I have also heard the variation on this: “If this broke would I be heartbroken or relieved?” It is usually relieved for me. And when I pass it along, I actually feel good letting it go! 😊
Hilary……..the shelves in your living room look sooooOoo much better with all the smaller baskets gone. It really looks great! You motivated me to do a whole house declutter today while it’s hot and muggy outside! Thank you for that!! ❤️❤️❤️🙏🏻
I recently had a rat in my very large linen closet. 😫 Talk about motivation to declutter the whole thing once the rat was dealt with! All had to then be scrubbed down & laundered. It also housed my vintage linen collection, some of which will now be sold or donated. Thanks for sharing each area, Hilary.
I love, love , love your taking the time to explain why you're donating certain items. It helps to know how to work through decluttering and the reasons why you might not want an item. I also sometimes feel entirely overwhelmed and discontent with my home and I've found that the solution is a good deep clean and declutter and it makes me feel like I'm in a brand new home 😊 my basement utility room is my nemesis.....so much stuff and not knowing how to store that kind of stuff. Coolers, seldom used laundry and cleaning supplies, plant pots, etc Maybe that'll be a winter project LoL thank you for such an entertaining and informative video ...your hard work is very much appreciated 😊
The Artist "Elyse" works in oil sell online and in galleries for between 90.00 and 200.00 as a 1950's artwork on average. In case you want to sell . Or surprise someone at the donation centre.
I stopped keeping my Bible study notebooks. I never go back to them. I enjoy your decluttering videos. They are so motivating. I keep donation bags going all the time, but this was a good reminder that I could find more if I did an intentional declutter.
Keep the brass easel, I have several styles, I place plates or small platters, any pretty china I want to display. They will also hold art in frames especially on my mantle. I so enjoy your vlogs, you remind me of me, in that I loved my children ,husband and home and being a Christian. Mother of four and now grandmother of twelve. God Bless you and your family. ♥️♥️
I did a remodel last year and couldn't fit everything back, so I did a huge declutter! There were a few things I wish I hadn't gotten rid of, but none were that sentimental. My sister still has stuffed animals from her childhood, her house looks like a hoard and I feel bad for her. I think we forget that you can still have the memories without having the stuff.
Amazing purge! Although it a looks like you did this in several days ( hint: change of outfits) with ease but you can tell how easily it is for you to move about the house and easily declutter.because you declutter often. This testimony to how important it is to purge your even daily so when you do these type of whole house decluttering becomes easier and easier. Kudos! 💜 I do the perpetual decluttering system (daily) and I usually end up filling one box by the end of the month (maybe 30 items?) and then I take it to goodwill. 👍💜
Oh my Hillary! What a perfect time for this video! I’m at a stage in life where a major downsizing declutter of the entire home is needed, even though I do seasonal decluttering regularly. I just watched Cass on Clutterbug interview Peter Walsh; so motivated! I then found hoopla has his audiobook, Its All Too Much, which I listen to while decluttering, and it is so empowering, and like having a professional working with you. Highly recommend for those who feel the need and the struggle to lighten up. Very nice work in all your spaces! 🤩
I really like your mature decisions about sentimental items. When you say "we are not in this season of life anymore" about your sweet sixteen black purse it's really true but often hard to admit. I'm older than you but still have difficulties to make such mature and good decisions 😊
Hi, this is the first time I watch your channel. I'm happy you find it easy to declutter. I wish I would've began doing it decades ago. Now, I'm at a point that once something is gone, there is no replacement. I watched a professional organizer/ declutterer. One of her videos was about money wasted. How much it costs including relationships, time management's, interests and everything else that is sacrificed due to holding on to clutter. It was an eye opener for me. Since 2014 I've been decluttering. Unfortunately most of the things I've replaced because I thought I needed updated things. Which defeats the purpose. I've learned that whatever I find at the store, see on adds, magazines. I just look at them and think about it. After a month I look at it again and if I just like it and don't need it, I leave it alone. However, if it is something that will make my life easier and will use it constantly, I'll get it. I have learned to be a conscientious shopper. Instead of wasting money buying something I just like, I rather save it for something I will really enjoy with my family and will be memorable for years to come.
This was so inspiring, thankyou! Is anyone else shocked that you have an entire closet in your smallish home that is completely empty?! Amazing! I realize in my decluttering how sentimental I am. Its hard work emotionally. I have a hard time letting go of decor, because I enjoy change and it is so delightful to me to pull out something I haven't used in awhile and use it again or repurpose it. But I too live in a smallish home with 4 kids and we homeschool, so space is very valuable. I love hearing you process how you make decisions to let go of certain things. It really helps give me new categories to make those decisions. Great work, Hilary!
