@@kingol4801 "Make life good for all players" And that is EXACTLY what i am suggesting. Good headphones allow a player to tell where and what something is that is making audible sound... people who have hearing issues or lack of money to buy expensive technology do NOT have to endure avoidable hardship... no matter what the entitled in this world believe. If a sound can be CLEARLY heard (Detected)... the "stealth" element is completely gone, therefore it's totally possible to introduce a alternative detection to compensate for those who are unfortunate WITHOUT giving a additional benefit to those who are fortunate to have 100% hearing and good headphones. If i can clearly hear someone breathing in a locker right in front of me... a brief small visual indicator is NOT going to benefit me in anyway... infact... if i have the feature turned on, it's unnecessary because i have the ability to hear... it may even be annoying to me (making sure i turn it off as i don't need it). If someone jumps from a height screams and slams into the ground 5 meters from me... there is ZERO reason for me to not detect it as my senses are not impaired. I am not talking about a large noise indicator that updates constantly for someone walking at 50 meters... i am talking about a brief small indicator for loud sounds near the player. This feature is already in games unintentionally.... it's known as a "damage indicator"... you know.. that feature that visual compensates for a players inability to FEEL... another sensory organ. Also in this very video when Otz hooked the last survivor, a indicator came on the screen for the person screaming on the hook. A toned down restricted version could also be implemented for additional sounds... like someone screaming whilst they fall... for example. The solution is already there... it just needs to be carefully expanded.
Its crazy how even viewing the UI is hard with the lack of color, i could barely see the hook stages and gens left in some parts of the video. I think incorporating the visual heartbeat into the base game was a good start from bhvr, hopefully they continue to make the game more accessible for all their users! Ty for bringing more awareness to this Otz!
Otz, you truly represent the best of the best on this platform and in DBD. I’ve been partially deaf in my left ear since birth from repeated ear infections, and more recently completely deaf in my left ear from sudden sensorineural hearing loss. Thankfully I mostly play survivor and with the visual heartbeat I get through pretty easily, but I used to play Billy and drowned out all noise with the chainsaw. Thank you for making a video on this, I truly appreciate it!
@@notOtzdarvaYou undersell how important you are in this community. One video leads to a cascade of people voicing their needs/wants in an industry where Devs (or the companies behind them) are quite ... deaf... to this stuff.
I have about 70% hearing loss in both ears, I didnt hear the Bill in any of the clips you played haha. About 2.5k hours in the game, the heartbeat addition for survivors was a godsend.
Yeah I could not hear him and just thought that he did some magic trick when I played the match. These are very brutal especially when there is a steep drop like that. Cant do anything else than cope really and play with what I got lol.
The heartbeat visual, yes! I get overstimulated easily (AuDHD), so I can hyperfocus (no pun on the perk intended) on the wrong things in a game sense and get distracted easily. The visual heartbeat has helped sooooooo much with that.
Honestly as someone who isnt deaf but does have a hard time hearing certain ques (especially when a lot of noises are happening at once) one of the best things a game can do is just put in subtitles. It doesn't have to say the direction its coming from but just seeing on your screen *bill grunts* when he falls helps a lot A game that did this WONDERFULLY before most of these things were even thought about was left 4 dead and left 4 dead 2. You could not only hear the different piano or violin stings the specials made, not only could you hear the noises they make and hear your teammates say "boomer" the subtitles would pop up with everything but the musical sting
3:05 Holy that FFX Besaid Island background music had me so confused. I've been listening to a final fantasy playlist as I work every day for the last 2 years, which has this song playing a lot. I was checking my open apps for 5 minutes trying to figure out where it was coming from until I realized. Great choice in song though.
The sight one is such a broad spectrum, too. I'm functionally blind so I've always run a ton of filters, which--with every visual update--help less and less. I make the bright makes darker, the dark maps brighter, and it's not any sort of advantage, it's so I can just see. And most of the time it doesn't even help. Autohaven's weird green haze doesn't ever really go away; corn is always corn; and tracking on indoor maps is virtually impossible. But we always try to make it work.
