a M*Carbo replacement. I now keep a spare charging handle in the backpack I keep the gun in.

    First off. Love your channel! Alway great content and very detailed. Keep them coming. Now for my question. I am in the market for a PCC9. I had been leaning towards the Beretta CX4 Storm but after some additional research I have added the Sub2000 and the Ruger PC9 takedown to the mix. My intended use is the range and possibly home defense to go along with my FNS9. Have you had the opportunity to shoot the Beretta CX4 Storm? If so, what were your thoughts? If not, do you have any thoughts? I would love to have some additional information to help me with my final decision. Thanks.

    Great review. Nobody mentions that for lefties, the sub2000 spits lots of unburnt powder into your face. So lefties really should wear shooting glasses. But mostly i just squint when i don't have them on. It's a bit of a nuisance really. I don't know if the Ruger does that.
