- So recently our pal @hydrodictyonEN informed me that the devs have finally confirmed that the new plague "bug" is actually an intended feature; the Plague will now lose her power after being stunned by almost any means. Plague not losing her power to other stuns was actually bug for FIVE YEARS, it turns out. This video analyzes this baffling revelation and showcases a build that helps to ignore this new weakness.

otz's point about some changes being not what people ask for because we don't know every detail about the game isnt good either, because the only reason we don't know everything about the game is because BHVR's data collection is terrible, and that's just what they tell us about! BHVR: We can't make stunning nurse take away her power.
Also BHVR: On plague.
This is also weird because they have been actively moving away from the design of certain perks affecting certain killers. Like how, before this patch, Freddy's dreamworld was actively countered by Adrenaline.
So now Plague is actively countered by Blast Mine and DS? Two stun perks, but not the base mechanics of flashlight saves or wiggling out. Incredibly bizarre choice on Behavior's part.
Blast mine applies because it is a blind and plague cannot be hit by it when carrying a survivor
But the decisive strike change really doesn’t make sense to me and probably should be reverted
It’s because it’s a stun, not because it’s a perk. That makes sense and is consistent with the logic of the power and the current design ethos

2021 - that was when I really got into the game and got the adept for Plague!
I always hated that pallet stuns stripped her of her power. Now I have more reasons to hate stuns.
I mean, this isn't the first time they called a random change a bug. Back when they released the killer stun patch, they said it was a bug that you had to time the pallet drop or flashlight save when a pickup was happening; that it was always intended to count at any point during the animation. BHVR seems to like using the term "bug fix" as a way to change things on a whim.
The devs are amazing at:
1. Not playing their own game.
2. Making random changes on a whim.

THANK YOU FOR TALKING ABOUT THIS! I tried breaking the news to BHVR as soon as I discovered it a few months ago. As a 2k hour Plague enthusiast, this change was quite bizarre alongside her receiving much more bugs. Plague received ANOTHER silent nerf last patch as she fired less projectiles with vile purge than previous. There was issues with her cooldown animations being horribly misaligned and her animations didn't work for awhile. IDK why they decided to nerf stock instead of the seal as that addon alone fundamentally breaks her kit. It's kinda heartbreaking (btw Love you and the work you do for our community!)

Same as the black bubble Kindred/Bitter Murmur aura change. Showed auras for 6 years. One day, they declared that was a bug, and that was that.
I find this change furstrating because of the situations you can't prepare for, such as Blast Mine. If you go to kick a gen and randomly discover that the survivors had that perk, your one default fountain has now become useless.
I don't believe that BHVR didn't realize this there's no way, has to be a miscommunication
At first I was thinking that it was some bug/miscommunication, but looking back on it after a few hours, It more looks like one of those questionable changes that was made during the engine shift like the brutal strength change and issues with net-coding. Still confusing and shitty, and I hoped they got their shit together after the Billy overcharge rework, but it seems like it was a random spike in good quality and not really a consistent "we're back" kind of thing. Personally, there's still good qualities to DBD, but it's slowly shrinking as behavior keeps dropping the ball on these changes. It feels like they took the "Turn bugs into features" advice in the worst possible direction and made it for things that just worsen the character and give nothing to compensate for it. (one last thing, you can still somewhat take advantage of this, because everyone's going to want to stun plague, run "hubris" so they can eat shit and die)
@@SoupDisaster Why comment something like this under a video in intro of which it is confirmed that it's intended change and is actually a bizzare "fix" of a 5 year old since release bug that was taken as granted. Miscommunication wouldn't be the main and only problem that plagues their dev team, they still insist on saying that they playtest ever patch themselves as a dev team (aka the anniversary commentaries and reddit Q&A answers) and somehow went trough plague numerous times each and every patch without noticing this. And it's not even the first time, Wesker couldn't slap survivors and always grabbed them for like 3/4 of a year untill it took them a killswitching bug to realise there was another all along, and even then it took them 2-3 additional months to fix that little line of code making him recognise when to grab and when to slap. This is below indie game dev level of incompetence and there's no "accidents" involved - they're just that bad.
@@SoupDisaster 3:09
Like, no matter what, it makes them look bad right? The options are, we made up some excuse for changing this, we left a fairly major bug in the game for this character for half a decade and finally decided to fix it, or, we don't know how to communicate properly.
I keep up with DBD news, hoping for a reason to come back. Every time I catch up on what has been going on, the headline is almost always "BHVR does a thing that doesn't make any sense, breaks the game"
I haven't played since.... Wesker pretty much, and it is directly related to how they constantly "fix" their game. I went from 3 kills pretty consistently to, didn't even get a hook consistently.
This just makes me remember the "look down after hit" that BHVR randomly "fixed" after 7 fucking years and everybody fucking hated it. Youre telling me that a very obvious animation has been bugged since release and you finally managed to "fix" it? Thank fuck they didnt implement it after the PTB.
My biggest theory is that most of the old developers have left behaviour over the years, or the ones that are still in, have gone up the corporate ladder. We now have a whole new dev team that's been ironing out the years of bugs and inconsistencies, including this plague change.
This would also explain some of the wacky bugs we've been seeing since this new generation of devs are trying to unravel half a decade of coding, shaping it into their own image. Fingers crossed that this change gets reverted because, as Otz gracefully said, makes no sense.
i keep telling my friends this!! there is a whole new creative director, we are seeing his vision in the game!!!!