I get this. I have extremely acute sensory needs. I need a very specific brightness but not TOO bright or it's hard for my sensitive eyes to see, so I run VERY minor filters to help with this. The problem is sometimes also that blinding (the bright animation NOT the status) can sometimes also trigger my sensory issues. Not all the time but it can. I fucking hate flashlights more than the average person.
Some time ago I saw someone on the DbD forums ask for more sound indicators for hard of hearing players to be added, and they gave the example of Wraith - without being able to hear the ringing of his bell, every match is like playing against his iridescent add-on. And the fact that it's iridescent rarity shows how the devs understand as well how important sound cues usually are in DbD. Personally I love the sound design in this game, and the unique sounds for different actions and Killer powers, but I do wish there was an option for some sort of accesibility feature, for both Killers and Survivors... As Killer it is so much harder without being able to hear injured survivors, or if a gen is being worked on. In that forum post, they suggested some sort of vibration in the corner of the screen for example, to signal the bell ringing. There are really several ways these things could be creatively added to the game.
Also thank you for talking about accessibility it means a lot to me as a disabled woman and made me so happy and feel emotional you don’t usually see big content creators talking about it and usually it’s just other disabled ppl talking about it and I’m so grateful you’re bringing more awareness to your audience
As someone who's deaf since birth on both ears, but currently has a cochlear implant only on the right ear but loves dbd and playing as a killer, I instantly knew why he missed it since it looks like my gameplay lol. Going to get implanted on the left ear in July so finally going stereo, can't wait. btw, Whispers is such a good perk for people like me, it has saved me matches numerous times, but at the same time it takes up a perk slot that could've been slotted with a more advantageous perk, so it would be amazing to have an accessibility option, since dbd is incredibly dependent on audio direction
hey this is me to a certain extent, theres a lot of things i cant hear and auras/ scratch marks are very difficult for me to track. Thanks for making a video on this its really cool to see!
This is very random but hearing the Besaid island music from FFX kinda brought me to tears, I had very few good memories as a kid, but playing that game with my siblings is something I will never forget. Thanks for that
I have Greyscale colourblindness. This was so interesting to watch you got a decent y hard map in the grand scheme of things thanks for showing everyone how I play
I appreciate this so much. I am not colorblind or hard of hearing but I think you should do this more often, mostly the color filter part, to show people how much it sucks to have these issues and maybe reach the devs with it. More people being aware of these problems the more likely it is the devs will do something to help. Maybe to a once a month stream with colorblind filters or something like it to just make people more aware. I think that would be awesome!
It is odd how DBD Mobile had audio indicators before the main game had it, the mobile version even had the heartbeat indicator before it came to the main game.
thank you for the video, otz ! advocating for better accessibility is a must . i'm already happy for the colorblind settings they've added in, but more assistance with HoH would be great as well. loved seeing whispers get mentioned, it helps me out a lot !
my girlfriend is a little hard of hearing, and she wants to play dbd with me so badly but always gets upset because she can't pick up certain audio queues. I really hope that BHVR would dedicate time to making their accessibility settings better.
Hey Otz, thanks for reviewing that match and realising this! I’m fully deaf with only a cochlear on my left side that is only half as good as your ear :) Means I cannot rely on audio that well, but I play with a lot of spinning around to make sure my left is able to hear all around me. And as you said with experience you don’t need to rely on the senses that much. This is true, I’ve only got about 400hrs as of now and I’m doing pretty well despite my nerf patch that I received at birth.
As someone who has a slight color blindness, I can attest that it happens to me so many times that I lose a chase because I mostly see scratchmaks that are 1m away (not to mention that I use some nvidia filters to boost that saturation, or else red is way too muted in the rest). Also having to stick my face to a wall or an obstacle to be able to see auras in some maps is so annoying. I really appreciate that video Otz, love the geniune concern you've shown !
Love you Otz both for exploring the game from another point of view but also commenting on how your incredible experience and game sense assists you and would be difficult to develop for a new player who didn't have access to all that sensory input.
i really appreciate you wanting to get a better understanding of the potential experience of a different perspective. i have no disability, but i recognize the merit of the will to connect to others. i think that's super commendable, Otz. Well done.
