Thought you had to flip the diode on the tester to change direction of voltage flow??

I am extremely concerned about your method of discharging the capacitor. It would be best if you shorted out the LEFT (set of two connectors) to the RIGHT (set of two connectors). Shorting out one connector (inside the black circular collar) to the one next to it inside the SAME black circular collar is useless. There are a total of four connectors to that capacitor, two inside one black circular collar and two DIFFERENT connectors inside the OTHER black circular collar. But, you are right: it's very dangerous. If there is any voltage remaining in that capacitor and you make a connection to it directly or indirectly through you, you could end up getting killed.

No need for batteries to check a diode, with digital meter anode and cathode measurement or flipping positive and negative leads can tell you an open or shorted diode.

    • @WorldRandomVideos

Microwave ovens contain high voltage circuits and components operating at 4,000-5,000 volts (depending on the model). The risk associated with high voltages is exponentially greater than household voltages; electrocution by high voltage will almost certainly lead to death or permanent injury.

Umm usually if the microwave doesn't heat it's the magnetron. You should have pulled it out and checked the coloration of the stem, it should be mostly silver not completely brown. Magnetrons go out all the time especially under high use.

    • @rickynaidoo2921

Most important firstly firstly you must check if the voltage is present to the transformer, some countries got 220 volts ac , some countries maybe 110 volts ac. Sometimes can be the high voltage diode, sometimes can be the magnetron.

First you're not releasing voltage. You are releasing charge of a HV calacitor. And you were wrong in its way. You needed to contact the two pins of the capacitor with the plyer at the same time so it could make a closed loop.