They did sneak nerf when they made it so you loose PWYF stacks when using vile purge. They didn't announce it in any patchnotes. They also raised the volume of her prayers, they used to be quiter when she first released. They didn't mention that either. Idk what's going on with shadow nerfs for pure Plague :(
its obvious. Bhvr has stopped to even pretend that they want the game to be balanced and fair to both survivors and killers. They clearly only care about the survivors, hence they are nerfing killers and then nerfing them more with such shadow nerfs that they dont even mention. Cause if survivors would not always win, there would be 4 bad reviews, so when they make killers suck ass.. there is only 1 bad review.

@@_LunariaKiller main here. I literally never play surv. The game is balanced fine. They literally just reworked billy into being a threatening killer that feels good to play against, and has a good kill rate according to both fan statistics (nightlight) and official statistics. @@k8rgrl Oh so thats why they keep doing stealth nerfs like this ? Cause the game is "balanced" now and they dont even dare to let the players know that they are nerfing killers much more than they want to admit ?
Yea yea i got ya, thats totally the case.
I do wonder if the Stats you are looking at, are anything like his video where he checks the killer pick rate / kill rate.
And freddie which is picked less than 1% of the time, has like 65% killrate, it doesnt mean the killer is good, or picked often. It only means that the one guy who picked Freddy couple of times, got 3k in the 3 out of 5 matches..
I feel like this wouldn't be such a problem if they
A: put it in the patch notes
B: explain the reasoning
C: didnt call the last five years a "bug"
Ah man, this change is SICKENING

To compensate, survivors can no longer remove RBTs from their heads to make her more in line with her depiction in the movies
Jigsaw has came to test her 1 more time.
"it was always intended to be like that" i think this can be translated to " we somewhat fucked up something....again..., and due to spaghetti code, that thing will stay as it is."
I think it's a whole lot weirder that one stun stops a killer's power, but others don't, and I'm perfectly fine that BHVR is streamlining mechanics. With that said, I'd rather have Plague loose a small amount of duration (like 10% or something), rather than the whole things goes.