I had a traumatic ear injury that I was lucky to have had the medical support to mostly recover from. I have a lot more empathy for hearing impaired people. It made life really hard for an extended period of time.
Never in a million years would I think to combine ambient FFX music while playing as killer in DBD. I now know what I need to do lol. Great video as always, Otz, keep it up!
Fun Fact: there's a perk in Dead By Daylight called (Whispers) which indicate a survivor is in your AoE, depending on how close you are the (Whispers perk) will glow harder to indicate the survivor is near you, and if it fades away you're losing the presence of the survivor,
Nice video! Total different perspective for sure. I personally would be very interested in a run/challenge with all the different killers like this. Maybe even a comparison :) Keep up the good work
Accessibility options are so important!! I'm not HoH but I do have trouble discerning the terror radius heartbeat from other ambient noises (or even my own paranoid imagination lol), so when I found the heartbeat indicator in the options I was thrilled.
Lowkey Otz, this style of DBD video of you giving commentary and chill music on the background, talking about random things is pretty good. Like a goodguy(Zen) killer videos :)
Thank you for advocating for disabled players! It's so refreshing to see in this community!! I struggle with audio cues due to audio processing issues that can affect my directional hearing, and I agree there should be more accessibility options available. I've played dbd since late 2018, and when the heartbeat visual was added I was so happy to finally be able to tell how far away a killer was!!! And playing as killer could definitely use some directional audio cues like a screen border visual effect!!
What a wholesome video. I love you Otz. I realy glad that you do youtube since I dont quite like streams nowadays. So happy to have a you as a my favorite internet person
Hearing that Final Fantasy X music brings back nostalgia. X was my first Final Fantasy game, it’s still my favorite and go back to it every once in awhile.
This is honestly inspiration for me! I'm almost deaf in my right ear. I can't play with directional audio at all, in any game. Seeing other people push for accessibility features makes me glad I started playing this game
Even without disabilities, surround sound (directional heartbeat and stuff) is largely headphone / soundcard dependant, so when watching other people play that is also a factor one with good equipment may not consider
It would also be eye opening to see this same setup on survivor gameplay which I think could be much more stressful. I mean, we have killer perks that mess with audio and visuals so clearly it has an impact but imagine dealing with it every moment of everyday for the rest of your life. Mad respect to people who do what they love no matter what their are experiencing.
I'm a killer main with 350 hours in the game, and am Red/Green Colorblind (deuteranomaly), and shades of colors with red/green in them blend together very easily. (I.e. blue and purple look very similar) but even things like brown and green, pink and gray, yellow & green, red and brown, all blend in together relatively well. While there are options available to assist in correcting the colors in game/make them more vibrant (my GPU has colorblind settings that can apply to any game I play) even with them at their strongest, I can find myself missing scratch marks because they blend in, or second guessing myself if something is a sign of a survivor or just part of the map. While looking at my monitor, all the colors "should" appear better to me, I've spent so much time in life second guessing colors that my brain gaslights me subconsciously on what a color actually is. I super appreciate the attempt to immerse yourself into what others might struggle with/experience, just wanted to explain the colorblind angle, because 1. Monochromatic colorblindness is EXTREMELY rare, with Red/Green being the most common, and Blue/Green being the next most common. But also wanted to explain how shades, and colors can blend together, and how you still might not get that via a monochromatic point of view. Love the content, thanks Otz!
I feel this to my core. I'm also Red/Green colorblind (with 550 hours in dbd). I actually dropped dead by daylight because of how hard it is to see the scratch marks. For about 2 years of watching Dead by Daylight creators I didn't even know about the scratch marks. Only learned about them when I looked up tips and tricks on how to chase survivors. edit: I used to attempt following scratch marks by looking out for the black part of it. Instead of the red because the red just blends in.
