      @@FrugalRepair Thank you very much for this great video. I have the same Duo 60 V3 instant pot. I got it in US and took it to India where the normal voltage is 240v. I got a step down transformer but my Instant pot didnt like it. It blew off. One of my friend checked it and told that fuse and varistor has to be replaced. In the circuit board, we have a specification for fuse 250vAC and 3.15 amps. But, I do not see a specification for varistor. I contacted Instant Pot customer service. Even they do not have the details of varistor. If you know the specification, can you please reply to me. Also, I am not sure whether the thermal cut off fuse is also gone. If you have the specification of the thermal cut off fuse, can you please provide me.

    Thanks you very much! I bought this pot today at the Thrift store for $8, tested there and no heating. I was thinking a blow fuse but after I opened all the fuses and wiring was fine. My tester show continuity except after the Relay. I checked the other side of the board and was fine to me.... with the wrong glasses. So I ordered a new relay at Aliexpress for $0.80. The Relay for this unit is MPA-S-112-A and thinking to wait a month for it. And after I saw your video made me to open the pot again and remove the board ... with the right glasses. Bingo!! Bad connection (no as bad as yours and very clean around). Five minutes repair! It is working and cooking now with it. Thanks you again!

But days went by before I got back to putting it back together, and forgot how to rewire it (mostly the two blue wires). My 4-year old Duo60 Instant Pot stopped heating and I found this video. I removed the control board and inspected it, looking for the degraded solder joint as described in the video. Initially, I thought that the solder joint looked OK. So I replaced the board and started looking around for some other failed component. I was just about to give up when I decided to have a second look at the control board. Using a magnifier, I could see the solder joint was in fact degraded. I re-soldered that joint per the video, then re-assembled, and my Instant Pot is back to working. Thanks!

    We have an electric Fagor Multicooker that shut down completely in the middle of browning veggies for soup. This is our third unit from them. They’re very good at replacing under warranty but our current warranty expired 3 months ago.
    We attempted to remove the in-line fuse but the end clamped to the board was so tight we craved the solder before it slipped off.
    Grateful for your tutorial as we were about to simply install the new fuse without repairing the cracked solder!

Those following his other and circuit board fix might want to take a picture of the wiring before they remove the board, particularly since their board may differ from his in some ways. My V2 models does. The parts seem much the same. Their connections are just arranged a bit differently.

    However, I noticed on the plastic below the board (pot upside down), the exact position beneath the problematic connector, there is sign of heating. Given so many folks are sharing the same issue, it could be a product flaw, and might re-occur after you fix the connector. Be wary of that everyone!

    Thanks for the vid. I was too lazy to open it up to figure it out and 9 out of 10 times I can find the video on youtube. Just 1 thing I noticed, you should have cleaned the burned solder area a little before you applied more solder. The new solder will adhere to the relay pin but it will be a problem again quicker than it happened the 1st time. I like to use either a wire toothbrush or even an exacto blade to scrape away the black stuff. After it's cleaned, more surface area can be soldered providing the best solder connection. Just trying to help! :)

I've discussed this with IP, and been told that they simply don't repair anything, and really wish none of us did either. Duh..... anyway, several chinese importers keep this relay in stock and they are cheap, but you may end up buying a string of them.

    If we assume that the solder joint was fine when the item left the factory, I would be concerned about WHY the joint cracked over time. There appeared to be some scorching around the failed solder joint, indicating exposure to very high heat. I'd be concerned about that. Is something happening with the item that caused it to fail over time? After fixing the broken solder joint, I would wonder if I've moved the failure point for the problem somewhere else on the board. The next time it fails, will another solder joint fail, will a fuse blow, or will the item set my house on fire?
    I guess my point is: without understanding exactly why the solder joint failed, it is potentially dangerous to just "fix" it with a solder blob without understanding why it failed.

    I purchased a non working Ninja Air Max and as rain was forecast for the week I thought I might have a go at fixing it and I honestly had no idea what I was doing. Strangely I took it all apart discovered the problem ( thermal fuse) and fixed it. However as I was in the zone taking it apart I didn’t record anything and consequently was a bit stumped how it went back together. So I joined a Facebook group dedicated to these Air Fryers and posted some pics of a big heap of bits and wondered if anybody knew how to correctly assemble. I was quite amazed at the response I was called mad an idiot a troll and very dangerous! So I assured them I would be putting it back together with or without their help and did! I also recorded the first time of switching on and everything worked perfectly. Nothing was said but a couple of weeks later I was implored by a few people to make a video of the repair, but alas would not be taking it apart again and I felt rather smug I must admit.

    Help! I really appreciate your video but I am still not sure what to do. My pot is called a " Bella" pot, but the bottom looks very similar to the Insta pot. It has power but no heat. I use this thing all the time and really don't want to have to buy a new one since this is not very old. I pulled out the circuitboard and it looks fine but underneath where the wires connect to the bottom of this thing, there is some rust and looks like ashy stuff. Not sure if that is the problem.

    • @FrugalRepair
      @FrugalRepair  4 года назад

      Sorry, I’m not familiar with yours. You’ll need to track down if there is power going to the heating element and where the component(s) are that are preventing the power going to the element. Maybe it’s the relay itself but not a solder joint.

    Another idea is to get 12 gauge solid copper wire and wrap the wire ends tightly around the leads at each end of that circuit so that the wire supplements the circuit trace. Solder the wire directly to the pins coming out of the circuit board for that circuit trace. This is a repair solution when the circuit board is burnt and missing some of the circuit trace around where you need to solder.
    A source for the 12 gauge wire is Home Depot. You can use the same solid copper insulated wire that is used for home electrical wiring. Leave the insulation on the wire except at the ends where you solder, and make sure the wire lays flat on the circuit board, and lays only on the repaired trace. Bend/shape the wire to make sure that wire does not touch any other part or any other circuit in the circuit board when the circuit board is reinstalled. Don’t try this if you don’t know how to solder.

    Conformal coatings MUST be removed before soldering. You can use ammonia to break it down and clean it away from your soldering spot.

When switched it on , I heard a burst sound from underneath the pot ,when asked the customer care they are saying that there must be something wrong with the convertor I used and they are suggesting me to use a stepdown convertor. When opened the pot just as you did ,I found a burnt part in the motherboard and i have no idea about it. Pls help me out !!!

    I received a new Instapot duo from my sister as a gift. Brand new. I have tried the test process with 3 cups water. As I set the time, which blinks; does not stay fixed. As a result, the pot does not start. I also tried the saute process; same results. Request your thoughts on this issue? It does have power, when plugged in it shows OFF on the screen, so I believe power is getting to it. The issue is one: Timer blinks steady, and two: no start hence no heat. Thanks very much:)

But I check the pressure sensor, no unusual things found , and push it on/off, nothing happened, its display does not change. Could you please give me a hand?

    • @FrugalRepair
      @FrugalRepair  5 лет назад

      Thanks! I don't know why your beans are not cooking. I would measure the resistance of the heating element to make sure it hasn't gone bad. Maybe it only partially works. Another possibility is that there isn't enough electrical current going to the heating element therefore producing less heat. Or maybe it is the control board (ie the brains) that is directing it not to heat up all the way.

      My 17 year old microwave started beeping in intervalls last year. I opened it up and with all my youtube electronic knowledge I started to see if I culd find the problem. It took me days to figure out the little flatcable that connected to the clock part was cracked due to the curl position it had been positined in for all those years. I fiixed it with a piece of duct tape. It is still in daily use.