But in the loading screen, the tips menu talks about this as if it's intended. That was a meme in the TF2 community for a while. This reminds me of that. Really weird change.
I wonder if this has anything to do with the move to UE5? Like they literally couldn't fix this bug for the past five years without it breaking spirit or knight again somehow. Or maybe they just noticed it as they were playtesting the plague after moving her code over? So strange. Maybe we can convince them Nurse not loosing her charges on a stun is a bug too!
No, this "bug" has actually been in the game since update 7.6.0 a while ago, I just firmly believed that it was a bug and not a feature.
@@notOtzdarvadbd has soo many bugs that some of them just become a feature

I am a Singularity main, and noticed that he got nerfed. Previously when his Biopods got emp’d, he would get a sound notification that some of all cameras got emp’d. But now there is no sound notification, and sometimes I even don’t know my cam was broken for like 20-30 seconds and some survivor nearly did a gen while I didn’t even know this. It’s now way harder to play as Singularity, especially on bigger maps. It’s a very influential change on this killer
Yo I thought I was going insane not hearing my cameras get popped. Can't believe these changes sometimes.
I get it can be annoying to hear it sometimes but it really does help with having to micro-manage the entire map.

It's very satisfying to see Otz at 1 million subs. Congratulations, Otz!
Thank you all.
Sounds like a Blast Mine buff :^)
Its still a perk that, against a good killer, will steal 5 secs of their time once per match, at its best. Not exactly worth a perk slot, unless it really gets you your kick to watch the killer eat a quick stun while youre just standing around being useless, lol
Thing is I remember getting Plague out of her power with Head on on release. It was in the game, just like stunning zombies with head on and destroying them (which also got fixed this patch)
Both were in the game, but because Head On isn't as popular, it wasn't fixed until now
I remember getting her out of her power with Blast Mine when the perk came out too so I'm genuinely confused, I was honestly under the impression it had always been like that.
This reminds of a similar time in tf2 where a weapon called the righteous bison was added to the game, a laser gun that could pierce through enemies. Then roughly 5 years later, they removed the pierce effect claiming that it was a bug despite being part of the gun ever since it got introduced to the game and the gun became a neutered version of itself and it wasn't even that good to start with. The change was reverted a year later but somehow it's still not the same gun it used to be before the pierce got removed, it deals less damage than it's original version and this was never fixed to this day.
Another comment mentioned this, and they also said that a loading menu talked about the wall/enemy piercing effect like it was supposed to be there (which I say for anyone who didn't see that one and might want to know). Hella funny imo
We at BHVR hear you, and have unanimously decided to nerf trapper and buff blight add-ons
Absolutely comes off as spaghetti code issues at first. Maybe they misunderstood in the bug report that you meant *every* stun outside of just pallets. I’m not sure if it’s reviewed by a person or automated. Hope this gets reverted soon because it’s just so bizarre and if they’re willing to say somethin like this was always intended, I hate to know what else they’d be willing to change and just say it was always supposed to behave that way
It wouldn't be the first time they claimed a bug or bad change was "always intended" when it very obviously wasn't
I mean, Nurse being stunned by a pallet used to go through the stun animation and then fatique. Yet that was a "bug" since the release of the game.