I am myself deaf on my left ear due to a broken bone in the ear and sometimes Its really rough. Something I noticed is flashbangs, they make a subtle noise and sometimes I just dont hear it bc its on the side I dont hear. Something that is also impossible is directional hearing. It is impossible to tell from where a sound came even if I hear it, so playing against spirit is just guessing and its super unfun to be destroyed by that, playing spirit the same and any other killer it limits just somethings like hearing though a wall to know if they doubleback. That just takes away enjoyment when I lose the survivor because they run to my left. Im glad this video gives a bit more attention to that problem same as the colorblind problem. So thanks a lot Otz for this video

Love you, Otz. Keep up the good content.
Great video! As someone who is colorblind, I despise Ormond because I cannot see scratch marks on it and often lose survivors. This leaves me having to go off audio and seeing them directly, which can be difficult if a survivor decides to leave a loop or use and exhaustion perk to tget away
im so glad you made this video, i have deuteranopia and find it nearly impossible to read scratch marks and auras and some maps to me are nearly unplayable, this is why ur my fav dbd channel
As someone who is hard of hearing and can not wear hearing aids with headphones. I greatly appreciate you taking the time to try and understand the difficulties we have in games like this
as someone who is also deaf on my left side I understand the struggle playing killer XD, why I haven't been able to play spirit since they changed her fathers glasses addon. She was one of my faves to play and because of my inability to accurately track survivors when relying on hearing it rendered her unplayable to me now which is a shame, in most cases i rely purely on visual and heavily take aura reading on most of my killers
The only issue with accessibility settings, would be people who don't need them taking advantage of them This happens on the mobile version for example, you get visual indicators for running or injured survivors pointing exactly at where they are (making Spirit the absolute strongest killer in the game), same goes for some killer powers like Nurse blink, Doctor's shock or Billy's chainsaw for example Sadly, most if not all players end up taking advantage of it even when they don't need to, and all of the indicators actually have an unreasonably big range So while I agree that accessibility setting should be present, I also understand how difficult it is to add something like this while keeping it somewhat "balanced" by not giving some players an unfair advantage
Mobile actually does the balancing right. Spirit should be able to homing-missile upon other players. That or let her actually go through obstacles during her phasing. Etc etc etc Games in general should be balanced around the visual aspect more so than sound-based one, or else headphones create skewed economic discrimination. DbD on mobile makes the game genuinely visual and fair. Unlike DbD on PC
Thanks for this I am also deaf in my left ear and often miss various sound cues when playing as a killer. I mainly play survivor these days as the visual heartbeat helps so much with playing that role.
Imagine walking in your own home with your eyes closed = You can do it easily because you're already familiar.
@@kingol4801 I don't think the commenter said anything about it only being "on one side"
I don't think this video alone will accomplish anything but I really hope more changes come.
Yeah 15% for me and I only heard the second clip.
Yeah I could not hear him and just thought that he did some magic trick when I played the match. These are very brutal especially when there is a steep drop like that.
Cant do anything else than cope really and play with what I got lol.
@@mlgsty8880 you did well!! massive ggs and respect bro
The heartbeat visual, yes! I get overstimulated easily (AuDHD), so I can hyperfocus (no pun on the perk intended) on the wrong things in a game sense and get distracted easily. The visual heartbeat has helped sooooooo much with that.
The final fantasy music @3:15 caught me off guard but not in a bad way
Honestly as someone who isnt deaf but does have a hard time hearing certain ques (especially when a lot of noises are happening at once) one of the best things a game can do is just put in subtitles. It doesn't have to say the direction its coming from but just seeing on your screen *bill grunts* when he falls helps a lot
A game that did this WONDERFULLY before most of these things were even thought about was left 4 dead and left 4 dead 2.
Ultrasonic sensor add-on: "Exists"
Deaf people:"Woah, this is worthless"
i never once considered that. honestly, that and the video in general really reminds me of how much i take my hearing for granted.
One thing people should remember when talking about accessibility is: it's not about making things easy for them, it's about making it possible.
