A wonderful person who takes time to meet and autograph for all her fans after every performance. Ignore the negative comments here posted by delinquents. Go see Hilary yourself and experience the performance of a lifetime.
I had the pleasure, and I mean pleasure, of seeing her play the Beethoven Violin Concerto with the Baltimore Symphony back when she was only seventeen. Yes, she's beautiful, but she also had a great stage presence. While waiting to play and listening to the orchestra, she smiled and rolled her head gently to the music, sometimes looking back to the musicians. It was quite enchanting.
Hilary is simply the most amazing violinist ever. She is seemingly incapable of playing out of tune. Her Tchaikovsky concerto recorded with the Royal Liverpool orchestra, just makes me cry, it's just so beautiful.
She simply surprided her public in Berlin again with a wonderful interpretation of the Beethoven's Violin Concert D-Dur at the Philharmonic Hall, May17th2015. Five long ovations she thanked with 3 minutes Bach's music.
I also play the violin. . Hilary plays with total precision, perfect dynamics, and this precision and perfection gives off a very special rich sound and crisp quality to her playing! You can tell its Hahn without seeing her!
I always see that kind of comment that says that the violinist is kind of a "robot" and showing no emotions and I don't know how to say that it's not true. Now you're here to say it for me, I give you much thanks. Seriously! Thank you for proving that violinists are never robots and never showing no feelings!!!! OMG *bow*
I just saw her in concert at SUNY Purchase in NY. She is that good! Nowadays everyone is a "superstar" this young woman really is as good as people say she is. I found her to be, if you can believe this, even better in person than she is on her CDs and videos. I highly recommend seeing her in person.
I dream about having played the violin just like her. Of course it never happened and it never will. To master the ultimate perfection... my God! , Hilary Hahn was born under a Lucky Star.
What a wonderful video. Thank you. When we went to Hilary's rehearsal here in Salt Lake with the Utah Symphony, it also was a wonderful experience. She is so natural and sweet.
Watch from 3:57 to 4:15 -- you'll never see a more beautiful bow-arm than that in your life. I sat up close in a recital in LA about 6 years ago and couldn't believe the way her left-hand moves... invisible shifts, infinite shades of control in her vibrato. She really is one of the greats, on a par w/ Milstein and Menuhin.
Watch from 3:57 to 4:15 -- you'll never see a more beautiful bow arm in your life. I sat up close at a recital about 7 years ago in LA, and it was unbelievable - her infinite shades & complete control over vibrato, her invisible shifts, gorgeous tone, and "just right" interpretations. She's definitely one of the greats, on a par with Milstein and Menuhin. The fact that she's a hottie is just a bonus.
Bach isn't easy; his music is actually quite difficult, but the difficulty comes in other forms: for his slow music, being able to get across the emotion and character without it dragging or sounding clunky; and the fast music is hard in most of the usual ways, such as phrasing, agility, and cleanliness. I'm quite thrilled that she loves Bach as much as she does! She's a remarkable performer and it's a privilege to hear her playing the master's works.
Frost, the record producer here, errs greatly in saying, at 2:40 "The challenge is that you're going to be compared to the great violinists of this century who have recorded Bach." Surely the "challenge" lies on them. They're surely cheering from above with old JS.
Hilary Hahn presents music in the purest form, without much superfluous "added flavor" . Music is opened to interpretations, and what she offers to the audience is the essence and the distilled form of music. Her playing is not fake and fluff like some violinists... In my opinion, Hahn is very similar to Heifetz. people don't find his music appealing, especially on the slow pieces (saying it's too fast, impersonal, cold, etc.)
Hilary hahn is a great violinist. she is very true herself while playing, no ugly fake face expression, no show off, so we can really appreciate the music in a pure way. I like her very much.