Odds are, now that they are moving everything to UE5, that they are revisiting a lot of things and noticing ancient bugs. Odds are that they dont put them in the patch notes, because they did exactly what the old files were SUPPOSED to do. They didnt change a thing, its just that when recreated with actual scripts instead of the UE blueprints, there are less bugs like this.
Honestly, even if it seems like it sucks, this is a good thing overall. It means that there will be less spaghetti code, killers will have their own folder with their own scripts, instead of killers borrowing from an existing blueprint, which means less bugs overall.
"We've analyzed the community feedback. We've seen your complaints about these issues. So we have decided to nerf The Pig."
them saying plagues power was bugged is the biggest lie i've ever heard. they knew people would be upset and made up an excuse
Ah yes, a classic BHVR moment.
I actually do think they just never bothered fixing this bug. It always seemed a bit odd that decisive would not end her power but the pallet stun *while recovering from the DS stun* would. But it's indeed a weird change
Imagine the psychological quality of life improvement the playerbase could have if BHVR maintained an exhaustive known issues list on their website.
The bug part is the most amazing part.
It honestly reminds me of how most newer killers have anti-camp baked into their power. Meanwhile (correct me if this has been changed), hag can have traps set at a hook and they remain, OR set new traps nearby the hook. Sure, "just crouch" was always an option (and is maybe a bit stronger now), but boy does that kind of thing still bother me.
Wow I did not realise this playing plague I got so confused when I kept losing my power 😭😭
Playing devil's advocate here, I think this change "can" be healthy for consistency's sake. If all stuns are treated equal by various different features, then the game is following a clear set of rules. Corrupt Purge is a very powerful tool, and while I agree that stuns should be a solid counterplay to it, its current on/off behavior when she gets stunned is far weaker when stuns that don't come from pallets can also trigger it. Beyond that, wiggles and blinding rescues are still breaking these established rules, and should really be included in the list here.
Additionally, if stuns are meant to counter strong powers, then they should have a similar impact on other killers that have much more free access to said powers. Blight, Nurse, and Wesker all have simple, multi-charge dashes that can quickly close any gaps created by a stun; Xenomorph and Oni have their own enhanced states that are merely inconvenienced by stuns; and I'm sure there are others that are slipping my mind. All in all, I would be okay with this Plague change *IF* they treated the rest of the mechanic with due care. But they didn't, and this change on its own sucks.
Making stuns too powerful, including those from flashy saves, encourages slugging. As a killer, that feels dirty. I can only imagine a survivor couldn't like that either.
But thats the thing, if all stuns are treated "equally", guess who will not care about them? (Hint, its the strongest killer who ignores pallets pretty much)
The only stun a Nurse eats on the regular is DS, and sure disabling powers if hit by DS is a reasonable thing maybe but not from head on and blast mine, like thats just weird
but then, why is the power removal not explained anywhere in the in-game tooltip of her power ?
why is the power removal tied to the pallet drop and not the actual stun (since you get the power removed even if the stun isn't applied i.e. while picking up)
why were they constantly moving away from perks affecting killer powers (adren vs freddy being the most recent change)
Consistency leads to homogeneity. Homogeneity leads to a dull game. Pass.
Agreed. OW has this problem with their tanks in 5v5.@@TheRealMycanthrope
This reminds me of the change to the nurse, where she would get stunned by a dropped pallate mid teleport.
I can't remember the other time but I swear this is the second time they nerfed something claiming it's old situation was a "bug" that they somehow ignored for multiple years before changing.

