I had stubborn Achilles tendonitis that was resistant to treatment for months that made it difficult to walk even a mile. Voltaren gel got it under control and got me back on the trails. It also helps my arthritic knees. I swear by the stuff.

I had that for a while (like over a year) - a real problem. I ended up lifting weights and that really eliminated the pain, swelling, soreness over six months of diligent training. I can't recommend a trainer and a weight lifting routine highly enough. It hasn't returned, I've dropped some weight over the last year, and everything is stronger. I think I'd like to try Voltaren gel for my arthritic knee.

So when I felt no relief after a day, I just thought it was a big waste of money! (She also didn’t mention that it’s just meant to use a week at a time.). Not a doctor, but for inner hip (socket) pain and inflammation, diclofenac isn't Rx'ed. But I believe outer tissue inflammation and pain for things like hip (G-Trochanter) bursitis, I-T band etc does get relief in many, like me.
As you probably know, Bob & Brad have done some great P-T videos on that injury and treatment. Would Chris (or B & B) specifically address the diclofenac topical 1% specifically for outer hip injuries like hip bursitis, I-T band inflammation etc - need to find whether my relief was placebo?

I'm experiencing sciatica or piriformis type pain that sends excruciating pain down my leg. While I feel it in my lower back, the pain seems to originate in the piriformis between the hip and the sacrum. Would Voltaren penetrate to the area of that muscle for possible relief?

@@beerman1957 I purchased a 3.56 oz. tube at my local grocer. It was a store brand (Top Care) that had the same listed contents and strength as the Voltaren on the shelf. Before tax, I paid $18.
My general pain pattern is to struggle with the worst of it for the first 1-2 hours of the morning after getting out of bed. It's a real struggle getting my granddaughter to school. I find that the pain lessens and even completely disappears (except for some lite ache in my lower back) after that, and as long as I stay on my feet doing chores and errands, I avoid most pain. But, if I sit for any length of time or take a nap, when I get up I'm back to fighting the bad leg pain. I find I don't usually get a second recovery like I did mid-morning.
I'm having some afternoon achiness today after sitting for several hours -- not severe, but certainly cramping my style. I rubbed some of the gel onto my left piriformis area and I am experiencing relief. I didn't have the sense the application in this one spot was improving the pain further down the leg -- I had hoped, assuming this is nerve pain, that dulling it at the source would take care of the whole problem -- so I applied a bit to my left calf and also at my hip. I can definitely say I feel relief. Still some stiffness in the hip but not the sharp pain I was getting a few minutes ago. Hoping this lasts a while.
My plan is to apply this tomorrow morning when the alarm goes off and before I get out of bed to see if I can skip some of the 1-2 hours of pain I've been starting my day with. I'll update when I get a chance.
I had an MRI weeks ago and my primary physician sent a referral over to a spinal-treatment group. I finally received an appointment date after making several calls -- not until May 26. I'm hoping this Voltaren clone fills the gap for the next month.
