When seeing a lot of people talk about Manacled, all of the triggers seem to be about the SA, the descriptions of trauma, and those are all really real, but its a lot rarer to see people provide trigger warnings about war or long term solitary confinement. I'm Salvadorian and my mother lived through the Civil War in the 80s and i saw what it did to her and my mother's family. I have also lost long distance friends in this last aggression in Gaza and I dont know what could have happened to some of the men that have been captured in Northern Gaza now, especially knowing that if my friends arent dead they could be among those men right now being rounded up and s3xu4lly humiliated by the IOF. The uncertainty of not knowing what could be happening to people I care about and could have potentially lived a life with has just been something I lived with while going to work everyday. I won't lie, Ive read a lot of fiction with references to SA and I have been able to detach. Something about reading Manacled made me come to terms with the idea that im a first and second generation product of war and I wasnt prepared for it.
I appreciated this fanfic and I think it had valuable things to say. Unfortunately i do think that the retrospective glimpse and analysis of war suffers from a tendency to view war as a thing of the past. Its not entirely Senlinyu's fault since JKR set up the death eaters to parallel ww2, but it also means that we are easily able to detach ourselves from the reality of the stakes of war and its causalties (both living and dead). I wish more people would think of war and incarceration as traumas that readers may have more personal experiences with instead of assuming that the only readers you have are people who will only ever read about war in headlines or history books as an abstract thought and adjust their trigger warnings accordingly.
This comment started as a way of saying thank you for using your platform to talk about Palestine but I guess it just turned into a space to talk about something I didnt even know I felt after finishing this fanfic

Reading the flashbacks first is understanding Draco. Reading it as the natural book order is understanding Hermione. Endlessly heartbreaking either way ❤️🩹
I have to say thank you for summarizing this, cause I don’t really plan on reading this (I don’t like dead dove fics) but everyone is talking about this fic and I wanted to know what was happening
I am not an overly emotional person so the deaths and gore didn't bother me a lot....as a harry potter fan I was always kinda liking Slytherins the most and always thought that JKR did them dirty. This book fed my hunger for a redemption of the members of this particular house...such amazing complex characters...Draco and Snape, even Lucius.....JKR could have done so much better, instead she painted them all as evil. Black and white. I am happy I read this book, it's a masterpiece.

@@DiemmiLeHAHHAHAA i was just stating facts🙏🏻 and yes what is happening is just absolutely devastating. i'm from malaysia and here we are still active on spreading awareness. some of our efforts are boycotting brands associated with israel including mcd, coca cola, pepsi, starbucks, and so much more. i believe that the best thing to do as humans right now is spread awareness of this situation and keep ourself updated with informations of the current news. al jazeera is a good source. being educated of this whole conflict instead of just listening to what the biased western media says is so important. israel bombing hospitals and taking the lives of innocent people, INNOCENT CHILDREN is just insane. despite enjoying the dystopian, young adult genre in books like the hunger games that discuss about war and similar topics, it is horrible to read, talk about the events that happen in the fictional story, then proceed to turn a blind eye on actual real life events. so thank you again for speaking out!!

Manacled was bad. I want back the time i spent reading it. I got up to part 43/77 before i decided i couldn’t read anymore.
Finally someone did say that 🤣 You have lasted so long... i dropped that after those pulpy conclusion that malfoy looks like a dark angel, the angel of death

Watching these reviews is really therapeutic...
I actually got some spoilers from part 2 when I was still half through part 1 and it was pretty helpful for me to keep reading and finishing part 1 coz it was hard to get through it ..... and by the end of part 2 and I know it's crazy but I felt bad for draco even more then I did for Hermione !! And I kinda blame her for the whole f*ck up situation she got both of them into , she broke her promise and went and acted alone... when she could worked a solution with him or ask him to go with her to sussex and have her back or something...arghhhh I hate these type of if only storylines...
And also reading all the aspects of the war and the mental and physical suffering of it in parallel of what is happening in Gaza made this more impactful and sad to read really...especially the part where voldomort blowing up a hospital and accusing the resistance of doing it ...like it exactly happened in Gaza , i was like wow !!
NO FR. Hermione is SO STUBBORN & caused so many problems, like I know she wants to save everybody, but by doing so, you're putting your other loved ones at risk.😭 You make such a good point. The parallels are insane. Art imitates life & people still fail to see what's going on in the real world.
