After catching a bunch of species with my ultralight setup from my kayak, I took this halibut to my buddy @NickFish007 who dry aged the fish for over two weeks. We then filleted the fish and ate it a couple different ways. The results were super interesting! We documented the whole process and here it is! Thanks for watching!

The first thing I noticed about this reel is its weight ruclips.net/user/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I wouldn't say it was uncomfortable but it was a little heavier than other similarly sized reels. However, that didn't deter my enjoyment of how smooth this reel is. I spooled it with 20lb. Tuf-Line XP and it's perfect for what I use it for. I have it paired with an 8'6" Medium/Fast Okuma SST Salmon/Steelhead rod. The combination is perfect for casting and even drifting. I used the reel all day and didn't experience any arm or hand fatigue except when fighting a few fish! The bail is solid and feels strong when engaging by reeling and manually closing the bail by hand. The large rubber handle grip is very comfortable. It's got a powerful drag, silky smooth reeling, and feels very comfortable in the hands. I recommend it!
"Outdoor Chef Life of Walmart"... hilarious! 😂😂😂
You should look into getting a new rubber fish net. They work great and are very easy on fish you intend to release.
ultralight is unmatched for feeling halibut
That rubbery thing looks like a salp. I have seen lots of twin-sailed salps up here in Humboldt
Great video, Adam and Nick! Interesting process. I like the catch and cook videos from time to time.
It’s so interesting how east coast flounder fishing techniques vary from west coast halibut fishing. Cool video 👍
Glad you're showing the potential of dry aging fish! Usually "dry" aging fish is done at 70% humidity, to prevent the fish to completely dry out. Also sometimes if the air is too dry it will dry the outside of the fish and trap the moisture inside.
Thanks for the info!
Adam aka Taku. Pretty good catch and prep. Rod held up and lost a few but redeemed by landing the two. Thanks for your continued work and sharing your experience. Richard from Menifee,California
Great colab! Taku better be watchin you two!😉
Looks delicious! Hope to see more collabs with you guys? Fun to watch!
Adam, so nice to see you do a catch and prepare. Looks delicious!
East coast calls them fluke or summer flounder. The bigger ones are called doormat.
I love that Walmart joke😂
loved the collab~ more please!!
Greetings from Oregon. What's up buddy. Good to see another fishing video.
Toku would be proud with those cutting skills!!!
Good episode with one of the boys. Keep it up.
Another great video Adam! See if you can get Kastking to sponsor you. They have a new model of saltwater spinning reel out.
Hey, Adam, I'm gonna pick up one of those reels for my bass fishing but I have another question.
I just picked up a hobby to do some ocean fishing. But all the apps that I used to use to see. The water conditions are no longer. Can you recommend an easy app to read the water condithanks? To go out of Half Moon Bay Harbor. Thanks cheers
1 suggestion-> how about a sashimi taste/tenderness comparison test with ikejime/shinkeijime harvest method vs conventional harvest method?
Great idea!
very interesting - great video!
💛...love the ocl-wally edition...
Love your videos Adam! Greetings from San Diego :)
Thanks! I enjoyed my last trip in your neck of the woods!
The jelly fish looking animal is a salp
luv you guys^^
Cool Capitola Wharf in California! I remember renting the red dingy boats and going out fishing with friends and family.
Good times 👍🏽🤙🏽
🤫
Hell yeah! Catch and cook!
DH- great video
You gotta do a Walmart set up now
Well now, I have certainly never seen anything like that!
YAMMY, VERY NICE GUYS !!!!!!!!! YOU SHOULD TRY KOREAN FERMENTED/AMMONIA HALIBUT ???????
Looks delicious to me. Thanks man.
Should do more catch and cooks!
You actually trust that guy with your fish? Just kidding, Nick is a homie. Get a tether for your phone, I get nervous when youre putting it away.
That there looks to be a dueche bag. A used one at that.
Awesome video.
Cool Video. Would have loved it even more if Taku showed up at the end to critique the dish/presentation etc. "What no "Kelp Chili Crisp" send it back."
😂😂😂
Dry aged fish, interesting. it looked good.
I’ve been meaning to try this I know a very good hali spot in socal but I’m afraid to break my ultralight lol might try after this video
Good luck!
