Do you know why the GS damage is so variable?? If you're looking for people to chat, game or just to make friends you're welcome in our discord!! - discord.gg/M7SsDMVMhv
Just out of curiosity, is there a talisman or at least an armor set that has the part breaker skill and the weak point skill. Those two skills together can really destroy monster parts and if there is a talisman with those skills, with your greatsword set in this video that will be extremely powerful in challenging battles.
most likely it is due to fluctuating values. Maybe all of your attacks can hit for 30 percent less to 30 percent more damage and you really start to notice once you have big critical hits. JRPGs such as Persona or Octopath Traveler have such mechanics too
I do think there's a dice roll behind the scenes, but the crit seems to multiply after the roll, which is why high rolls do so much more damage than low rolls
@@femthingevelyn since you can swap mulipliers freely and crits most likely are just multipliers too I don't think there is anything special to the order when you get your roll multiplied. Still, heavier hits in general make it more visible as both of us have pointed out already
1) monster parts have different resistances 2) Wining H2H increases the damage even if you don't have Showdown 3) if you win a H2H and Do have Showdown True Wide Slash is amazing. Breaking the part also boosts the damage of that hit. No damage isn't random there's stuff that affects it. Using the Double attacks gets you a good amount of Kinship so you waste less time.
Different monster parts on the same monster have different defense even if all the parts are weak to the same type of damage. I was farming Rathian at the beginning with the great sword and damage to the head was consistent amongst the Rathian and the damage was different to the tail compared to the head.
Seems kinda obvious now that I think about it, especially considering how many of the character and monstie stats are hidden (which is ridiculously stupid design imo).
Have experienced the same thing with GS. But the damage it brings is too good to pass up. I can't find much of a reason to use Sword/Shield over GS as a result; S&S don't really do anything besides provide some light calc defense and the ability to counter random attacks that you can't otherwise double team.
Yeah, the only reason to really mess with the S&S is for the ones with higher status chances, like the Rathian one's ability to apply Noxious Poison. This is assuming a bunch of the mechanics for how status chances work (multiple hits are more desirable, etc.)
Its probably because each part has an effectiveness level is what i call it for example a tiger rex head and kezu head are both weak to GS but tiger rex head is 5 blocks weak while kezu is 4 blocks weak
I wonder if they added an rng variable to the damage calc to simulate the inconsistency/timing difficulty of the greatsword in the mainline games. High risk, high reward.
Have you guys considered making monstie rankings within attack types and elements? It would be helpful for teambuilding to see comparisons between direct competition.
@@Clavitz1 Dude.. you get a charge pretty much when you or your monster are being focused anyway... If it's you being targeted just win the HtH. If it's your monstie, just check to make sure they've got the right thing goin on so they are going to win the HtH, and then make sure you're attacking using that type as well- Boom! Double attack! Both scenarios result in a charge block as both scenarios are you winning a HtH which is what Hammer requires for a charge. You can do this with Reverto too (because you're a man of culture, you use Reverto obvs), if you double attack with him.
I was using SnS until now, and yeah I felt like it was better, lesser cost of kinship gauge and like in regular games I was thinking that the more hits you land while using an elemental weapon the better it is. And in HR after finishing the story, I started to reconsider which one's better, the damages in double attacks (which I loved) seems really good to me with GS.
Thank you for this video - I had slept on the Greatsword for the same reason - SnS gave decent damage + Defense but I tried Greatsword last night using the above mentioned abilities in the video and man does it speed up story fights. If you save the charge for a knockdown you can do INSANE damage even at low levels in a single turn. Story monsters which have significantly less HP pools than say Royals, usually around 3-7K hp for a story monster can lose over HALF of their HP on a single knock down. I was fighting a Jade Barroth (I'm level 21) and knocked him down and my GS Charged attack did 850 dmg + Naracuga did another 400 damage and then my Story NPCs did their Kinship ability for 875 damage and the Jade Barroth was killed in like 3 turns having done 2125 damage on a single turn at level 21. Crazy damage on knockdowns is possible very early on.