That closet is mostly used for guests when they come over (I would shove all the dress up clothes in a bin elsewhere when they’d come) so I don’t really consider it usable space. I think just allowing yourself a decor closet/shelf with a defined space will tell you how much to keep and which items you really value. I too love decor but I just have to be honest with myself about how often I’m really using these items and if I bring in something new something else has to go. I’ve also leaned in more to consumable/natural decor that I can toss when the season is over. Hope that helps!
Watching elli hurst’s vlogs this month, especially in her temporary home, has inspired me to do the same! Room by room. Love the “would I repurchase this” and making sure as your kids’ interests change, “out with the old”!
Oh my goodness. After the first declutter section of this video, I paused it and went to my kitchen and made huge progress! And now I am motivated to continue. Thank you , thank you, thank you!!
Very motivating Hilary! I actually just donated about 5 bags to the Vietnam Veterans of America today. I still feel like I have too much stuff even though I have halted my “knick Knack” purchases and have gotten rid of tons of clothes since I am retired. You have inspired me to keep digging deeper!
When I get started decluttering sometimes I find it hard to stop! I’m not a person that has to hold onto everything. But if I like it - it’s staying for sure!
I agree, the boost I feel after de-cluttering is amazing. My family all has fall birthdays and then the holidays so we just passed a bunch of toys along to new homes. ♥️
Good gracious! My mum worked at the Keillors restaurant in Dundee and then Montrose many years ago! Keillors were well known here in Scotland. The factory closed down in the 90’s I think. They were also famous for their Dundee cake. That brought back memories seeing the marmalade jar! I wish I had one of those! Great video Hilary.
Yes! I feel like a brand new person whenever I declutter! I shared a thrifted decor declutter video on my channel and love the route of simplifying seasonal decor now😀
This is awesome! You are inspiring me. I'm hopeful that I can spend some time doing this next week! Thank you for your dedication to RUclips videos. I love them and you are always such a joy to watch.
Beginning of this year I have been decluttering my entire house. I know it’s a process and it’s never ending, but I know it gets easier the more you do it!! Great video 😊😊😊.
We do this a few times a year too. We get our kids involved with the decluttering and yard sale. We’ll take the money we make to do a family activity & anything left from the yard sale goes straight for donation.
I kept just a couple of my high school outfits and dresses bc they were classic enough that I just kept wearing them into my (late) 20s. My now 16 year old daughter just found them in my closet and claimed them for herself 😂😂😂
Hillary were always on the same wave length… I thrifted last week, bought all 100% cotton, linen, rayon, I decluttered any polyester that happened to be in my closet this week..I have gotten so picky with the material on the clothing I buy… Have a great weekend, it always amazes me how we can do a little decluttering and it feels so good.
Loved the video. Yes, you always motivate me. We were gone for the month of June and decluttering was a priority for me when we returned. I do it ongoing like you but right now I’m doing a larger purge.
Oh I would love to have the little puppy match holder! It's so sweet! Love your declutter videos. They inspire me to look through my own home. Have a lovely weekend!
Your taste is books is so much like mine, Hilary…I have read all of the ones you showed and I ,too, didn’t LOVE the Vanishing Half! Great motivation for decluttering , thanks.
I love how you can get rid of the kids toys, I always have a problem doing that. I feel like what if they want them when they have kids etc.. lol But my house is so cluttered with toys😭 I need to just purge!!
I agree , after a declutter, I feel so good that I have decreased the amount of things I am responsible for. I always keep my bible study workbooks with the intention of reading them again but never do. So in 6 or so months I throw them out. Funny how I just can’t do it immediately. Great job Hillary.
WOW!! You did amazing! We are about to move and I can't tell you how much I have gotten rid of. I'm sure once we unpack there will be even more. I love downsizing STUFF!
If I wasn't leaving on vacation tomorrow I would be decluttering. You are such a good motivator. I just had my kitchen walls an cabinets painted so when I put my kitchen back together I will purge.
I bought those too….and hate them. Everything sticks to the hangers so it’s not as easy to get the hanger on or off. I sold them on Facebook and repurchased nice plastic ones 😂
I love to declutter in the summertime. I always have box in the garage where I can deposit things, periodically. I am in a current state of sorting thorugh things to try to seel on MP and things to just donate.
Off topic but what is the item on your bed between your comforter and sheet (also where did you purchase it)? I’m redoing my bed and I like that layered look you have on your bed. Thanks in advance.
I get so annoyed with myself when I get the motivation to clean and organize after 10pm 🤣 But watch movies during the day when I could be more productive. One time I was decluttering at 1:00am after watching these kind of videos 🙄
It will take a lot of motivation and energy to do what I'd like to do. Although we donate many things and have donation baskets , still many things I think we might use later. We enjoyed orbeez..very unique. Do your children get to decide what gets donated of their items?
I would be very interested and appreciative of any tips, advice you could pass on regarding how to help kids let go and pass on old toys, surplus, toys they rarely if ever use etc. My daughter seems to be so emotionally attached and sentimental, it is very hard for her to donate things and let them go. Any ideas on how to ease this?