Watching Otz play DbD while the Besaid Island theme plays in the background is a little trippy for me
Also thank you for talking about accessibility it means a lot to me as a disabled woman and made me so happy and feel emotional you don’t usually see big content creators talking about it and usually it’s just other disabled ppl talking about it and I’m so grateful you’re bringing more awareness to your audience
"I can edit in a soothing water sound"
*uses the Besaid theme*
incredibly based of you Otz
Im deaf in my right ear! This player isnt just relatable, but also inspiring
As someone who's deaf since birth on both ears, but currently has a cochlear implant only on the right ear but loves dbd and playing as a killer, I instantly knew why he missed it since it looks like my gameplay lol. Going to get implanted on the left ear in July so finally going stereo, can't wait.
btw, Whispers is such a good perk for people like me, it has saved me matches numerous times, but at the same time it takes up a perk slot that could've been slotted with a more advantageous perk, so it would be amazing to have an accessibility option, since dbd is incredibly dependent on audio direction
love calm the final fantasy background music. noticed it instant. absolutly lovin it
hey this is me to a certain extent, theres a lot of things i cant hear and auras/ scratch marks are very difficult for me to track. Thanks for making a video on this its really cool to see!
makes me appreciate little things more in my life. thank you for bringing this up otz!
I love that you used the Besaid theme for that Huntress match. DbD being relaxing is a nice change of pace.
So glad to have watch the stream during this, very fun to see other people playing as killer still learning new things
this video really did help me relax after a stressful day, thank you otz! ❤
Besaid island theme as background music was so comfy and chill.Thank you for video
thank you for the video, otz ! advocating for better accessibility is a must . i'm already happy for the colorblind settings they've added in, but more assistance with HoH would be great as well. loved seeing whispers get mentioned, it helps me out a lot !
my girlfriend is a little hard of hearing, and she wants to play dbd with me so badly but always gets upset because she can't pick up certain audio queues. I really hope that BHVR would dedicate time to making their accessibility settings better.
Some items and perks can help a bit, but it's really rough still!
thank you for bringing awareness to this issue!
Hey Otz, thanks for reviewing that match and realising this! I’m fully deaf with only a cochlear on my left side that is only half as good as your ear :)
Means I cannot rely on audio that well, but I play with a lot of spinning around to make sure my left is able to hear all around me. And as you said with experience you don’t need to rely on the senses that much. This is true, I’ve only got about 400hrs as of now and I’m doing pretty well despite my nerf patch that I received at birth.
I have hearing issues in my right ear and this happens a lot. Love that they’re able to still power through and play so well!

Otz, great job 👍
Finally, some positivity! 😂
Maybe even a comparison :) Keep up the good work
you're the most informative and entertaining dbd player i've watched! thank you and congratulations on 1M
Watched this on stream, they played so well!
I know right!!
Otz you are an absolute legend for using final fantasy x background music. I love it
Accessibility options are so important!! I'm not HoH but I do have trouble discerning the terror radius heartbeat from other ambient noises (or even my own paranoid imagination lol), so when I found the heartbeat indicator in the options I was thrilled.
Ngl not hearing constant screams and just your voice as you brutally murder everyone was very ASMR and refreshing.
Such a nice video, really hoping the game continues to get more accessibility in the future!
And playing as killer could definitely use some directional audio cues like a screen border visual effect!!
i love these types if videos, I learn something new every time and its correcting my gameplay.
Babe wake up new otz video 🔥🗣️🗣️🔥‼️
Great song choice for background music, besaid islands theme is so relaxing
What a wholesome video. I love you Otz. I realy glad that you do youtube since I dont quite like streams nowadays. So happy to have a you as a my favorite internet person
The "relaxing music to cleanse one's soul" music in order for the video to not only be Otz's voice lol
Otz really gonna get me into my feels with the Final Fantasy X music 😭
Hearing that Final Fantasy X music brings back nostalgia. X was my first Final Fantasy game, it’s still my favorite and go back to it every once in awhile.
This is honestly inspiration for me! I'm almost deaf in my right ear. I can't play with directional audio at all, in any game. Seeing other people push for accessibility features makes me glad I started playing this game
Even without disabilities, surround sound (directional heartbeat and stuff) is largely headphone / soundcard dependant, so when watching other people play that is also a factor one with good equipment may not consider
Almost 3000 views in 7 minutes. No fall off + Wesker approved
This is pretty incredible and I hope all creators are like Otz, championing accessability for the community.