I have seen Hilary is several performances. I have seen them all, from Mutter to Perlman...to Bell. I have subscription to the NY Phil. Anyway, I can attest that in person, there is NO better artist. She is magnificent. She plays clearly, passionately, and is without equal. Her videos don't do her justice. She commands the crowd, and her playing is beyond flawless. She makes most of the notables look incompetent. Her Bach is world class.
I WISH THERE WAS NO SPEACH ON THIS SPOT ! ONLY H: HAHN Playing :) Because that SPEAKS ENOUGH FOR ITSELF ! She Plays EXCELLENT ! Her interpretation is truly musical and "You freeze On Your back " listening to her !!
Yes, her bach is exquisite! It's so clean and clear. But for myself, that's all i hear from her. Hilary Hahn, to me, is a 'safe' violinist. She doesn't take risks (sort of like she's trying to please everyone out there). Take Vengerov or Chang for example: they take risks in their playing and are very passionate...and in reality, people either hate them or love them. For Hilary, it seems as if EVERYONE just likes her (of couse...some people do love her).
Hilary is fantastically talented in my opinion. I'm a relatively new fan, just bought her Mendelssohn/Shostakovich album, and I love it. Also, she's a babe.
@angelishify If you have ever played the violin seriously, you would have to know that it is a very demanding instrument. Only the most disciplined and hardened personality can bring music out this piece of wood and four slender strings. You will see this kind of discipline, what some call "coldness" in many great violinists - Heifetz comes to mind. Just close your eyes and listen to the music - there is no coldness there at all, but that beauty comes only at the price of unflinching dedication.
Answer to FretMunky88: In what we call classical music, there were always composers and interprets. Interprets of the time of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, ... are almost completely forgotten. Today's composers are not widely known yet and you enjoy the interprets of music written more than a century ago. As in many arts, contemporary creators are seldom recognized while alive.
I wonder if Hilary Hahn will try her hand on a baroque violin later on in her career? Now that will test her talent, but she is still one of the best violinists out there! :D
Actually, I think it is a different Hilary. I seem to recall that the Hilary I am thinking of had a last name of "Brewer" or something like that. She was concertmaster the year before I was admitted to that orchestra.
I heard play Paganini violin concerto No. 1... NOW THAT WAS IMPRESSIVE!!! It was perfect... this piece is fantastic but doesn't show everything she can do. See her play Paganini, and she will blow you away with her perfection...
Liking someone for their ability as a violinist isn't the same thing as liking them for their youth and beauty. I enjoy listening to Julia Fischer. It's weird how people blur the lines between admiring a musician and claiming to "like/love" them personally.
wise in selecting the reprotoir? i think she selects and whatever she selects gets dissected and spit out utter perfection of style with grace and humility of soul.
I am desperately looking for this Bach Violin Concerto A minor's completely recording played by Hillary. who have it please upload, thanks in advance. She is so elegant. Beautiful!
for the record, Vanessa-Mae was a child prodigy in the same vein as Hilary-major solo engagements as a child and the whole 9-she just found she had different things to express than what she'd grown up playing and took a different path.
It's clear that she has sure ability & is talented. I think it doesn't make sense to compare her and other aged experienced players. They stand in defferent places. She might be a potential player who can invite more people to Classical music world.
Yes, it is. Have you ever played it? I presume not. Perhaps you should do your research before you challenge the statement of another. She plays a snippet of the third movement in the very beginning of this video, from 0:15 to 0:20. Then the recording of the first movement begins at 0:46.
A wonderful person who takes time to meet and autograph for all her fans after every performance. Ignore the negative comments here posted by delinquents. Go see Hilary yourself and experience the performance of a lifetime.
her intonation is always so perfect. she doesnt over embellish its wonderful

