      Hey Peter, it was actually very hard to find, I finally found a supplier on US Amazon that had reasonable shipping rates, so I ordered it there. The ones we have available in Sweden are soooo expensive for some reason, don't understand why actually.

    Man you're even doing the accelerated lawn kill. I've been giving my hill 2-3 weeks between apps of glufosinate...then again I need temps up regularly in the 80s to have any chance at getting my buffalograss to take so i dont feel rushed yet. Good luck with your seeding!

      Hey Ray, hopefully it will be mate, IF I can regrow everything again :D
      I added a surfactant, to make the roundup stay on the leaves, not sure if it makes a difference to be honest, but it feels better that you tried everything to make it more efficient.

  • @matthewfsharp

    Sam, good luck! I am tuned in and ready to see how you will manage weeds while seedlings germinate. In Canada here and I have always been afraid to seed a whole lawn, always airing on the side of caution with sod due to the same chemical control you have.

    • @SamsLawn

      Hey Matthew, thanks man, let's hope it turns out good, I am a bit worried about weed pressure but so far I haven't found that much. I had some poa surviving two apps of roundup for some reason, that's the only thing I can see for now. But man that poa, If I had some wishes, I mean world peace... suuuure, but the death of all poa in the world would be very close to the top on that list haha

    Thanks for your content. As a homeowner myself, I like the non expert approach. Weather wise I will be doing this in Sept. how long did it take to scarify and bag up the debris. Myself, I was think of using the power rake, then the scarifier.

    • @SamsLawn
      @SamsLawn  2 года назад

      Hey Seth, thanks a lot mate. It took me at least an hour, such boring work :D
      If you are scarifying then I wouldn't bother with power raking before that, when scarifying you are basically doing the same thing but going deeper into the soil and getting to that thatch layer.

    I just started using pelargonic acid yesterday. It seems to work well with weeds and has less environmental and human health dangers than glyphosate. Supposedly 🤔
    It's been used in France for a long time - it's not a systemic herbicide like glyphosate so probably won't kill roots.

    • @SamsLawn
      @SamsLawn  2 года назад +1

      Hey man, oh you also just used it! It does the job, even if it's not as effective as glyfosate, it works good enough for me to be a bit more friendly to the environment

    Another great video Sam. I would have thought you might use the rotary lawn mower on the lowest setting to get right down to soil level. (Just a thought) I’m also thinking of killing my lawn off, I’ve got soooo much poa in it this year, it’s driving me crazy digging it out each few days when I spot some more... Keep up the great work man 👍

    • @SamsLawn
      @SamsLawn  2 года назад

      Hey Steve, yeah that would have been a great way to scalp it and make it more suitable for the seeds and soil, only problem is that I don't even own a rotary mower :D
      Hopefully it will still work, since it is a low spot, I just assumed the soil will cover it all anyways.
      That poa, it drives me crazy too, not much you can do about it, but as you say, if it has taken over the entire lawn then maybe a total reno is needed. You can always do it in sections and not take everything at once like I am doing.
      Thanks for watching mate, appreciate it

      Hey Peter, sorry for the late response, just got back from Greece. We call it Vätmedel. Hope you can find it easier in Denmark than in Sweden, it's really hard to find surfactants that are "cheap" and available for the consumer market.

      @@SamsLawn thanks man. In Denmark I think we call it "Afspændingsmiddel", which basically are what you fill in dish washers to make sure the water runs off. I can see that some are experiencing with using that for the lawn.

      @@petermuhligchristensen6588 Adam from Denmark here. I have been looking for a cheap wetting agent as well. It looks like Herbinass could be a viable alternative (non-ionic surfactant/alcohol ethoxylates) to the very expensive wetting agents that are used by the professionals. It even claims that it's biodegradable. As I understand it the professional products both help with penetration and moisture retention whereas the cheap ones only help with penetration. But I'm an amateur "grasshopper" so I'm willing to be corrected on this.

      What grass type did you plant?

    • @KristianHerner
      @KristianHerner 2 года назад +1

      @@SamsLawn I just planted a small 20 sq.m. patch behind the house with Granngårdens Villafröjd. The rest of the lawn is a mess of clovers and weeds, with occasional grass. Also, we live on a rocky patch of land, so very undulating and lots of bedrock, so we keep a big area completely wild for the bugs to enjoy.
      I asked my wife if I wanted to buy more garden stuff for the summer, and I guess I dont want it .. So I will contain myself and perhaps try for a big overseeding this fall.

    • @SamsLawn
      @SamsLawn  2 года назад +1

      @@KristianHerner Understand the challenge, but I have to tell you, those kinds of undulating landscapes with some bedrock look the coolest if you can get a really nice lawn around it. I would 100% much rather have that than a perfectly flat lawn. Take it in patches and fix one area every season :)

    Hei
    Masse inspirasjon å hente fra siden din☺️ går og tenker på en full renovasjon av plenen min og. Har et kanskje dumt frågor, men den farge balandingen du bruker, kunne en like så godt brukt «konditorfarge» eller karamellfärg som dere sier i Sverige?😅

    • @SamsLawn
      @SamsLawn  Год назад

      Tjena, va kul att du hittat till min kanal och att du hittar inspiration, gör mig väldigt glad att höra! Ingen dum fråga alls! Det går jättebra att använda färg som man vanligtvis använder för bakning tex. Enda du ska tänka på är att sån färg innehåller ganska lite "färg" så du kan behöva använda en del för att få effekt, men absolut går det bra, du kan använda vattenlösning målarfärg också som barn använder, funkar också! Håll mig uppdaterad kring dina planer, vore kul att följa hur det blir med din renovering, om du nu bestämmer att göra den, och har du frågor så är du alltid välkommen att fråga mig, jag hjälper gärna till om jag kan! :)

    After you killed the grass, you should've mowed the dead lawn at the lowest setting with a bagger. Then dethatch / power rake the rest of the dead debris, then scarify the lawn. Two passed would've been like butter and cleaner.