Taku needs to sharpen that knife. Cool video
You are the king of halibut
When most catch and cooks Taco not included. Are deep fried in corn meal batter you guy's kill it beyond delicious looking. Wish you guys were my neighbors.
Yumm! Maybe some cilantro?
Your idea of ultra lite is way different than mine, for trout fishing I consider that rig medium to heavy.
It's not ultralight at all unless you're tuna fishing. Saltwater fisherman seem to use much heavier setups than needed most of the time.
@@dohpe- Wishing//be prepared!
Not sure where you're from, but out west here we catch 8 to 12 lbs trout.
Adam, can I ask what Kayak and motor you use?
Hey, I’m going to San Francisco for the weekend. What beaches would you recommend I fish?
Ocean beach is a popular beach to fish from in San Francisco. Good luck!
Yea Boy
Do you ever see 'in transit Halibut' on your fish finder? They gotta come and go sometime, somewhere! Right?
Yes! I’m
the clear thing is a salp
That was my sac of weed you just found
Missed the first rod eye guide 😂
My bad! Haha
What happened to the other fish?
"The Outdoor Chef Life of Walmart" 😂
.....WHAT??? king fish is a trash fish there...... damn whiting are prized here. Some of the best cold weather fish you can get in the panhandle.
I would salt brine it over night and dry it in the sun for a day and eat it half dried. Full dry would be two days.......
i sell wine and beverage coolers, the units are designed to cycle frequently in order to keep temps +- 3 degrees. any questions on them, let me know.
Sharppen those hooks!
That’s a really nice 280Zx
nice!!
What pier was that in the beginning?
Alviso Pier
Thanks, too , guys!
Sesame chili oil 💣💨💯
wow very nice video💝💖💗
ive actually bought 5 piscifun reels over the last 4 years
cant deny the value
Excellent collab with Nick Fish! Make sure Taku pays you royalties after he steals your recipe for his Outdoor Chef Life cookbook.
Good point!!!! Haha
What are good colors for halibut?
In the SF Bay Area most anglers use white. I try other colors but get way more bites off white than any other color. I can't talk for other areas
I like white and chartreuse
Adam I love your videos been watching for over a year, but I feel you would get many more views and subscribers if you did catch, clean and cooks.😊
I’m no outdoor chef life but I’ll do more here and there!
What was crawling all over that blue ling you caught??
I’m not sure what they are called but I’ll do some research and report back!
Why are you setting hook on halibut? They have soft mouth and set hook themselves that’s why you are losing fish
Since you're able to land halibut on what you consider to be ultralight gear, maybe your usual setup may be overkill. Thoughts? I have caught a few on muni pier in the 60's on six pound test mono.
Ultralight is doable but the catch rate is much higher with the conventional gear I typically use
@johnharris8021, you should qualify your comment, 60 what? lbs? inches? cm? you're 60?, no one is using cms in the states, and you're not catching 60lb halis on six pound mono, so.........wtf?
@@mikeboston421 1960's
Its a salp
Why is your drag so loose ?
I was using very light line
What happened to the other fish? There was two.
Outdoor chef life stole it
Dude has James Franco vibes lol
Thanks, but no thanks!
Adam, the stuff you found floating is whale sperm dude. Lol
The reason you keep losing fish is to loose of drag with that action rod. So your basically getting a slack line hook set
How are we going to find out if you guys got sick off that raw fish!😂
It’s been over a week now and I can confirm no sickness on my end
@@DieHardFishing Right on! Thanks for all the videos, enjoy watching them!
We need new videos sir
Got to work on those titles. Dry aged...yep. I thought somehow you had a"19 day old Fish" you were going to eat raw. That would fit on a toothpick.
That’s the point friend, gotta have a stunning title to get the clicks:)
@@mikaylai4535 Didn't come across as stunning. Just poorly worded.
I recommend you use a leash for your phone. Hate to see you rush to put your phone away and inadvertently bump something and drop your phone in the ocean.
Not a bad idea!
Who is gonna to clean that reel after it's day in salt water?
Me
If you think gear is inferior for the challenge,,, why demo it? Or are you teaching fishers to try ultra light gear for more sport/fun? Is it sport for the fish?
Not an ultralight. Not even close.
Waste of time and good fish.
I was hungry before I watched this video. Now I'm about to pass out!!! lol. Thanks.
(You really know how to hurt a guy).
Sorry! 😬
Where's the other fish m
Taku stole it