9 years later and she’s one of the best in history

this is a piece that I'm about to learn. I am baffled by how beautiful it is.
So am I, particularly when I thought it merely quite catchy in the first instance. On subsequent listens, I have realised just how stunning it is.
How could anyone not be moved by such heavenly sounds. She is absolutely the greatest. currently performing violinist. Period.
She is absolutey AMAZING!!! She's my violin idol. :)

She’s amazing now
I dream about having played the violin just like her. Of course it never happened and it never will. To master the ultimate perfection... my God! , Hilary Hahn was born under a Lucky Star.
MORE! please.... I absolutely love her
I love it! Hilary Hahn is so wonderful!!
What a wonderful video. Thank you. When we went to Hilary's rehearsal here in Salt Lake with the Utah Symphony, it also was a wonderful experience. She is so natural and sweet.
I gave her the bouquet once after a concert. Fell in love with her right away...what a great woman!

Wow
2018 still outstanding
I just heard her play with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra last night. She really is an amazing talent. I look forward to following her career.
amazing, one of my favorite pieces - love her style, going to buy this DVD...
She plays so insanely beautifully, not just musically, but aesthetically as well.
Miss Hillary kicks ass when it comes to playing Bach !!!!
I love the little dance she does at 2:24!
Superb,a delight to listen to and watch.
The best violinist of the history (I think)

her pictures does not mean anything to me, but when she starts to play with this confidence I feel butterflies in my stomach.
THANKYOU,LOVE BACH.MAN OF MUSIC.
absolutely beautifull

she gets more and more beatufil because she plays as beautifully as she does. I truly love her.

I absolutely love what she did with M. Night Shyamalan in "The Village"! Stunning.
¡¡¡Qué bella interpretación!!!

You can say they were "just too easy" but all of his pieces are brilliant. No doubt about that.
Wonderful sound and expression!perfect!

oh so beautiful!
finalmente un po' di slancio per un bach quasi romantico!
can't wait to play bach,, love violin music

The beauty of her sound can only be surpassed by her beauty as a woman! Great violonist!

Me gusto !! ;gracias ,desde argentina .
L.A. has a great philharmonic. You can follow their concert series.
Beautiful
I cannot comprehend her skill level.
I'm always thinking the same thing every time I hear or see her play.

I have never been a fan of Bach's violin music, this video changed me.
awesome!

Hilary is fantastically talented in my opinion. I'm a relatively new fan, just bought her Mendelssohn/Shostakovich album, and I love it. Also, she's a babe.
@Muggleman12 She plays a 1864 Vuillaume, and it's a copy of the Cannone Guarneri del Gesu.
Uberloinvongenchler,
That's the 3rd movement of this concerto!
Yishu,
Greetings from Taipei
Very moving!!!!!!
what a beautiful talent!!!!!

@willypollas what did you expected? remixed classical songs? violin-rock? lyrics?
Actually, I think it is a different Hilary. I seem to recall that the Hilary I am thinking of had a last name of "Brewer" or something like that. She was concertmaster the year before I was admitted to that orchestra.

If you like Hilary Hahn you will also like Julia Fischer, both young, beauty and outstanding violin players.
But Julia Fischer now is really twisted around both musical career & personal life... while Hilary is soaring up to the limitless level.
Hilary is god, julia is a great violinist there is a difference
Liking someone for their ability as a violinist isn't the same thing as liking them for their youth and beauty. I enjoy listening to Julia Fischer. It's weird how people blur the lines between admiring a musician and claiming to "like/love" them personally.
yes amazing
You're right, I should've added them and Isaac Stern. My bad :)
I guess I was caught up in metioning violints from period ensembles.
wise in selecting the reprotoir? i think she selects and whatever she selects gets dissected and spit out utter perfection of style with grace and humility of soul.

What is that marvelous piece playing during 2:00 ?
@mrsuperasianchild
Yes, I stand corrected, thanks for the effort ;-D
very nice!
She is the best female violinist of the century...I would be shy too! :)
great!The best music!
Words fail me to describe her...brilliant, sensuous, passionate, spirited, verve, ethereal, just to name a few
Yes! indeed!
Wowww!!!
superb
One of my fave musics...Bach as a god, and she as an angel
talent, that's what makes her violin her violin!

it is Akiko, sayaka shoji, and jonathan in masterclass.you should go to violin prodigy in the search and click the 12 year old boy.he was born in 1992.
Superb.............xxx