Otzadarva has to be one of the most sportsmanlike DBD pros of all time, alongside Spookyloopz. This man realized that our partially deaf friend was partially deaf and not only corrected his mistake, but also made an ENTIRE VIDEO dedicated to it, highlighting the issues that those who are colorblind or hard of hearing face. Love you, Otz. Keep up the good content.
That music in the background gave me a nice nap otz, thank you.
Was looking for a video to watch at 360p while downloading...... This was the perfect one
You helped me be a killer main since 2020, thank you good guy otz :)
Great video! As someone who is colorblind, I despise Ormond because I cannot see scratch marks on it and often lose survivors. This leaves me having to go off audio and seeing them directly, which can be difficult if a survivor decides to leave a loop or use and exhaustion perk to tget away
We need more people like you. JRM is colorblind as well, he said that scratchmarks and red stains are SO hard to track
His gameplay made no sense until I realized he was a solo Que teammate.
But he was the Killer so your comment makes no sense 😂
@@Ozz3605 bro forgor you can play both sides

the amount of times i hear ffx music used as background music brings me great joy
I thought my music playlist was going off again until I realized Otz chose a goated FFX OST for the BGM cheers for that!
im so glad you made this video, i have deuteranopia and find it nearly impossible to read scratch marks and auras and some maps to me are nearly unplayable, this is why ur my fav dbd channel
Why the hell you guys commenting, watch the video first lol
It's been 14 minutes I did watch the video
Thank you for highlighting this topic and promoting discussion on it!
i love the black and white filter, makes the game really hard, but fun.
"Hello friends this is Otz. Or so it was written with small letters at the bottom of your birth certificate"
As someone who is hard of hearing and can not wear hearing aids with headphones. I greatly appreciate you taking the time to try and understand the difficulties we have in games like this
Love your choice in music, much love to everyone who has to play this game with one or more senses impaired.
as someone who is also deaf on my left side I understand the struggle playing killer XD, why I haven't been able to play spirit since they changed her fathers glasses addon. She was one of my faves to play and because of my inability to accurately track survivors when relying on hearing it rendered her unplayable to me now which is a shame, in most cases i rely purely on visual and heavily take aura reading on most of my killers
The only issue with accessibility settings, would be people who don't need them taking advantage of them
This happens on the mobile version for example, you get visual indicators for running or injured survivors pointing exactly at where they are (making Spirit the absolute strongest killer in the game), same goes for some killer powers like Nurse blink, Doctor's shock or Billy's chainsaw for example
Sadly, most if not all players end up taking advantage of it even when they don't need to, and all of the indicators actually have an unreasonably big range
So while I agree that accessibility setting should be present, I also understand how difficult it is to add something like this while keeping it somewhat "balanced" by not giving some players an unfair advantage
Mobile actually does the balancing right.
Spirit should be able to homing-missile upon other players.
That or let her actually go through obstacles during her phasing.
Etc etc etc
Games in general should be balanced around the visual aspect more so than sound-based one, or else headphones create skewed economic discrimination.
DbD on mobile makes the game genuinely visual and fair. Unlike DbD on PC
Thanks for this I am also deaf in my left ear and often miss various sound cues when playing as a killer. I mainly play survivor these days as the visual heartbeat helps so much with playing that role.
3:19 i like he says that he could fake it, but we all know that wouldn't happen unless he was forced to do it. Love you Otz, keep up the amazing work.
I played the game completely without moving my legs to simulate playing as a paralyzed person
Otz flexing on deaf, and colorblind guys 💪
Literally
Imagine walking in your own home with your eyes closed = You can do it easily because you're already familiar.
Now Imagine walking in a stranger's house with your eyes closed = that's the real difficulty for blind people
I can keep up with some handicaps because of my thousands of hours of experience in DBD, but I know for the average player this is NOT the case and it's much, much harder!!
