I played a ton of baseball in my younger years, and was a pretty good contact hitter. But, I recall (all too well) being invited to play in softball games - slow-pitch - and doing nothing but striking out the whole game. Once you master hitting a ball coming in relatively straight, it's impossible to hit one falling down from the sky, as it does in slow-pitch. Fast-pitch softball (like in the clip) is better in that the ball is coming in relatively straight, but still the release point is entirely different than in baseball, so it really does take a lot of getting used to. All that said, the girl was terrific, and it's good that she put all those idiots on their asses.
It shouldn’t be so bad that you strike out. I understand missing a few but it is still hand eye coordination. I played low A ball and still play slowpitch softball every now and then, even one pitch leagues.

I got better after a while, but still struggled to put it over the fence. Of the 6 years I played in the army, I put maybe 5 over. This young lady is showing all the expert training she’s had. My daughter was the starting pitcher from the 9th grade straight to graduation at her high school but she practiced all winter long with a pitching coach that taught her well
When my daughter was in high school, she wanted to play softball. They never won a game in their first year. I had her trained to pitch. After that, they never lost another game. You do not want to get hit by a pitch. I was so proud of her.

The softball coach made us stand in and take pitches against one of her varsity pitchers - Mid American Conference (Central Michigan University). Absolutely one of the scariest moments of my life. Apparently I struck out on three straight pitches, which is funny, because I don't remember seeing any of them :-)
Not only did she smoke those guys- she did it with a light heart. Mind you, some of those football players had no clue how to swing a bat, but that girl can really pitch.

The best softball players struggle to hit a baseball, and the best baseball players struggle to hit a softball.

My schools baseball team is almost entirely made up of football players... just because they're in football gear doesn't mean they aren't baseball players.
They don't mention just how fast a girls pitch is from such close range. It's probably like hitting 100mph on a mens diamond. Those girls have crazy fast reaction in the batters box.
If those are football players I want them on our schedule, those are the most unathletic looking players I have seen. The pitcher is the beast devouring the least.

As a man that has played both semi-pro baseball and fast pitch softball I can tell you the distance between softball pitching rubber and home plate and the ability of pitchers to make fastballs rise makes hitting the softball much more difficult when a good pitcher is bringing it like this young lady is. I can’t believe the bravery and toughness of the catcher with no chest protector and shin guards isn’t getting recognized.

What I found odd about this whole video is that, while it was an event that was clearly planned out, the pitcher is in jeans, the catcher is in jeans, many of the hitters are in loafers or cowboy boots and the hitters aren't wearing helmets. Anyway, the editing made it difficult to get a good look at any of the pitches, but I'd estimate she was around 59-62 mph. Her rise ball is what they couldn't hit, which is typical because it is visually deceiving and takes time to learn how to hit. She pretty much never put one in the strike zone, which makes it nearly impossible to hit. If these were true at-bats and the boys took some pitches and made her throw strikes, well, most of these guys probably still wouldn't hit the ball. There were only one or two with decent swings. It's not the speed that makes it difficult for guys or non-softball players to hit, it's the movement and the deception. It was impossible to get a good look at any of her pitches, but assuming she has better control than she showed here, I'd guess she is at the level of somewhere between a very good D3 and a low-level D1 type of pitcher.

Me too. My daughter also played travel ball from 9 years to 18 years old. Some of the best memories I have. She went on to play college ball but I miss the travel ball.
My high school sweetheart use to do softball and I'm not saying boys don't put in the work. But she was so passionate about it and was very fierce about the game and I'd be willing to bet she still is... Keep up the good work girls
This reminds me of my HS baseball team. Our girls' softball team had an Olympic team alternate as a pitcher. We lined up on the the softball field and one of us out of our starting lineup got a hit off of her. She had a WICKED curve. Translated to a baseball diamond, she also had a low-90s FB as a 16 year old. It was hilarious.

Love this. 10 years ago my traveling mens softball was challenged by a girls team. A full on scrimmage game was played. We could not hit off her. She was whippin that arm and striking us out! Mad prop's to them.
I was in an adult softball mixed league many years ago. During practice one day we challenged one of the women who had been a pitcher in college. She struck out one guy in three straight pitches. She next got one strike on me. I managed to hit the second pitch to right field but wish I hadn't. I felt the pain all the way to my toes.

My daughter struck out many good hitters in Pony Baseball. Real hardball baseball. She also had the highest on-base percentage and most steals once on base. Her biggest opponent was a few misogynist umpires who made huge strike zones when she was at bat.

I made the switch from baseball to fast pitch as a teen, took me a little while to get used to the difference. A boys softball team would have been hitting her pitches consistently. Not sure what this proves other than "You go girl". There is a reason we have (had? lol) gendered physical sports.

Yeah, the ball rose instead of sinking but from where she stood holy s. That ball was on you! Anybody that has played baseball know these gals are no joke, you'd better be humble. I got K'd my first 3 times and laid down a bunt the 4th, called that a win.

When in a mostly men's moderate fast pitch softball league game we saw a women from the opposing team go out to the mound we thought we might be in trouble - and we were.
When youre not used to picking up the ball leaving the hand from down there, it is a daunting effort to hit it, especially coming in that fast. And props to that catcher hanging in there with only a glove and mask.
She's a great pitcher..good rotation technique..her release even better.. Motto mention her speed..she's topping 70mph. As for the boys..they can't even hit a watermelon..some of them first time they swing a bat.