don't worry Otz, this is most definitely unintentional and will be fixed in 4 to 6 months
It is very simple really. Either the direction trust a bad balancing team OR the direction doesn't always trust a good balancing team and forces illogical changes, OR no one really understands how to balance this game.
There's no 4th option, it's been too many of the weirdest occurences, it cannot be an accident.

I feel like the "Is this another situation where BHVR... Accidentally miscommunicates?" is a bit of a euphemism.
I can see the line of thought behind this. Why would a pallet stub taking you out of power but not any other stuns that kind of make sense
Because pallet stuns are basically only used in chase, where a plague with power is significantly stronger and the survivor takes on a ton of risk. Blast mine, DS, and head on to a lesser extent basically never happen in chase
@@ink3487 with all due respect that doesn’t make sense or change what I said a stun is a stun doesn’t matter if it’s in chase my logic is if she gets stunned(regardless of running speed) I can see why they would go that route

maybe they want to push the change into the direction of stuns temporarily disabling powers. it is a highly requested feature, from survivors
So why didn't they start with Nurse or Blight, both of which would make a lot more sense from a balance perspective??
I wanna give them the benefit of the doubt but this was still a baffling decision.

While I'm at it, I'd like to clarify one thing: at least for me, the most baffling thing isnt the change itself - after all, if something is a bug, it needs to be fixed, whether I like it or not. What really struck a nerve here was that *the change was done in complete silence. Why, BHVR?* With so many bugs in the game, wouldn't it be cool to tell your community that you finally fixed an issued that plagued a character for years? *And would we ever find out if nobody reported that as a bug?*
The real problem isn't the change, but rather the total lack of communication about it.
Might’ve just forgotten about the change when porting to UE5

one of the devs got downed by the corrupt purge immediately after DS stun and got frustrated so they "fixed" it
Reminds me when they shadow nerfed the FOV for killers and it gave me the worst headaches ever! Just for them to change it back a little while ago....
Some noob developer was probably planning to head on a plague trying to get rid of her power, then he popped out and after the stun plague shot red goop on him and downed him resulting in raging and an immediate fix.
Wouldn't surprise me. That's how we got flashlight nerfs lmao.
I feel like they just unintentionally broke this aspect of her power with the new patch and just went "huh, thats the way it should be". Dont forget how bhvr broke nurses range addons, literally bringing back insta blinks and they acted the same way - "welp thats how it was supposed to be"
From what I remember blast mine stun already worked like this ever since the perk got released or at least when it got nerfed, I remember at some point last year I put up a blast mine on a gen and it was a game against plague, once she kicked it she lost her corrupt purge
What is up with game companies just making the worst decisions possible lately? BSG and tarkov, BHVR and DBD, Bethesda and Fallout 4. Its crazy right now.