Hi Hilary, thank you for posting this helpful video:) I definitely need to do more decluttering. I wanted to ask if you have ever had or thought about having a garage sale to sell all of your unwanted items or is it best to just donate everything in your opinion? Thanks!
We did a garage sale once in our old house and it just wasn’t worth the effort. I’d much rather have the freed up space and peace of mind immediately by donating vs spending an entire day/weekend sorting and pricing and potentially donating what doesn’t sell. If I think an item is worth $20/30 or more I would try to sell it on Facebook marketplace
Keep that little metal easel/ stand that you liked, and use it for a plate stand, a small painting, seasonal decor; not just for laptops.
Curious. Where are the kiddos? That’s when mine would suddenly fall in love with EVERYTHING😂
Mine too! 😅😂☺️
Haven’t played with it in years... sees you..... I love it, it cannot go lol 😂😂
yes, yes, yes! I so love decluttering and organizing. It makes my house seem lighter and more livable:) God bless
Our house was in a bad flood in 1996 so when I am decluttering I ask myself "Would I clean mud off this?" 😃😃
Good question!!
I have also heard the variation on this: “If this broke would I be heartbroken or relieved?” It is usually relieved for me. And when I pass it along, I actually feel good letting it go! 😊
😂🤣
That’s a new perspective! 😀
Those disasters are so hard! Glad you gained a beneficial perspective from a bad experience. That a great question!
Hilary……..the shelves in your living room look sooooOoo much better with all the smaller baskets gone. It really looks great! You motivated me to do a whole house declutter today while it’s hot and muggy outside! Thank you for that!! ❤️❤️❤️🙏🏻

Minimal Mom has a decluttering Olympics going on and I am participating. This week is the paper high jump and we are measuring by the inch!

oh my goodness...it is my thrifting dream to find one of those marmalade jars! did you already get rid of it? i'll buy it from you!
That little stand would also have been great for a cookbook, a painting, a plate…
You can use the thing you used for iPad for a framed photo or art on a table
Well I know what I’m doing today! Decluttering!!
I love a good house declutter! It always feels so nice to purge and get rid of things we no longer use. Those cookies look good too;)
I truly like your living room shelves. They are comfortable, look warm and as a home should look. Well done! I need to get busy!
Thank you! One of our favorite parts of the home too!
You should put hooks in the dress up closet. You make everything look easy! Happy Summer!!
When I get started decluttering sometimes I find it hard to stop! I’m not a person that has to hold onto everything. But if I like it - it’s staying for sure!
I want that little picture!
I agree, the boost I feel after de-cluttering is amazing. My family all has fall birthdays and then the holidays so we just passed a bunch of toys along to new homes. ♥️
That was very motivating seeing you declutter so much! Thank you! 😊
I enjoyed this video very much. You are so sensible and yes you are motivating. Thank you!
I’ve been away for awhile and coming back to this decluttering video was very encouraging
I’m currently Decluttering for a fall garage sale. It is work but the feeling afterwards is great.❤

Great decluttering! I'm glad my mother didn't get rid of my Barbies. I recently sold one of them for $230.
This was incredibly satisfying. Thank you for all of the motivation 💛
Yes! I feel like a brand new person whenever I declutter! I shared a thrifted decor declutter video on my channel and love the route of simplifying seasonal decor now😀

I wish I could buy that Dundee jar!!
Beginning of this year I have been decluttering my entire house. I know it’s a process and it’s never ending, but I know it gets easier the more you do it!! Great video 😊😊😊.
It definitely gets easier, and makes you more intentional about what you're bringing in!
I keep looking forward to that day. I thought I would do a lot on summer break but it just really has not happened.
We do this a few times a year too. We get our kids involved with the decluttering and yard sale. We’ll take the money we make to do a family activity & anything left from the yard sale goes straight for donation.
You are so inspiring Hilary! Thank you so much for these videos🤗 You are making a difference in the lives of so many. I just love you 😘🤗
So motivating!! It's so hot here un Alabama, that its a great time to do it. Thanks for sharing!
The three baskets in lroom cabinet. One looks different than other 2. Maybe it could be in middle at bottom?
I kept just a couple of my high school outfits and dresses bc they were classic enough that I just kept wearing them into my (late) 20s. My now 16 year old daughter just found them in my closet and claimed them for herself 😂😂😂
JUST what I needed to see today, before I work on my own decluttering project (Laundry/mudroom) - it feels SO good to do clutter weeding! great job!
Love that idea, clutter weeding! Things do spring up all over when we're not paying attention ;)
Terrific job decluttering!❤
It was motivating to me ; I don’t have your energy but you did motivate me to to go a little at a time. Thank you 🥰
Hillary were always on the same wave length… I thrifted last week, bought all 100% cotton, linen, rayon, I decluttered any polyester that happened to be in my closet this week..I have gotten so picky with the material on the clothing I buy…
Have a great weekend, it always amazes me how we can do a little decluttering and it feels so good.