Lol. I'm way ahead of you guys on this one! Haha. Been running this build since 4 days ago, good video. Sad now to see everyone is gonna run it. Also yes, some monster parts take less damage. The tail in particular is very tanky! The stomach is the weakest and what you should use your kinship and power abilities on. I like to use super whetstones as well or use the horn buff for an overall 5 turn team buff. Super whet i prefer as it uses no kinship.
I've been using Reverto as the post-game companion just because it gives me a 2 in 3 chance to have the monsters target something I control. At the same time, I feel like he does SO MUCH more damage than anything else.
I've been getting some crazy numbers with my hammer. Recently, I was able to get over 4000 damage using the burnblast chaser+ at level 70! Spinning meteor on a downed monster easily does over 2000 to 3000 damage.
It's not random, there are 3 different weapon types Slash; Great sword, sword and shield. Blunt; Hammer; Hunting horn. Pierce; Bow, gunlance, There are markers on Monsters and their parts have a weakness to one of these types.
the crit chance on your talisman and weapon along with the non elemental gs boost, might be overloading the dmg cap or smth when you're hitting those parts, you might hit a part that's weak to gs, you proc the crit and it overloads with all the buffs, could be a glitch
I'm a little late here, this breakdown is on point and gives me an idea of how I want to build my character. But I would also like to see your thoughts on a gunlance build. Gunlance has been my favorite weapon in every Monster Hunter game to date.
Dont forget the hammer, if you have a parapoison/blastfire/sleepseal chaser+ skill and get a crit you can get ridiculous damage. With a lvl 3 low rank tigrex hammer I hit a crit of 2083, without elementless bonus
well, depending on your weapon, the dmg could change. fire weapon vs ice monsters for instance, your dmg will be through the roof, but if you go against something that's either already fire based, or something not weak against fire the dmg will either be just normal, or lower than normal, etc. I don't think there's anything like a crit dmg multiplier in the game, I could be wrong but I haven't seen one yet, unless the stones affect the dmg from the crits as well as just a higher crit chance? haven't really tested that yet lol
Why did they make it so that the talismans have one name but the skills have another name? The genes are the same way: the genes have a name and the skills have a different one
I saw it floating around somewhere that each weapon has a couple different three hit combo sequences (like power+power+power). I have no idea if it's true, but if it is that might explain the difference in hit values. Sometimes you're incidentally doing a combo, other times you aren't?
When You do much lower damage is it in the same scenario every time or does the lower damage only happen when the monster targets someone else. Because I’m pretty sure winning a head to head will result in you doing increased damage with that attack, that could be what’s going on
Lmao, I was playing with greatsword hitting big numbers and am like is paradise serious about sword and shield being better. Lmao, here's my set up, GS, H, GL.
I'm glad greatsword is doing well now. I think in 3ds stories sns was way better because it had so many skills but I'm glad they made greatsword what it was meant to be, a very offensive weapon
You crit sometimes because that 4% on your gear..5 % with 5 hits..that's 25%.maybe that's why you got sometimes..the crit chance. Defense on some parts of the enemy would be a hidden mechanic. And if that's so..then you would (in theory) crit more. Look at how many times you crit n try to count them..tally up the number..and their you'll find your answer.
how are you doing so much damage? i have the same build, (though weak point L tallisman without anything added). But my bloodbath diablos weapon is lvl 5 yet i never crit above 1500 on monsters like dread queen, elders etc. And i have no idea if iḿ doing something wrong or not but its really confusing :(
Especially in post-game, it's amazing. Not only his damage, but because he doesn't have a monster himself, you get 2/3rds chance for the monster to target you or your monster for an easier Double.
When I hit with charged slash, I only hit for around 600 damage.. unless the monster is knocked down. Sometimes I only hit for around 300. My massacre slicer and bloodbath armor are fully upgraded and everything. I'm using a Breaker XL and Crit-Kin XL talisman. What am I doing wrong?
That's my guess too as I've been trying to use the most effective damage type for the monster part once I find out what it is. It seems to make a big damage difference but I'm still earlier in the game. I have a charm that boosts damage when you use the effective damage type too which is nice
At ~3:57 he says it's the same move on the same monster part, so there shouldn't be any variation on weapon effectiveness. I suspect they added an element of rng to the damage calc to simulate the inconsistency/timing difficulty of the greatsword in the mainline MH games.