I don't believe for a moment this was a real bug they fixed, and it's bothering me that they're again just lying to us. Just be honest and say you needed to nerf the Plague for X, Y and Z reasons instead of insulting our intelligence.
Her power is crazy strong, though. Most maps don't have enough pallets to get stuns on her.
Ah yes we intended for Plauge's power to be directly countered by one of the chapter's accompanying survivor's perks!
What are they doing..
I think the bigger issue is godpallets with flashlights. Good survivors will now be able to, depending on walls, take your power with little counterplay.
No, flashlight saves don’t remove power when you carry a survivor
It's weird that this would be the case but stunning Oni doesn't get rid of his power
I can’t believe that the whispering is still that volume
I'm not personally a big plague fan (i dont dislike her. she's just not for me) But this is ridiculous.
DS stun disabling killer powers is rocket science, too complicated, the way the quantum waves propagate, anybody below 600 IQ just wouldn't understand. And we don't want to have perks that especially counter specific characters, so we are moving away from perk design that singles out one character. But this is fine, in fact we meant to do it 5 years ago and just forgot 😀
It makes sense that they wanted her like that - Jane who came out with Plague has Head on to stop her using her power. But its similar with Blight, althought devs said that hug tech is a not intended bug, but this one was done in silence lol
You can also vomit on downed survivors, or survivors on the hook to begin their plauge progression. You can't make them red while on the ground or hook but you can give them a sliver of it
I am shocked that the Xenomorph never had the stun remove his runner mode. That makes more sense than this Plague change. Especially since Xeno gets runner mode passively. Seems way more OP than Plague.
It isn't even close. Corrupt Purge is a ranged attack, runner mode gives you a slightly better version of Nemesis' tentacle. They are in no way comparable, and if Xenomorph didn't already have the stupid flamethrowers I'd agree with you.
@@Seoul_Soldier my argument to that is xwno can brrak a flame thrower before it takes them out of runner mode, and if your team doesn't set up the flame throwers you are going against a killer who doesn't ever come out of power. It may not be as ranged as corrupt purge, but it can be equally, if not more devastating to a team over a whole match.
@@Seoul_Soldier "slightly better tentacle" is putting it lightly. The range is better, the wind up takes much less time, the recovery time is shorter, you don't need to be infected, it can hit you through obstacles by looking up then down, you don't need to level it up for it to be good. Runner mode turns almost any loop in the game into impossible mode and the only "counterplay" can be broken before it even takes you out of power
They shoulda fixed them noisy ass whispers instead 😭😭😭
the change makes sense in the long run if they say it was always a bug. id imagine theyll look at the numbers and see if a buff is needed but probably wont change her since i dont really think the numbers will adjust all that much
Otz- “Do you like the plague?”
Victorian child- “”
2:10 I hear what you're saying, but counterargument: This change (even though the devs might have unintentionally made it) makes it *easier* for everyone to understand Plague's power.
"You can stun the Plague out of her red puke"
Player: ok that's a really cool counterplay, I just hit her with my fun niche perk, Head On
"ooooooh SORRY that's the Wrong Kind of Stun so it doesn't count"
Player: ??? Why the heck do some stuns work while other stuns don't?
(Since flashlight stuns don't have this effect, there will still be some of that conundrum in the game anyway)
Counterpoint: I'd like a plague to not slug me for 2 minutes incase I have DS so she can use her power instead of losing it, and maybe not incentivize the killer we get debuffed from interacting with stuff to run even more gen regression to help counter blast mine. This just encourages unfun gameplay all around. I'm tired of BHVR doing that.
@@darkodom counter counterpoint: if the killer is gonna slug you in case you have DS, they're gonna slug you either way, so it wouldn't matter. And blast mine shouldn't count as a stun anyway, it's a blind just like a flashlight save and should be treated as such.
To be fair, I don’t think this change matter all that much? The only scenario that could regularly happen is a pallet stun, which is totally avoidable. I almost never kick gens as plague to be honest, I rely on thanatophobia ruin and pain res for the regression and just focus on infecting and making survivors so slow they’re forced to give me power or lose. I can understand being mad about a nerd like this, but honestly plague might have needed some slight counterplay like this.
To be fair, I am not very surprised about DS change, I mean plague can be very strong at camping / tunneling someone out of the game fast since you can keep a whole team injured or double m2 in some scenarios
But I agree with the "why plague and not nurse or blight"
Mistigated about Head on, I find this change kinda incoherent with bhvr explaining that perks interacting with killer powers mostly create impossible to balance scenarios like 2 weeks ago
And I mean, if someone enter into a locker before you can grab them, you're put in a loose loose situation, similar to twins, when you can't grab nor take the stun, this is so weird
And for blast mine, I just don't get it, there's no way to know if you can kick a gen or not so nobody will take the risk, especially with pain res, thanatophobia or any options that alows you to avoid kicking gens
Since Blast Mine makes you loose around 10 seconds with the stun blind and the double kicking animation, I just don't get why this is a thing
Anyways, thx for the video, I had no idea about that, strange that this is not written in the mid chapter patch
When i saw the thumbnail i thought you were excited Plague finally has a really cool skin
I like the change honestly. Plague can be really overwhelming in solo q and this change both nerfs her a little and buffs otherwise relatively bad perks
I wouldn’t say they are relatively bad perks, and this change hardly nerfs her (except for stunning with head on)
Ruin and especially white hooks is not a bad perks, what are you talking about?
At this point i'm not surprised. It's BHVR, Nerfing killers is their daily job.
yeah they're hating on killers so hard that pain res grim embrace is still in the game and they just made twins the best killer in the game, other than that they only nerf killers surely
@@arnaudthouvenot929the twins buff didn't go through
@@arnaudthouvenot929
Oh no, only two of the previous eight good gen regression perks are still viable! 😨That's two too many!
@@sava-sd9eb no but some of the various quality of life changes did, which, although they weren't as OP and were healthy for the killer, were still buffs nonetheless
@@sava-sd9eb if you don't think live release twins are top3 of killers, you need to watch some good players play it
When I enter the "worst decisions in a row" competition and my opponent is bhvr
"Behaviour accidentally miscommunicates". Ah yes, another one of those "isolated incidents"
I hate plague so this is fine
Hopefully less people playing this boring ass killer now.