That's wonderful, enjoy!
Except they wrinkle so much ☹️
Keep the Fisher Price for grandchildren! Trust me.
Hillary, this is extremely motivating for me! Thank you.
Don’t get rid of the metal plate holder!! It would look AWESOME with a beautiful plate on it in bookcases!
Yes, I would keep it also. It's very pretty, I'd find a use for it.
Thank you for this, Hilary! I am going to do a major declutter of our homeschool supplies next week. Your video made me feel excited!
You’re inspiring me to do a major declutter. Thank you!
I'm watching this and currently working on decluttering stuff in my house! You always inspire me to do my best! Love from Maine❤
You had me on de clutter until you said you were purging the Dundee jar! How English could you get! Don’t get rid of it. Send to me. LOL
Your taste is books is so much like mine, Hilary…I have read all of the ones you showed and I ,too, didn’t LOVE the Vanishing Half! Great motivation for decluttering , thanks.
I love how you can get rid of the kids toys, I always have a problem doing that. I feel like what if they want them when they have kids etc.. lol
But my house is so cluttered with toys😭 I need to just purge!!
Thanks for sharing! You have me motivated to tackle my own home 😊❤
Excellent job Hillary. I love the way the dining room cabinet turned out. Have a nice evening. 👏🏻😁
Great declutter!! Just ordered those cookies!! I’m so excited! 🎉
Good work! You are quick to let things go!
I agree , after a declutter, I feel so good that I have decreased the amount of things I am responsible for. I always keep my bible study workbooks with the intention of reading them again but never do. So in 6 or so months I throw them out. Funny how I just can’t do it immediately. Great job Hillary.
Amazing job!!!❤❤ God bless and see you soon!
Enjoyed your video, helped me to feel motivated . Thank you
U motivate me. Thank you!
Such a satisfying declutter!
Thanks for sharing, Hillary ❤
Such a good feeling, isn’t it ❤️
WOW!! You did amazing! We are about to move and I can't tell you how much I have gotten rid of. I'm sure once we unpack there will be even more. I love downsizing STUFF!
Inspirational! Tfs ! Just bought an air fryer and it’s causing major reorganising! To have out or in the pantry? Xxx
I love your decluttering videos and I am majorly motivated to go through my house this weekend!
If I wasn't leaving on vacation tomorrow I would be decluttering. You are such a good motivator. I just had my kitchen walls an cabinets painted so when I put my kitchen back together I will purge.
yessssss, waiting on our kitchen reno to be complete so I can do this too!!! ty for the motivation!
Total motivation to declutter.
This video has me thinking about the areas of my home that need decluttering again.
I bought those skinny velvet hangers and gave away my bulky wooden hangers. I have so much more room to see my clothing. It’s surprising.
I bought those too….and hate them. Everything sticks to the hangers so it’s not as easy to get the hanger on or off. I sold them on Facebook and repurchased nice plastic ones 😂
You always motivate me!!!!
Awesome job....and yes very motivating ~ I love decluttering!!! Less is always more!!
I love to declutter in the summertime. I always have box in the garage where I can deposit things, periodically. I am in a current state of sorting thorugh things to try to seel on MP and things to just donate.
Oh the garage is a whole 'nother project ;) Hope your selling goes well!
Off topic but what is the item on your bed between your comforter and sheet (also where did you purchase it)? I’m redoing my bed and I like that layered look you have on your bed. Thanks in advance.
I hoped to get inspired with your show to do some decluter , thank you .
Saw theseimmer shirt for fabric it's so cute
Feeling motivated!!!!!!
This was so motivating that I started cleaning my room at 10:15pm!! Thanks Hillary for this longer video too 😊 how is Finn? ❤❤
I get so annoyed with myself when I get the motivation to clean and organize after 10pm 🤣 But watch movies during the day when I could be more productive. One time I was decluttering at 1:00am after watching these kind of videos 🙄
@@lovingsunshine3515 right! 👍😂
Interesting video. That darling brass stand might hold that beautiful little painting you have. I would keep them both!😊
HAPPY FRIDAY Hillary and family! STTB
So motivating!! Thank you.
It will take a lot of motivation and energy to do what I'd like to do. Although we donate many things and have donation baskets , still many things I think we might use later. We enjoyed orbeez..very unique. Do your children get to decide what gets donated of their items?
Great job Hilary! 💕
Impressive decluttering! Do you itemize the items you donate? I find this slows me down with moving things out of the house.
Nope never 💛
You did an amazing declutter. I have been going through more stuff this summer, hopefully can get rid of more.
Great job. Now I feel like doing that at my home ❤😊
