- Hit and run on foot, that is.
This episode is interesting, as it shows some fundamentals of investigative technique. I'm curious to see what y'all's thoughts are and will leave the intro at that... other than to mention that the subject's shirt probably didn't help his story much.
Enjoy.

Congratulations on an amazing accomplishment. With no DWI's, you were extremely lucky. Thank God you are ok. Stay safe.
Congratulations on almost 5 years sober! Just the fact that you've not only escaped charges, but also escaped injury or death for 25 years says that there's a great purpose and plan for your life. I felt that way too until my son actually got arrested. While there three different people got stabbed, there were fights. A mentally challenged man was almost raped.
Did he deserve consequences and to sit in jail? Yep. Does he deserve to be raped or murdered because of a DWI? No. He was there three days and seeing others who were getting booked in the same detention center for violent crimes was fucking terrifying.

That mother is the biggest enabler I’ve EVER seen. Absolute BS that you’re babying your grown ass adult instead of letting him face the consequences of his actions.
This is the worst comment I've read so far. She is not "enabling" him. She's being a MOTHER. Telling her son it's gonna be okay, and to tell the truth. That is not enabling. Clearly your parents did not raise you in a good way if you think that's enabling.
@@Mymentoh😂😂😂 you’re hilarious. There’s a big difference between comforting and enabling. My parents raised me to deal with the consequences of my actions and taught me how to be an adult. This lady is quite literally trying to do all the things HE should be doing as an ADULT i.e calling his work, figuring out the tow & bond. How is that showing him that what he did was wrong? If that’s how easy it was for him the first time, he’ll definitely continue doing it again and again. Obviously my parents raised me properly bc I’m not the one out here drinking and driving 😂 I’ve never even been pulled over before.
@sewwithmo6618 That's great for you and I'm glad you have a clean record. You're right, he definitely should be doing all those things on his own. But I don't think someone that drunk is qualified to do those things. She wasn't pleading with the officers to let him off scotch free. Nor was she blaming them. She told him to stop lying, and tell the truth. Some people parent differently and it's definitely not fair to assume she's enabling. Maybe that's the first time she's done that? I have parents who also taught me to deal with consequences of my actions. I was put out on my ass a few months after I turned 18. But my brother who has the same parents is doing coke and treating us like garbage. Parenting doesn't always equate to how children turn out.

Also, they can get warrants to locate his location based on his phone GPS. Many, many ways to convict this guy.
@@DoctorChained He was obliterated and never once changed his story… now he gets to talk with his lawyer. Do you think his lawyer is going to see this footage and all of the sudden say, ‘hey, they’ve got nothing here but you better fess up?’ Maybe if he has the worst lawyer in history. Otherwise he beats the case easy.
This cop was beyond chill and tried to give him a chance
He did not just want to "give him a chance." He wanted a confession to seal the case, so there could be no arguing it/getting it thrown out in court. The witness couldn't identify him, the traffic cam wouldn't be able to identify him, and obviously his DNA would be in his own car. All he had to do was keep his mouth shut and a lawyer would have an easy win on this case for him. Officer knew he couldn't prove he was driving the car, so offered to "give him a chance" if he just admits to it. The court/judge needs *proof* beyond a reasonable doubt to convict someone, and the officer didn't have any
@@Proppur_ good point now that you put it that way . I bet a lot of cop try giving people “one last chance “ to tell the truth.
@@Proppur_ all true. BUT if he was actually telling the truth that he was innocent then he would be going above and beyond to convince the officer by filing the police report and he wouldn't be so worried about getting arrested as he clearly knew the plan would work In court. He couldn't hide his guilt tho. AND That's rly all that matters here is that he's not innocent.
@@Proppur_ Yes, obviously it wasn’t JUST that he wanted to give him a chance. He was doing his job as well and everything you said was correct of course. They’re just pointing out how the cop was quite reasonable and patient considering the situation.
He wants him to admit. He has nothing on him and the kid probably got away after going to court.
That’s amazing how that officer put that all together in the beginning so quickly. Damn he’s good

Had a friend pull this same crap. He wrecked not far from his house so he ran home and immediately reported the car stolen. Witnesses saw him running from the scene. The cops that showed up didn't give him any opportunities like this guy. He filled out the report and as soon as he signed they cuffed him lol.
lol same had a buddy wreck his car hammered drunk into a ditch close to a waffle house but he ran from the scene and tried to call it the next day but they towed it to a police lot for "under investigation" and he basically got a fleeing the scene charge and not a DUI, he ended up having to pay a crazy fine and had his insurance go up he said but I guess at least he didn't get DUI.
Lol I’m laughing bc Buddy probably thought he was home free up until that point

I can tell this cop tries to be as cool as possible in public - he probably gives so many breaks when he stops people for minor traffic violations
On one hand I wish I would’ve got this cop, in my instance I would’ve been sent back to bed (long story). On the other hand even though I never drive drunk the fact is one night I did and even though the cops didn’t see it, somebody did and called. I got taken off my couch and arrested. I never drove drunk but I was down a path that it could’ve become the norm and I’m just thankful it was the one time and I didn’t hurt anybody. No more alcohol, if I do somebody has my keys even if I intend on having one beer but it’ll be a long time, if ever, that I’ll even think about that. Been a long time, it still bothers me so much I don’t want to even try enjoying a beer at a bbq even at my house. It tears my up every time I think of what I did and what could’ve happened.

Mom's coddling is a GINORMOUS part of the problem!
I was always more afraid of letting my mother down than anything in the world. So I tried my best not to ever do anything wrong. I just cared that much about her that I didn't want her to be disappointed in me. And she was a single mom.
That mom is a horrible enabler. If either of my daughters drove drunk, crashed their car into another vehicle, ran from the scene of the accident, and then lied to the police reporting it stolen, I would not be rubbing their head saying “it’s ok baby”. I’d be furious at her and I’d be asking the cop to arrest her!!
Man, if I was DUI, the last person I'd want showing up at the scene would be my mother.
Well, your mom won't arrest you and charge you with DUI/DWI though so she's a far better option than a cop
I'd love it because it would mean my mom was alive! I'd even take 2 felonies for that.

No further problems.and he had to,pay back every cent of bail money.

He was probably trying to avoid doing extra work of proving the guys lies wrong. I don't blame him. Even though it's obvious he still has to prove it. Costs time and money too. Much easier for the guy to just confess. He's a real piece of shit costing everyone (taxpayers) more money for this BS. Wasting the cops' time...im sure they had more important stuff to do.
He's not "giving him chances." He's lying to the kid to get him to confess. The cop NEEDS that confession. There is zero proof otherwise. No witnesses who actually identified the kid, nobody who saw him driving. If the mom was smart, she'd know that they don't even have grounds to arrest him for DWI, since nobody saw him driving. Never know, some people have crazy lawyers that know the judges and are hard trial lawyers. I know a buddy that got out of 9 duis but his lawyer costs 10-15k a pop, a hard trial lawyer may have something here if the cop doesn’t have enough evidence. At the end of the day the cop really wanted a confession not because he was trying to help him out but because he didn’t want to have to do all the extra work it would be to try and gather the evidence to convince the court he was behind the wheel. And you can’t just say in court, well it’s “common sense” no you need hard evidence.