What guys do not understand is with baseball, the ball is thrown over hand from an elevated mound and the ball tends to be travel pitch down. This is an intentional design making the the ball easier to strike and better odds of getting a further hit. Fast pitch soft ball has no mound, the the throw is underhand and ball travels pitch up. Much much harder to hit. Most hits travel ground level. Due to the mental conditioning, girls will have better batting averages than guys. But on a long enough time line...... Guys will be drilling it just as well. I think it would be very interesting to have a national co-ed type softball league.
There is also less time to react to a pitched softball. The pitcher's plate is 43 feet away instead of 60.5, and with the stride, that 43 feet can be as short as 37 feet at release. It's a very different sport.
I used to pitch men's fastball. Ball has a natural tendency to actually drop due to the spin imparted unless it is modified to stay flat or even rise. Baseball players are used to swinging 'up' into pitches and you are correct, without a mound in softball the trajectory is much more flat. Softballs are light and with that broad cross section of raised seam can change direction pretty quickly. A boys softball team would have hit her consistently.
Trog Lodyte not sure what you mean by “a softball is light.” They can weigh from 6 1/2 oz to 7 1/2 oz whereas a baseball can weigh from 5 oz to 5 1/4 oz. Now that being said, getting football players to try to hit a softball as some sort of proof of “girl power” or how good she is, is kind of ridiculous. My daughter pitches, and these kids hit so much better than these football players. It’s like having a football player try to kick a soccer ball past goalie to prove how good the goalie is. It simply doesn’t translate. With adjustments, a baseball player could hit her, maybe not hit homers, they should be able to hit it. It may wreck their swing for baseball but...

This reminds me of my HS baseball team. Our girls' softball team had an Olympic team alternate as a pitcher. We lined up on the the softball field and one of us out of our starting lineup got a hit off of her. She had a WICKED curve. Translated to a baseball diamond, she also had a low-90s FB as a 16 year old. It was hilarious.

Love this. 10 years ago my traveling mens softball was challenged by a girls team. A full on scrimmage game was played. We could not hit off her. She was whippin that arm and striking us out! Mad prop's to them.
I was in an adult softball mixed league many years ago. During practice one day we challenged one of the women who had been a pitcher in college. She struck out one guy in three straight pitches. She next got one strike on me. I managed to hit the second pitch to right field but wish I hadn't. I felt the pain all the way to my toes.
Then you weren't holding it right, didn't drive you elbow correctly, or you needed a better bat. Gloves do help some

My daughter struck out many good hitters in Pony Baseball. Real hardball baseball. She also had the highest on-base percentage and most steals once on base. Her biggest opponent was a few misogynist umpires who made huge strike zones when she was at bat.

I made the switch from baseball to fast pitch as a teen, took me a little while to get used to the difference. A boys softball team would have been hitting her pitches consistently. Not sure what this proves other than "You go girl". There is a reason we have (had? lol) gendered physical sports.

Yeah, the ball rose instead of sinking but from where she stood holy s. That ball was on you! Anybody that has played baseball know these gals are no joke, you'd better be humble. I got K'd my first 3 times and laid down a bunt the 4th, called that a win.

When youre not used to picking up the ball leaving the hand from down there, it is a daunting effort to hit it, especially coming in that fast. And props to that catcher hanging in there with only a glove and mask.
The fact the girl catching for her has only head gear on, is cool, their both in jeans. Plus the girl was able to catch without missing them
When you have a good pitcher you trust them more and know what is probably going to happen with her pitches

What guys do not understand is with baseball, the ball is thrown over hand from an elevated mound and the ball tends to be travel pitch down. This is an intentional design making the the ball easier to strike and better odds of getting a further hit. Fast pitch soft ball has no mound, the the throw is underhand and ball travels pitch up. Much much harder to hit. Most hits travel ground level. Due to the mental conditioning, girls will have better batting averages than guys. But on a long enough time line...... Guys will be drilling it just as well. I think it would be very interesting to have a national co-ed type softball league.
There is also less time to react to a pitched softball. The pitcher's plate is 43 feet away instead of 60.5, and with the stride, that 43 feet can be as short as 37 feet at release. It's a very different sport.
I used to pitch men's fastball. Ball has a natural tendency to actually drop due to the spin imparted unless it is modified to stay flat or even rise. Baseball players are used to swinging 'up' into pitches and you are correct, without a mound in softball the trajectory is much more flat. Softballs are light and with that broad cross section of raised seam can change direction pretty quickly. A boys softball team would have hit her consistently.
Trog Lodyte not sure what you mean by “a softball is light.” They can weigh from 6 1/2 oz to 7 1/2 oz whereas a baseball can weigh from 5 oz to 5 1/4 oz. Now that being said, getting football players to try to hit a softball as some sort of proof of “girl power” or how good she is, is kind of ridiculous. My daughter pitches, and these kids hit so much better than these football players. It’s like having a football player try to kick a soccer ball past goalie to prove how good the goalie is. It simply doesn’t translate. With adjustments, a baseball player could hit her, maybe not hit homers, they should be able to hit it. It may wreck their swing for baseball but...
