A tip for anyone watching, schedule the clean out right before the yard sale. Instead of so many different categories,( donate,no buy site, yard sale, etc) just sell everything and have a free pile, shoppers love that and you don’t have to take it anywhere. If you had put your bikes and other keepers that could have been out back in the weather for a week, you could set up tables at the front of the garage and put the sale stuff on it. Plan on having the sale for at least Friday and Saturday. ( some even do a Thursday evening preview from 4 to 7pm) Have your husband or responsible teenager be the cashier, while you continue to go through more stuff, (maybe not sentimental) which you can keep putting out on the sale tables. This makes for a more streamlined approach and is very motivating to keep plowing through.
I love this idea! We honestly had too many moving parts and things going on to successfully pull all of that off this go-round but if we find ourselves in this situation again, I surely will try this! I love the idea of it all!
Yr right Love this approach to garage sale and cleaning It makes sense having a free pile of stuff as people like to look through it and it’s less to take to a op shop /charity shop Cheers 🥂 Yr in the ball ⚽️ with organising Australia 🇦🇺 👍👍👍
@@fayeashcroft7066 I host a garage sale for two consecutive weekends every spring and fall while cleaning out my house and garage. After my tables are set up in my garage, my friends give me whatever they were going to get rid of and let me keep the money. I always make at least $1000.00 for the two weekends,( even with EVERYTHING being half price on the second Saturday) then donate two mini van loads to my local animal shelter thrift shop with whatever didn’t sell. I never have to do any cleaning in my garage the rest of the year because of the twice a year cleaning and we park both of our cars inside.🙌🏻
It really is! It’s so easy to just set things in the garage when you need to…then it just adds up! Nice work chipping away at your’s too…we’ve got this! 💪
Yay! Progress! Been there done that several times over in my garage. My motivation was to put my new really nice car inside to protect that huge investment. Couldn’t see how keeping paper and junk from years ago that I wasn’t using instead of protecting my new car. So needless to say I had quite a purge. I still catch myself just cramming stuff here and there and now go out weekly to deal with say a one or two foot area at a time. Small bites have been helpful to avoid bein overwhelmed. Looking forward to more progress!!! So happy you are painting. It will look great! ❤
I love your perspective! And I love that you still carve out time each week to help maintain the space…that is my end goal too! 🤞 Thank you for your kind words!
Thank you! I know my grandparents would not be mad if I passed them along to someone who would love them, but it’s such a heart tugging decision to make!
Awesome job ! I love how calm are your videos and how sweet you are I'm not sure buying storage for the ceiling is a "good" idea because, the more you can stock, the more you stock ! It's the biggest trap ever ...

I do love to use the local buy nothing fb group to donate items and will sometimes sell items on fb on the local buy, sell, trade pages, but my kids are for sure excited to do a yard sale. We used to do a yearly one which cut down on the clutter and making some extra money was always fun…we’ve skipped the last few summers and are excited to get back at it! 😊
First time viewer from central Georgia where it has been so hot also. The horror story of your move to this house was awful. We have moved many times but only twice had to store things. Both were due to the new house not being finished, and we still had a place to live. You show real motivation to begin this job on a hot Fourth of July!! With the dump run and the garage sale done hopefully you two are able to really see some progress which is a wonderful motivator. Good idea about setting up the table to sort bins in the cooler hours. I love to see before and after photos. Thanks for sharing work work and looking forward to Part 2.
Hope it’s starting to cool off a bit there for you. It’s still so hot here but slowly chipping away at the garage. Can’t wait to show you the full after footage…I really enjoy before and afters too! 🥰
Great job! Looking forward to part 2 & maybe 3 if u need it!👍🏻 U guys may want to consider a shed if poss for all the bikes & kids cars to open more garage space for ur vehicles!;)
Thank you so much! You are quite possibly right with needing 2 more videos…we’ll see! 😉 We’ve talked about that but it makes it hard for the kids to access the bikes on a daily basis if they are in a shed in our locked up back yard. They get them out multiple times a day, but believe me…we’ve considered it many times! We have one already where we store our yard equipment and love it! Thank you so much for your kind words and for watching!
My son and I have been in our house for 7.5 years. Sadly the garage is similar. Moved items in the garage and need to go through everything. It is a two car. His car is in but not mine. Cleaning it is on my agenda this year. Looks good with what you were able to get done. Look forward to seeing future progress m.
I'm in the process of cleaning out my garage and storage room after living here 20 years. Had you thought of renting the new home for a month since the closing got pushed back based on the buyers. It would be worth the money to make it easier and the sellers would probably give a good price since the home was sitting empty anyways.
You’ve got this! 💪 We didn’t, only because first it was just going to be delayed a couple days, then it turned into a week. Either way, we knew it was coming really soon! But I have heard of many people doing that and it seems to work out so smoothly for many. Best wishes as you work on your garage too!
I have my grandmother's china that we never use. It sits in my china hutch. I thought about just keeping like the extra plates to hang as decor and get rid of the rest, but it's definitely sentimental clutter.

Oh lord!.what is the point of having a garage if you can not park in it. I wonder what the attic looks like? I hope you and your family accomplish your goal for the garage.
I know! 🤦♀️ However, it’s very common where I live to not park in the garage…many people use the garage for storage or as an extension of the home (workspace, home gym, etc). My goal, obviously, is to park in there though! 🤞 And no attic here!
Are you in USA? Massive house and garden and so much space and you don’t have space to store your family heirlooms. Every time I watch US based RUclipsr saying this, I can’t help but laugh and imagine how they would manage here in UK in the dinky shoe box houses here?
Yes, I am in the USA. I’m sure this is relative to everyone, all around the world. There is always someone with less space than you, more space than you, etc. And each person’s perspective would be so very different on these things. I’m sure it is odd to hear for you, but then for us if we have not known or lived differently, this is our reality. And I’m the first to admit I have too much “stuff” and so do most Americans/many others around the world. But that’s part of why I’m here; trying to change that! 😊 Thank you for watching!
Your story about your move makes ZERO sense. The buyer of YOUR original home had the problem, not the seller of the home you bought!. Your original home's sale was delayed, why would you then have to move prematurely, putting your things in your new home's garage before that seller left when it was to have been a simultaneous transaction? What am I missing here?
Hi! It was definitely difficult to explain all the moving parts (no pun intended) in a tiny little bit of time in my video! I won’t type out ALL the details because it would take forever, but to sum it up…the people who owned this house had already moved out and were super kind. When they heard there was a hold up with the financing from the buyers of our old house but that it should be resolved in the next few days (and that we had a team of people ready to help us move most of our stuff on a weekend), they allowed us to move everything into the garage. There are rules about NOT letting people move things into an actual dwelling due to insurance in these situations, but garages are a loophole and apparently this is fairly common (or used to be) in the area where I live. So anyway…we moved almost everything into the garage, then the few days until the official closing ended up getting extended AGAIN, which is also when we all got miserably sick. Looooong story that I try to block out! 😉 Hopefully that clears up some of the confusion. Thanks for watching!
Likely the funds had to wrap from one top the other and that's why it was supposed to be simultaneous. Their moving help was already scheduled and that's why it was helpful to move before close.
